Download altered, Lion could not be verified.
I just paid for Lion and started the download. When the installation started, it got halted with message saying :
The software could not be verified. It may have been damaged or altered during itsdownload.
Went back to App Store to re-download but could not, as Lion is showing "installed" in my account. Please help.

Power down. Then press power button and hold 'shift' key until grey screen with progress bar appears... Once booted and logged in just open safari and browse to applestore.
No trouble at all once I did this.
Reminder: create full backup before you upgrade OS

If you have Intego VirusBarrier X6 installed
1. Open /Applications/VirusBarrier X6.
2. Click on the "Surf" button.
3. Click on the "Ad Banner Filter" tab.
4. Click "OFF" next to "Banner advertisement filter".
5. Start the computer in Safe Boot, then restart the computer into normal mode.
If don't not have Intego Virus Barrier installed
1. Verify that the date and time is correct on the computer.
2. Safe Boot once, then restart normally, then try downloading again.
3. Try with a different user account if the issue persists
If the issue persists
Install Lion onto an empty partition (internal or external).
Note: You can Use Disk Utility to live partition the internal drive and create a second partition large enough to install Lion.
Start from the clean installation of Lion.
Download Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store. Note that the original startup disk can be set as the destination for Mountain Lion during the installation process. -

On your profile, you say that you are using Mountain Lion. Is that correct? If you are using Mountain Lion, you don't have to download the Mountain Lion installer again.
Also, that error is usually caused by problems with your Internet connection or your hard disk, so first, open Disk Utility, select Macintosh HD in the sidebar and verify the disk. If it's OK, you have problems with your Internet connection, so contact with your ISP -

I have this problem also. I was able to download Mountain Lion to my daughter's Mac Mini without any trouble. However, I can't download this to my MacBook Pro. I have read other sites that suggest VirusBarrier is the problem and recommend turning it off in VirusBarrier>Preferences>Advanced. I have tried this and it still doesn't work, although some report that it has worked for them.

If you are trying to reinstall Lion, you need to use Lion Recovery

For that issue, quit the App Store if it's open.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar top of your screen click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Click Go
Move the NetworkInterfaces.plist file from the SystemConfiguration folder to the Trash.
Relaunch the App Store and try downloading MLion.

I paid for the Mountain Lion, was downloading perfect. When almost 1 gb of downloading was left then this error occured "The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed." and stopped downloading and now every time i try to download it this error occurs
What should i do now, i paid for it and couldn't even download it now.You'll need to re-try the download.
If you have a flaky network connection, or if you're behind a proxy server, there can be issues.
The App Store knows you paid so you won't have a problem trying to re-download, but you will have to re-download. -

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.

I have not been able to install Max OS X Lion because in the process the following message was displayed:

Note: I trashed the download and tried re-downloading but this effort was unsuccessful.Since writing my original post I decided to send the following message to Mac App Store Customer Support:
"I have had to download this file from the app store at least ten (10) times. I try to install the file but I keep getting the message "The software could not be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading."
I then delete the same file and try another attempt at a different time of day. Most recently following Apple Support's advice I contacted my ISP to clear the file cache but they could only clear my browser cache. I have deleted my com.apple.appstore. folder which contains app store cache, also com.apple.appstore.plist and tried again to no avail. I have wasted hours doing all this and I now want my money back please. You can keep this software update until you release it on disk like Snow Leopard which installed like a dream. I'm very disappointed with Apple that they expect the purchaser to do all the work trying to diagnose their software installation issue. Nice idea but poorly executed has been my experience."
