When downloading iOS5 and updating my phone, the error message says the software for my iPhone is corrupted. What can be done?

do a complete restore on your phone. this can be done by restoring all factory settings and reinstalling the OS from the phone summery page when connected to itunes. if this does not wor you will want to put you iphone in DFU mode and redownload a clean copy of ios 5. to do this connect your phone to your computer and open itunes. then hold down the sleep/wake/power button along with the home button for exactly ten seconds. after the ten seconds let go of the sleep wakle power button but continue holding the home button until a popup in itues tells you it has detected an iphone in recovery mode.(about 5 more seconds) then click to restore the softwere. note, when you iphone is in DFU mode the screen may be dark, this is normal.

(once you have reinstalled softwear you can restore from a previous iphone backup which is something that happens every time you connect your phone to you computer)

Yes, and, I try to restore. I have the T-Mobile sim card in it just to clarify. It will not let me get passed that, it does not accept the t-mobile sim card. i tried restoring it using wifi, cellular, and i cant get i tunes. I am scared that if i take the tmobile sim card out and put the at&t one in just to complete the restoration process that the iphone will lock again and not read the tmobile sim card, then all my hard work has gone for nothing. I have done several "attempted downloads, and see the full file download, typically taking 30 minutes to complete, and then something goes wrong.
I am happy to suspend AV and FW software, but would like to know if it is a good fix or not first?

I'm not sure what "Mail Update for Mac OS X 10.5.6" is. Mac OS X 10.5.6 is Leopard, a system that is quite old at this point. There have not been any Mail updates for Leopard in quite some time. If you are trying to install some old Mail update for Mac OS X 10.5.6 in Mavericks, that won't work.
If you are trying to install the Mavericks Mail update manually, that's not necessary if you have updated through the App Store. If the App Store shows no updates, you don't need this. (The error message doesn't make sense, and may indicate some other problem with your system, assuming that you were downloading this update from Apple's site.)
I'd advise you to start a new topic in the Mavericks forum and describe the problems you are having with Mail. Be sure to include specifics, but try to avoid speculating on causes, as responses that may be related to an inaccurate assumption on your part can cloud the issue.

My current version when I open it, it says there is an error and I will not be able to download a CD into itunes, although I have completed several CD downloads.

Go to http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ and download the full installer. Run the installer and you will be up-to-date. Sometimes the updater just gets in a weird state...

The obvious way to resolve this on a computer would be to uninstall the app, then reinstall it, however on an iOS device that would cause all the data assoicated with the app to be thrown away.
Make sure your iTunes library has the latest updates for all your apps, then backup and restore the device. This should pull back a fresh copy of the app from your iTunes library and then give it the data from your device backup.

All content from iTunes is tied to the account that downloaded it, so the id that shows when trying to download updates should be the account that 'owns' that app. Do you recognise the id that is showing e.g. has anybody else downloaded or synced content to your iPad ?

This can occur if you bought the machine used and iLife was reinstalled with another AppleID.
This also can occur if the "free apps" you downloaded have paid upgraded versions and/or are now payware and you can't get updates.
All software from MAS is copy protected, it might be free as in "no charge" but it's not free in the sense you can share it with others.

Are you trying to RUN or SAVE the download?
Make sure to choose SAVE.
Also, are you current on all your windows update packages?
And what is your internet connection - is it wireless, or wired?

No promises but a System Reset is worth trying:
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.
A System Reset does not remove any apps, music, movies, etc. nor does it cause any settings to revert back to default.
Also, you might wish to download the iPad-2 User Guide. Pay special attention to page 162. Note that this Guide also applies to the iPad-1 with IOS 4.3 except for those functions that are not supported by the hardware.

I supsect you did the update on other than your syncing computer. If yu did the app, music and synced photo will not be on the iPod after the update since those items are not in the backup that iTunes makes. See:

The above applies to all updates performedvia USB on a computer. To get stuff back, restore from backup on the syncing computer.
The above in my educated guess since you provided litle information about how you did the update.

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 running on? I suspect Mac because of the name your error.
