Download/application folders opening in terminal mode or acting as applications

I am new to macbooks. I have read some articles but being that i'm new to macs i'm not 100% sure what it all means.
here's my issues. i somehow accidently moved my iphoto and library and could not get it moved back. i had to uninstall and reload because i had conflicts and problems opening the application. now everytime i open my downloads folder and it opens iphoto. i managed to move iphoto out of there but the applications folder now open in terminal "bash" and i can only open it using the alt menu and choosing "show package contents" but if i click on it directly it opens the terminal window. i had to create a new downloads folder on my desk top just to be able to use it like i was able to before the iphoto issues.
this is what shows in the terminal when the folders "open"

Back up all data.
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
sudo xattr -c /A* | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. Confirm. You don't need to post the warning.
If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator. Log in as one and start over.
A new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) should appear. You can then quit Terminal and test.

Running XP IT PRO. SP3 downloade and installed automatically. Now all folders open in search mode and I can't change them. I can right click on folders and scroll down to open and they open fine. Help with this..... needs to be changed asap.

Cannot create new folders on desktop. Cannot drag new items onto desktop. Desktop in Finder opens with Terminal. Not sure if this has anything to do with upgrading to Mavericks but I need help if anyone has ideas. Thank you.

I can no longer create new folders on my desktop. The option to do that is now light gray on the drop down menu and can't be selected.

Take these steps if the cursor changes from an arrow to a white "prohibited" symbol when you try to move an icon on the Desktop.
Sometimes the problem may be solved just by logging out or rebooting. Try that first, if you haven't already done it. Otherwise, continue.
Select the icon of your home folder (a house) in the sidebar of a Finder window and open it. The Desktop folder is one of the subfolders. Select it and open the Info window. In the General section of the window, the Kind will be either Folder or something else, such as Anything.
If the Kind is Folder, uncheck the box marked Locked. Close the Info window and test.
If the Kind is not Folder, make sure the Locked box is not checked and that you have Read & Write privileges in the Sharing & Permissions section. Then close the Info window and do as follows.
Back up all data.

I am trying to download Silverlight to use Netflix, however I just get a silverlight_developer.pkg that opens in Terminal and nothing happens.

I have Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 and I'm having trouble downloading Silverlight to watch Netflix. I've tried several different ways from researching online. It just downloads a silverlight_developer.pkg and when I open it it opens in Terminal and says Silverlight_Developer.pkg-bash-80x24. I'm not a computer genius so I don't knwo what any of this means, but I knwo its not right. Please help!!

What application are you choosing to open the files with?
Because of how integrated it is with windows IE should work. If it's not working, something more widespread could be wrong with your computer that would also prevent other browsers from working properly. Of course we'd love you to stick with Firefox, but you should get help with IE, too.

It sounds like perhaps the file doesn't have an extension that the system recognizes. Is this all files, or just one specific one, and if so, which? What is the name (and extension, if it has one) of the downloaded file? What kind of file do you *expect* it to be? (PDF, or whatever). Renaming a file with the appropriate extension can often fix that kind of problem.

If you are completely confident that you didn't hide it, then you purchased those with different apple id. If you completely confident that you purchases with same apple id then you have hidden it. One of the other or you are speaking about a miracle. While miracles are possible they are not very likely. Remember

If that is not the case, you have to take the computer to the nearest
Apple store to have it checked out.

Downloaded applications do not open

Now twice, after downloading the latest versions of both Firefox and Google Earth, I'll have installed the applications only to find them not opening. The icon will bounce once or twice on the dock and then disappear. Really have no idea what the problem could be. Any help is much appreciated.

Reread my above post if you missed my edit to it.
I always thought that if the OS couldn't support a particular application it wouldn't even attempt to download and/or open.
As far as I know, most applications will download but will not launch if they are not the correct versions. The bounce you see in the dock is the application trying to launch but it does not have the correct software to do so with your system configuration/OS.

I have an application on 4 computers. On 3, PDF files open as they should, withing the application. On the fourth the file is placed in "downloads" and then opens in a separate tab on the desktop(not inside the application).

It happens whether the application starts in IE11, Google Chrome or Firefox.
This happens whether the "client" signs in over the internet or directly to the local host server.
