Download boot disk of Solaris 2.5.1

Hi, all.
Where can I download a boot disk of Solaris 2.5.1?
Thanks

What do you mean? An ISO image of the boot CDROM? Or
do you want to copy a boot disk from one system to
another? I don't know about the former, my guess is
that unless you are booting from already existing
media from a CDROM on a system in your LAN, which is
doable, the answer is "no".
The latter idea, using dd to copy one disk to another
is doable with cavaets. The disks must be of the
same type and the system hardware configs must be
the same. There are help documents on SunSolve about
the details. There are many risks and even though
you get a copy, it might fail to boot.

I configured mirror boot disk using Solaris Volume Manager...

  • Mirror boot disk with soft partitions

We've been investigating Solaris Volume Manager with Solaris 9 and have some questions. We currently use DiskSuite 4.2.1 to mirror our boot disks on Solaris 8. The fact that SVM is integrated into the kernel on Solaris 9 got us thinking. Here are some questions I would greatly appreciate answers to:
    1. Is it possible to have your boot disk partitions (/root, /var, swap) be soft partitions and then mirror the soft partitions (so disk 1 you'd have 3 soft p's and on disk 2 you'd have 3 soft p's and create the mirror from them)?
    2. What would the problems be with this? The major one we could foresee is not being able to see your /root, /var and swap partitions in the case of having to boot from the CD, but if SVM is in the Solaris 9 kernel, wouldn't that solve that issue. Is this a problem? Are there other issues/problems we're not thinking of?
    3. Finally, is having your boot partitions be mirrored soft partitons a supported configuration from Sun?
    Thanks,

The reason the HDD is split into two partitions is so if there is an error with the OS, they can reinstall it without affecting the user files.
Makes sense in a way. But does this 'they can reinstall...' imply that you don't have the OSX Install DVD for your Mac ?
Cause you need that DVD for installing the BootCamp Drivers of it !
I do have admin, and I can re-partition my HDD, but I cannot touch the OS partition.
If I set it up like this: http://micmac95.fileave.com/HDD%20setup.png , by shrinking the USER partition, will I be able to install windows on the BOOTCAMP partition?
Personally I never tried this 'Shrinking one partition to make another partition' approach with BootCamp.
But, if you don't have one now is the time to make a complete backup of all the things on your Mac !
Before 'fumbling' with partitions I always make sure to have a backup.

  • Macintosh Plus Boot Disk - Which One?

I have just recovered my old Macintosh Plus (circa 1986) from my parents basement which is where I left it in 1988/89. I am trying to get it working again. The only information I have about this Mac is from the back panel where I find its full name "Macintosh Plus 1Mb" and "Model Number: M0001A." When I try to start it, I get a blinking question mark. I looked through other posts and found a reference to a great site, "Gamba's Home Page" in which I found access to a number of different versions of downloadable boot disk software. My only question is...how do I know which version to use?
Macintosh Plus 1Mb M1000A   Mac OS 8.6 or Earlier

You should use one of the disks prior to 7.0; if you don't have a hard drive connected to that computer, you probably won't be able to use the full functionality of System 6 or newer.

  • Solaris 8 boot disk...

I have been having problems trying to install Solaris 8 to a PC. I keep getting the error "can't open - no VTOC" when booting with the CD and people have been suggesting I need to use the Solaris fdisk and format tools but I cant find a boot disk anywhere on the CD or the web site. Can anyone tell me where to download one or maybe email me one???
    Getting frustrated in Ohio,
    Thanks a million

    Hi,
You can download the DCA diskette from the web site:
    http://soldc.sun.com/support/drivers/dca_diskettes/#s8
You would find all the releases of Solaris. You can check the integriry of the CD which you have burnt by mounting it on another Solaris machine(if you have any). You can try booting from the cd 1 of 2 after you have created a small dos partition and made it active.
    Hope that helps.

  • Solaris Basic Boot DIsk?

I've been tasked with "sterilizing" of a bunch of Sun workstations and servers. I need a boot disk or boot cd which will allow me to boot the machines and run dmesg so I can record the system specs of each one and then run BCWipe or similar to wipe the hard drives. Some systems have cd drives some only have floppys.
I don't have the passwords for any of them so I can't just boot normally.
There is a program called Tufftest which will do this for PCs but I basically need the Sun equivalent.
I'm very new to Sun systems, any suggestions appreciated.

  • I've downloaded Lion. I have a boot disk. Can I use it to install on another machine?

I downloaded Lion from the Mac App store and it's working 100%. Love it.
After downloading and before installing, I copied the installESD.dmg (I think that's the correct filename) to a DVD (as per all the instructions out there to create a boot disc). I did NOT copy the entire "Install Lion App" to the DVD.
My question is: if a friend buys lion from the app and then cancels the download, can he use my boot disk to install lion as an upgrade? The reason I'm asking is that his Internet connection is rubbish and he can't download it. Presumably if I copy the dmg file to his hard disk I can run it that way?

Actually, you can burn a DVD or USB (8GB) thumb drive and let him boot and install from it. Or, you can actually run the InstallESD.dmg file from his machine. I've done both and Lion installs.
Personally, I would burn a DVD or thumb drive so you always have it.
Burn the InstallESD.dmg to a bootable DVD.
Launch Disk Utility and click the Burn button
Select the InstallESD.dmg file from your desktop as the image to burn. Insert a blank DVD and wait for the the image to be burned.
Burn the InstallESD.dmg to a bootable USB thumb drive.
Open Disk Utility and drag the InstallESD.dmg file to the left side pane. Go to the Partition tab ad select 1 Partition from the drop down menu. Choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) on the left. Click the Options button under the partition table and choose GUID Partition Table. You will need this to make the drive bootable on a Mac. Hit the Apply button when ready to format the drive (it will erase everything on the drive).
Click on the Restore tab and drag the InstallESD.dmg file to the Source. Drag the USB partition to the Destination. Hit the Restore button and it will create the bootable USB drive with the OS X Lion installer

  • Where can I get the Boot Disk for my macbook pro? Downloading OSX Lion is taking too long

I got a macbook pro that was owned by someone for a few days before. I tried to restore to factory setting but now downloading OSX Lion is taking forever with my internet connection. Can anyone help me find a boot Disk to speed up the process?

Apple no longer sells a Lion installation USB flash drive (they did at one time). SO you'll just have to wait for the download to complete. It's best to 'hard-wire' the download - not over wifi but with an Ethernet cable connected directly to your router. That will gain you some speed.
You could also try taking your MBP to a friend's home where they may have a faster Internet service. My download speed is 22+Mbps with my cable company - you may have a friend or neighbor who has something similar? Of course, you are always at the mercy of Apple's servers - sometimes they're just overloaded and a download that should take 20 minutes can take up to an hour and one-half.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

at least that the operator has confirmed to me that he called me. I also have problems with either the start of the mac with the power off. I can not understand if it crashes or is just very very slow.
Finally, I have a problem with the external hard disck. I often said to have been ejected incorrectly (not true) and I start to restore the startup recovery disk because disk utility is ineffective from the normal operating system .. is a shocking thing, but how you reduced. in four years it had never happened. seem to have windows or worse. Wake up.
I am an Italian, alas, and then I would like an answer to my language because my € are the same as German French or English.

You are on Windows 2000, you do not have a "Firefox" button, and should consider yourself to be fortunate in that you still have menus and don't have to do anything to get the menus back instead of the "Firefox" button. (The same applies to Windows XP users).
Use the "File" menu to get to Import. You are not on Windows 7 or Vista, and don't have to put up with the nonsense added for Aero.
If you want the "Firefox" button you can get it with View -> toolbars -> (uncheck) Menu Bar. The menu bar and the "Firefox" button were supposed to be mutually exclusive (which is impossible in some cases without being incompatible).
Once you are using the "Firefox" button ...
Use the "Alt" key to view the menu bar (temporarily) containing File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. On Windows 7 and Vista, the menu bar was hidden by default in Firefox 4 and above. These menu items are more or less available under the "Firefox" button which has the most used of the built-in Firefox menu items available in a different format.
To get back to having menus again. "Firefox" button -> Options (second column) -> (check) Menu Bar
You can make '''Firefox 7.0.1''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6)]. • Help creating a boot disk for ailing powerbook (and journalist!)

Hello, I'm a journalist with a desperate need to recover my Mac.
My Powerbook G4 (operating 10.4.8 I believe) was working fine until I did the latest suggested Mac software upgrade of Safari. Immediately Safari stopped responding hanging up or quitting. So I tried the next recommended update, thinking perhaps the two went together: Security 2008-009 I believe. It required a restart, which I did. (Note: I didn't do the recommended Java or Quicktime update at the same time because I'm currently working in Sierra Leone with terribly slow internet and figured I'd get to it later).
Now, however, the computer won't boot up. I hear the tone, I get the gray screen with the apple, I get the blue screen, I get the opening OS X screen and the blue progress bar, which then quits early on. Then I get a blue screen of alternating hues, which continues infinitely.
I tried all the Apple and web-suggested fixes. I cannot enter safe mode and can only perform functions with the single user mode. I've tried fsck and it said my HD is fine. The problem, I suspect, would be easy enough to fix if I could just reinstall OS X with my CD. However I am currently 7000 miles from home and CD, and in desperate need of my laptop in order to continue my volunteer work.
I do have access to a friend's MacBook Pro 10.4.9 and the internet. I have downloaded Carbon Copy Cloner... however I don't know which files I need to copy in order to create a boot disk. Nor do I know how to create a boot disk to actually put into my computer. I have also been scared by the CCC literature that says I need to erase the target volume... which in this case is my external hard drive containing all of our video footage from the last 8 months!
I use my computer every day, however I am a newbie at using things like Terminal and higher order functions that these occasions seem to require. CCC's Help manual, for me, might as well have been written in hieroglyphs (which, come to think of it, would have been easier as I seem to understand pictures well enough).
I would be eternally grateful for any simple or step-by-step advice which might help me get back to work. I'm training African journalists, and without my computer to edit, we cannot do a thing!
    Thanks,
    Kim

Here's some trouble shooting methods that I've copied from Apple KB articles:
    Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time. Release the keys.
If zapping the PRAM doesn't work, try resetting the PMU.
Warning: Resetting the power manager also resets date and time settings. Performing a PMU reset returns the iBook and PowerBook hardware, including NVRAM, to default settings and forces the computer to shut down.
    PowerBook G4 (DVI) and PowerBook G4 (1 GHz/867 MHz)
If the computer is on, turn it off.
Disengage the two keyboard latches located between the Esc and F1 keys, and the F11 and
F12 keys. (You may also need to disengage the keyboard locking screw located between the
    F5 and F6 keys.)
Lift the keyboard. To ensure no harmful static electricity is transferred to the computer,
properly ground yourself before performing this procedure.
Press and release the reset button located on the upper right side of the logic board near the power button, shown here. Wait 5 seconds.
Press the power button to restart the computer.
PowerBook G4 and PowerBook G4 (Gigabit Ethernet)
If the computer is on, turn it off.
Press and release the reset button located on the rear panel of the computer between the
external video and modem ports. Wait 5 seconds.
Press the Power button to restart the computer.
    HTH!

  • Unable to Log and Capture AND make FCP a boot disk

I am unable to go into Log and Capture mode in FCP 4. I can capture from firewire using I movie just fine so I know the sytem works. The minute I open Log and Capture from within FCP (with the JVC Mini-DV camera hooked up thru Firewire), it crashes. Help. I upgraded from FCP 3 to FCP 4 a couple years ago and it hasn't worked right since. Would re-installing the FCP 4 upgrade work? Also, my system works very sluggish. Please explain to me how I would make the veersion of FCP 4 my boot disk. I realize that I can't have the FCP 4 application and the media on the same drive but is there a way to partition one of my drives and make FCP one of the startup disks? Hope this isn't too confusing. Thanks.

First off, FCP 4 was darn unstable. FCP 4.5 is a free upgrade and is STILL the most stable version out there. FCP 5 is getting there.
    Secondly, try:
Shane's Stock Tip Mantra: If the program was working fine, and now isn't, or just isn't working the way it should, the first things to do are:
    1) Trash your FCP preferences. Download the appropriate version of FCP Rescue at http://fcprescue.andersholck.com/ and run it.
    2) Open the Disk Utility and Repair Permissions.
As for partitioning the hard drive, that isn't necessary. Hasn't been since FCP 3.
