Download causing problems with Microsoft Word

Hi  - I’ve downloaded Acrobat Standard subscription.
Because I couldn’t find a download button, I contacted an Adobe forum and was given another link, which allowed me to download (though with no product key – is that normal?)
What has happened is this:
During the downloading process, I was told to close other programmes, including Word – which I did. I was told that Word was not closed, but it appeared to be so I continued anyway…
I now have the problem that each time I try to open a Word doc., I get the long message that I’ve copied in below relating to a problem with/absence of macros.
Eventually I can open the Word doc by clicking the OK button 5 or 6 times – the message goes at last and I can continue. So not I’m not completely incapacitated, but it’s clearly a problem.
I’ve been in touch with Adobe by phone; but in the end your colleague couldn’t help.
So… I’m wondering – can I uninstall the programme and start again? Or might there be another way around this? I’ve tried repairing Word, but that has made no difference.I don't think I have a Serial Number.
Thanks - Laurence

However, the message reads: "The function you are attempting to run contains macros or content that requires macro language support. When this software was installed you chose not to install support for macros or controls.
"This error usually occurs because of macro security settings. If you know that the macro comes from a source that you trust, you can change your macro security settings to allow you to enable the macro. The way that you change your macro security settings depends on the Microsoft Office System program that you are using.

The certificate is no longer trusted, was revoked by the issuing authority, or is damaged. Unless you are certain that the macro is safe, it is recommended that you not trust or run the macro.
Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) is not installed on your computer. In this case, no VBA macro can be run, regardless of whether the macro has a valid certificate of trust. You or your administrator may have chosen not to install VBA, or the version of Microsoft Office that you are using may not install VBA by default. If your version of Microsoft Office does not provide VBA as an installable feature, you can upgrade to a version that provides VBA support.
If you are unable to change the security settings, it is possible that another program has locked the security settings. Close all Microsoft Office System programs, then restart your program and change the security settings.

  • Problems with Microsoft Word 2011

    Hello,
So, I'm having a slight problem with Microsoft Word 2011. Yes, I realize this isn't exactly Apple related, but I was wondering if it had to do with a compatibility issue with Lion.
I'm running version 10.7.3, and I've found that when I try and change my language in Microsoft Word to English (Canada) - also have tried English (Britain) - and neither of them have changed successfully. My system language is also Canadian English, but none of these options seem to stop my Microsoft Word from trying to correct Canadian English spelling.
If anyone knows if there has been updates to Microsoft Word for this issue, please let me know. I thought it would be worth a shot asking here, as I could find nothing anywhere else.

You may also want to search/ask in the forums run by the make of this app to deal with its problems:

  • Btplayerctrl.exe causes problems in Microsoft Word

I was having a problem in Microsoft Word 2010 and 2013: tooltips that show the content of comments, footnotes, etc., were flickering and disappearing.
I have now identified this as an imcompatibility with btplayerctrl.exe, the Bluetooth Media Player Controller.
In Programs and Features, I see that my version is listed as 3.1.1.1307.0366. On the Lenovo site, I find a driver package with the following list of versions:

I am wondering if I should update my driver to see if this fixes the problem--I don't want to run into further problems due to the update. And, would I have to uninstall the previous version before doing that?
At the moment I am not using bluetooth at all, and I don't even know what btplayerctrl.exe does.

Sorry for the senior moment comment.  I was following onto your mention of that phrase.
If you go into File > Open Recent > More… you can select files you have touched Today, Yesterday, Past Week…
Selecting a file and doing a Save As… should point to the folder where the file went.
Does this work for you to find the file?

  • Freezing problem with Microsoft Word 2004

    Hi,
    I'm recently having this issue...
I would be working (typing) on my Microsoft Word 2004, then jump to another application, come back, and the Word would freeze. It does eventually unfreeze, but I have to wait about a minute until it does, and it gets a bit frustrating. I haven't lost any files due to this problem but I'm afraid I might sometime soon. If I'm just typing on it it's fine - it doesn't freeze. But it's when I use another application and go back to it it freezes. My CPU or memory is below average and I have 2GB of RAM so I don't think it has to do anything too many files/applications opened at the same time.
Does anybody know how to fix this/what's wrong with it?
    Thanks.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.  I already removed Acrobat Pro 9 from my
computer, but I'll be willing to try again with a new download.  I always
wondered by Word would open up when I was sending an e-mail...I don't need
fancy editing for e-mails.  So, now I know.
    Thanks again.

  • SQL Developer Problems with Microsoft Word Apostrophes

    Hi,
I'm trying to copy and paste a list like the following from Microsoft Word to SQL Developer -
    '123','456','789'
    Shouldnt be a problem.
But when ever I paste it into an sql file in Developer it comes out with different styled apostrophes which SQL Developer does not seem to like -
    ‘123’,’123’,’123’
Obviously I can just do a find and replace and change all of the problem apostrophes but is there a way to stop the problem occuring?
It doesnt matter what font I am using in Word, I always get the slanted style apostrophes. But in Developer, if I just normally type an apostrophe, I get the acceptable version - '

I hate copying and pasting to/from word it does far to many things I don't want it to do.
A trick that sometimes works for me is to copy in word, paste in notepad, then copy in notepad and paste into SQL developer.
I have replicated your issue but I have found that even this dosn't work.
You could write a VBA macro in word linked to the ctrl + c short cut that does a text copy and a find and replace on the special chars turning them into normal ones but I think this might be overkill.

  • Saving problems with Microsoft Word

When I try to save my class notes on Microsoft Word 2004, sometimes it works, and other times it will say "Word is connecting to the printer"....and then the program freezes and never unfreezes. When I force quit, I lose my notes for the whole class. Why is it doing this?

Word saves your page setup inside the document. When you save, it wants to talk to the printer driver, which is probably not made by Apple and likely the flakiest piece of software on your machine.
If you have a particularly flaky printer driver, it might be a good idea to install a virtual printer and use that as your default printer. Page setup your word documents with the new printer and save. If you want to print to a real printer, save the document with the virtual printer, change the printer, print, don't save.

  • Problem with Microsoft Word

I've had my Macbook for over a year and never had this problem:
When I try to open a Word document from my Downloads, Microsoft can't open the file. It starts to run, but freezes and won't open anything. Any ideas?

    1. Try a simple restart.
    2. Try a repair permissions using Disk Utility.
    3. Start up using your install DVD and repair your drive using Disk Utility>
    4. Re-install Microsoft Office maybe.....

  • Acrobat causing problems with Outlook/Word

The following sequence generates an error
Open an e-mail message in Outlook using Word as my editor
Close the message and close Outlook
The error is "Microsoft Office Word has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience."  If I disable Acrobat in Office and Outlook (when Acrobat is installed), I don't get the error.  So, the error seems to be Acrobat related.  The computer is running Windows XP, Office 2003 and Acrobat Pro 9.2.0.  Windows and Office have all the most recent service packs and updates.  Previous versions of Acrobat have been installed on this computer at one time (version 7 I think and perhaps other versions).  The computer also has Adobe Reader 8.1.7 installed.
What can I do to get rid of these error messages without disabling Acrobat in Office?
    Thanks for your help.
    Curt

I had noted your comment about earlier versions, but it has been a problem for several versions. I had not heard about it lately, so it may have been an issue with WORD 2003 and not WORD 2007. WORD 2007 and Acrobat have other problems, but I have not heard about the Outlook issue.
The message you listed is posted in the MS knowledgebase and one of the items (not necessarily related to Acrobat) recommends an update to OFFICE. That is something that is often overlooked and may be is the fix you are looking for. At least it would be a good idea to run an update on OFFICE and see if that fixes the problem. Even if it does not, the update is probably a good idea (most folks never seem to think about updating office, though Windows updates almost daily at times). Bill

  • I need to download dell drivers to a jumpdrive connected to my iMac.  Will this cause problems with my Mac?

I need to download dell drivers to a jumpdrive connected to my iMac.  Will this cause problems with my Mac?

Thanks.  These drivers are for the audio, etc. for a dell laptop I purchased used.  ( Needed something cheap for a training video that would only run on Windows.  Tried Emedia player but picture was too fuzzy.)  Dell support said I should contact Apple support for instructions on how to get the drivers onto the jumpdrive.  Any tips on doing that?

  • How to open .doc files created with microsoft word 97... when using mac os x 10.7.4?

hi!  i'm using mac os x 10.7.4 and have Office 2011.  i can no longer open older documents (.doc) created with Microsoft Word 97...  What can i do to get access to these files?
    thanks in advance!

I had too many of these that I had to convert to a modern format. It isn't easy or consistent but one of these normally works:
    1. Open up Word and use the File/Open command rather than just double clicking on the file. Why does this sometimes work? I don't know! Save in docx format.
    2. Try opening the files in Office 2010 on a Windows machine. Again, immediately save as a docx file. This works more often than the advice above.
    3. Download the free LibreOffice and try opening it there. There will be some format problems but easily fixed. Once again, save in docx format.
    4. Breakdown and look for a dedicated format converter.

  • Pdf causes problem with opening files: help, please!

The operating system on my computer is Windows xp and I use Adobe version 11.0.6.
I am having a problem that arises when I get a warning message (particularly when opening pdf or xls files): "AcroRd32.exe - Application Error: The exception unknown software exception (Oxc0000409) occurred in the application at location 0x00411e0b". I am then unable to open most files - pdf, xls, Word etc. - until I switch the machine off and then on. I have discussed this problem with Microsoft, who eventually said that it seems to be caused by something related to Acrobat software.
I should be grateful for advice or help from any participant in this forum.
    Many thanks in advance.

To test the automount hypothesis, you could create
a new user with a home directory someplace completely different and NFS-free, like /opt
    useradd -m -d /opt/testuser -s /bin/bash testuser
    passwd testuser
Then login to CDE as the user.
It does sound like there's something broken with $HOME/.dt
    cheers

As time goes by (months or years), keep your eyes on how long Microsoft continues to support Office 2011 for Mac.  Eventually you should consider Office 365 or Apple's Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.
