Download 'Decompression failed' notice..?

Hi
Im getting a 'decompression failed' notice when downloading .zip files....not had this problem before.
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks

Download and Install the 10.5.8 combo update available here.
http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
After the installation, repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
Go to ~/Library/Safari and move the Downloads.plist file to the Trash and relaunch Safari. If you still have problems with downloading files...
Go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If it's a successful launch, then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash.

  • Why do i get a decompression failed notice for downloading zip files

I'm trying to download my marks for my class and they were posted in a .zip file. however in the downloads box it's telling me that 'decompression failed' and when I try opening it it cannot be opened because it 'is still being downloaded'. I used to be able to open the files, but I don't know what I did.
I'm new to macs, so it's challenging for me to figure out what the exact problem is, and then to find the solution.
    Thanks for your time!

    Greetings,
This may be an issue with the specific Zip file you are trying to open (in which case contact your teacher to have them emailed to you separately).
Make your own Zip file by clicking on any document (like a picture) on the desktop and then go to File > Compress.  Try opening the resulting Zip file and see if it works.  If it works then whatever is going on is with that particular Zip file.  Make sure you are giving the file long enough to download.

  • Decompression failed errors when Safari attempt to download .zip files

    iMac
    Safari - 2.0.4 (419.3)
    Mac OS X 10.4.9
For some reason I can no longer successfully download any Apple Widgets or other software downloads with a .zip extension. Safari simply reports a 'Decompression failed' error message within the Downloads window.
The zip files appar on my Desktop but I cannot open them with either BomArchiveHelper or Stuffit 11.0.2
The only things I have recently done is to install MYOB which I believe comes with it's own Stuffit version as part of the application but I am not sure if this is related as I have also applied the latest software updates from the Apple site.

... but I am not sure if this is related as I have also applied the latest software updates from the Apple site.
That probably doesn't make any difference, since Stuffit Expander is not a part of Apple's software and updates.
You might try reinstalling Stuffit Expander in case any of its components were overwritten by MYOB. Finding Stuffit Expander's installer isn't the easiest thing to do from the front page of their site. It can be downloaded here:
    http://www.stuffit.com/mac/expander/download.html
It requires an email address to get the download link. Just use a junk address if that concerns you. But it does have to be a valid address so you can receive the link they'll send.

  • Trying to download photos from Dropbox onto computer, but each time it says Decompression Failed. Can anyone help?

I am trying to download photos from Dropbox onto my computer. Each I time I attempt this, it just says Decompression Failed often after 1 hour of downloading. Can anyone assist me? I am not hugely technical!

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • What does "Decompression Failed" mean?

I downloaded an educational program and it says the decompression failed. What does that mean and does it mean I can't download the program successfully?

The application was probably fit into a smaller size package for faster downloading using a compression application such as Zip. There are many different compression schemes and yours had problems. Maybe it didn't know how to handle the file, or perhaps the file was corrupted during downloading. Try downloading the file again. You can also right click on a file's link to do the download and place it on your computer so you can do the decompressing separately by double clicking on it. If you still have problems then post the file extension here, the 3 letters after the dot at the end of the file name, e.g. .zip., .sit, etc.

  • Decompression Failed Problem

so i have been trying to download a mod for my game WoW called Ct mod and i get decompression failed when i download it? does anyone know the cure for this problem?

    Hi Jared
are there any instructions for downloading/using the file.?
anything on a website you can show us?
OK I think I find the files - you are trying to d/l CTMode1.46.zip for example, then you double-click the Zip file & get the message "decompression failed".
ctrl-click the file, choose 'Open With..." What is the default app for opening these zip files...... you should have either 'Stuffit Expander' or 'BOMArchiveHelper' set .
IF that is correct & the files still cannot be decompressed - please could you post a url where we can check the files to find out why.

  • I can't unzip files any more.  Says decompression failed.

I am downloading files from a backup site.  Until 2 weeks ago, I had no issues.  I pick the files I want and a zip file is created.  Then I would click on it and it would open up.  Now, when I click on it, I get the message decompression failed.  why?

There are several products -- they say they are for the iphone or ipad.  I am using a MacAir.
Also, do you you know why this changed?  Worked absolutely great before and now this is a real pain.
    Thanks for the help.

I downloaded a Firefox notice and now I get Error:Platform version 1.9.2.3 is not compatible with MinVersion>=1.9.2.4 MaxVersion

Do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
You can skip the step to create a new profile, that is not necessary for this issue.

  • I have an iPhone 4 and the iOS 4.3.5 download keeps failing - error states its corrupted.

I have an iPhone 4 and the iOS 4.3.5 download keeps failing.  It downloads then I get a message stating that the download was corrupted and couldn't be installed.  I've tried it with bitdefender switched off.  I've tried it with it in airplane mode.  My partner has tried to update their iPhone on a different computer to mine and is also getting the same problem and error message.  Help!

That's exactly right.  And since you have a MacBook Air (as I do), that means the synching should occur just fine (if you've set it up right in iTunes).  In other words, once you actually do the update, the iTunes on your MacBook Air will re-sync your photos back to your iPhone.
Basically, the process is that your iPhone gets backed up, wiped clean, then the new iOS version gets installed, then the backup gets restored.  That will restore everything in the article above, which does not include your photos.  But the sync process that happens after the iOS installation would restore your photos from iPhoto given you've set it up that way in iTunes.
When you have your iPhone plugged into iTunes, while looking at the iPhone's summary page, click "Photos" on the right side of iTunes to see how you have your sync set up.
Regardless, it sounds like you'll be fine!  Your photos will wind up in iPhoto once you place them there.  They will be safe there.

  • Download Manager - failing with error 400 Bad Request

Each time I try to download some patches from the download basket I get this error: The request failed: 400.  Download Manager says the files are Partially Downloaded but the downloads never complete (they just cycle round one after another attempting each download before failing).  The connection to SAP ssems to be made correctly (see trace file extract below)
I'm running JRE version 1.4.2_12; download manager ver 2.1.130.  I've tried uninstalling & reinstalling JRE & download manager (numerous times).  Does anyone have any suggestions about what might be the cause?
    Thanks, Chris

The trace seems to show that we're certainly making the initial connections to SAP OK - it just gives up after a few redirections.

  • Downloads sometimes fail to complete in window 7.

Firefox fails to complete many downloads generating a permission error at the end of the download. It creates two files: ? and ?.part. Firefox downloads to the ?.part file but at the end of the download it fails claiming I don't have permission to the directory. My permissions are fine but the files Firefox created are locked.

If it works in the XP mode, but not 7, the previous post pretty well establishes the Windows 7 OS as the culprit. It is obviously using all of the same hardware in each "mode." I
have a Dual-Core HP laptop with 4GB of RAM, running 7 Pro that consistently dies at 90% of a download. (with various files)
It doesn't generate any errors - it just stops incrementing. The same files downloads just fine on our XP PCs.
I have tried all of the proposed solutions without any beneficial results.
This seems to be a pretty common problem with Windows 7. The web has a lot of posts about this problem. (This happens with wired and wireless connections.)
WHEN is Microsoft going to fix this problem?
