Download DVR files to my MacBook Pro?
We're getting ready to cut the Comcast Cable TV cord and save ourselves about $100 a month. My question is this: We've got a few shows recorded on two DVRs that I'd love to somehow save. Is it possible to download those from the DVRs to my MacBook Pro so we can still watch them after getting rid of our cable tv service and the DVRs?
It's badged Comcast and Motorola, DCX3400.
I suspect that stuff on your Comcast DVR is encrypted, thus you won't be able to off load it. I know there are ways to use your Mac as a DVR, but I'm not aware of anyway to get stuff that has already been recorded on a Comcast DVR off of the DVR.

I am attempting to install Windows 8.0 into a virtual machine with VMWare Fusion 6.02. I've got XP running on an older MacPro so with VMWare so I'm somewhat familiar with how this works but by no means an expert. Foolishly I purchased a license for Windows 8.1 without doing any research on how to get the ISO file. I can download the .exe file to my MacBook Pro no problem but need to have the .iso file on external media in order to install using VMWare which is pretty straightforward (usually).

I am trying to open pptx files on my MacBook Pro and continue to get "No Text Converter is installed for this application" even though I have dowloaded several converters that were supposed to work and I just downloaded Apache Open Office 3.4.1 with no luck. Its all in the title. I am trying to use bootcamp to download windows 7 on my macbook pro mountain lion, but I keep getting this error. I tried going to Disk Utility, and my active volume already is formatted under Mac OS Extended (Journaled), so I don't know how to fix it. I already backed up the volume on an external harddrive. Also, everything under the volume I wanted to edit is greyed out, and when I try to restore the backup that I created via time machine, it pops up with another error that says "Could not unmount volume "/" (Resource Busy).
Please be gentle, I'm used to using windows and don't know like anything about computers. If someone could give me a detailed explanation for these errors and a solution of how I could correctly download windows on my mac I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!Try a restart.
If that doesn't fix the problem, shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application unistaller. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

If you download Adode Reader (free but very limited) or GoodReader (many features) - you can use file sharing.
Connect the iPad to the Mac and launch iTunes. Select the iPad on the left side under Devices. Click on the Apps tab in the iTunes window on the right. Scroll down to the File sharing apps window. Click on the file sharing app that you are using (Adobe Reader or GoodReader in this example). Drag the document from the desktop onto the file sharing window on the right side - or click on the add button in the lower right corner - and navigate to where the file is on the Mac and select it that way. -

Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. Step 1 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.” While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin. Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem? If the two machines are on the same WiFi network, login to both machines, then open Finder and click AirDrop on each machine:
On the MBP, go to your Downloads folder and drag the AutoCad Trial download file to your userid in the AirDrop window, drop it on the image and it should appear on the Mini desktop. -

There are a number of methods, including via synch to iTunes on a computer and emailing them to yourself.
I prefer using DropBox, which allows me to store them in the cloud and download only when needed, and send them to the app I choose (plus I do not synch my iPad to itunes). I typically use GoodReader or Adobe Reader, but any app that can read PDFs is typically available in the menu. You would need to install DropBox on the Mac as well as download the app on the iPad. Both are free. -

Please, kindly open up bluetooth to accept all connections from all devices. Now it difficult for me to share bluetooth files from my mac bookpro to my iphone, unless i attached it through email.

I want to share files between my MacBook Pro and G5, I am using an AirPort Extreme Base Station. I can see the MacBook Pro on the G5 and vice versa, I have file sharing turned on both, as well as Screen Sharing. I currently am sharing using Target Disk Mode, I want to know what other wireless options are available to me?
I want to have the 2 computers able to see each other and be able to share files be drag and dropping, I also have another G4 on using Tiger I want to be a part of this happy Apple sharing family. Can someone please tell me how to accomplish my goal?

SebastianThe mac help is: Finder window/Help/Mac Help. It provides answers to a lot of common questions, including file sharing.
As for the ethernet cable, you can either buy another one (inexpensive and available in many places including Walmart), or just unplug it from your modem temporarily and plug it back in when you're done.

As I mentioned, I prefer using the ethernet/file sharing method if I need to copy a lot of files; however, there is another way around if you have an external drive and just want to copy one or two files. Just plug the external into one computer, copy the file onto it, unplug, plug into the other computer and copy.
