Download error 101 - even though plenty of disk space available
Trying to download/ install Elements 12 and keep getting the error 101 message - have ample disk space - this on windows 7 using Internet explorer.

"Not Enough Free Disk Space" error message, but Finder shows plenty of disk space available
Apologies if this is a double post, but I have been searching all over and can't seem to find this issue in the forums.
I have a 256GB Macbook with a fresh copy of Lion installed, am going through the process of migrating files back over, after which I have approximately 125GB free. However, whenever I go online and try to download any type of file (PDF, sofware install files, etc.), an error message displays saying:
Safari could not download the file “blahblahblah.dmg” because there is not enough free disk space.
Not sure how this is possible since the .dmg file is 18MB and Finder is saying there is over 125GB free. I've tried repairing disk permissions, booting off the Lion recovery disk and repairing the startup disk, all to no avail. Anyone had this issue before?Don Archibald wrote:

Thanks for the suggestion. That wasn't the problem, but your suggestion did shed light on something else. I was able to perform a right-click action and Save File As... to my Documents folder. On further analysis, it appears that the "Macintosh HD", Downloads folder, and Desktop are showing the "pencil with a line through it" icon in the bottom left of the Finder window, which would suggest those areas are read-only for some reason.
My user account is the only one on the machine and it's an admin account. Any guesses as to why that might have set itself that way, or any suggestions on how to change it? I've already tried repairing permissions on the startup disk in Disk Utility. -

I am running the newest FCPX 10.0.9 and Mavericks, and I am editing a large multicam project. I have approx. 190 GB left on my external event/project disk via USB3 (it has 2TB in total), and I get the error message:
"There is not enough disk space available to process clips. Clear some space and try again."
when I am trying to add clips to an angle in one of my multicam clips. I have made more than 8 multicam clips in the same event, without that problem, but now it won't let me add more.
What's the problem?This was driving me nuts as well until I found the sneaky checkbox. In the editing tab in Preferences there is a checkbox for "Optimize media for multicam." If that's checked, Final Cut is rendering ProRes files for every clip you bring into multicam, so it just eats memory. Unchecking that solved my issues; hope it helps you or anyone who comes across this!

When I try to update Elements 9 I get an error message despite the fact that the update seems to download completely. Why?

When using CCC (Carbon Cophy Cloner) or Disk Utility to clone a Mac HD of one new iMac to another, over ThunderBolt, we are getting I/O errors. Even though the clone fails, the destination system does boot and log in, however, the logins take a very very very long time.
Thoughts.
Edit: Already ran Disk Utility. Also reinstalled a fresh OS on top of the cloned OS and it seemed to remedy the problem. Then, cloned to next machine in the row of the lab. Same problem.OK, by that I assume that you used Disk Utility to repair the subject disk and it reported "The volume (name) appears to be OK" in green.

If so, the Thunderbolt connection begins to look suspicious.
Reinstalling OS X subsequent to the "clone" operation may be an acceptable workaround but you should not have had the I/O errors you describe, nor should the login times (subsequent to the initial login, that is) be unacceptably long. It calls into question the integrity of all the information that was transferrred.

Are you still facing this issue?
Do you have any previous version of Reader installed, if yes and it is 9 or above. Uninstall that using Adobe Reader cleaner tool: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Once that is uninstalled restart your machine and try install again.
Also you may try to create a new user profile with Admin rights and try to install again.

Just to make sure, open Mac App Store and click Purchases. Can you pause the download and restart it?

ShivIs this a clean install or an upgrade? 20 GB, though greater than the minimum, is pretty minimal. How much memory do you have on the system? 2008 would try to create a page file of 1.5x physical memory, so if you are building on a large
memory system, you could be having an issue there.

I can't download Xcode even though I have enough space.
When I try to install Xcode, it tells me:
We could not complete your purchase.
There is not enough disk space available to install the product.

The installer will need to expand files that will take up more space than the original download.
I have 5.26GB listed for the Xcode application alone - not including supporting files that may be installed elsewhere.
5GB is really too little space to leave for the OS to write it's caches & swap data, you should have at least 10GB free at all times IMO (ideally more like +20GB, and only if it's an SSD).
I think you need to make a copy of your disk & then remove files that you can live without. -
I have installed the most recent version of Snow Leopard on my MAC, and I am trying to install Mountain Lion from the Apple Store. It will not install, because it says I do not have 2GB of memory, even though I have over 200GB available. Please help.

One thing is the memory, and another thing is the hard disk space. You are telling me that you have 200 GB of free space on the hard disk, but the App Store is telling you that you have to install 2 GB of memory or more on your Mac if you want to upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.
First of all, open > About this Mac > More Info, and copy "Model Identifier" here, so we can know what Mac you have got and how much memory you can install.
We recommend to buy the memory in OWC or Crucial (Crucial is cheaper and offers the same compatibility warranty as OWC) because you won't probably have any problem with the memory you buy there -
I am attempting to purchase Dues Ex: Human Revolution which requires 17GB to run, I currently have 27.34GB free.

You need at the very least 15% free disk space. More if possible. Definitely not enough free space to install a 17GB app.

And make sure your Mac meets the app's minimum requirements which according to the App Store is Mac OS X 10.7.3 or later under Information right side of the App Store window.

Hello to you all,
My Macbook Air won's boot up and upon diagnosis, i realized my startup disk is full to 99% even with 2GB Hard Disk space. It wont also enable me boot into safe mode too.
when i power up, i get this prolong gray screen which wont change screen but remain so. Infact i am handicapped.
Please help as all my work documents and project files are on this machine and i can't afford to loose them all...

On start up my MBA would not boot up the apple logo came on but only a blank screen appeared no fan i followed several start up recommendations but to no avail so I took the MBA to the nearest Apple repair centre again the same symptoms on start up ......very sorry sir you need a new mother board that will be $500 not feeling confidant in the product declined and was going to put it on ebay for spares.
On return home I pressed the start up button and it started normally everything was working fine i decided to reinstall all the software what has caused the problem I have no idea but it is after several attempted reboots it finally started on its own so don't give up if you have this problem it may come to life -
