Download errors - defaulting to Adobe Reader regardless of file format.

Before this week, whenever I would download a file, a box would pop up asking me if I wanted to Open the file or Save It. In either case, a file would be found in my Download  folder as expected. A week ago, I reluctantly added an old version of Office for Mac (2008) to my 2012 Mac mini (OSX 10.8.5) and since then, every file I try to download, no matter what the format, seems to default to Adobe Reader when I try to open the file.  All the files have a .part extension and when I try to open them, an error message like this follows: "Adobe Reader could not open 'owUNL4ca.part' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded). How do I fix this?

In the Finder, select a file of the type in question, then select
File ▹ Get Info
from the menu bar, or press the key combination command-I. In the General section of the Info dialog, select the application you want from the menu labeled Open with. If the application is not in the menu, it may not be able to open that kind of file, but if you know otherwise, select Other… Then click Change All… and close the dialog.

  • Adobe Reader X : Highlight File Format

    Hi,
I'm missing in Adobe Reader X the Highlight-Server (Acrobat Highlight Server Plugin) which was available since many Years.
What can i do with Reader X to get this Feature back?
More Information about the HighlightFileFormat: http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/en/pdf/HighlightFileFormat.pdf
You can look here for an example with highlighting my Name at
    http://www.heise.de/home/kd/pdfhighlight/ct1005165.pdf#xml=http://www.heise.de/home/kd/pdf highlight/ct1005165.xml
If you use Adobe Reader 9, you have to enable "Enable search highlights from external highlight server" in "Preferences|Search" .
Klaus Ditze, Heise Zeitschriften Verlag GmbH & Co. KG

    Oh thanks!
Using the "#search" Parameter is not a solution for big Document, when a
server has better Search Options, then simple PDF-Search in Adobe Reader.
That so bad, that Adobe has killed this Feature.

I cannot find a DDE  file on my windows 7 computer.

Uninstall Reader. Use Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs to remove all traces of Reader. Download a new copy from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise

  • Error 1625 with Adobe Reader Update on Windows Server 2008 R2 OS

For the last two months when I receive updates to Adobe Reader 9.3 I get Error 1625:  Update failed.  Update not permitted by system policy.   But there is no system policy since this is a stand-alone machine.
Windows Server 2008 R2 is equivalent to Windows 7 OS but has some special security features.  If I could manually download and run this update and by pass the Adobe automated install I might be able to fix the problem by running the update "as administrator" but I think Adobe doesn't give me that choice.
I have uninstalled and re-installed Adobe Reader 9.3 but still get the same result when applying this update.
Adobe reader is working fine, so I would be happy also if Adobe just stopped trying to send me this update.
    Any suggestions?

I did.  When I posted my last response ending in "did not work"  I had a dashed line and
Adobe in there infinite wisdom interpreted that as an  end of message.   So here is the rest
of my last post which was cut off:
So I then tried ʇɐb ɹəuəllıʍ's  solution (the one above your suggestion) - downloading the updates to my desktop and applying them by hand.   That worked.
But this means I may need to download all future updates by hand for this computer.   It's great that ʇɐb ɹəuəllıʍ  posted links for these three updates above,  but I'm wondering how to easily automate getting download links for all future updates since I don't have access to the parent directory http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/.
Please suggest a way I can install all future updates by hand without requesting a special link.  In particular, when you download an update using  Adobe Reader "search for updates", where is that update saved so perhaps I could run it by hand instead of the automated way.

  • An internal error occurred in adobe reader

an internal error occurred in adobe reader.

I was frustrated by this problem as well. I even uninstalled and then resinstalled a fresh download: SAME Problem.
Now the problem seems to have been RESOLVED on my Windows Vista Laptop.
Instead of trying to open by double-clicking on file icons, I opened the Adobe Reader from the Windows Explorer. On the first screen appeared the usual Adobe Licence & Terms that I had to ACCEPT. This screen NEVER showed up before after either upgrading to the Adobe Reader X or after reinstalling. After accepting the License and TERMS. this problem does NO longer reproduce.
I have successfully opened fewer than 10 PDF files without the annoying error so far. I hope others will reproduce this "FIX" before claiming this was the root cause of the problem.
Hopefully Adobe will display a more meaningfull error message for such a problem.

    Google Chrome is a problem:
if you use Chrome's own PDF viewer, the results are unpredictable.
if you use the Adobe Reader plugin with Chrome, it may reject (block) it if it is not the latest version.  Reader 11.0.08 is the latest version for Windows XP, but Chrome may insist on the current version 11.0.10.
My suggestion; use a different browser!

  • How do I choose Preview as default over Adobe Reader?

Once you update one thing . . . can of worms.  How do I choose preview as default over Adobe Reader?
Here's why I want to change the default viewer, in case anyone has ideas: When I updated to Reader X (as required by some of our industry-specific programs) my Quickbooks Online financial program no longer prints in either Safari or Firefox.
I called QB and they said they only support Reader 9.3. Uninstalled Reader X, tried install 9.3. No go--isn't compatible with Mac OS 10.6.7. Gave QB my "thoughts" on their not being up to speed with Reader updates . . .
So, maybe changing to Preview as the default reader will work. Adobe 10 has overruled Preview.
How do I set the preference to go back to Preview?
    Any help appreciated, thanks.

keep receiving error to launch adobe reader and accept agreement on a mac opening in safari

You need to do what the message says... to launch an app in Mac OS you go to the Applications folder and find the Adobe Reader icon. Double click on it. If there is more than one, click on each in turn, accept any agreements, quit.

I have downloaded adobe reader and my file still wont open

Have you accepted the license agreement for Reader?
If not, go to C/Program Files (or Program Files (x86))/Adobe/Reader 11.0/Reader
Double click the "eula.exe" file (it may just say "eula")
    Accept the license agreement.
Open Reader and you should be able to open PDFs.
If it's another issue, please let us know.

Which files do you have in the defaults\pref folder in the Firefox program folder?

    See also "Other solutions":

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 22.0: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
