Download failed or won't mount everytime I try updating to 10.4.6

I have 10.4.5 running on my eMac and have the latest security update that I can see on the apple download page. But everytime I try updating to 10.4.6 I get an error message half way through the download that says "Mount Failed" and sometimes "Download Failed". Is there something I'm missing or am I trying the wrong download here? The download I'm trying is the 10.4.6 combo for PPC.
I had been downloading the "combo" since 10.4.2 and things always worked fine. Any ideas?

The Security Updates are dependant on the version of OS10.4.x you are currently running
Software Update determines that but if you do the download and install yourself then you need to check the relevant document for the upgrade (click on the title and the info sheet will appear). Also the info can be got from

If you are running OS 10.4.5 then the latest Security Update will have updated the relevant files as though they were 10.4.8 and that might be the problem
Download the Combo for 10.4.8 for PPC and hopefully it will install (when using the Combo versions you can jump revisions as they in effect overwrite the system files and so give you a complete new system. REMEMBER Backup first , Repair Permisions second , Install Upgrade third
There is also Security Update 2006-007 (10.4.8 Client PPC) to install as well after which Security Update 2006-008 (PPC) may need to be applied again

There are a couple of reasons this might happen. The first is as Bernd suggests - some sites don't expect mobile browsers and they refuse to serve PDF's to browsers they think won't have a PDF Reader. Sometimes, people see a message like this message because the PDF contains advanced features (like dynamic XFA forms). These PDF files actually embed this message into the document so that it is displayed by viewers that cannot display the content. These files can only be viewed on desktop versions of Adobe Reader. The message looks like this:
"Please wait...
If this message is not eventually replaced by the proper contents of the document, your PDF viewer may not be able to display this type of document.

What was the complete wording of the error message?
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

External drive and ipod won't mount after latest security update

I just downloaded the latest security update on my powerbook, and now my lacee external hard-drive won't mount. I ran disc permissions and still nothing. My ipod charges from the firewire port but doesn't mount either. The hard-drive mounts fine on my dome imac which appears to have the latest updates as well. Could it be a problem with the firewire port itself or something to do with the security update? Thanks for the help.

Your PowerBook is hurting my friend. Check "About this Mac" and see if the memory reported is the actual memory you have installed on the machine. I had a PB that had 1GB installed but the machine only read 256. Ended up needing a logic board replacement. Check http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303173 to see if it applies to you.
Unplug all devices from the PB, leaving only power connected.
If it everything seems cool, then you'll want to start up in "single user mode". Restart the PB and hold down the  + s (apple and s) keys until you get a black display with white characters. Once you get the command prompt signified by a # character. At that point type in the following at the prompt
fsck -yf
then hit your return key
As the system check your HD, notice any errors that are displayed. After it is done it will inform you of any modifications, or if it thinks everything is cool.
then again, type in
fsck -yf
then hit your return key
You'll want to have run the fsck -yf utility a total of 3 times. Hopefully at the end everything will be good (No errors) "* appears to be OK".
In any case, type in
reboot -n
then hit your return key
Your PB will reboot. After the OS has loaded, plug in your FW devices and see if they mount. Either way post back with results.

S.m.a.r.t. status failing, HD won't mount, verify, or repair. Can't make disk image. Any other options?

My iMac won't boot up. It gets to the grey screen with the progress bar. Gets about a third through the progress bar, then shuts off.
I boot up with the recovery disk. The S.M.A.R.T. status is "failing." Disk Utility shows the following message:
"The disk has a hardware problem that can't be repaired. Back up as much data as possible and replace the disk. See and Authorized Apple dealer for more information."
I have tried:
• In disk utility the HD can't be verified or repaired
• Making a disk image from disk utility. I got a message "input/output error"
• Using my MacBookPro laptop to boot up the iMac in target disk mode. The iMac wouldn't mount.
I backed up up a few months ago, so I'm not totally out of luck. But there's a few recent projects I'd like to salvage.
This is a 21.5" iMac with 3.33 ghz, 2x2 gb, 1000gb running the latest Yosemite OS
Any further things I should try before carting the iMac to Tekserve? Thanks everybody.

I'm afraid from your description it sounds as if the disk is seriously damaged in some way. I don't think there is anything more you can do, short of taking it to a specialist recovery service which would be extremely expensive.
Your service engineer will take the disk out and replace it with a new one; ask to keep the original disk. You could try putting it in an enclosure (more expense) and seeing whether anything will access it, but I have to say that given what you've already done it's extremely unlikely you will have any sucess.

Battlestar Episode: Torn, Download Fails and Won't Continue

i know that this has been posted before about previous episodes, but i want to bring some attention to the issue. after downloading 11.1 megabytes, i receive an error that says
"there was a problem downloading 'Torn / Battlestar...' the network connection was reset."
i've deleted the original file and tried again on multiple computers to no avail. it's failed repeatedly all day long.
it's a great show and i love itunes, but why pay 35 dollars for a service i'm not receiving? is a solution from apple likely? is anyone having the same problem (i know they have in the past)?

Seems that there is fluke with the file??? I have seem to have gotten a little further than most of you in that the file downloaded in its entirety only to freeze up Itunes when it was processing the file. When I went to check to check for downloaded purchases it was not there, nor in my library. If anyone can manage to get anyone on the phone/email with an actual contact, I am sure this forum would be grateful. This is a first for me for either music/video and frankly a little taken off guard by lack of information to deal with this issue.

I have Photoshop CS5, and I am re-installing it on a new hard drive. Every time I try to install the updates, it says download failed, and won't install any updates.

My Toshiba external hard drive won't mount after OSX Mavericks update. Please help.

Two days ago I updated to Mavericks 10.9.3 and prior to this, my Toshiba 1TB external hard drive worked perfectly well. Since the update, my hard drive will no longer mount. It shows up in Disk Utility but will not let me 'mount', 'verify disk' or 'repair disk' through Disk Utility. My sister has an identical Macbook Pro which she has not updated to Mavericks. I have tested my hard drive on her laptop and it works just fine. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? Do I need to reformat my hard drive (and if so, will that clear everything on my hard drive?) or is there a simple fix?

I have a problem with my Iphone 5 16 gb. Since morning i am trying a make an outgoing call. It fails repeatedly and results in CALL FAILED. Even i am not able to receive the calls.
If the call gets connected it automatically fails after some ten seconds. Please help me out quickly as i am searching for a job and if this is continuing i cant receive any calls from recruiters or employers.

Yes, the recovery mode erases all content and settings and restores the iPhone to factory condition. Without a backup to use to restore you will have to go through the entire setup procedure again, including Apple ID, email, iCloud, and so on. But, you can redownload your app and music purchases by opening the app and iTunes stores and tap purchases, then just download again.
But photos and messages, etc., will be lost.
