  • First I tried to download Firefox 4 and was refused permission. Then I posted to this forum and received a confirmation link by e-mail, but the link failed.

I downloaded Firefox 4, but when I tried to move it into the Applications folder, I was refused permission. I tried to post this problem to this forum and received a confirmation link by e-mail, but it failed: I got the message "Something is wrong."

If you get an error message that you do not have sufficient permissions to update then easiest is to trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded

  • How can I download Firefox and get it working?

    Hi,
I just bought a Macbook Pro yesterday. It's a 13 inch early 2011 and has Mac OSX Lion 10.7. I just downloaded firefox from mozilla. It mentioned Firefox 8.0 for Mac OSX. Now the file (firefox 8.0.dmg) is sitting in my application section and when I double click it it says the following disk image could not be opened and inside the box the reason mentioned is not recognised. I have been a PC (Windows) user all my life and this is my first Mac/ Apple product. I would appreciate all the help I can get with this. Thanks.

Thanks for responding..I tried downloading firefox again but was getting the same format Firefox 8.0.dmg so I cancelled the download figuring it'll be the same. Should I go ahead and download the same format again? The firefox download page automatically connected to that download page for Mac.

I just wondered what is the reason for this request ?
You are probably aware that old unsupported and insecure versions of Firefox are going to increase the risk to your System and your personal data.

    Please do the following.
Click '''Help '''| '''Check For Updates'''. The option to update should appear and version 3.6.17 should download and install.
However, sometimes things go pear-shaped and you get version 3.5.19. If that happens, repeat the same steps to update to 3.6.17.
Once you have 3.6.17 installed, you'll get the opportunity to update to the current version which is 4.0.1 ''Please don't do that for the moment because you first of all have to update your plugins''. To do the latter, please do the following.
Go to http://www.java.com/en/ and install the latest version of Java.
Update Adobe Shockwave for Director via http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/
    Update Adobe Flash via http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
    Update Adobe Reader via http://get.adobe.com/reader/?promoid=BUIGO
For security details regarding the Adobe updates, see: http://www.adobe.com/support/security/advisories/apsa11-02.html
Once you've updated all those, go to '''Help '''| '''Check For Updates '''again to update to version 4.0.1

  • I downloaded firefox 4 and now it will only go to work offline how do I get on the internet

I cannot get on the interet. I downloaded firefox 4 and it says it will only work offline. where do I change this

    '''rweeks''':
One of the changes in Firefox 4: '''''by default''''' Firefox 4 does not display the "Save Tabs and Exit" warning message when closing multiple tabs, but it can be turned back on by changing some preferences.
*<u>Saving tabs was not removed from Firefox 4</u>, but it works a bit differently.
**By default, Firefox 4 will not ask to save tabs, but instead it will always save your tabs on exit. You can restore them next time by choosing "Restore Previous Session" from the History menu, or pressing the restore button on Firefox's default home page.
**''<u>Note: This was a decision by the developers. On this forum, we are all '''uncompensated volunteers''' here to help other users. The developes/employees of Mozilla/Firefox rarely, if ever visit here.</u>''
Also make sure you do not clear "Browsing History" when using Clear Recent History:
To display the "Save Tabs and Exit" message when closing multiple tabs, you can do the following:
#Type '''''about:config''''' in the URL/Location/Address bar and press the Enter key
#Accept the warning message (promise to be careful)
    #The preferences page/list will open
    #Filter = '''''browser.tabs.warnOnClose'''''
#If its value is set to false, double-click on it (in the lower panel) to toggle its value to true
#Repeat steps 4 and 5 for these following 3 preferences also:
    #*'''''browser.warnOnQuit'''''
    #*'''''browser.warnOnRestart'''''

I have used Firefox on my computer for several years. Today, after upgrading to the new version, I was not able to open Firefox. I have tried several times uninstalling and re-downloading Firefox. It still will not open! Is the new version not compatible with Windows Vista?

I hope that link points to mozilla.com or mozilla.org
You will have to close firefox.exe with the Windows Task Manager from the "Processes" tab of the WTM since you don't have a widow to close.
The best way to close Firefox is through File > Exit, for those who stuck with the "Firefox" button click on the Firefox button then Exit. It is not perfect but it is a lot better than just closing the window with the "X" in the upper right corner

  • I have a Mac running OS 10.5.8. I downloaded Firefox 4 and not the program will not open at all. I am also unable to download the previous version that was running fine. I'm using Safari to contact you.

I have a Mac G5 running OS 10.5.8. I downloaded Firefox 4 and now the program will not open at all. I get an error message that reads --
"You cannot open the application 'Firefox" because it is not supported on this architecture."
I am also unable to find a link to download the previous version (3.6) that was running fine. (I'm using Safari to contact you.)

Same proble here, although the Firefox system requirements says it is OK to have PowerPC G3 G4 or G5 ( I have G5 2GHZ)
My solution; very simply use timemachine to restore the previous Frefox 3.x
    worked great in 3 mns

  • I am a gambler in the UK and have just downloaded firefox 4; now I am unable to use the live betting on site Sporting Index which is perfectly legal in the UK. I was also able to obtail this site with my previous edition of firefox??

I bet in the uk with sporting index as I live in the uk.
I often look at their live betting prices of firefox.
Now I have downloaded firefox 4 it won't let me do this anymore so I would like to stop version 4 and go back to the old version which allowed me access to the live betting prices on Sporting Index

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • I downloaded Firefox 5.0. Firefox will not open. States running offline. I have a Intel Pentium/Windows XP system.

I downloaded Firefox 5.0. Firefox will not open. States running offline. I have a Intel Pentium/Windows XP system.
This also happened when I tried to download Firefox 4.
    Firefox 3.6.18 works fine

You may need to delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing the latest Firefox.<br />
In case you still have problems after installing then check your security software.
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

It was working fine and I had no problems, and then one day I tried opening a window and it froze. When I tried quiting the program my whole window went black. The x to the close the window doesn't work. The only option I have in my tool bar is Firefox and nothing happens when I try to quit firefox. Every time I try to shut down my computer Firefox prevents it. I haven't updated Firefox yet, so it's an older program, but only by a month or two. What's going on and how do I fix it?

This is the first time it's ever happened. I downloaded the new operating system for Firefox but I can't install it until the Firefox currently running on my laptop quits, which it won't.

  • Wheb U first downloaded Firefox there was a toolbar at top of screen. Now it is gone. How do I retrueve it?

When I first downloaded Firefox there was a tool bar at top of screen with print, yahoo and other items. Now it is gone. My question is this--how can I get it back?

Hit the '''Alt''' key and release to temporarily show the Menu bar, then open View > Toolbars and select Menu bar, so it has a check-mark. <br />
The F10 can also be used on most PC's to temporarily reveal the Menu bar.

  • Having a problem removing ALL of firefox after it was corrupted by another download

I downloaded a program that scrambled my Firefox browser. I couldn't remove all of that bad software --- it left a task bar that I can't get rid of. I can't find the right people to get help there. I tried to uninstall my Firefox in order to reinstall it, hopefully without the task bar. It seemed to uninstall properly until I downloaded Firefox, overwriting the old Firefox, but it wouldn't reinstall without the same problems that the old corrupted Firefox had. I'd appreciate any help I can get. The corrupted Firefox is not loading some web sites properly.

I managed to get around part of the problem by doing a system restore back to a point where the ill-behaved program was downloaded. However, I'm having a different problem now. While I am still getting a shortcut for Firefox on my desktop it isn't bringing the browser up. I tried putting the desktop icon in the trash and trying to take Firefox and download it anew and try to get it up and running. While I was able to do the download, setting Firefox as my default browser in the process, the program wouldn't launch from the install message or from the new shortcut. Do I uninstall firefox and then try it again? Any suggestions?

  • Firefox wont load and when I tried downloading firefox 4 it said the program was already in use

I don't have any more details than the fact that I cannot replace my malfunctioning browser with firefox 4. I think the old one was upgrading and then I told it not now and messed it up.

Your system details just say "leopard" Are you running Mac 10.5 (Leopard) on a PPC Mac or an Intel Mac? Firefox 4 requires Mac OS 10.5 (or above) and an Intel processor.
'''If you are on an Intel Mac:'''<br>
Restart the computer and start Firefox . Does it work now? If not, then:
#Open the Application folder in Finder
#Drag Firefox.app into the Trash (or to a backup location, if you prefer)
#Use Safari or another browser to re-download Firefox 4 from www.mozilla.com
    # Install Firefox 4. See [[Installing Firefox on Mac]] for details.
'''If you are on a PPC Mac:''' <br>
Do the above but, instead of downloading Firefox 4, download and install Firefox 3.6 from www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older.html

  • When I first downloaded firefox I was able to blog on blogger. Now I can't see pictures on my blog and I can't create a new post. What is the problem?

I downloaded firefox last week and everything was fine. I was able to use blogger and add new post to my blog. Now my blog does not show the title picture and some of the post pictures will not show up either.
The page to create a new post looks funny and different from when I first downloaded firefox. The toolbox to edit the text/font is not there. The spellcheck is also missing. I can't add pictures or video because that is missing too.
I can use IE to blog, but I liked firefox better until these problems started.

No, you need to (re)install the current Firefox version.
You can find the latest Firefox release in all languages and for all Operating Systems here:
    *Firefox 13.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
If images are missing then check that you aren't blocking images from some domains.
*Check the permissions for the domain in the current tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
*Check that images are enabled: Tools > Options > Content: [X] Load images automatically
*Check the exceptions in "Tools > Options > Content: Load Images > Exceptions"
*Check the "Tools > Page Info > Media" tab for blocked images (scroll through all the images with the cursor Down key).
If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "<i>Block Images from...</i>" then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.
Make sure that you do not block third-party images, the permissions.default.images pref should be 1.
There are also extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and security software (firewall, anti-virus) that can block images.
