Download folder doesn't open and instead makes Terminal open up

MacOSX 10.9.5 on MacBook Air of 2014. Open downloadfolder in Finder does not work. Trying so opens the terminal window saying only the name of the folder and -bash- . In Finder list view moreover the download folder lost its little triangle at the beginning of the name.
This behaviour started when I tried an old mediathek to open in iPhoto 9.5.1. It said I must download an actualization file, install it and then ... I did so, but when now opening iPhoto with any photo(s) it says it needs actualization and when I click on "Actualizar" (all Spanish), iPhoto crashes each time. The downloadfolder problem started the same moment.
On my second MacBookAir, same MacOSX, same purchase date, it did the following, when trying to open that same mediathek with the same version of iPhoto: Image folder (instead of download folder ...) does not open and starts Terminal as described above. MOREOVER all icons on the screen are "fixed" (not sorted!) and can't be moved to a different place on screen with the trackpad or mouse (can be moved though to other folders and trash bin). They follow, but when releasing they jump back to their original position. And iPhoto on this second one behaves equally, asking for "actualizar" and then crashes, when I confirm it.
Weird, isn't it? Thanks for any good advice ...

i just went into preferences, deleted what was in the home page, and entered a new home page address which solved the problem,

Mesh enabling Downloads folder stopd Firefox opening it?

I have my Dowloads folder sync'd to all my other computers using Microsoft's Mesh system. When I got a new computer, downloading a file would produce the downloads list and allow me to run prog or open containing folder. Once I pointed downloads to a Live Mesh folder (so I only have to download a file once) this all stopped working. The downloads box opens and the file starts downloading OK, if I am quick enough I can right click the downloading file and "open containing folder" but if not, the download finishes and then the file vanishes from the list (its still in the folder and been downloaded OK, just not easily accessible from Firefox download window??

I know that you can save and open a document by performing these three steps:
1. Confirming to save a file to the Downloads folder
2. Open the download manager by clicking the temporarily green arrow
3. Clicking on the downloaded file
What I would like to know is whether or not it is possible to have Firefox open a saved file ''automatically''. At the moment, if I choose to open it automatically, it is only saved to my temp folder.
It would be great though if it was saved to my Downloads folder ''and'' opened with the respective program on my pc. Is there a way to do this?

Are you an administrative user?
Are you using any tools which impact System cache? If you are, stop. They are NOT maintenance tools despite their description. They should only be used to troubleshoot cache issues. They can create their own cache issues if you aren't careful, and I only recommend using them on systems that are already backed up. If you were using such a tool and found out how to remove it from its developer, including any supporting documents, and don't have a backup, still backup your data at least twice, as you may be able to import the data back once erase and installing the system. Let us know where you stand. If you aren't using such a tool, still backup your data at least twice, as there are other things that can corrupt or disable System Preference launching, but we can't tell safely unless your data files are backed up at least twice in two separate locations.

Hi, Thanks for responding. Most downloads you can double click and/or drag over to applications for it to actually install however this one you can't. It just acts like an empty folder and does nothing. I did update to Mountain Lion recently and wondered if it was incompatible or something or if I was doing anything wrong? Thanks.

Adobe Download Assistant doesn't open

I'm hoping someone can help me. My PC runs Vista. I cannot seem to install a trial version of Acrobat XI. I download the trial, using Chrome, and the Adobe Download Assistant file is shown on my download bar at the bottom of my screen. When I click on it to open and run it, it doesn't open and the file disappears. It doesn't open when I go to my Downloads folder and try to open it from there either. I thought it may be because I don't have an Adobe ID, so I created an account, but that didn't help either. I'm really interested in this software, but if I can't even get it to install, I'm wondering whether Nitro Pro 9 isn't a better bet. Is there anyone who can help me?

LR CC downloaded but doesn't open

I downloaded the new LR CC from my Creative Cloud desktop application and when I click on the LR icon it doesn't open. Nothing happens. No error message. I am running Windows 7.

Log out of CC, then back in. Lightroom CC with work. It's dumb.

weird ... try this: go into finder preferences and select "show all file extensions". see if your download filer has a .app extension and if so, remove it so it just says "Downloads". maybe that helps

How download cs5 Camera raw update and how make Photoshop the default in the Bridge "open" menu?

Two problems which have defeated me.
First, I have a new Canon EOS 500D and need to download the recent (July 2010) CS5 Camera Raw update. However both of my computers freeze when I move from the Adobe Support web page to the Download web page. Is this a known problem? What to do about it? I am using CS 5 on a Windows 2007 XP computer.
Second, (probably related to the first) opening a file in Photoshop is not listed among Bridge's "OPEN AS" options. Also, the "OPEN" Default is "PAINT". How do I set Photoshop as the "OPEN" menu default?

Sounds like something is really wrong with your computer, and it isn't clear what, but if you're just having issues getting to the download link for ACR:

If those links don't work, you can probably find the same updates on the FTP site, although some things here are more than a decade old:

See if Bridge and ACR are any happier after installing these two updates. Make sure you run them as Administrator.
If those still don't work for you, try another browser, where Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Google Chrome should all work.

There are numerous other browsers, as well, but they probably won't work if the above three don't.
Perhaps you either have a virus that you should scan for, or over-zealous internet-protection software that you could try disabling temporarily.
My favorite free virus/malware scanner is from www.MalwareBytes.com
The payfor version will automatically update itself and scan, but the free version works just as well except you have to manually update and scan.

I can't download Shockwave, it hangs up at step 2 and download window doesn't open...

I have been having trouble with You Tube videos not functioning, so decided to upgrade my Flash and Shockwave players. I use Firefox on Windows 7. Flash loaded up fine as a upgrade, but Shockwave for Director kept hanging up. I did an uninstall and came back to Adobe to reinstall, but get hung up at step 2 and the download window never opens. Don't know what to do at this point. I have a You Tube account I can't manage now, so must find a solution. Help!

LaunchPad: Public Folder doesn't open

I am using BO 4.0 SP6. When I try to open the public folder, it doesn't expand - just the waiting symbol is shown. I know it's a language issue, when I add english to the languages in my browser settings, it works. But that's just a workaround. How can I configure my BI platform that everything works independently of my browser settings?

What I understand is that you have same setup of BI Servers where in one server you will have to set English lanugage in the browser locale otherwise it wont allow you to expand public folders however in your other server which is the SAME setup you dont face this issue.
Do you see these two behaviors from the same browser, machine?
Which browser do you use and the version?
Have you tried different browsers?
Please try following steps let us know the results, launch BI Launchpad of working WAS and in the system name define CMS name of non working server and its credentials and view the folders?

Downloads box doesn't open when I download something.

A few weeks ago I noticed that when I downloaded a file, it no longer asked me whether to open or save the file, nor did it automaticly open. For example, when I previously downloaded a torrent file, it would ask me to save or open, and then it would open the associated program automaticly when it finished downloading, and a little box would pop up saying file download finished (or something). Now, when I download a file, it appears like nothing happens at all. when I go to tools/downloads and open the download box, the file is there, downloaded, and I have to double click it to get it to start. It is obviously downloading, but that's where it stops.

Video Download Helper doesn't open downloads in iTunes.

The files that are downloaded with the video download helper add-on are mpeg. I wanted them to be mp4 files. When I try to open the downloaded files with iTunes, nothing happens. They will only open with Quick Time.
