Download from canon mvx150i

I'm a real beginner so apologies for taking you back to 1st gear.
I have just purchased a mac and I would like to download my tape based camcorder (canon mvx150i) onto imovies. I went out and bought the 400 firewire cable but nothing happens when I connect the camcorder up to it.
Would it be a faulty cable?
Do I need to download a driver for the camcorder?
If anyone has any ideas or can send me the link to the driver (if that's the way forward) I would greatly appreciate it.
I thought it would be as simple as connecting a camera...
Many thanks.

Hi Ian
Thanks for your post...I was turning it on and turning to the play mode but nothing was happening.
I recharged the battery overnight and did the same thing and it came up automatically how I expected it would.
All sorted.
Many thanks for taking the time to post your reply.
Regards, Tim

Can also hear audio on earlier files downloaded from the same camera to iMovie '11. How do I avoid this problemand recover lthe ost audio?

The first thing to try is to run Software Update (the Update tab in the Mac App Store.). This was an issue a couple of releases ago, and an update seemed to fix it.
If you are already at the most recent version of iMovie, then I don't know how to solve you issue. Maybe someone else will have some ideas.

  • IPhoto 6.0.5 failure to download from Canon Rebet XT

I have not had any trouble prior to the latest upgrade. Since then, iPhoto will recognize the Canon and the number of photos to download. But it will not download. I called Canon tech spt who said I was the 3rd call they had received on the subject. They took me thru Image Capture which downloaded the photos which then had to be copied into iPhoto.
    Is Apple working this problem?

    1. Your problems bagan in July? Did you manage to
actually update to 6.0.5? Your problem dates from
    before 6.0.5
    2. That's a Kernal Panic you're having. Do you get
them at other times, or only on launching iPhoto?
    3. KP's are often Hardware related. What peripherals
have you connected to the machine? Including Cameras?
Did you install or change any hardware round about
    July? New RAM?

    1. Problems with Canon began in July when I got it.
    2. No, I tried again to download the iPhoto 6.0.5 update. It says it successfully downloaded, but fails to launch.
    3. I read Old Toad's reply Aug. 11 to Harmon Tison's "cannot open iphoto now" Aug 10 message, to rebuild my iphoto library. It rebuilt, but can't get to the next step. My isync keeps popping up saying "null error, no space left on device?" Why?
    4. Only camera's are connected. Bought an additional external Maxtor hard drive, bc I wqas running out of storage with all my Canon large memory photos. I have not had any problems with that & it is nt connected.
    5. Just tried to download from my Pentax camera (which I never have problems with) and it will not let me.

  • How to download from Canon HF20 to FCE

I was having so much trouble downloading from my camera to FCE using MiniDV tapes that I bought the Canon Vixia HF20 thinking that flash would transfer better. Can someone tell me what settings I would use to do this. I still have time to return the camera if it does not work with FCE 4.
    Thanks in advance.
    Jon

Getting there but not quite there yet. I found the gear in Log an Transfer and changed the setting.
I found the frame rate setting on the camera and was able to set it at 30fps. I am hoping that is close enough to the one you mentioned (29.97).
I am wondering about the frame size. Can you tell me the relative benefit of choosing one over the other?
And I don't see the setting for Audio on the camera. I can get into the audio recording level but it does not display the setting. I can just move the slider up or down.
I really appreciate all the help!

  • IPOD Camera Connector download from Canon EOS 20D

Having problems tranferring from Canon EOS 20D. Although Apple say it is compatable all I get is Unsupported device. Any Idea's...

    No worries Paul & Sam,
Unplug everthing, soft reset your iPod, connect the camera connector to your card reader and put your card in the reader before you plug it in the iPod, then connect it, let the iPod find everything and then import photo's if this doesn't work try this below:
The Belkin Reader i've got has this model number. F5U249ea if you've got the same one, it's powered off the iPod, the 60gb model should be no different. Have you got the latest iPod update installed. If you have all i can say make sure everything on your iPod is still on your computer, completely restore your iPod with the latest iPod update, then connect everything together again, if this still does'nt work, i'm not sure what you can do? i'll try and find some more info for you but try everything i've said first and i'm sure you'll get everything to work fine.
Let me know how you get on, i'll try and figure out what happened

  • Lightroom 3 won't recognize RAW downloads from canon 6D

    HELP!
I just purchased a canon 6D, and took some RAW test shots. I wanted to see what they looked like on the monitor, tried to download them, but it doesn't recognize the file. I think the version of lightroom I have isn't "new" enough to manage those files...I have lightroom 3...what do I do?
    Thanks!

Yes, that's right, Lightroom 3 will not recognize the RAW from a CAnon 6D.
You can either purchase Lightroom 6 from Adobe, or use the free Adobe DNG Converter (I'm not sure what the latest version is but I know Version 8.8 had previously been released and will work) to convert the RAW to DNG and then import them into Lightroom 3

  • Download from Canon Vixia HFS100

I just installed Final Cut Express 4 on my new Macbook Pro 17 inch and for some reason I'm not able to get the clips off of my Canon Vixia HFS100 camcorder. I try log and transfer and when I do I'm able to put them in the queue but it says there is no data.
I'm able to import with iMovie 09 so I have connectivity but I would like to use Final Cut.
    Any ideas would be helpful!

    Hi there,
The FCE 4.0.1 update added support for 1920x1080 HD video. If this is the format you're shooting in, make sure you are updated to the newest version.
Make sure your Easy Setup is set to match the footage you are trying to ingest. Open up the Log and Transfer window, click the gear icon in the upper right, and go to Preferences. Make sure you have your audio set to "Plain Stereo" and click the button to "Clear the Cache."
Now try ingesting your footage again. Does it work?

  • Does "RAW files from Canon digital cameras cannot be downloaded" MATTER??

Need to buy new camera to use with my G5 and iPHoto 5. I desire (1) affordability, (2) more optical zoom than what I've had in past (want to move from 4x to 6x), and (3) compatible with my G5.
I've had 2 canon powershost (my last, the 570, but a kid dropped it). Easy to use. So maybe simliar, or something nicer.
Been studying the Canon web site about their various cameras. For the above reasons I like thePowerShot SX100 IS, about $240. 6x optical zoom.
HOWEVER, in the MAC OSX compatibility section at Canon it has this quote:
    * Mac OS X 10.1 and newer come with Image Capture drivers that support most of Canon's digital cameras with USB interfaces. When a compatible camera is connected to a compatible Mac computer running OS X 10.1 and newer, the computer detects the camera and automatically launches Image Capture. This Apple program allows JPEG images in the camera to be downloaded to the Macintosh. NOTE: RAW files from Canon digital cameras cannot be downloaded in OS X via Image Capture. We suggest the use of File Viewer Utility or an external card reader. Also, movie files shot with PowerShot cameras cannot be downloaded in OS X via Image Capture or iPhoto. We suggest the use of ImageBrowser or an external card reader.
Additionally, Image Capture can access JPEG images directly from a CompactFlash card using an OS X-compatible card reader or using a PC Card Adapter in the PC Card slot of an Apple PowerBook.**
This line caught me confused: *RAW files from Canon digital cameras cannot be downloaded*
In the past, I just plugged in the Canon Camera, and iPhoto 5 opened, and I h appily downloaded the picts and off and away I was.
Will this still happen??? And if I'm not getting the "RAW" picts (whatever that is), but just the JPEGS I'm used to, am I not getting "all" the picts, or the best that my camera could be given me for eventually printing?
    Am I worrying about nothing?
Finally, any camera suggestions? Under $300 , super picts, 5-10x zoom, and friendly with my Mac
    Thanks
    JON

You know, because you ask the question, I'll guess that it won't really matter to you...
Every camera shoots RAW - that's the total information that the sensor on the camera sees, but mid- and lower end cameras process this RAW data into an easy to use format such as jpegs.
Many (but not all) Pros demand that the camera provide all the data to the computer, so that the photographer can process the images him/her self. For most casual and family users this is not an issue. For the serious hobbyist and the Pro it might well be.
For more on Raw have a look at this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rawimageformat
Btw, later versions of iPhoto do work with Some Raw formats.
    As to cameras:
I used a Canon S2 IS for a couple of years and found it really good. There's and S3 and an S5 now too. Currently I'm using a Panasonic FZ8. I really like it.
