trying to upload from ipod to new computer and my work id comes up instead of home id have never taken ipod to work so why is this happening and how do i correct it

Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you? If so, does iTunes launch properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Downloading from IPOD to new PC

My old computer crashed and it was running XP. New PC is running Vista. Can not figure out how to get the music off of my IPOD Classic to download to my new PC, has anyone done this, and how is it done. Thanks

First of all, please ignore the post by calosx who is a well know spammer of these forums.
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
    SharePod is also freeware.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • MacBook drive crashed,  Cannot download from iPod

    Hi,
My MacBook drive crashed. When I try to connect my iPod to the MacBook with the new drive it won't work. iTunes tells me that the iPod is registered to another computer. You can only register the iPod to one computer at a time? It will not let me download from the iPod to the MacBook. If I want to register the iPod to the new drive it is going to wipe out al the information currently on the iPod. There has got to be a better way. Please Help.

Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti (which has already been referenced in the link above) but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
    Senuti Mac Only
    PodView Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
iPodDisk PPC Mac Only (experimental version available for Intel Macs)
TuneAid Mac only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac & Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac & Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • My itunes would not play purchsed songs after downloading from Ipod

Recently, I had to download all my songs from Ipod and start all over again. I got my Liblary back, but Itunes would not play previously purchased songs. How Cal I authorise my computer. I follow the steps to authorise, but stil would not play after even down loading the new versions of Itunes. Help!

I had a similar thing happen to me, I recovered my purchased songs from my Ipod some played but some didn't. I would say the ones you can not play even after authorizing them are currupt. Just click this link http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/musicstore/lostmusic/ at the bottom of the page under the heading "Email Support" Fill out the basic info and tell them you have lost your bought music. they should email you back telling you they have set up a download quere and how to redownload your songs without having to pay for them again. Just keep in mind it may take them up to 3 days to reply to you

    help.
my lap top has crashed. i have no back up for my library other than them being on my ipod nano 4th.

1). Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. • How to download from iPod an external drive to my computer.

I would like to download albums from my iPod back to my computer. I deleted a number of albums from my computer by error. They are in the iPod. Can I do this?

drag the "iPhoto Library" to the external drive - by default your iPhoto library is in the pictures folder  --  the only thing you do with the iPhoto application is to "depress the option key and launch iPhoto then use the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive "

No, unless its time machine, anything do on your Mac is not mirrored in your external HD.
yes, after copied, it will be on your computer to do with as you like.

  • Lost Address Book -- can I download from ipod?

I lost the entire contents of my Address Book, but have all the contacts on my ipod. Can I download the contacts from my ipod and import them back into my address book? One thing -- I currently have my computer set to automatically update my ipod, so I'm afraid as soon as I plug it in it will "update" my ipod with zero contacts. If I switch my ipod to disk use manually and then plug it in to my macbook, will that prevent this from happening? I checked the Library folder and there isn't even an Address Book folder in there at all. Help me!

I am not sure what you were doing when your AB data was lost. But you can check in Library/Application Support/AddressBook if there is a file called AddressBook.data.previous and if it is dated before you lost the data.
Then in the Address Book Application under the File menu there is a choice to Revert To Address Book Back Up. Might be worth a shot.
    Good luck!

  • Songs downloaded from itunes not playing on ipod

Hi, maybe someone can help me. Recently I noticed that the songs I have downloaded from itunes are not playing on my ipod. They are working fine on my computer. As far as I know all my software is up to date and I even tried backing up my files and restoring my ipod, and the songs from itunes are still not playing. Is there something else I can do?

Have you had a chance to look at these troubleshooting pages? They may be of some help:

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
So far as I am aware, books haven't been available for 6 years, so I'm wondering if you mean audiobooks.
Audiobooks are not currently part of the content that can be re-downloaded.
