Download iChat and Mail?

iChat and Mail failed. I think that I need to reinstall them, but couldn't find them Apple.com.
Should I reinstall the entire OS?
Unfortunately, due to hardware upgrade, the original DVD cannot be used. It ok to buy new one, but Snow Leopard is around the corner....

Hi GoodmorningNightmare;
You are going to have to tell us what kind of a hardware upgrade on a MBP can invalidate the original DVD before we will be able to help you.

Restart the machine in Safe Mode and attempt to open each app. Also please explain exactly how you are attempting to open the apps. For example, "When I click the Safari icon on the Dock it bounces but does not open." To start in Safe Mode hold down the Shift key when you hear the startup tone unitl a progress bar appears.

  • Why dont my Ichat and Mail work correctly

    Hello
I recently have been problems with my Ichat version 1.01 and my mac mail client.
What happens is when I restart my computer my Ichat and my Mail dont work.
First the Mail I can recieve mail fine but I can not send mail everytime i hit compose i get the spinning beach ball also i can not access the menu options even before i hit compose i get the beach ball.
on Ichat when i log in it takes a while then i get a messege
    saying
    Uncaught exception:
    NSPort Timeout Exception
[NSPortCoder send Before Time : send Reply Port:]
    timed out
    I also get this messege
    (null) is disabled
you must enable the service to diplay list
and give you option to enable or quit
    enable does nothing
i also cant access the menu bar
Now heres the weird thing after working on my computer for a few or more hours all theses symtoms go away till i next reboot my computer
I have tried everything to fix this problem on my own i ran Nortons anti virus , norton utilities and diskwarrior none have seem to do anything to help the problem
sometimes when i run the Norton Utilities it quits before it finishes the search say something unkown has caused to to cancel.
So i am a bit confused on all these problems and they seem to come out of no where so if you could help I would great apprieciate it.
    Jake

The glaring problem to resolve first is this.
sometimes when i run the Norton Utilities it quits before it finishes
the search say something unkown has caused to to cancel.
Unless there is a hard drive directory problem that Disk First Aid repair cannot successfully repair you don't need Disk Warrior but since you have it, you shouldn't let Norton Utilities anywhere near your hard drive but you should do so regardless.
Three years ago or maybe longer, Symantec announced they will no longer be supporting Norton Utilities with OS X which means no new updates or versions. Norton Utilities has been known to cause more problems than it resolves with OS X which Symantec could never get right so there are good reasons Symantec made this decision.
The first thing I would do if Norton Utilities is installed on your hard drive is to use the Norton uninstall utility to remove it completely from the hard drive. Check Symantec's website for an updated uninstall utility you can download since the uninstall utility included on your install disc is out of date and don't use it again especially since you have Disk Warrior which is highly regarded and recommended for OS X. The Norton Utilities install disc makes a nice coaster.
Regarding the Mail.app problem, try the following:
Quit the Mail.app first and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail. Copy the Mail folder and place the copy on the Desktop for backup purposes.
Using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist. Move the com.apple.mail.plist file to the Desktop.
Note: Moving the com.apple.mail.plist file out of the Preferences folder will require re-entering all email account information when re-launching Mail.
The only exception to this is if you have a .Mac account and/or if you created an email account as part of the original computer setup assistant when first turning on the Mac when new which may be recreated automatically. If so and you no longer access any account recreated automatically, you can delete the account from within Mail.
Launch Mail and decline any prompt to import mailboxes. After re-entering all email account information the same as before, the Mail.app should rediscover the existing account named folders and mailbox files at Home > Library > Mail.
After confirming all mailboxes were successfully rediscovered, you can delete the copy of the Mail folder and old com.apple.mail.plist file from the Desktop.
Test if this resolves the problem.

  • Serious dial-up issues with iChat and Mail

I've got three Macs on a network: G4 Mac Mini, G4 PowerBook, and a MacBook Pro all upgraded to Leopard. I live in a rural setting and am stuck with dial-up for the moment. My usual set-up with Tiger was to connect the Mini via dial-up via the Juno service. This is set to share the connection via Ethernet to Airport Express. Typically there is only one user at a time accessing either the MacBook Pro or the g4 Powerbook via the wireless share. In Tiger this worked perfectly. iChatting, web, and email all worked flawlessly. Every now and then a large download in Mail or Safari might time out but only large downloads 4mb or larger and rarely.
Since upgrading to Leopard none of the Macs can send an email with lots of content... say somewhere around 70 kb or more. Inline text or an attachment, does not matter... it will time out. This happens whether directly connected via the phone or via the wireless share to the Mini. iChat is also nearly useless with time out errors between each bubble of text sent as well as frequent disconnects. Adium also has problems with basic text chat. I've tried connecting the PowerBook via Juno directly to bypass possible problems with the Mini and it is experiencing the exact same problems when connected. Web browsing is perfectly fine as are ftp transfers. The problem seems to be limited to AIM (regardless of client) and email.
    Thoughts?

I seem to have solved my various internet related problems and the source problem is the software provided by my dial-up isp, JUNO. The solution was to connect directly via OS X network preferences using PPP. In the past I've always used the JUNO software to connect. Earlier today it occurred to me that I have never even tired to bypass the JUNO software. Since logging on via Leopard's built in PPP I've not had any iChat errors and am also now able to send larger emails via smtp. So, perhaps in my case the culprit was an incompatibility between Leopard and the JUNO software.

  • ICal, iChat and Mail All Crashing After 10.6.1 Update

I just thought I'd people a heads up here. While it could be isolated, on my 2.8 MBP 15" Unibody, while 10.6.0 had been working well, now under 10.6.1 Mail, iCal and iChat all hang on application launch. All three crash reports show:
    Exception Type: EXCBADACCESS (SIGSEGV)
    Exception Codes: 0x000000000000000d, 0x0000000000000000
Crashed Thread: 0 Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread
Each of these are the 64-bit apps. I'm looking for a solution, but if anyone is aware of what's going on here, I'd love to know!

same issue for me. i've talked about this alot in other threads
I get the same type of exception type : EXCBADACCESS (SIGSERGV)
But for me the exception code says KERNINVALIDADDRESS
anyway, 10.6.1 does nothing to fix this.

  • IChat and msn

Is apple ever going to come out with a version of iChat(and mail) that is compatible with hotmail and msn messenger?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I am not a product manager in Apple nor in MS, so I can't tell them which protocols to implement nevertheless they wont listen to me (alone). Honestly I don't even mind whether they should implement it in iChat or in another software, but the fact are that:
    1) Most web camera's (90% or 99%) are not supporting Mac.
    2) Skype has video support for windows but not for Mac.
    3) MSN on Mac has no video support.
    4) And even Apple, don't take care of us by giving us something that does work cross platform.
So at the end of the day whether this is XMPP/Jabber or any other protocol, Mac users are getting nothing useful to use for proper video chats.
BTW according to latest market researches MSN is leading with over 60% worldwide market share, 70-90% in Europe, Latin America and Asia, and neck to neck with AOL in the US.
Hey guess what..(?) 99.9999% of the users around
    the
    world use Windows.
    It's probably closer to 90% (~3% Mac, ~5% Linux,
    leaving about 2% other).
Why not give the 0.00001% of us
loyal to Mac a proper way to connect to our
    families
and friends, who use MSN for video chats???
I suspect it's because Apple is a US company. In the
US AIM rules, in Europe it's MSN. In Asia i've heard
that ICQ is still popular (but ICQ and AIM use the
    same protocol now anyway).
Frankly i don't want Apple to add MSN capabilities to
iChat, and i'd rather they depreciate the AIM
capabilities in favour of more work on XMPP/Jabber.
If you want interconnectivity i suggest you email
Microsoft (,AOL and Yahoo) and ask them why they
aren't supporting the IETF standard for IM, which is
    XMPP.

I just downloaded the OS X Lion mountain and Mail won't open.  I get an error message everytime I try to open the app.How can I fix that?

I-Photo won't open even though I have upgraded to OS X Yosemite and downloaded the I-Photo upgrader.
But have you run the the iPhoto Library upgrader? It is installed in Applications > Utilities. Launch it and direct it to your iPhoto library.
Which version of iPhoto did you upgrade from?
The upgrader is only necessary, if you have been  running iPhoto7.1.2 or earlier.

Thx Eric.  You've helped!  When I tried to copy the words written in my e-mail to show you what I meant, I right clicked to copy, and saw an option to open the attachment, which it did!  So I'm sorted thank you.  Editable means a form which you can fill in and send back.  Thanks again.  Stephen

I downloaded Lion and now 3 of my mail addresses are offline and I cannot access or send messages.  Any ideas?

If it's because you were using Office 2004, the eight year old version of Office that was written when Intel processors were not used in Macs, then there will be no fix. Lion dropped support for PowerPC applications, as has been widely reported since Lion's release last August.
You can upgrade Office 2004 to Office 2008 or Office 2011. You can use iWorks 2009 that can open Microsoft files. You can use a number of free applications that are also capable of working with Microsoft documents. You can go back to Snow Leopard, if you have a backup. Or, if you have an external drive or room to add a partition to your current drive, you can install Snow Leopard on it.
Search these forums for more information. If this is your issue, it's been posted and answered several times a day since August 2011.

Since updating to ios7 i can no longer partially download emails and this is using up all my data plan. How can I make Mail only be partially downloaded again?

YEA!  My jurryrig worked!  To all with this problem:
You CAN have podcasts in a regular playlist IF you convert them to a standard MP3 first.  So, yes, a lot of manual labor
The good news: if, like me, it is a track that you listen to frequently (in my case meditations for sleep and relaxation) then the time is worth it.  I will mess with automator later to see if there is anyway to script this!  Then, less work for me and more for my mac.
    Here are the steps:
Select the file from your Podcast folder.
Change all data you need -- "artist," "album" etc...
Make a copy of the cover art for this file by dragging it to the desktop.
Select the Advanced -> Convert ID3 Tags menu item.
Check ID3 tag version, and select "v1.0" from the drop-down menu.
Drag the file to the desktop (this will make a copy of the MP3 on the desktop)
Delete the file from the iTunes list.
Drag the copy of the file you have on the Desktop back into iTunes.
Search for the file in the Library, and add the cover art again to the file.
Now the file is out of the Podcasts folder and works like a regular MP3 file inside iTunes. You can re-add it back to playlists!

How do I get a Mobile Me e-mail address for iChat and messagingl on Mac OS 10.4

MobileMe has been replaced by iCloud: unfortunately you can't access any of iCloud's facility on Tiger (except to access email, but you would have to have set the iCloud account up on another, compliant, device first - you can't open an iCloud account on Tiger).
