Download icons over-write others on desktop
When I download, or use any other program to save to the desktop, the created file icon sits on top of the one in the lower right of the desktop. They continue to stack up there unless I move 'em out or Rearrange. Is this a known bug or is something set up wrong. Doesn't happen on my Mac Mini running the same OSX on a Cinema Display. How do I fix this?

I have worked around this problem by setting the view to Always by Name. It is not an ideal solution.

Stop Icon over bars on my desktop for router
I have a circle with a line thru it over the bars icon on my task bar. The network is working fine but I still have this icon over the bars. Why is it there and how do I get rid of it?
The Icon (LELA) is showing that you are connected by a cable between your computer and your router. If you were connected wirelessly, the red circle would disappear.

When installing itunes of my PC with Windows Vista, the itunes program "took over" all of my desktop icons. How can I install it so it doesn't do that? Thanks!
You can force Vista to rebuild the desktop icons by changing your monitor's color depth momentarily. In the display properties, change to 16-bit color. Then change back to 32-bit.

I downloaded Firefox 4 a while ago. I followed the instructions and tried to get rid of the Icon on my desktop and the disk. Whenever I try to do so I get a message stating that the disk "Firefox" couldn't be ejected because Firefox is using it and that I have to quit the application and try to eject the disk again. But whenever I try to open Firefox I get the download Icon (the one with the fox and the arrow) and the disk back in my desktop. Can I ever get rid of them?
Did you drag the the Firefox program from the disk image (DMG) to the application folder on your hard drive ?

I uploaded my old songs on my computer then I tried to sync them in my iphone's music library and I can't listen to the previously purchased songs... They either appear red with the cloud icon or greyed out... And I get the following message when I tap on them: additional fees may apply when downloading songs over cellular
Anyone can help?Un-sync all your music to remove it from the device, then restart (hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until you see the apple, then let go). Now re-sync your music.

Recently I have been experiencing my downloaded videos and online vids taking a long time to load and when they do, they will only play for a few seconds at best and you have to hit the play icon over and over. Never had this problem before with the 20 plus vids I have any suggestions would be appreciated
I finally resolved my problem after spending way too much time on it. I simply handed my 160GB iPod to my husband to put his fav Stones & Beatles songs on and I went back to my 80GB Microsoft Zune which has never disappointed me.
After spending so much time trying to figure this out I did finally take it back to Apple Store who performed a diagnostic and found there was a problem with the device. They replaced it with a refurbished one which has similar issues. All I wanted to do was listen to my music. Was that too much to ask? So I am happy to be free of this problematic device. No more Apple for me!! -
Everything seems to go as planned according to the steps on the screen except for the last one dragging the icon over the file folder.
Download the new version you want with other browsers like IE (Windows), Safari (Mac) and remove the last version. Then install the package you downloaded.
Here you can download version 6.0: [http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html Download]
Also for older versions: [ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/ Here]. -
Since downloading the most current iTunes software I am no longer able to print an insert (label) for a jewel case. I click on print, choose jewel case and then it doesn't matter which option I choose for the insert it will only print the songs over each other in a 1 inch section so that it can not be used or read. If instead of clicking on the jewel case I click on list it works fine and prints an appropriate list. I have always updated the iTunes software the first time I am offered to do so and I have never had a problem printing the jewel case inserts. Since this issue is not about a piece of hardware iTunes help will not help me.
Did you ever get a response?
If you so how did you correct the problem?
I have the exact problem you had.
Please let me know.
Thank you

Disk icons or any other icons don't show on desktop.
After a power failure, disk icons or any other icons don't appear on desktop, and desktop doesn't respond to mouse clicks?
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the crashed process (Finder.) The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report — they're very long and not helpful. -
Cannot download file over https behind firewall ?

}This program works fine for downloading files, over both http and https from my home. When I run this on my desktop in the office it can download files over http, but cannot download https files.
When I try to download files over https, I get the foll. exception:
java.net.UnknownHostException: www.site.com
at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.connect(PlainSocketImpl.java:153)
at java.net.Socket.connect(Socket.java:452)
at com.sun.net.ssl.internal.ssl.SSLSocketImpl.connect(DashoA12275)

at com.sun.net.ssl.internal.ssl.SSLSocketFactoryImpl.createSocket(DashoA12275)
at sun.net.www.protocol.https.HttpsClient.doConnect(DashoA12275)
There are 2 differences here, one being that my office desktop sits behind a firewall and there is a proxy in between.
In the office I run the program as :
java -Dhttp.proxyHost -Dhttp.proxyPort TestServlet URL [filename]
eg.:
java -Dhttp.proxyHost=235.67.138.84 -Dhttp.proxyPort=8080 TestServlet https://site.com/portal/Downloads/file.csv file.csv
This url requires authentication, the userid and pwd are hardcoded in the code.
Now, my problem is I cannot understand why this error would come. Is it because of the firewall or because of the proxy ?
Why is it that I can download over http successfully from my office desktop? If the problem is with the firewall or proxy, then even http protocol urls should give the same problem.
Please help.

When I log ion to my computer and the desktop shows up all of my icons that were on my desktop are no longer there. Then a virus message pops up and asks me if I would like to buy some antivirus software and then a error report shows up and it ask me if I would like to send the error report out and then it gives me the option if I do not want to send it out.

After doing the above, you may want to use other scanners to thoroughly scan your system for malware:

Install, update and run these programs <u>in this order</u>. They are all free for personal use, but some have limited functionality in the "free mode", but those are features you really don't need to find and remove the problem that you have. I accidentally dragged the Lion download from the dock onto my desktop and it disappeared in a puff. This seems to have halted the download as it is now 8 hours since purchase and has stuck at 1.75gigs. Could anyone advise please?
The icon in the dock is NOT the file itself. You simply removed the dock icon. Go into your Applications folder and you'll find "Install Mac OSX..." and you have what you want.
