I would likw to move some of my photos from my iMac to my iPad. How do I do this?

Download jpeg photos to iPad from a flash memory card

I exported JPG photos using Iphoto to a usb flash memory card in a DCIM folder. I want a friend to download these photos on his Ipad.
I can use the Finder to display any of these photos from the flash memory card. So they exported right.
But his Ipad 2 with the latest IOS version does not see any photos when the flash memory card is connected to it using the usb connector.
The memory card has been formatted in MS-DOS
When I connect the flah memory card back to my Imac, I see all photo files with the Finder.
Iphoto sees the flash memory card but does not see any photos it exported.
How can I solve this?

Sorry, I used the terms usb flash memory card, I should have used USB flash drive in my question.
I tested your suggested solution. I changed the name of the photo to: I45.jpg and the result is the same. I always get the message "NO PHOTO CAN BE IMPORTED".
Any other suggestion?

Connect the iPad and select it on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes, and on the right-hand side there should be a series of tabs, one of which should be Photos - if you select that you can select which photo folders to sync to the iPad. There is a bit more info on this page. You will need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad - not including photos in a subsequent sync is how you delete them from the iPad.

View iMac photos on iPad - How?

Is there any way to view photos residing on an iMac HD (not in iPhoto, but I could put them there, if necessary) using my iPad? (OSX10.9.5, iOS 8.1.3). I would be using a local wireless network. I don't want to edit the photos, just view them.

Thank you for your reply. As I don't currently use PhotoStream (though I could), I found another solution - an app called 'AirPhotoServer' It comes with a companion Mac app that sets up a local network photo server to view any/all photos in a users Photos folder - not just in iPhoto. It works well and has solved my problem. Thank you again for your reply - your method is one I will try if I ever start using PhotoStream. Thanks.

When I first bought my ipad and connected it to my PC ten years worth of photos were downloaded ont ipad. It is now full! Cannot delete them as they were not taken with the ipad. Can anyone tell me how to delete them? Apple Store been very unhelpful.

photos that were synced to the pad can only be deleted by re syncing. When you do the resync, on your computer running i tunes, select the photo tab, and uncheck anything you do not want put back on your pad.

So it appears you have only one library on the hard drive. Apply the two fixes below in order as needed to that library:
Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.

1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

I downloaded all into a new external hard drive because my internal hard drive was failing. then got internal hard drive replaced by Apple Store. Now when I try to sync IPAD or IPhone to IMAC, photos will not transfer. Why? What shall I do?

How did you import the photos to iPad and iPhone?
If the photos have been synced to the iPhone and iPad using iTunes, you cannot sync them back.

When your iPad is connected, select your iPad under devices in iTunes. There will be a photos tab, and you can either sync everything or choose certain events/albums etc

I've just found out the reason for this behaviour. I am syncing from a computer which is different to the one I first synced with. iTunes can't cope with this situation so deletes anything synced from another source.

As stevejobsfan said. But also if your profile is correct and you are running system 10.7 on your iMac, you will not have much portability between the two either. Think of them as 2 different programs that just happen to have the same name.
OS 10.9 Mavericks' version of Pages has greater compatibility with the app version of it. But there are a lot of consequences to moving to Mavericks which should not be done lightly. Read around a bit on it before making any decision to upgrade.

Photos are not downloaded from iTunes.
Import them from the iDevice to your computer as you would with any other digital camera and leave iTunes out of the equation.

Yes you can. In iPhoto create a Album with the photos you want in it. You can drag them from your Events folder. In iTunes with your iPad connected go to Photos by cliking on your iPad. You can then select the album or events you want.
