Download images with safari opens preview - how to disable it?

Every time after a image is downloaded, preview opens itself to show the image. It really annoys me, so how could I disable this? Many thanks!

Preview is the default app for downloaded images. Do you want another application to open the Image, or do you prefer it remains unopened? If the latter, go to Safari Preferences>General and uncheck "open safe files after downloading".
If you uncheck that selection, anything downloaded in Safari will not open automatically. You'll have to manually do it.
If you want another application to open the image, go to the location of your Safari downloads and single-click on an image file. Then Command and I keys to open the Info panel. Down the bottom, click on the "open with" drop down menu. Navigate to your application of choice. After you select it, select "change all" on the Info panel. Future image files will open with that application.

  • Opening Images With Safari

When I open an image on the desktop, it opens with Preview as the default. How can I switch to opening images with Safari as the default?

Safari is quicker and saves me keystrokes if I want to see the actual size of the image, and then go back to the "viewing" size. With Safari, all you have to do is click on the image to pull up the actual size, then click on it again to go back. Not so with Preview.

  • Can't Download Images with Right-Click on Mouse

I can't download images by right-clicking my mouse, like I do on my PC. For example, check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Dakota and look at the images of the flag, state seal and map near the top right corner of the page...
When I place my cursor over any of these images on either my PC or my MacBook Pro, my cursor changes to a hand, indicating that the images are hyperlinked. If I right-click on an image, I can choose a SAVE AS command on my PC, but nothing happens on my MacBook Pro.
If I left-click on a linked image, it simply zooms in, rather than taking me to another page. I'm using a small Kensington mouse.
This could be a Firefox problem. I think I recall downloading some sort of extension that allows you to zoom in on images, and I suspect it's more or less taken over. If so, I'll have to track down the name of the extension and try and zap it.
But I thought I'd check here first, just to see if other people have this same problem - or if you can suggest alternate strategies for downloading images.
    Thanks.

Well, I found a novel solution - it's called Safari.
I'll post on the Firefox forum to figure out why I
can't download images with it, but it seems to work
just fine with Apple's native browser. Thanks for all
    the tips.
I just tried it, but I am using firefox 2.0 beta and I had no problems. Not sure what's going on. Have you tried any other pages or pics besides this one, which I don't think it would matter just wondering.

  • I am trying to download lion with the thumb drive how do i back up my files is time machine good enough or must i transfer everything to my hard drive

I am trying to download lion with the thumb drive how do i back up my files is time machine good enough or must i transfer everything to my hard drive

A erase of the drive or boot partition is not always necessary.
Flashing question mark at boot could be a easy fix, sometimes it's the firmware that simply forgot what bootable volume to boot from.
Try holding the Option key down while booting the machine, a choice of bootable options appears, select your OS X and boot up.
When you get in, head to System Preferences > Startup disk and set it again new. This will tell the firmware what to boot from. Test it to see.
Now if you don't have a selection of bootable options, it could be that the drive is dead, or OS X is erased or corrupted so it can't boot.
You'll have to run through this list of fixes to see what's going on, if you need a hardware fix or what, I've also included links if you can't fix it and need to recover your data etc.
(If it's not remmebering your boot selection then also run through the list to reset things.)

  • Puzzled by changes in downloading images with Mountain Lion

Have recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion and am puzzled by apparent changes in downloading web pages and images. When I save a web page, it is saved automatically to the Documents folder whereas with Snow Leopard it woudl be saved to the Downloads folder. When I download images, they go straight to the Downloads folder without a dialogue box coming up on the screen giving me options where the image is saved. Some of the downloaded images end up in a 'Original Images' folder in the Downloads folder, some simply appear in the folder as usual. Also, within the Downloads folder, in list view, this 'Original Images' folder  and any other folder I create does not have the preceding arrow which when clicked allows the folder to open in a list of the sub-folders or files it contains.Where can I find information on this? Or is there something wrong with my version of ML?

I get the normal dialog box box when I choose Save As on a Safari page. How and where I want it saved.
This function is controlled by Finder, so I think step 1 would be to reset your Finder prefs.
Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library. Then go to Preferences folder and trash this file:
    com.apple.finder.plist
Then, restart, or log out and in again.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

  • Safari download problem with Safari but not with Internet Explorer.

When I drag photos from web-sites via Int.Explorer they end up on my desktop as little pictures. I can see what they are. When I do it with Safari they end up as pages with a turned corner & JPEG at the bottom. The only way to see what they are is to click them for Preview to open.
Why does Safari not do as Int.Explorer & is there any way of making it do so?

    Found the answer in Mac OS Help, topic "Changing the way icons look on the desktop";
Click the background, select View > Show View Options from the menu; check "Show icon preview" in the pop-up menu. Now try copying images from Safari to your desktop!

I want to download the image file stored in database with the DBMS_LOB package within the forms 6i application. The DBMS_LOB.READ can do this but the buffer limit is 32kB! The image file I want to download is with size over 10MB, so that I need to write a loop to read but how can I save and append the buffer content into a file of the local machine during the loop. Please advise, thanks.
    SK

I think you have to do it in chunks. and I think you have a function to do it.
Maybe the database forum is better for this question.

  • Thanks to Mandeep5062 Acrobat Pro download issue with Safari

Before your response arrived I shut down Safari, loaded Firefox, went directly to the Adobe download page and attempted a download. The download started correctly and then switched over to the Creative Cloud downloader and I thought, "Here we go again". However, the process completed and installed the Acrobat Pro software as advertised. This might be a work around others can use that are having issues with Safari.

Win 7 either comes with a virtural XP machine installed, or it's freelly availible.  I forget which, but this may be a simple solution to your issue.

  • System freezes with Safari open; what does this mean...?

    Hi:
Once in a while I have Safari open, and then my whole system freezes, even when I have Safari open in the background. The only thing I know for sure is that Safari is open when I get a system freeze.
In the system.log file I found the following warning:
'Sep 17 17:08:12 localhost /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari: * Warning: ATSUSetFontFallbacks has been deprecated. Use ATSUFontFallbacks objects instead. *'
Interestingly, I always see this line in the system.log as the last line before my system freezes. Any thoughts?
    Kind regards,
    Bas

    Hi Edwin:
Thank you for your reply. When my Powerbook is physically plugged with an ethernet cable, I will try that. However, at home I connect to the Internet wirelessly, through Airport.

  • Images from Safari opening in Quicktime

Hey I have a problem that just now started to occur (out of nowhere). It seems that now Quicktime wants to handle image links in Safari, but when I disabled them in its MIME settings, they now just download and open in Preview! How can I get them opening right in Safari again (without Quicktime doing it)? Thanks.

    Hi ,
In Safari preferences, General tab, Open "safe" files checked on? ( personally, I do not use this feature for security reasons) Security tab >Web Content items all enabled
Pop up Blocker if on may be is blocking some of the content you are trying to view on Safari.
    Good luck.

  • Currently have osx 10.6.8 with safari 5.6 How do I get safari 7

How do I get safari 7 on my Mac snow leopard. Can I just load Maverick to obtain safari 7 or do I have to go thru all other versions to get to Maverick

Try downloading Yosemite from the Mac App Store; if you downloaded the full Mavericks installer before Yosemite came out, you can use that instead. If it’s incompatible with your computer, you can’t.
You don’t need to upgrade through an intermediate Mac OS X version.

  • Flash player 14 download issues with Safari 7.0.6

I have been trying to download Adobe Flash Player Version 14 on Safari Version 7.0.6.
Everything goes fine till I finally get to the actual download. The download window opens
and sits at 0 per cent until I get the message that the download was unsuccessful.
I've tried all the help that's provided that talks about Mac. I have a Macbook circa 2010.
    Thanks,
    Don Melanson

Flash has nothing to do with your download speed nor wireless.  It's just a Internet plug-in (and preference pane).  You are using an old version. Flash's current "stable" version is 11.1.102.55 and beta 11.2.202.197.  You can get the stable version from Adobe by going through here.  You can get that or the beta by going through macupdate.com.
