Download legacy Java for PS CS3 Yosemite compatibility

When I try to load Photoshop CS3 Extended after installing latest version of Yosemite, I get an error message telling me to install a legacy version of Java to enable Photoshop. Clicking on the "more information" button brings me neither a link to download or further information. So,
√ How can I download the appropriate legacy Java so I can continue to use Photoshop which apparently is no longer upgradable?
√ If I do install the older version of Java, will that negatively impact my use of other applications? Will that uninstall my updated version of Java which I need for other App?
Will be grateful for any suggestions. Thanks in advance

This is the Java version CS3 is looking for: Apple's version.

Again, where is this Apple update?
There's a rumor that it's been posted, but I don't really believe that and can't confirm, so still checking.
Java 6u38 came out quite a while ago and Apple disregarded it because they are trying to force people onto Lion and Mtn Lion and dumps the responsibility for Java onto Oracle.
Yes, it came out in mid-December, but how did they disregard it? Linc Davis says it's in Developer Preview testing as we speak, but it's all minor bug fixes so what's the rush?
I can't argue that Apple wants to get out from under Java and has publically stated that for several years now. It's turned into a security nightmare, much the way Adobe Flash has, so I don't blame them at all for walking away. I still expect them to fulfill their agreement to continue support of Java 6 through end-of-life.

  • I get a message to install legacy JAVA SE 6, after installing Yosemite

After installing the OS X Yosemite I get the message: to open "CS5ServiceManager" you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime. A link to download legacy JAVA is provided but webpage is frozen. Any suggestions or links?

The person at Adobe was not very educated on the subject. Compared to newer verions of Java, yes, it's less secure. But the only real danger of Java (not JavaScript) is having Java enabled in a web browser. By default in Mavericks and Yosemite, Java is off.
If you install Java 8 from Oracle, it will automatically enable Java in your browser. You then need to go into the System Preferences Java control applet to turn it off.
The Java 6 runtime linked to above does not enable Java in your browser. It's there simply to support apps (like Adobe's) that need it to function. In that respect, it's perfectly safe. I have Java 6 and 8 both installed on my Mac. I need 6 for X-Rite's ColorPort app, and the newer one for Java apps I have to use to upload client images to get prints made. With Java disabled in the web browsers, it is, again, perfectly safe.

  • How do I find "Legacy JAVA SE 6" for my macbook?

I downloaded Minecraft for my daughter to play and it won't open, stating that I need to download "Legacy JAVA SE 6" before I can run the game. Please help me find what I need to get the game up and running. When I click the link provided in the app it takes me to a blank page :/

Utter nonsense. I've both installed on Mtn Lion. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5559 explains how to select the SE 6 plug-in. The  requisite 1.6.0 JDK resides in the /System/Library/Java/JVM folder. If you want to determine the installed Java 7 JRE, run this in the Terminal app:
    /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home/bin/java -version
This is what's on my machine:
    java version "1.7.0_21"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_21-b12)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.21-b01, mixed mode)
Whereas, for Java 6, the java -version command shows:
    java version "1.6.0_45"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_45-b06-451-10M4406)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.45-b01-451, mixed mode)
Java for OS X 2013-003 updates the Apple-provided system Java SE 6 to version 1.6.0_45 on Lion and ML volumes. Now, it might be that the OP will have to extract and install a previous SE 6 JRE from an applicable OS installer app.

  • Why do I need "legacy Java SE 6 runtime?"

I tried to open Photoshop CS 5.1 and was told I needed to download "legacy Java SE 6 runtime," whatever that is. I assume this is because I recently put Yosemite on my iMac. So where do I find this Java thingy, or would upgrading to the latest Photoshop solve the problem?

If that doesn't help, download an earlier version of Java. Java for OS X 2014-001 If the page does not display, go to your web browser's preferences (then security, then details) and delete the cookies for apple.com.

I have the same problem, 15.4 MacBook Pro unibody.
After the first error installing I checked software updates again and it's the only update listed as a available (the first go around I had 11 updates to install, Java was the only one to fail)
I never install more than one update at a time, esp. those requiring a reboot.
Think I'll not try again until there's some answers.
    Good idea. I am waiting.
Is it possible it's failing if I've manually disabled Java in Safari ? I disabled it after learning of the vunerability.
It's very possible. Wouldn't it be funny if this update fixed it?
I am still waiting for the attack.

It looks like that link is currently dead; even Google only shows one comment on that and it's on a discussionsjapan.apple.com web page, translated as "the file of the above page (JavaForOSX2014-001.dmg) are broken links" so the link must have been broken very recently.

In the details it is mentioned that it is an outdated version of Java.
Is this a security risk that i need to live with to get CS5 to run with Yosemite?
Also i need to reject messages from Java in the future about updates, or not?

My "Solar" accounts program won't run without "legacy Java SE6 runtime" since I upgraded my iMac desktop to OS x Yosemite but I can't download it, nothing happens when you click on the link to apple support

Okay, I'm not a Genius, but, I'm smarter than the one I spoke to at the Apple Store. They told me that they couldn't help me with Legacy Java SE6 Runtime. Adobe has the worst support in the industry so don't call them.
If you have a Time Machine backup, go to one that pre dates your install of Yosemite. Go to the System/Library/Java and drag copy the folder to your internal hard disk. Now you will need the Administrator password. Once copied, drag the old Java folder into your System/Library folder and when asked to replace, click OK. Restart your Mac and you will have use of your software that requires Legacy Java SE6 Runtime.
I'm totally done with Apple since they are trying to box me into a corner. Have fun kids.
