Download Lion Installer/recovery DVD

I want to creater installer DVD to recover my mac book. My macbook HDD got crashed.
Can I Download Lion Installer?? Anyone has any link for the same to create the recovery DVD?

Maybe maybe not. Some of the newer Macs use a special build of Lion or Mt Lion and the normal download of either of those 2 OSs will not work on those newer systems.
This system you recently bought is IT 4 months old or did you Buy it 4 months ago? And what is the Model Year of it?
If it is a Late 2011 model or newer you can use the Apple Online Internet Recovery system to Boot the computer from over the internet and then you can use Disk Utiltiy to partition the new drive  and then Reinstall the original version of OS X, Lion or Mt Lion, that came on it from the factory.
To access the Online Internet Recovery system at Starup Hold Down the Command+Option+r Keys Until you ksee a spinning globe in the center of the sceen. You Must Hold those key Down until you see the spinning globe in the center of the screen.

  • Is there any way for downloading LION without recovery tool? macbook air (mid 2011) ?

I recently bought a macbook air(mid 2011) and I am using ADSL internet services which needs couple of hours to complete downloading of LION. but when I come back to see what happened few hours after download started, I found myself in Lion Recovery startiting page !
seems that I am in a endless loop !!
In addition, Its not possible to download it from app store, since it shows that the application has beed installed already. is there any suggestion ?
I guess I should first download it using speed download and then install it !

Have you tried holding the Option key down and then clicking on "Purchases" in the App Store interface? If this works, then you'll see "Install" instead of "Installed" against Lion. Download Lion then -- it will go to your Applications folder -- and do not give your password for installation to execute. You should then have the full Lion installation package in your Applications folder. With "Show Package Contents", in "Shared Support" find InstallESD.dmg. If you burn that to a blank DVD you'll have a Lion Install disc. But since you have a MacBook Air, you could use a (not less than 8 GB capacity) pen drive to store the installation without having to do the full download every time.

  • Downloading Lion installation app with a computer already running Lion?

How do you download the OS X Lion installation app from the Mac App Store with a mac running Lion already? (It shipped with Lion)

You can't download Lion from the App Store for systems that shipped with Lion pre-installed. It wasn't purchased from the App Store. You have to boot to the Recovery HD (Command + R); then redownload and install from there.
If you want to avoid the redownload and install, follow the instructions at this site to capture the InstallESD.dmg file then 'restore' that to a bootable USB thumb drive. Then you can boot from the thumb drive and run the installer without having to redownload.

  • How to download lion installation files using windows

    Hi,
I installing a SSD into my new Macbook Pro and need to download Lion so I can do a clean install.
My problem is that I only have 1GB download limit at home so I would like to download at work. But work only has Windows based machines. Is there anyway to download it on a windows?
The nearest Apple store is 2 hours drive away, and I cannot connect my Mac into the work network.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

You didn't mention a redemption code.
You can download it, on a Mac. Do you know someone with a wireless network and a large download limit?
I would seriously be looking at updating your Internet Plan. A standard update of any OS (Not just the inital Lion download) will wipe out your allowance in one hit. If you want to keep your system up to date, you will find it almost impossible on 1GB of monthly download data. Even if you bought Snow Leopard and installed it, the updates would well outweigh your allowance.
    Cheers

  • Can't download Lion from Recovery Disc

So this all started when i wanted to upgrade to Mountain Lion. I went to the app store and purchased the app and the download started. It took about 45 minutes and when it finished and I tried to install it failed because it said the download was corrupt. I tried three times and had the same result each time. I started troubleshoot and found somewhere where it said to try fixing disc permissions. I went into disc utils and tried to run the verify disc and it failed. I then tried running verify disc and that failed. So then I logged into Recovery Disc and ran Verify disc and it failed again. So I tried running Fix Disc and that failed. At that point I was not able to boot up to anything other than Recovery Disc. If it tried booting up it would start and run for about 20 seconds and then shutdown. At this point I decided to reformat my disc and re-install Lion. I wiped my disc and then used the re-install lion link to start that process. It would tell me it was downloading nessecary components and would start counting down from 1:45 hr it would hit 0 and the counter would start over. It does this about 3 time and then fails saying in could not download the components. I have tried it twice and had the same result. I am now on a differnt computer hoping to get some advice around what to do now. Anyone have any ideas around what I should try next. I am kind of stuck and getting really frustrated. This is the second time I have had major disc related issues. I never had these issues on my windows laptops.

Well in all fairness thinks like this happen to both Windows and Mac OS X.
I suspect your drive is failing. That is why the verify and repair fails and that the original download got corrupted and why now it restarts because it really can't save anything to that drive.
You could Restart from recovery and restart the download point it to an external drive and see if it completes and installs Lion on the external. If it does then good bet the internal drive is TOAST and needs to be replaced.

  • Download lion installer for 2011 mini?

Is there any way to download (and save) the lion instller for a new 2011 mac mini that came with Lion Server pre-installed? I tried using the copy of Lion 10.7.1 that I had already downlaoded from the App store, but it said I could not install it on this machine. I can boot off the recovery partition and re-install it, of course, but then I have to wait for a five- plus hour download to complete every time I want to re-install. Since I am currently using this machine for testing, trying to figure out what will or won't work, I may potentially want to do a clean re-install several more times before I am happy with it. Having to wait for a huge download each time isn't acceptable.
Or was the problem just that I was already running 10.7? Perhaps if I made a boot disk from the installer, it would work?

The only way that I know to do this is to create a netrestore on your server with the mini connected to it (I think it has to be in target disk mode). You will of course neet to enable the Netboot service in Server Admin, then use the wizard from there to create the restore entry. This should only take about an hour or so, I think, and the upside is that you will have it for future use if you need to re-install on the 5,1 mini again. I was in the same boat and was forced to bite the bullet and download using the restore partition on the mini, since I had already erased the main hard drive (I was doing a clean install).
That reminds me: now that I have everything up and running, I should do the same.
    Hope this helps.

  • Hello, I am trying to reinstall os x lion in my macbook pro mid 2012, from my recovery disc, and its imposible because every time I have problems to download de installer or something that is required to do that. what can I do?

hello, I am trying to reinstall os x lion in my macbook pro mid 2012, from my recovery disc, and its imposible because every time I have problems to download de installer or something that is required to do that. what can I do?

When you do get it downloaded, before you do anything else, save the Lion installer - make a copy and put it somewhere safe. you can then reuse, make a clean install and other things.

Yes I strongly recommend making a clone you can boot from in addition to use TimeMachine.

  • Mountain Lion Recovery DVD - How can I make one, ML was installed on my iMac and BBP

Mountain Lion Recovery DVD - How can I make one, ML was installed on my iMac and MBP when I purchased them. When I look at the App Store, it dose not show ML as purchased (to download again) - do I have to purchase it again to make a Recovery DVD?
    Thanks for your help.
    Regards
    NGI

do i have to purchase it again to make a Recovery DVD?
No. You can still make a bootable recovery DVD, but you will not be able to make a full bootable copy of ML without purchase.
    1) Enable the debug menu for Disk Utility via Terminal Application. Navigate to terminal by typing "terminal" in   spotlight. Copy the bolded text below and enter it into the command prompt:
defaults write com.apple.DiskUtility DUDebugMenuEnabled -bool true ; open -a "Disk Utility" ; exit
    2) From the Debug Menu > Select Show every Partition > Recovery HD should appear
    3) Right click (control + click) the Recovery HD partition and select "Mount"
    4) Right click again the partition again > "Reveal Recovery HD in Finder". Leave this window open
    5) At this point, you will need open terminal again and enter the following command:
    sudo chflags nohidden /Volumes/Recovery\ HD/com.apple.recovery.boot/BaseSystem.dmg ; exit
         Type your password when prompted.
    6) Navigate back to the Recovery HD finder Window > com.apple.recovery.boot > BaseSystem.dmg
    7) Drag "BaseSystem.dmg" into Disk Utility's sidebar.
    8) Insert your DVD
    9) Select "BaseSystem.dmg" in the sidebar and hit "Burn"
Once the burn is completed, hold option down at startup and select the DVD to boot. This is a bootable Recovery partition, not a bootable copy of ML.
Note: to disable the debug menu,
defaults write com.apple.DiskUtility DUDebugMenuEnabled -bool false

  • I need to re-install Lion, where do I re-download the Lion installer?

I had a HD issue (my MacBook Pro, Model A1211 would not boot) and I did not have a Lion Recovery Disk, so I had to erase the HD and load Snow Leopard. Now where do I find the Lion installer and download it?

How to download purchased installation image of OS X Mountain Lion for clean boot installation.

When, and if, you can get Mountain Lioin to download, it will automatically try to install itself. If you want to create a bootable installation disk (disc), quit the installer. You'll have a file in your Applications folder a file named "Install OS X Mountain Lion.app". Get yourself either a 8GB+ USB flash drive or use a dual-layer DVD and use Lion DiskMaker to create a bootable installation flash drive or DVD (the USB flash drive will be faster).
Don't know why you're having trouble with the download, though....

  • If you mac comes preinstalled with Lion, how do you download an installer file

So if you purchase a mac and obviously it now comes preinstalled with Lion. How can you download a Lion installer?Yes we do have recovery HD and internet recovery to reinstall lion but this heavily relies on the internet. Since the machine comes preinstalled, the Lion installer wouldn't appear in MAS. Aside from cloning the HD what else is our option?

I've seen this but what this does is to make an exact same replica of the Recovery HD. When you boot to this and go for reinstall OS, it will still download it to the internet. Ultimately its the same method as Recovery HD partition and Internet recovery. They all download the OS and automatically INSTALLS it to the HD. I am looking for a solution that gives us a "download only" option. Basically a Lion installer
e.g if you purchase Lion from MAS, it gives you that download file. That's what I was looking for, this is not possible for preinstalled Lion machines

  • If Mountain Lion is pre-installed on my Macbook, can I re-download the installer on the App Store?

    I buy 2012 Macbook Air with Mountain Lion pre-installed;
Am I able to re-download the Mountain Lion installer from the App Store, without cost?

No. What's installed on the computer is unique and licensed just to that computer. If you need to reinstall it you would use OS X Lion- About Lion Recovery.

  • Downloading App store purchased Mountain Lion installer onto Mac with preinstalled OS X

I need to reinstall Mountain Lion on my Mac Book Pro. I purchased ML on the app store but need to create a bootable USB key. The only Mac I have available to do this is my girlfriend's new MacBook Air.  This has a preinstalled version of Mountain Lion on it already. I know that I cannot re-use her preinstalled version of ML on my MBP but I would like to use her notebook to download the installer from my app store account.  When I try to do this, however, I get an error message saying that Mountain Lion is not compatible with her computer.  There appears to be no way to access a legitimately purchased app store version of ML on a computer where another version is pre-installed.  Could this really be the case?  All troubleshooting searches come up with people trying to illegally re-use the preinstalled OS on another computer---this is not what I am trying to do! Again, I want to access my paid in full app store purchase on a preinstalled device in order to put it back on my MBP. Help!

The Mid 2013 MacBook Air comes with a special 10.8.4 version, that makes impossible the process to download the common 10.8.4 from the App Store. You won't have this problem when Apple releases OS X 10.8.5.
You can't download 10.8.4 from the MacBook Air if you are going to install it in the MacBook Pro. You have to connect it to Internet and reinstall OS X using OS X Recovery > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718

    hi

Computers that now come with Lion pre-installed do not require a disc. They would be restored via the Internet Recovery system: OS X Lion- About Lion Recovery. You can create an emergency Recovery HD volume on a USB flash drive using the OS X Lion: About Lion Recovery Disk Assistant.
It is possible to make a bootable installer but the process is a bit involved:
Downloading Hardware Specific Lion Installers will enable you to get a copy of the Lion installer application from which you can make a bootable Lion installer on an 8 GB USB flash drive:
    Make Your Own Lion Installer
    1. After downloading Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Lion application. After Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Lion installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing Lion.
    2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    3. Locate the saved Lion installer in your Downloads folder. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the installer and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. Double-click on the Contents folder to open it. Double-click on the SharedSupport folder. In this folder you will see a disc image named InstallESD.dmg.
    4. Plug in your freshly prepared USB flash drive. You are going to clone the InstallESD.dmg disc image to the flash drive as follows:
    Open Disk Utility.
Select the USB flash drive from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the USB flash drive volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Drag the InstallESD.dmg disc image file into the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
When the clone is completed you have a fully bootable Lion installer that  you can use without having to re-download Lion.
