Download Lion without installing

I have a 24 and 27 inch iMac.
The 24 inch iMacs drive died so I put a new one in. I do not have the osx disks that came with it, lost miss placed who knows.
My 27 iMac as 10.6.7, I can not upgrade to 10.6.8 due to some work related software that will not work on 10.6.8. I have to stay at 10.6.7 for at least another 6 months.
However I want to install 10.8.x on the iMac 24 inch that as the fresh blank new drive.
So I tried to download Lion on the 27 inch iMac but it won't let me says I need 10.6.8 to upgrade. I don't plain to upgrade plan to download lion and burn the image to dvd so I can boot the 24 inch iMac with it.
How can I download or buy lion on DVD for a blank Mac install.
Want to just download by passing the system check..
help
tia

I don't believe it, I went through the whole process of cloning drive and attempting to update to mountain lion.
I have a white 24 inch iMac 6.1 2.33 Ghz intel core 2 duo, I purchased it just before the silver ones came out, don't remember when exactly when but its not compatible with Mountain Lion.
I find it very hard to believe that its obsolete so quick, I have the floating lamp iMac, G5 20 inch iMac and looks like this one is now joining them in the basement.

  • Download lion without install

I just bought a standalone copy of osx 10.7. But I want to install onto a different computer than the one I've downloaded to. How do I do this? It appears that it simply wants to go straight to install. If I do the install on this computer, can I still used it to upgrade my other computer. I don't want to lose the license.
    Thanks

Actually, nevermind. Answered my own question. It is already downloaded and resides in the Applications folder, which is exactly what I wanted.

Thanks Smokemonster. I found that the Lion install app was in in my applications folder already. Worked fine.

  • Download Lion without native mac app store.

    Hey Guys,
I've got a 2011 mac mini server, it's currently got Windows server 2008 R2 installed on it.
I'd like to run OSX Lion Server as a virtual machine. But I need a .iso (preferably) to be used to install the operating system.
Because I didn't receive any installation discs with the mac, I dont have a copy up front.
What's the easiest way for me to get an .iso of OSX Lion Server without needing to use the app store.
(Currently it's not easy for me to be able to boot into OSX, because I have it set up as a remote machine and I only have windows installed).
    Thank you.

First Lion Server is just an add on to Lion. So first you have to install Lion then buy Lion Server. The only way to buy Lion other then from the App store is to buy the Lion USB thumb drive.
You can run Lion in a VM but first you have to have a copy of it. If your Mini came with Lion pre-installed you may be able to use the Lion Internet Recovery system to download it and save it.

  • Is there any way for downloading LION without recovery tool? macbook air (mid 2011) ?

I recently bought a macbook air(mid 2011) and I am using ADSL internet services which needs couple of hours to complete downloading of LION. but when I come back to see what happened few hours after download started, I found myself in Lion Recovery startiting page !
seems that I am in a endless loop !!
In addition, Its not possible to download it from app store, since it shows that the application has beed installed already. is there any suggestion ?
I guess I should first download it using speed download and then install it !

Have you tried holding the Option key down and then clicking on "Purchases" in the App Store interface? If this works, then you'll see "Install" instead of "Installed" against Lion. Download Lion then -- it will go to your Applications folder -- and do not give your password for installation to execute. You should then have the full Lion installation package in your Applications folder. With "Show Package Contents", in "Shared Support" find InstallESD.dmg. If you burn that to a blank DVD you'll have a Lion Install disc. But since you have a MacBook Air, you could use a (not less than 8 GB capacity) pen drive to store the installation without having to do the full download every time.

  • Can i go from 10.6.8 straight to OS X Mountain lion without installing OS X Lion?

I have Snow lion 10.6.8...do i need to get lion first then mountain lion...or can i just get mountain lion and install?

Assuming your system profile is correct you can purchase Lion here:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
You will be purchasing a download code, to be "redeemed" in the App Store.
Read the system requirements and back up your system first, as a precaution against the unexpected.

  • How can I download Lion without the app store?

My friend bought his Macbook pro summer 2009 so whatever operating system that it came with (10.5 lepord I believe) did not download the app store when it updated. Now he wants to put lion on his macbook pro. Is there a way to download it without the app store? If not, how can he get the app store?
    Any help would be great!

Yes, you need to upgrade to Snow Leopard before upgrading to Lion. You can purchase Snow Lion from the online Apple Store, a brick-and-mortar Apple Store, or from Amazon.
Then you will have the App Store application and you can upgrade to Lion.

  • HT1338 I downloaded Lion to install on my computer and now it will not allow me to upgrade.  What else do I need to do?

Hello, what else do I need to do to download Lion?  I bought the software of the website to download on my MAC and it says I can not load it with my current version of OS.

You need to tell us exactly what version of the Macbook Pro you are trying to update.  Lion will only run on systems that support 64bit computing.  For instance, the MacBook Pro Core Duo can not run Lion.  It requires a "Core 2 Duo".
Also please describe exactly what Error Message you are seeing.

  • How can I download CS6 without installing now?

I have a Serial CD Key for CS6 Master Suite.  I would like to download the install package to be installed later?  It does not seem to be an option on the download site.  I also would like to buy the DVD backup disks but also can't find how that is done?

Download a trial, and remember the location where you save the installers.
Once the download is complete, go the location where you saved the installer and copy them to a location of your choice. You may also burn them on a disk for future use if you wish.

  • Download Mavericks without installing

This may sound like a dumb question but I can't find an answer to it.  I have a MBP with ML.  I have a 2nd partition that I want to install Mavericks on to test it out. When I go to the App store it says "Install app" after I click upgrade.  I do not want to upgrade my ML main drive at all.  I just want to install Mavericks on the 2nd partition so I can verify software compatibility before actually upgrading.  If I click "install app" will it give me the option of which drive I want to install it on or simply upgrade my existing ML install?

You should get a choice (if the partition is mounted and compatible). The best option though is to quit the installer when the download is complete, then make a copy of the installer (it will be in the Applications folder) then you can use it how, where and when you like, and when the installer deletes itself after the installation you'll have a copy of it to use.

  • How to download Lion from Developer Center to install in Parallels VM

I have an iMac and a MacBook Air (MBA) both with OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. I need to create a Parallels virtual machine with Mac OS X 10.7 Lion as the guest OS to be run on the MBA. I have Parallels installed on the MBA; all I need to do now is to create the VM. But first, I need a Lion install.
So, I accessed the Developer Center and generated a Redeem Code for OS X Lion which I have successsfully added to my list of purchases in App Store. However, when I try to download OS X Lion the following message is reported.
Any ideas how I can download Lion to install into my VM?

    Kappy wrote:
I guess I shouldn't ask why you would want to run Lion in a Parallels' VM.
I'm a software developer. I have a customer that has expressed a need for me to test the software being developed on Mac OS X Lion as well as OS X Mountain Lion. (I may also need to test on Snow Leopard but that's not definite at the moment.) I have Mountain Lion installed on my development machine (iMac) and test machine (MacBook Air) and I'd like to keep it that way - hence, my desire to install Mountain Lion in a Parallels VM.
As a registered member of the Apple Developer Program and as I understand it, I have access to past versions of Mac OS X - hence, the redeem code. This appeared to be the easiest way to get the OS X version(s) I need. It turns out, appearances can be deceiving.
Nothing shifty going on here, I assure you.
