  • Download, battery, and sleep problems on macbook pro with retina display after upgrading to Mountain lion

After waiting a few days to download OS X Mountain lion, I finally installed it on my new MacBook with retina display a couple days ago. I love the interface and all the new features, but I've noticed some problems I really need to resolve. I'm constantly downloading large files and I noticed thhis change:
Before, on Lion, I could download files from Safari or the Internet and the computer would sleep whenever it was set to on energy preferences and the download would resume. This would let the computer conserve energy so the download could progress further when on battery. Now, I noticed that my computer never goes to sleep! Its set to have the display sleep in 5 minutes and the computer in 15 on both battery and when plugged in, but it never does either. I don't know if it has to do with the fact that power nap is on even when using battery. So now the Mac is constantly on when downloading something and instead of downloading a one gigabyte file that would take up 15% of my battery, it takes up 60% since it never sleeps. When I tried downloading something and then manually putting the computer to sleep, the download was interrupted and it said Wi-Fi connection lost so I have to start the download over again.
That's basically all three problems in one situation. I even put the brightness all the way on low so the screen is black when downloading, but it still uses up much more battery than before. Can someone help find a solution?

Did you try turning off power nap?

  • How do I download Adobe Flash Player on my Macbook Pro with Retina Display? It keeps asking me to quit Safari in the background.

    .

Yes, you have to quit Safari for the Flash Installer to complete the installation process. It's sounds as if you've download Flash Player and are trying to install it?

  • Mountain Lion FREE update for MacBook Pro Retina 2012

Hello, looking for an honest support.. I bought my Macbook Pro Retina 2012 on this 15 July 2012 from Apple's authorised premium reseller of Bangladesh (Executive Machines Ltd.).. I just knew & saw yesterday that Mountain Lion was published & it is FREE for the buyers who bought the new qualifying machine (as my one is!).. so I just followed the apple.com eligible link and provided my details (address of my current residence which happens to be "Bangladesh", country, city & my valid macbook pro "serial number"..).. after that received a claim reference number mentioning that the FREE redeem code will be emailed to me after checking my claim has been validated.. but after carefully going through that eligibility link I noticed that claims are not eligible for outside US/ Canada.. and now I've provided my serial number & it has been used! and moreover, I did not recieve any email notification from Apple even after 24+ hours!.. what should I do now? .. do I need to buy this Mountain Lion once again even after I am eligible for the FREE update as Apple mentioned before or I just lost my free redeem opportunity as I bought it from outside US (event though from Apple's authorised reseller!!)?? please need honest suggestion..

As you can only get OS X from Internet Recovery, you can't get the OS X Mountain Lion stored on the HDD and make a bootable volume with it. Also, you can't install the OS X version you have on your other Mac because the hardware of this MacBook Pro with Retina display isn't compatible with that OS X version.
In your case, reinstall OS X and see what happens. If you can't reinstall OS X, take the computer to an Apple Store because you can't do anything with that MacBook Pro now

  • OSX Mountain Lion free with MacBook Pro with Retina Display bought in June?

I was informed when purchasing my new MacBook Pro with Retina Display in June 2012 that OS X Mountain Lion would be given to me for free through email because it was to come out so soon after the purchase date.  I haven't gotten any emails with details of how to obtain my free update.  I was wondering when I should expect to get that, or did the lovely Apple workers (multiple workers told me this) lie about this? Thanks for your help!

    You have to request it:

  • I have purchased a MacBook Pro with Retina display, but it will not arrive within 30 days of my purchase. Does this mean I will not be able to update the software to Mountain Lion?

As already stated, I have recently purchased a MacBook Pro with Retina display. It will arrive in 4-5 weeks so I don't assume it will arrive in less than 30 days. I would like to know wheather I will still be entitled to a free softwere update to the Mountain Lion. The laptop will ofcourse be completely new and recently purchased, so it would be very disappointing if I am not entitled to this update. Please let me know if you know anything about this or have any assuptions. Thank you

You can call apple if you need reassurance, but they will not turn you down on the free upgrade just because you have not received your computer by day 30.

When trying to update getting (error surle error domain error-1100). It started yesterday, any help would be great. I have Mountain Lion 10.8.1 on a new macbook pro with retina display.

There are many people suffering from this problem right now (including me). It appears to be a server issue. Just wait and try checking for updates again tomorrow.
Some things I have heard indicate that this may be a regional problem, though what parts of the world are affected I don't know yet. A few people have been helped by deleting the following preference file (paste the path into the Go -> Go to Folder window in the Finder to locate it), though most have not:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
Note that if you are trying to download iTunes 10.7, that can be found here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1576
Also, note that there is no reason to be anxious to get it, as the only thing added in iTunes 10.7 is compatibility with iOS 6, which will not be available until the 19th, and the new iPhone, which will not be available until later as well. The new iTunes that was announced is iTunes 11, which is also not yet available.

  • Connecting my macbook pro with retina display after upgrading my OS to Mountain Lion

I have been using my macbook pro with retina display for more than a month and I can connect it to my HD Television, Fine. But since I upgraded my OS to mountain Lion, I can no longer connect it to my television.  Did apple missed something with mountain lion? I know there is nothing wrong with my connection, so something is wrong with the new mountain lion OS.  Can people from APPLE help me?

No one from Apple here - this is a user-to-user forum. I don't have a Retina but if you could let us know how you were connecting (HDMI>HDMI, for example) perhaps someone will be able to help you out.

  • Why will some CDs not work properly with my Macbook Pro with Retina display?

I have the external CD drive for the Macbook Pro with Retina display, but I'm finding that some CDs will not run their applications properly. However, on the older editions of the Macbook Pro (for example, on the 13"), the programs run fine. Is there something I can download to fix this problem?

When the MBP-R does not run CD applications "properly", what does it do?
Is it possible that the applications that do not run properly are incompatible with Mountain Lion? For example, might they be old PowerPC applications that relied on Rosetta to run on Intel CPUs?

  • Macbook Pro with Retina Display Trackpad double tap not working

I just got my macbook pro with retina display and updated it to mountain lion. When I double tap text, it doesn't highlight it like it used to on my old macbook.
I tried to so the trackpad update 1.0 but it says it is not supported on your system. What does that mean?? And even holding and highlighting doesn't work. is anyone else having the same problem?
    PLEASE HELP!!!!!

You could try updating your apple TV and then restarting it. Bit of a guess.

  • MacBook Pro with retina display battery question

I recently bought a 15" macbook pro with retina display, and was wondering if my battery is working as it should.
I usually get about 3:03 hours with brightness at full and keyboard backlight at full with skype (not using it but on),safari with 6 tabs, twitter, and mail.
Oh and im also watching a youtube video on 720p.
    My question is this:
Is the battery life supposed to be like this?
ON mountain lion 10.8.2 and a lot of people are saying i should be at about 5-8 hours.
    Any recommended solutions?
    EDIT
Just after i finished writing this my battery time estimate went up, its now 4-4:50 hours left

When I use my MBP on battery, I turn screen brightness down to about four bars and keyboard backlighting down to a single bar. I usually only have open a handful of Internet apps (Firefox, Outlook, etc.) and spend most of the time simply web-surfing, watching very few videos. And I can get almost 7 hours out of a fully charged battery. When new, I was getting 7+ hours, but with 182 cycles and the fact that the computer is 8 months old now, that's not bad.
Turn everything down as low as you can stomach and you should get a good 6 hours of battery time, if you keep your video to a minimum and use the built-in graphics card (to force this, use gfxCardStatus).
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Installing CS4 to Macbook Pro with Retina Display

Hi, I just got a Macbook Pro with the Retina Display and I have tried installing CS4 to it, but apparently the version of adobe air does not exist. I do not know if this has anything to do with the flash storage since adobe products do not work with it. I installed CS4 to my iMac just fine. I read on another forum that CS4 is not compatible with the Macbook Pro with Retina Display and there were people who suggested installing CS6.
However, I also read that adobe is just installing retina display support to the products in the upcoming Fall to some of the CS6 applications (not including InDesign, which I need). Should I switch to the Macbook Pro w/o Retina display?

Adobe CS4 applications do not work properly with Mountain Lion 10.8. See table:
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
CS6 works fine. I believe Adobe updated CS6 to work better with retina display. Check at the Adobe web site:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/catalog.html?promoid=KAWQI
Should you switch or not is your decision.

  • Powernap Issues the Macbook Pro with Retina Display

I am running Mountain Lion 10.8.1 on a Macbook Pro with Retina Display.  I have noticed that every time I wake up the MBPR from sleep, I have lost the blue indicator lights that illuminate on the  dock when an app has been set to run by clicking its icon on the dock. Furthermore, every time this happens I have noticed that I lose the system sound for putting items in the trash and the system sound for emptying the trash.  If I reboot the MBPR, these problems disappear, i.e running an app from the dock illuminates a blue light beneath it on the dock and I have system trash sounds. However, the moment I put the MBPR to sleep the next time I wake it up both of these problems are back.
I finally traced this issue to enabling PowerNap on my MBPR.  Anytime PowerNap is enabled I have these two problems occur when waking my MBPR from sleep.  If I disable PowerNap in System Preferences, then I no lnoger lose the blue indicator lights for running apps in the dock and I no longer lose the system trash sounds upon waking the MBPR from sleep.
I believe Apple has a bug in the PowerNap funciton that may be specific to the MBPR.  I would appreciate hearing form other MBPR owners if they have observed the same problems upon waking their MBPR from sleep with PowerNap enabled.
    Tom

Thanks for responding.  Interestingly enough the only sound effects that I have lost with PowerNap enabled have been those involving the trash, and I also am using PowerNap enabled only while plugged into AC power and not on battery .  Other sound effects play promptly.  I have not found PowerNap to be of much use in any case and since disabling it has resolved the issue for me, I'll just leave it disabled until there are further updates to ML and see if they address the issue for me.
