Download of January CPU Patch, the filename is somewhat cryptic

I've tried to download the january cpu patch for three different o/s and when I click the download button, the file name looks right (i.e. p9952279_10105_SOLARIS64.zip), but when I click save the file name changes to a variation of letters and number (i.e. CAER8HUF.zip).
Why does this happen?

The given link take to the window where CPU patch for all the quarter available.

Critical Patch Update - April 2012 Rev 2, 19 July 2012
If I click on Critical Patch Update - October 2012 its takes to the window for selectin the database version (11.2.0.3). From there it goes to the Patch Set Update and Critical Patch Update October 2012 Availability Document [ID 1477727.1] which I had already checked.

  • What is the use of security pathces or cpu patches?

    Hi
    All,
What is the use of security pathces or cpu patches?
    Thanks,
    Vishal

Basically, Security patches keep your system secure from known expoits which could compromise your database should someone try to hack it. You don't have to put these patches on but you do need to assess the risk of not patching by checking what the security patch patches and deciding whether you are exposed or not. If you are unsure, then I'd recommend you patch.
CPU patches are Critical Patch Updates that are issued quarterly. These are a mix of security patches and bug fixes. The same applies - you don't have to patch but it is worth taking a look at what is patch and making some assessment of how exposed you might be if you don't.
Be warned, though. If you hit a problem and need Oracle's help, then Oracle support may insist that you are patched to the latest patchsets before they will assit with your issue (assuming the patch doesn't fix the issue).
One word of advice would be that if you do decide to patch, patch your test environment first and make sure everything works normally afterwards, just in case the patch introduces a new issue for your environment - this is rare but I have seen it happen.
    Cheers,
    R

  • Why does a downloaded epub file get the flv extension added to the filename?

I created an ePub file that works fine. I used the Creative Cloud version of inDesign on my MacBook Pro with OS 10.7.
I emailed to someone to view. The recipient was going to download the ePub to her Mac and sync with her iPad.
She was using Safari and gmail. She received the email with the attachment. When she clicked download in the email next to the attachment, it downloaded but added the .flv extension to the file.
With this extension, the file could not be added to the iTunes library. Removing the .flv so that the filename was restored to the original with the .epub extension, all worked just fine.
I set all .epub files to be opened by Adobe Digital Editions on my computer.
I replicated the same situation on my Mac with Safari and gmail. Then, I tried with my yahoo email account. Same situation, file downloads but gets .flv extension added. Guess I can't blame gmail.
Tried with Chrome and file downloaded with correct name, no extra extension.
Tried with Entourage and file save with .epub, no extra extension.
Have not yet tried this on a windows machine but will do so in a bit and report back with results.
How can I prevent the extra extension?
    Thanks,
    Alex

Just checked this on a Windows 8 laptop.
Went to gmail. Opened the message and downloaded the ePub file. It downloaded just exactly as expected. No change to the file name.
I zipped up a folder with the ePub file inside and tried that zip file. I emailed the zip file to my gmail account and then downloaded the zip file and unzipped it. The ePub file came through the process with no alteration to its name.
As long as I send the ePub inside a zip, I don't seem to have a problem.
I would still like to know how to prevent the change in name when I email just the ePub file, though.
    Thanks,
    Alex

For those generating the filename portion of the header, it would be best to replace the spaces with %20 (URI encoding for space).

  • How to see the filename of the photos available in the iphone without downloading them or connecting to any other device

I am unable to find the filename of the photos available in my iphone 5. How should i get that?

You can't view that on the iPhone natively.
You can, however, import the pictures to your PC or Mac and view the file names there. They should be in the IMG_XXX format.

  • Firefox 3 cannot download files with white space in the filename

When opening attachments in e-mail Firefox is unable to handle files with white space in the name. This is not the same as the white space file name truncation problem documented on this site (where file names with white space are truncated on saving.) The issue is that the browser will prompt to allow the file to be saved, but it will not prompt to open the file as an option. If I rename the file to remove white space then I do receive the "Open with..." dialog box. I verified that Firefox 2 did not have this problem and I can open attachments with white space in the file names just fine using that version of the browser (2.0.0.20).
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == Upgraded to version 3

When a user clicks on an attachment with spaces, the filename is truncated to the first whitespace. While IE, Chrome & Safari handle this, Firefox refuses to accept mime headers with unquoted filename parameters. According to Firefox's bugzilla/knowledgebase, Firefox's behavior is the correct behavior and it's a problem with most webservers or web applications. This problem can be easily corrected by surrounding the filename parameter with double quotes.
    Eg.
    Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=\"" + fileName + "\"");

  • FTPing .zip CPU patch files...

    Hi
I have downloaded a .zip file for Oracle CPU Patch and wants to move it to UINX server. After connecting the UNIX server, beofre I say "put <filename>"...do I have to say "binary"?
Your answer will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards
    Ahmed.

    Hello,
Besides the previous answer, generally (if you click on the patch detail) you have the size of the zip file in bytes.
    For instance:
Size 1.1G (1123325074 bytes) So, once you have sent the zip file on the Unix server, you can check if it's size is correct.
    Hope this help.
    Best regards,

  • Oracle 10g CPU patch

Oracle 10g on Windows server 2003. I need to do CPU patch. I follow the patch instructions, but I have some questions:
    1. back up %oracle_home% directory. Is this just to copy whole directory to different disk?
    2. clean shutdown all Oracle services: I know this includes db, listener, db control, anything else?
    3. The Db has ASP application on the top. How to shutdown application? what components should I look at?
Webserver that uses Oracle client in the mid-tier?
    4. What does ODBC application mean?
5.What does this mean? "make sure no applications are using the driver sqora32.dll"
6.What does "Oracle Instant Client" mean? Is this regular Oracle client tool installed on application server? I guess not.
    Appreciate any help.

Thank you. I guess I need to make my questions clear:
    1. back up %oracle_home% directory. Is this just to copy whole directory to different disk?
My question: Is this just to copy to different disk OR you have other way to do it?It is a suggestion that will allow you to recover. In some cases (non-production) I will skip this step.
In production, I will ask the Backup team to make an extra backup of the entire ORACLE_HOME so they can do a quick restore if I mess up. (Then I'll be extra careful not to mess up.)
And yes, if you are comfortable that a disk copy will be sufficient to do a complete restore, then that should be OK as well.
    >
2.clean shutdown all Oracle services: I know this includes db, listener, db control, anything else?
I don't have ASM or ClusterwareThe you probably don't need to worry about it.
If you have any other Oracle stuff (BI Suite, SOA Suite, etc) that tries to log on to the database, these must be made aware of the outage - usually by shutting them down. Even if they are not on the same server.
    >
3.What does this mean? "make sure no applications are using the driver sqora32.dll"
My question is where and how can I find this DDL?
Are you seriously saying you do not have access to an OS file-search tool?
At least one copy is in ORACLE_HOME/bin
    >
    4. What does "Oracle Instant Client" mean? Is this regular Oracle client tool installed on application server? I guess not.
My question is that is this tool to get installed on Oracle server or application server? My vendor installed the Oracle server for us, how do I know if this tool got installed or not?It is a completely separate download. It is usually installed at the client, not on the server. However, since you have a vendor install, you may want to discuss this with the vendor.
The big challenge with Instant Client is that it is not an 'install' . It is just an unzip into an arbitrary directory, and does not get recorded in the registry. So almost impossible to find without the SysAdmin's install notes.
