Download podcast without subscribing to it?

Before iTunes 9 I was able to search a podcast, find an epidsode, and click the "Free" button to download just that episode without having to subscribe to the entire podcast.
Come iTunes 9, which is supposed to be a more advanced version, and the "Free" button doesn't work at all unless you have subscribed to that podcast. How can I download a single episode of a podcast without subscribing to it?

Go to the website where the podcast is hosted and download it from there. Yeah, it's a pain in the *** to have to do that, but it's still doable.

  • Downloading iWeb podcasts without "Subscribe" button?

My "enhanced" podcast (photos & audio) in an iWeb podcast page runs fine in a QT window. But what if I don't want a "Subscribe" button on my page or my podcast published on the iTunes Store?
...How can a visitor simply download the podcast (right now) to put in iTunes on their computer and perhaps then onto an iPod?
Control-clicking on the QT window gives the option of "Save as QuickTime Movie" only if the visitor has QT Pro. But is there a way for a visitor to download/save the m4a/m4b file as a podcast from my iWeb Podcast page?
(Perhaps I'm missing something really simple here.)
    Thanks.

A workaround for non QuickTime Pro owners.
Archive the file (Finder will add .zip to its name) and then use the "Link to File" option of iWeb.
A .zip file will always download and open (expand) with a double click.
Drawback is that now two files must upload which wastes bandwidth and server space.

  • "Error = -39" while trying to download podcast-episodes

It seems that lately, more and more episodes from podcasts that I'm subscribed to won't download, giving an error: "(error = -39)" (or fout = -39, since I'm using the Dutch version of iTunes).
    *What does this error mean?*
When I open the feed of such a podcast in notepad and copypaste the link of the episode in question to my browser, the link checks out OK so it must be something else than that.
Offtopic: I got "error = 404" as well on some other (older) episodes but I guess that means an episode is not available any more for downloading..?

The podcasts that you have already downloaded are stored in a separate directory named "Podcasts", separate from the "Podcasts" directory within the "Downloads" directory. so you can delete "downloads/podcasts" without having to worry about the podcasts that have downloaded correctly.

  • Cant simulatanously download Podcasts?

Hey while downloading a large amount of Podcasts for Tutorials (Final cut, Motion, CS3) i cant seem to download 3 of them at once?
i have disabled ALLL Antivirus and spyware blockers, logged out then logged back in, and updated to 7.6.2
but when i start to download them again i get 1 out of the 3 with 3259. so now the only way i seem to get them is to download them 1 at a time. Any fix???

Ahh yes. 3259 is a timeout error. This has been a problem for many users lately (and they're getting very frustrated!). Many people say disabling anti-virus software (especially McAfee) does the trick. Also, disabling Simultaneous Downloads will eliminate the error.
However, the error occurs because the default connection settings in XP allows only two connections to any given server from your computer. Since all of the podcasts you are trying to download are located on the same server, you can only download two at a time, even though iTunes allows you to have three simultaneous downloads.
Luckily, I have a fix for this. (Note: I did not develop this method. However, through my extensive Googling , I have never heard of it being used (or even mentioned) to solve the iTunes 3259 timeout error. Also note: I have tested this method using the same podcast you showed in your screenshots, with iTunes 7.6.2.9, and it works.)
    Ok, let's fix this!
*+(Note: The following procedure involves modifying the Windows Registry.)+*
    1. Make sure iTunes is completely shut down.
    2. Open Notepad and copy the following into a blank document, *NOTE: replace "open bracket" and "end bracket" with actual brackets!*:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    *+open bracket+* HKEYCURRENTUSER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings *+end bracket+*
    "MaxConnectionsPerServer"=dword:00000005
    "MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server"=dword:00000005
    3. Choose "Save As" and in "Save as type:" choose "All files."
    4. Save the file as "conregedit.reg" or whatever you wish to name it, making sure you have the extension .reg
    5. Locate the .reg file you just saved and double-click it. Click "Yes" when prompted.
    6. Open iTunes. You should now be able to download podcasts without the 3259 error!

  • How can I make my podcast episdoes available without subscribing?

On my podcast page you've got to subscribe to get the podcast, on others you can download individual episodes from the Music Store page. Anyone know how to set that up?
    Thanks!

I actually have a similar problem. The podcasts are intentionally unavailable in the Music Store, but are available on a website. We want to have the option to either subscribe to the podcast, or download individual items without subscribing. The files are .m4v. Currently we have a subscribe.xml file with the channel info and all of the items and their info, and then we have a separate file for each item that contains the channel info and just that specific item. Then we link to each of them on the site. If a user clicks on a link to an indivitual item, they still get subscribed, which we don't want to happen. Any advice?

  • I can no longer download any NPR podcasts I subscribe to. I can download and listen to other podcasts but none from NPR.  I have tried on Windows 7 and Windows 8.  Other podcasts, music etc. download fine.

I can no longer download any NPR podcasts I subscribe to.
I can download and listen to other podcasts but none from NPR.
I have tried downloading the podcasts on computers that run Windows 7 and Windows 8.  Other podcasts, music etc. download fine.
    iTunes version:  11.3.0.54
I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling iTunes and I have tried unsubscribing and resubscribing to the podcasts.
I don't have trouble getting NPR podcasts from the store. I just can't play them in iTunes.

For additional context and to verify if we are talking about the same behavior.  Here is what the download screen looks like on my iPod:

  • Recent podcasts of podcasts I subscribe to are not downloading when iTunes is opened

recent podcasts of podcasts I subscribe to are not downloading when iTunes is opened or Touch sync is attempted.

Presumably, you normally open iTunes and let it automatically check for new epsiodes. (The frequency with which it does this can be changed, see below.) Have you allowed it time to think about checking? My iTunes is set to check only once a day.
First of all, make sure that the Settings for Podcast downloads are still set the way you want. (Settings have been known to change - especially after iTunes updates).  Look in Library/Podcasts/Settings (which is at the bottom of the Podcasts window) and makes sure that Check for new episodes: is not set to "manually" and that When new episodes are available is not set to to "do nothing".
If those settings are okay, make sure that your iTunes can still access the internet. (Can you get the the iTunes Store front page?) If other programmes can access the internet, but iTunes cannot, check that your firewall will allow iTunes access.
Let us know how you get on.

  • Cannot Download Podcasts - iTunes 10.5.1 x64

    Good Morning All -
For the past few days, I've been unable to download Podcasts in iTunes.
    What Happens
I can subscribe to Podcasts via the iTunes Store and they show up in my Podcasts section, but are greyed out. (below)
When I try to click on "Get", an exclamation point is displayed to the left of the Podcast.  When I click on it, I get an error message:  "There was a problem downloading..." It then says "Authorization is needed to access..." (below)
    Machine Specs
    Lenovo Thinkpad T510
    Windows 7 SP1 x64
iTunes 10.5.1.42 x64 (The issue was there before upgrading, though)
Administrator / Local Administrator rights. (Computer is joined to a domain, but I log into it as a local user which has local admin rights)
What I've Tried to Resolve the Issue - None of them worked:
Delete / Unsubscribe from all Podcasts, then Subscribe to them again
Deauthorize iTunes (My Computer), then Authorize it again
Reinstalled iTunes (Uninstall / Delete any leftover files from Profile & App Path (except library) / Reinstall
    Windows Event Logs show nothing
    Other Notes
About a month ago, I did create a new Library in a different folder & even on a different partition.  I used it to migrate only the things I wanted to keep.  I did it this way so I could take my time doing it without loosing any current data.  Could this have something to do with it?  I'd rather not recreate a new library again from scratch - perhaps there's a way to "reset" just the Podcasts section.
I use iTunes to sync the following devices which I own:  iPhone 4 (5.0), iPad 2 Wifi (5.0), iPod Classic (~60gb), AppleTV Classic (4.x?)
    I use iTunes Match
Previously, I've installed and used "TuneUp" which runs alongside iTunes to clean my library of 3500+ songs.
The combined size of my Library on disk is ~90gb and is held on a seperate drive & partition than iTunes & OS and uses the D: drive letter (Seems stupid to say, but know different drive letters can cause issues in some apps)
    Lastly
So what may I do to resolve this issue?  I've tried to include any information that may have a role in the error.  Just in case, I ran the iTunes diagnostics and included them below.  I tried to include everything, but guess there's a limit of screenshots you can apply to a post.
    Thank You! - Ben K.
Diagnostics - Results Below in Screenshots
Note:  Was unable to run CD Drive test due to using a 2nd hard drive in CD slot - Wouldn't think it would be issue anyways.

Disable any Anti-Virus and Firewall software on the computer then try again.

  • How do i download podcast on my PC? Its asking me to type in the podcast name ending in xml but where do i find the rest ???

How do I download podcast onto my pc? I already do have iTunes. It ask me to type in podcast name ending in xml then click on install but where is the rest of the name?? where do I find this? Might be something simple I just seem to miss. Help!!! lol

The easiest way to subscribe to a podcast is locate it in a directory. There will normally be a link with the URL of the feed. This is like any other link but your podcatcher, iTunes in this case, knows how to read the text file stored there to access the individual episodes and download or stream them for you. If you know the name of the podcast, and it is registered with iTunes you can go into the podcasts section of your iTunes library, click iTunes Store, then use the search box at the top right. If you have the full URL for the podcast you can use File > Subscribe to Podcast..., or you can use a link on the providers web site.
Using the iTunes directory is usually the easiest way.
Click on the link for the podcast (4) to open the next screen,
and either subscribe (5) or download individual episodes without subscribing (6).

  • Downloading podcasts in the background causes iTunes to become unresponsive

This problem with iTunes downloading podcasts in the background is causing me fits in my well-behaved, rock-solid iMac environment.
Inevitably, while iTunes is automatically downloading one of my subscribed podcasts, iTunes will become unresponsive and freeze. This requires me to Force Quit iTunes, causing file system errors that need to be repaired with Disk Utility. The file system errors usually consist of these:
    "Missing thread record"
    "Incorrect number of thread records"
    "Invalid volume file count"
    "Missing directory record ID"
Luckily, Disk Utility can recover the damage without me losing any data. But it chaffs me to no end that I have to shut down my iMac, reboot with my SL DVD, dig up my wireless Mighty Mouse (since the SL DVD doesn't load drivers for my Magic Trackpad), repair my boot disk, reboot, then endure several minutes of "Checking the iTunes library" when I start up iTunes again. Not including the significant time it takes for me to re-establish my working environment.
The reason why I know it's a podcast that's causing the problem is that as soon as iTunes starts up, the podcast resumes downloading. I've never had iTunes freeze on me while downloading a podcast while I had iTunes in focus. This problem only occurs when iTunes is downloading a podcast in the background. I've checked the log, and the only messages I'm getting is from Automator saying that some actions are not compatible with my current version of iTunes.
This problem occurs with iTunes 10.0.1, but I've had it happen with iTunes 9.x . My iTunes library is on a Netgear ReadyNAS NV+, accessed by my iMac via 802.11n on my Airport Extreme.
Is anyone else experiencing freezes or beachballs when downloading podcasts? I'm about ready to shut off auto-download and just do it manually (in fact, I'm surprised that I haven't done this already ).

iTunes froze again while an podcast was being downloaded (in the Dock, the iTunes icon says "Force Quit"). I waited 10 minutes for iTunes to become responsive again, but it didn't. I tried Cmd-tab to the iTunes window, but it wouldn't come up. I was ready to Force Quit and repair my HD again, when I decided to try one more thing.
I used Expose to show all the open windows, then picked the frozen iTunes window. Doing this showed the window (why Cmd-tab wouldn't, I don't know), where it listed the partially downloaded podcast in the activity bar. I then went to get my SL DVD. When I got back, iTunes was unfrozen and the podcast download had completed!
I have no idea why the podcast wouldn't download while iTunes was hidden, and why Cmd-tab wouldn't restore the iTunes session to activity. But now I know that Expose can wake iTunes from the dead, preventing me from killing iTunes with the inevitable HD corruption.

  • Cant download podcasts directly from iphone

Your feed contains a number of errors, and when subscribing to it manually in iTunes it would not download any episodes. This is because your episode URLs have spaces in them. Spaces are not allowed in a URL: when using a browser it will replace the spaces with the code %20 and will locate the file: but iTunes does not do this. It sees the URL as ending at the first space. So you need to remove the spaces, or perhaps replace them with underscores, and amend the feed to suit.
The podcast is not searchable in the Store: this is because the 'title' tag, which should contain simply the title, encloses it within a 'CDATA' tag, which iTunes cannot read (this is assuming you have in fact sumbitted the podcast to the Store and had it accepted, something I cannot check).
The feed is lacking the 'itunes' declaration at the top, without which iTunes cannot read any of the 'itunes' tags (not in fact that you have any). The top of the feed should look like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <rss xmlns:itunes="http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd" version="2.0">
You have no 'itunes:author', 'itunes:summary' or 'itunes:subtitle' tags which carry the information to be displayed on the Store.
This page includes a sample feed so that you can see what a feed should look like:

  • How do I delete downloaded podcast episodes?

    Hello,
I am using an iPod touch.  Using iTunes on the iPod, I downloaded some podcast episodes. (I did not subscribe to podcasts. I just downloaded individual episodes.) I can listen to the audio without wifi by going to Music app/program, choosing More, then Podcasts.
But once I'm done listening to them, how do I delete the audio?
NOTE: I do NOT want to connect the iPod to a computer. I want to delete the audio/podcasts directly on the iPod touch.
    Thank you.

thanks, lllaass. Swiping solved it. Hope that when I remove the last episode in the podcast, the podcast itself is removed from my list of downloaded podcasts.

  • Download podcast to ipad ios7 not wifi?

I would like to download podcasts from TED and iTunes directly without wifi. I want to watch the podcasts from the iPad, not while streaming. Is this possible and if so, what is the procedure. I am not a wifi person.

If you subscribe to them all then they will all download to each device. All I can think of is deleting the ones you don't want on each device. The only other alternative would be to not actually subscribe to any podcasts on the iPad, but simply download the video ones as individual episodes, but that does mean remembering to go looking for them, because they won't automatically download without subscription.

  • Problems downloading podcasts.........

Just installed the latest version of iTunes and all the podcasts I subscribed to I can no longer download. I get the following error message
+"There was a problem downloading 'podcast'. An unknown error occurred(-39).+

Strange thing is though it only applies to the ones I subscribe to. Any other podcasts I can download like normal. I've even tried unsubscribing then subscribing again but this still doesn't work.
    Any ideas?

  • Downloading podcast error message

I am unable to download any free podcasts. I subscribe successfully, but when I click "Get" a grey exclamation point appears immediately. The error message is "There was a problem downloading "the podcast" . The required folder cannot be found. I get this message everytime I attempt to download something on ITunes. I have disabled the firewall and pop up blockers. Nothing changes -- same error message. I use Mozilla Firefox as a browser.
