Download previous episodes of a subscribed podcast

I've only just started using the subscribe feature in itunes. I used to download them manually of the podcasts I listened to.
But the problem is some podcasts I've just subscribed to don't show all episodes. Is there a way to download these into your itunes and show up under the same podcast title? One example is TWiT (This Week in Tech) where it only shows the most recent 10 episodes. I'd like to make it have all the episodes that have been released.

Once the podcaster removes a show's entry from their published feed/subscription file, you can't associate unlisted shows with the podcast.

  • Show all available episodes of a subscribed podcast without downloading?

I have the podcasts I am subscribed to set to automatically download any new episodes, and automatically delete them once they have been listened to/watched.  This works well enough, but when they are deleted, those particular episodes are no longer listed in the available episodes.  I know I can click "show all available episodes", but when I do that, they are automatically downloaded again.  iTunes apparently thinks they are new, and that I haven't listened to them yet.  Is there any way to maintain a current list of all available episodes in my subscribed podcasts?  There are older episodes (ones that haven't been downloaded since I have subscribed) still in the list, that iTunes apparently doesn't consider new, but any that have been downloaded and listened to since subscribing, are removed from the list when auto-deleted, and I can't get them back in the list without them being automatically downloaded again.  I hope this makes sense.  I tried to contact apple support, and the guy that replied had no idea what I was talking about.  I would appreciate any help.  Thanks a lot.

I think you misunderstood my question.  What I want to do is have ALL available episodes in the list, even the ones that I have downloaded (automatically because I am subscribed), listened to, and deleted (also automatically because I have it set to delete played episodes).  I just want a complete list of episodes including the ones I have already heard, but those episodes, once auto-deleted, are no longer listed, and if I "show all available podcasts", they are downloaded again.

  • Itunes doesn't show all episodes of a subscribed podcast

    Hi,
I am new to itunes and couldn't find the answer to this question:
how can I see all episodes of a subscribed podcast? In my library it only shows the most recent one.
      Windows Vista

If you see an arrow pointing to the right, next to the titlem change it so that it's pointing downwards. That should show all the eps & download all the episodes.

  • Every previous episode on all my podcasts has now been switched to "unplayed" in 11.2, so instead of a dozen unplayed episodes, i now have 2000. WHY?

Every previous episode on all my podcasts has now been switched to "unplayed" after updating to 11.2, so instead of a dozen unplayed episodes, I now have 2000. WHY? and I can NOT select and mark them and "Played" if they aren't downloaded.

Thanks for the replies. It took a while not hearing anything so thought I was alone. I have done many of the suggestions already. The key here is that it occurs on both phones with apps, and phones still packaged in a box.
A Genius Bar supervisor also checked his Verizon data usage log and found the same 6 hour incremental use. Suprisingly, he did not express much intrigue over that. Maybe he did, but did not show it.
I think the 6 hour incremental usage is the main issue here. I spoke with Verizon (again) and they confirmed that all they do is log exactly when the phone connected to the tower and used data. The time it records is when the usage started. I also found out that the time recorded is GMT.
What is using data, unsolicited, every 6 hours?
    Why does it change?
Why does it only happen on the iPhone 5 series and not the 4?
Since no one from Apple seems to be chiming in on this, and I have not received the promised calls from Apple tech support that the Genius Bar staff said I was suppose to receive, it is starting to feel like something is being swept under the rug.
I woke up the other day with another thought ... What application would use such large amounts of data? Well ... music, video, sound and pictures of course. Well ... what would someone set automatically that is of any use to them? hmmm ... video, pictures, sound. Is the iPhone 5 succeptible to snooping? Can an app be buried in the IOS that automatically turns on video and sound recording, and send it somewhere ... every 6 hours? Chilling. I noted that the smallest data usage is during the night when nothing is going on, then it peaks during the day. The Genius Bar tech and I looked at each other when I drew this sine wave graph on the log print outs during an appointment ...

  • No longer receiving all episodes for a subscribed podcast

No longer receiving all episodes for Bill Maher,  They seem to be intermittent.
iTunes on my Computer shows last full episode is 232, but iTunes store shows full episodes of 233 and 234.
My Computer does show some recent episodes such as Overtime for Episode 234.
My computer does not even list the missing episodes, so I cannot request a download of those specific shows.
    Any ideas?

It may help to unsubscribe and then resubscribe to the Podcast. Alternatively you can download those episodes from the listings in the store.

  • Possible to automatically download specific episodes from subscribed podcast?

I'm wondering if it's at all possible to automatically download only specific episodes in a subscribed podcast without downloading any of the other episodes.
IE: I subscribe to G4TV.com Web Shows Podcast specifically to watch the MMO Report episodes. I have no interest in any of the other episodes that form part of the podcast so I don't want to waste precious bandwidth downloading them automatically. Is there any way to setup a smart way to download only episodes with specific words or phrases in the title in the subscribed podcast? I love the auto download option of podcasts so I don't really want to have to manually go and check for new episodes to download.

No, there is no ftp server in the TC so it won't work.. upload the file to service. There are tons of places on the web whereby you can share a few files.. google sites excellent.

  • HT5070 I recently clicked " complete my season" but itunes is now trying to download ALL the episodes I have already purchased as well . This uses up my expensive internet connection and I don't want previous episodes as I already have paid for them.

As said above, I recently clicked "complete my season" on a particular Tv show. BUT itunes is now tring to download ALL the previous episodes I have already purhased which I do not want. I only want the next and new episodes of the series. By trying to download previous episodes, I am using up my expensice internet allowance. How can I prevent this from happeningand just get the NEW epiosodes ?

  • Scheduling iTunes to Download Subscribed Podcasts

I'm running iTunes 7.4.3.1 on Win XP Pro/SP2.
I have iTunes configured to check every day for new episodes of my subscribed podcasts. But it doesn't. It only checks when I explicitly run iTunes.
I tried to get around the problem by putting iTunes into my Startup folder so that it would run automatically when I (re)boot. It does run but only maximised. I can't make it run minimised to the System Tray even though I set the shortcut's properties to "run minimised".
What am I doing wrong? Surely I can set things up so that iTunes "does what it says on the tin" ???

Yes, it would be great feature. You should give your feedback directly to Apple:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
As for iPodService and iTunesHelper, I have almost no idea. I think the iPodSerivice may have something to with detecting an iPod. I have iTunes running now but no iPod plugged in. iTunesHelper is running but no iPodService. Or that could be because I'm using a Mac. Sorry.

  • Is there any way to get rid of this stupid feature in iTunes for Windows? You've subscribed to a podcast but have more than five unplayed episodes. iTunes will stop automatically downloading newer episodes.

s there any way to get rid of this stupid feature in iTunes for Windows?
You've subscribed to a podcast but have more than five unplayed episodes. iTunes will stop automatically downloading newer episodes. You may get the following message:
iTunes has stopped updating this podcast because you have not listened to any episodes recently. Would you like to resume updating this podcast?
You can click Yes to continue downloading additional episodes. Or you can just listen to any part of any episode and a new episode will download at the next update.

I believe that feature was added in order to reduce wasted costs to the Podcaster.
Podcasts incur costs - that have to be paid for, by someone. That cost will be the cost of hosting the Podcast on a server somewhere and more crucially (with regard to your point), the cost of the Podcast being downloaded to your computer. Every download costs the Podcaster money (typically, charged by bytes downloaded).
If that Podcaster pays for the whole thing personally, obviously they want to keep down any unnecessary cost to themselves. If the Podcaster is earning money for his or her Podcast (typically from advertising within the programme) then obviously, the advertiser only wants to pay for advertisements heard by listeners. So a download, not heard by the downloader, is waste of the Podcaster's money or no payment from the advertiser.
My own experience is that I only have to resume downloading once per programme. I'm usually several episodes behind on two different Podcasts that I follow, but I do not recall having to repeat the resume Podcast after that first time.

  • ITunes 11.3.1.2 does not download subscribed podcasts

iTunes Version 11.1.3.2 running under Windows Vista Business on a standard HP laptop.
I have an iPod Classic set up to synchronize several dozen podcasts.
I have subscribed to a podcast "60-Second Science" and the podcast settings are:
    When I select Refresh
I expect iTunes to download any new episodes of the podcast to my laptop (Download Episodes is ON, Limit Episodes is OFF).
But when I check, the newest episodes are available in the cloud, but are not downloaded. They each have the "cloud down arrow" symbol
which means they are available to be downloaded, but they have not been copied down to the laptop.
Here you can see than several recent episodes of the podcast are available, but have not been downloaded.
When I Synchronize my iPod, the newest episodes are not copied.
Here you can see that the episodes for Monday, Aug 1, Jul 31, etc. have not been downloaded or synchronized to my iPod.
But, if I manually click on the "cloud arrow down" symbol for the first episode, it is downloaded, then I can synch my iPod, and the episode is on my iPod for me to listen to. You can see that the episode "System Converts Solar..." is now on my iPod:
My question is: What else do I have to set so that the podcast episodes I have subscribed to are automatically downloaded? I have subscribed to almost 100 podcasts and I should not have to go to each one in Library | My Podcasts and manually select the newest episodes. Am I not following the directions? Is there another step I have missed?
Please tell me how to have my subscribed podcasts download automatically.
    Thanks and regards,

There has been a long-standing issue with the way iTunes handles Podcasts when there are multiple episodes available.
When your iTunes Library checks for new episodes of subscribed Podcasts, it will download only the latest one. This is fine if there is only one episode since iTunes last checked. But if there are two or more, then iTunes still only downloads the latest one, and ignores the previous episodes. Apple's apparent attempt to resolve this issue is to show the other episodes, but with the download cloud icon next to them. All well-and-good, but it's not obvious that this is what is happening, particularly when the Unplayed Episode Count includes those non-downloaded episodes.
What compounds this issue is that the in-the-cloud episodes are listed in the Podcasts Library, which up until that change, only included media actually in your Library.

Submit a product Enhancement Request as feedback at http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html, although I suggest you don't get your hopes up. I submitted one a long time ago, but all Apple has done is introduce the "cloud" episodes, which has not solved the problem.

The only thing you can do is set your iTunes to check for new episodes frequently enough to catch all the new ones.
However, even this may not be enough. There is a BBC programme that releases up to three new episodes every day, all within one hour. So even once and hour will not catch all three of these.

    Hi:
I have uploaded my 6 episode using blipTV as video host. Until now have not had a problem.

How long ago did you add the episode? Sometimes it takes iTunes a couple of days (or even a week) to update your listing. As long as you are able to download the newest episode, all of your subscribers should be getting the new stuff too. (It's just folks browsing iTunes won't see your newest of the new; once they subscribe they would get the new ones.)
I would be patient for awhile, as lots of people on this board have been reporting that iTunes has been quite slow on its updates lately. If it still isn't working after a few days, post links to your actual feed (not to the iTunes store link) and let us have a look at it.
BTW, are you aware that you have 2 listings for your "Watkis Words of Wisdom" podcast?

  • ITunes 11.3.1 update has caused subscribed podcasts to stop downloading.

Before this most recent iTunes update, my subscribed podcasts were updating fine. Then after the most recent update to 11.3.1, my subscribed podcasts will not download. Neither via automatic download or when I manually refresh the podcasts. This is exactly the bug that the release notes claimed the update was supposed to fix.
The only workaround that I have is to open the podcast page in the iTunes store and manually download the latest episode from the store.
    Any ideas?
    iMac, OS X 10.9.4

My problem is exactly as you described, except one of the podcast feeds I have is not in the apple store but directly elsewhere. I was able to view the RSS feed and it was updated wednesday (3 days ago) with a new podcast, but itunes has yet recognize it. I even exited and restarted itunes. It won't refresh the podcast. Since it's not in itunes store, I can't manually select the podcast from the store.
I was able to manually download the podcast through the RSS feed's source code, and drop it into itunes (so I could watch it on my apple TV).
Apple is really going down the sh*tter if they put out a release causing the very problem they claim to be fixing.

  • Still can't download single episodes of podcasts

I can't download single episodes of a podcast if I am subscribed to that podcast.
I saw all sorts of threads on the board from February, but the issue seems unresolved, and I have been experiencing it for the last few days.
Nothing happens when I hit the "Get Episode" button or "Subscribe Free."
However, I can subscribe to new podcasts. And when I wanted to get an episode of a podcast I had already subscribed to, I deleted the podcast from my Library, went back to the ITunes store and hit "Subscribe for Free." The episode then downloaded into my Library.
What's going on? Any fixes yet?
    Thanks,
    mylesaway

If you can see the older episodes, but the Get button is missing, along with the Subscribe/Unsubscribe button, then you need to use the Repair option for iTunes.
Do not uninstal iTunes. Download iTunes again and start the instal process. At some stage, you will see an option to Repair iTunes. Use this and once it's finished, the missing Get and Subscribe buttons will be restored.

  • Podcasts App in iOS not Downloading New Episodes for Some Podcasts

I am running version 2.2  (740) of the podcasts app in iOS 8.0.2
Some of my podcasts are no longer updating, while some continue to work normally.
If I navigate to My Podcasts > [Podcast Name] and then go into the feed tab, I cannot see any new episodes. However, If I unsubscribe and delete the podcast, then go search for it, I can see the new episodes. From here, I can even download individual episodes, but I cannot subscribe to the podcast. For some reason, the purple 'SUBSCRIBE' button does nothing when I tap it.
Is there a way to reset the Podcasts app? Do I need to hard reset the phone?
    Thanks!

Since no help was coming from Apple, I decided to try uninstalling 11.1.0.126 and then re-install the newly released version of iTunes for Windows, 11.1.1.11.
The Refresh button now seems to work, and new podcast are being downloaded.
