Download problem on Text to Speech

I have Captivate 4 loaded and did not originally install Text to Speech. I have installed the download multiple ways, but prior to that I was getting the following error message: The Application failed to Initialize properly (0vc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application. I followed the Captivate 4 module instructing me to go and get the trial version and execute the download file which I did, but when I go to my project to convert text to speech, it tells me I need to do a download again.

Hi Linda
Did you fully watch the tutorial? I ask because it's possible that you saw the first part and concluded it just walked you through what you have already done. The thing is, you download and run a file. But all you have downloaded and run are the INSTALL files for the Text To Speech. You have to then navigate to where the install files were placed and launch the installer to actually install TTS.

  • Special characters like hyphens cause problems in Text to Speech on Mac

The Text to Speech function with the shortcut [option+esc] has helped me  a lot. But, the only problem is that when there is a hyphen in the paragraph selected it doesn't even start reading the paragraph.
This problem occurs when reading pdf files from the chrome using TTS.

I thought that perhaps that I might be able to do something like make the iPod screen have a white text on black mode (like in the Mac OS X accessability mode), would this be possible?
Can anyone else think of anything when using an iPod to help vision impaired people to use an iPod?
    Cheers,

  • Problem using text to speech with Pages 09 and snow leopard

    Hi,
I am writing a large document and use the start speaking function often to hear parts of it read back after I write it.The speech sounds great for a page or two and then starts to become choppy and skips words and eventually becomes inaudible except for a few sputters. I would like to be able to listen to the entire document when I am done and would like to either solve the sputtering problem or find a new app that will allow a long paper to be read back by the computer. This problem is consistent on my macbook(2010) as well as my iMac(2009).
Thanks for any suggestions in advance.

I have to constantly reboot/restart between Lion on my New Thunderbolt Mini and Snow Leopard off and External Drive.
Why? There is no good way to do what you're doing.

  • "text-to-speech" problem in Yosemite (very annoying) - "object replacement character"

After upgrading to Yosemite, yesterday, I have problems reading websides and documents in my Mac with text-to-speech.
I'm slightly dyslexic and prefer text-to-speech instead of reading myself.
All documents that have illustrations give problems with text-to-speech.
Whenever the text overlaps an (I think...) invisible lay-out feature that has to do with illustrations I hear "Object Replacement Character".
That makes many texts "unreadable" for me...
Is there anyone with the same problem?
Can someone help me to get rid of this?
It makes text-to-speech practically useless for me...
    Big problem!
    Jur Kuipers, The Netherlands
    iMac (27-inch Mid 2010), OS X Yosemite 10.10

Perhaps I have to tweak some settings in "VoiceOver-Program" after selecting "Alex" in System Preferences?
I cannot understand why Alex gives errors and my Dutch voices are not..., my VoiceOver-settings with these different voices are the same...
VoiceOver is complicated (many settings and difficult interface) , perhaps someone knows what to do ???

  • Text to speech problems

I have my Mac announce the time every 1/4 hour in Japanese. The first problem is that it's saying "it's" before the time... for example "it's go ji ju go fun" but with the Japanese accent, it sounds (oddly enough) like the Japanese word for "when." The second problem is that it is saying "o'clock" in a Japanese accent (sounds like "oku roku" after the hour-number).
In order to provide replicateable examples of what I'm talking about: Using OS 10.7.1, grab the "Kyoko" text to speech voice and set the Date & Time system preference to announce the time every 1/4 hour with the custom voice set to Kyoko.  If you don't have the rest of your Mac language settings as Japanese, it should ask you if you are sure you want to use a voice that dosen't speak the current system language. Now wait for the next quarter-hour announcement.
I'm also attaching a clip of two examples:
The first clip you will hear is "it's 10:45" which sounds like Itsu Jyu Ji Yon Jyu Go Fun
I want to change into "now is 10:45" (今は10:45) which should sound likeIma wa Jyu Ji Yon Jyu Go Fun
The second clip is "it's 4:00" which sounds like Itsu Yon Oku Roku
This would, ideally, be "now is 4:00 - period" (今は4:00です。) which should sound like Ima wa Yo Ji Des
I know there must be some way to add an exception the "o'clock" modifier, otherwise the English TTS voices would say something like "it's nine zero zero" I just don't know where to look yet..  and I'm still learning the ins-and-outs of xcode.

Well, at 50 views and no replies to this ticket, I thought it would be helpful to include a sound clip of the problems...
The first clip you will hear is "it's 10:45" which sounds like Itsu Jyu Ji Yon Jyu G   o Fun
I want to change into "now is 10:45" (今は10:45) which should sound like Ima wa Jyu Ji Yon Jyu G   o Fun
The second clip is "it's 4:00" which sounds like Itsu Yon Oku Roku
This would, ideally, be "now is 4:00 - period" (今は4:00です。) which should sound like Ima wa Yo Ji Des.

Hi all, I'm currently using a volume license registered version of Captivate 4. Would like to utilize text-to-speech feature, but whenever I try to enable, a download window pops up, I click it, and it directs me to a "buy captivate 5" webpage. Can anyone provide me with a working URL to download the text-to-speech files for Captivate 4? Also would like instructions on how to proceed after download. Thanks!

  • Text to speech problem/glitch in 10.6.8

    Hello,
I have recently been having problems with my macbook pro running Mac OS X 10.6.8 announcing the time, and more recently I have had a general text to speech problem. It used to annouce the time perfectly every hour, however now whenever the time changes to noon or midnight in announces instead "it is now 12 o *garble" with the garble sounding like the computer glitching or like a cd skipping. That wasnt too big of problem but now it has started to effect my ipod shuffle, and text to speech messes up the pronuciation on about half the songs on it. Does anybody have suggestions or have they dealt with a similiar problem?
    Thanks!

Try some hardware resets first.  This is reseting PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    and resetting SMC (power management)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If that does not help, then it is more likely to be a software issue affecting the overall OS.  It might be a third-party system extension that is causing a conflict, or some system component may have become corrupted since the original installation.  System extensions are installed here
    <startup volume>/System/Library/Extensions/
but it is often difficult to see anything that is obviously wrong.  If you see anything listed that is obviously for hardware or software that you no longer use, you can try removing it.
Short of doing a complete re-install of Mac OS X, it may help to apply the 10.6.8 "combo" update manually.  This will re-install all the system components that have been updated since the initial 10.6 release.  It can sometimes fix mysterious problems that are difficult to diagnose precisely.  This is the combo updater for 10.6.8.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
NOTE:  Before doing a system update, you should have a good backup.  If you have been using Time Machine, that will serve as your backup.  Things can go wrong during system updates, and you don't want to end up with an unbootable system, with no backup.

    > No, XP 64bit.
    64-bit might be a problem... I don't think CP is fully 64-bit
    compatible
yet, and the TTS engine is produced by a third party, so I
    don;t know if it
    supports 64-bit either.

  • Problems installing german text-to-speech package ...

    Hi guys,
recently, I bought the new Navigator 6710. Everything works fine, except for the missing text-to-speech package in German. So I decided to download and install it via cellphone and PC. Neither of those options were successful. The installation finishes stating "Installation successful", yet there is no new entry for the German voice (e.g. Jürgen or Nicole).
I was quite desperately looking for an answer so far, but wasn't able to find one, yet. I hope you guys are able to help me findig a solution.
    Thanks in advance,
    Freddy

Thank you Vikram, you helped me a lot.
So i only have to install the text to speech products and their voices are then available in captivate?
Does anyone has experience with such programs or knows voices that sound really good. I like the voice of Stefan from Loquendo.
But i don't find where to buy it and the serviceteam didn't respond.
