I recently did a factory restore because pc got a virus could only start up in safe mode but not do much. I copied my documents and files from my hd to a portable hd now i cant open any of the files it says they are encrypted i never had this issue before and it has all the stuff i rescued from my hd before it was wiped back to factory settings any ideas please help

Welcome to the Nokia Support Discussions! After you have created a back up, you can't view the files you backed up with any Nokia program. If you use some other program to open the backup file, it is your own responsibility if something happens to the back up.
Here are the instructions how the backup process goes. You can find the path to the backup file in Nokia Suite by going to Tools > Options > Devices.

Opening backed up file on desk top

I downloaded the desktop software yesterday in order to back up the info from my 9330 Curve. I want to retrieve a text conversation in it's entirety and print it instead of sending each segment to my e-mail account. When I click on the icon in my documents the computer doesn't know how to open the file, whether to use windows word etc.. What do I check when I browse the list of possibilities? Am I going to be able to view all of my texts when the file eventually opens? I have saved each message.
If not is there another way to obtain an entire text conversation other than e-mailing each segment to my e-mail?

The only application that can read the Backup (*.IPD) file is the BlackBerry Desktop Software. The only device that can use the backup file (database information) is a BlackBerry device with the BlackBerry operating system loaded or a virtual device.
Not saying there isn't a 3rd party application that was created to do so, but none that are supported by RIM

How do you use a specific program to open a specific file in java?

I want to use java to create a program that users get to pick what programs to open a file with and then opens it. For example, the user wants to open a .txt file. We all know that many programs can open that- MSWord, Textpad, Notepad etc. What i want to do is automatically open the file the user chose in a program that he chose. If the user wanted MSWord to open the .txt then MSWord will startup and the user should see the file. Samething applies for other programs. Anyone know how to implement this in java? I know you can open executibles but these arent those types... Thanks!

And then you still need - at least in Windows - register all of your files to be opened with your program so it can relay that call.
Frankly, I think I'd hate your program, ahving to make a chioce every time I want to open a file... I mean, how often does it happen that you want to open a file with any other program than the one you usually use? And Windows still has the "Open with..." dialog as well, if I really want to pick something else.

How do I not make Illustrator or any Adobe CC program the default program when opening an AI files?

Its kinda like this, at my workplace, we tried Adobe CC for a year and then the managers decided to go back to using Adobe CS6. Right now my problem is that, anytime I tried to open any AI files, the "Renew your subscription" window appears. How do I make that any Ai files can be opened with the Adobe CS6 and not the CC.
The reason I ask this because sometimes when u work, there is a smart object inside and when I wanna go to that specific smart object (which is Illustrator), the validation thingy appears so I can't edit the content.

Larry's right, mec_os. I spent some very frustrating time trying to get that particular solution to work. I'm thinking seriously about uninstalling CS6.x for Illustrator and InDesign to solve this problem. I hate it when OS developers think we all want the computer to do our thinking for us. I'm geting really tired of all the "helpful" features that keep getting added on. That's my rant for today, folks!

Cannot change the default program to open a specific file type.

Whenever I attempt to change the default program to open a file, it automatically reverts to whatever was selected previously.
I work with a lot of .ai files and my default Illustrator version is set to Creative Cloud. CC crashes constatnly on my machine, however CS6 runs smooth as silk. I'd like to be able to double click an .ai file and have it open in CS6, not CC. When I right click > Get Info > Open with and change it, it reverts as soon as I click "Change all..."
This isn't a huge deal... only takes a few seconds out of my day but it isn't something I should have to worry about.
Any suggestions?

I just successfully changed on my .docx to open into Pages. I went the same route that you mentioned... Right click---> Get Info---> Open With and changed it to Pages. When I clicked Change All, a dialog came up asking me if I am sure that I want to change all of my .docx to open in Pages. I click accept and tested it. Now my .docx open in Pages.
So my question is, is your issue just applying to .ai files? Or is affecting other files, such as .docx? If it's just affecting .ai files, then there maybe an underlying reason for that. And it may not be able to be changed.
Just a thought.

Augh.... I bought this program to open an Excel file

I own an older version of Microsoft Excel (2004).... I am working on a job and the employeer wants me to work on their excel project. My version of Excel opens the document, but doesn't add the cells properly. I figured I would buy Numbers which I was told will open Excel files rather than buy a new version of Excel. When I try to open the .xls file I get the follwing error.."Import error.... an unknown error occured"
What am I doing wrong?

Well, from a vantage point behind you, looking over your shoulder, I might be able to see 'what you are doing.' From here, I have to rely on your description of 'what you are doing,'
"When I try to open the .xls file..." suggests the result you want to achieve, but says nothing regarding your actions to achieve this result.
The error message may mean that this particular Excel document uses Excel features not supported by Numbers.
You could try opening it using OpenOffice.org, or one of its offshoots, NeoOffice or LibreOffice. The last one, (available at libreoffice.org ) has been receiving the mosrt positive comments here recently.

knowing the type of the files that you want to convert is interesting :
- if there are text/spreadsheet/presentation files, iWork'09 may be able to convert them,
- if there are graphic vector files, there exists some commercial solutions : EazyDraw Retro ( http://www.eazydraw.com/appleWorks.htm ), Intaglio which can give good or less good results
Concerning LibreOffice, normally, the LibreOffice 4.3 tries to convert all AppleWorks/ClarisWorks documents ( excepted the presentation files ), the result can be good or not ( this depends on the complexity of the original documents, ...) :-~

- if your documents do not contain ant confidential data, seeing some of them may interest me to see what happens with the LibreOffice's filter : check if some parts of the documents are not parsed, ...

Cannot open back-up file on my pc

Problem: Cannot open my file with backed-up contacts on my PC.
I copied my contacts from my BB Pearl 9100/9105 to my PC. When I try to open the file I get the following message:" Windows can't open Blackberry Pearl 9100-9105 (11-7-2013.bbb. Windows needs to know what program you want to use to open it.
! There is a "padlock" nest to the file name.!

It did connect successfully with the BB software and my contacts were transferred to a file in my C drive. However, I cannot open this file, that is the problem.

USING TOOLS-OPTIONS- APPLICATION BRINGS UP THE PANEL TO SELECT PROGRAMS FOR EACH FILE TYPE. SELECTING "USE OTHER" BRINGS ANOTHER PANEL WITH VARIOUS OPTIONS. NONE OF THESE ARE APPROPRIATE FOR MY SITUATION. AS SOON AS I CLICK "BROWSE" FIREFOX CRASHES. THE SAME THING HAPPENS IF I SELECT AN ATTACHMENT FROM AN EMAIL AND TRY TO CHANGE THE ASSOCIATED PROGRAM BY USING "BROWSE" TO FIND AN APPROPRIATE PROGRAM.

You can uninstall (remove) the Java Console extensions and disable the Java Quick Starter extension, you do not need them to run Java applets.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

Are there any programs that open up unix files on Macbook Pro?

I run files that with all sorts of extensions like .eprt, .drw, .step, etc. I have tried using The Unarchiver - a free program available at the App Store.

The UnArchiver is a program that uncompresses files bascially, it won't run the files themselves.
For that you will need to investigate the extension and what program can address that file type, then if there is a program version for OS X that will open that file type.

You must have BB desktop Mananger for for that. Run the Desktop Mananger, Goto Device, Restore and select advance, Now there you can see your number conatcts.

Setting Photoshop CC 2014 as my "Default Program" to open JPEG files in Windows 7

I just installed Photoshop CC 2014 on my Windows 7 computer. I had set Photoshop as my "Default Program" to open up JPEG files. Now whenever I double-click a JPEG file, Photoshop CC will launch instead of Photoshop CC 2014. I have noticed that the executable files for all versions of Photoshop are "Photoshop.exe" (no wonder Windows gets confused). If I changed the name of the executable file for Photoshop CC 2014 to something like "Photoshop2014.exe" then Windows will let me choose the program as my "Default Program" to open up a JPEG, however this makes it impossible for me to open up files in Lightroom. Lightroom will default back to Photoshop CC.
I have changed the name of the executable file for Photoshop CC 2014 back to "Photoshop.exe" and renamed all the executable files for my legacy versions of Photoshop. This still does not work.
Do I need to make some types of change in the registry?

Just change the directory to the correct EXE for cc 2014 and you should be good.

Here is a registy fix for Win7 machines to the file association problem.

I installed Photoshop CS6, then found CS5 was still there. I thought, hey, I don't need CS5 anymore, so I uninstalled CS5. then I found out that Photoshop was no longer available in 'Open with' when right-clicking an image...
So I went into the Registry, HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\Photoshop.exe\shell\open\command, and changed the (Default) from "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 Bit)\Photoshop.exe" "%1" to "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\Photoshop.exe" "%1" (so changed CS5 to CS6) - and now I see 'Adobe Photoshop CS6' in my 'Open with' list when right-clicking an image...
