I'm trying to download an update to Acrobat 8 Standard. I can't get past the page that tells me I need a newer browser in order to download an update to Acrobat XI Standard. I do have a newer browser -- how do I accomplish this download???

Use a different browser. This error seems to come up for the latest version of IE, so use a different browser than IE.

HELP - Dial Up Download Question from a Mac Mini Tiger OS X 10.4.6 Newbee??

There are hugh download files (133 Mb for 10.4.7 for example) that appeared when I ran Software update the first day I got my Mini. This would require 10 to 12 hours download on my Juno account. One solution I saw in these forums was to have a neighbor with High Speed connection download and burn a disc. My NEWBEE question is... Can you go to the Apple OS X download page and successfully download the 10.4.7 update (and others) using a Windows machine with Windows software?? Then have that Windows PC burn a disc that can transfer the update to my Mini?? I'm breaking new ground in my neighborhood and appear to be the only one with a Mac. Thanks to you and Sig for the response. We have NO APPLE STORE/OUTLET within a four hour drive, therefore your input that a PC can burn the disc is the best alternative I have. BUT what do you mean by a "hybrid" data CD? I'm a NEWBEE, so could you give me a little more specifics, i.e., what package/brand & model should I buy? I was thinking any CD-ROM would work! Oracle 9i AS Portal download questions

I read the installation guide for Oracle 9iAS (the guide for all of AS, not just the Portal component). I have some questions that were not addressed in the documentation.
1) Do you need to download the entire Oracle9i Application Server in order to download and access the Oracle Portal component? I understand there's three levels of downloads (minimal, standard, and enterprise), and that even the minimal edition contains Oracle 9iAS. However, I was hoping to minimize space and memory required when working with Oracle Portal. (I just need to configure databases and manage database security, both of which can be done using Oracle Portal.)
2) I already have Microsoft Peer Web Services installed on my computer. (That's the development environment in which you can test Cold Fusion and ASP code.) Will this conflict with the Oracle 9iAS, since both are servers that may affect, or be affected by, network configurations - even if they're both in a local, standalone test environment?
(I can't just remove PWS since I do need it for testing Cold Fusion and/or ASP development code.)
3) I understand that in order to download Oracle 9iAS, I need to already have access to an Oracle database. What mimimum version of Oracle do I need to be working with? The installation guide states that I can find out more information about database requirements at http://metalink.oracle.com. However, I can't even register for this site in order to access it, because it requires a "Support Identifier (CSI, SAC, Access Code etc.)" However, the CSI for the company where I work has expired - so I can't access that area for info.
It seems that I may need to use Oracle 8i. I just downloaded the Installation Guide for the Oracle 8i Personal Edition. Would that be sufficient to work with a standalone (personal edition/evaluation copy) of Oracle9i AS?

1)Portal is an integrated component of 9iAS. You need to download all of 9iAS and select the minimal install option.
2)We haven't tested this configuration, but as long as you set up apache appropriately to use different ports than the existing software it should work.
3)Portal requires 8.1.6.2 Enterprise edition or 8.1.7 Standard edition. Personal Edition will not work.

Servlet controlled download question

I've written a servlet that will extract my file from the database and prompt the client browser with a "Save As" prompt. So far so good.
The problem I'm having is that for the file name, the browser is using the name of the servlet (say Example.do" as the file name.
So the box shows the following
Filename : Example
File Type:
From: www.examplehost.com
So my question is how to I get the correct file name to show up, and get the file type field populated. I'm trying to get this to work for the IE 5 browsers.
The headers are being set as follows:
response.setContentType("application/x-download; name=\"" + fileName + "\"");
response.setHeader("Content-Disposition","attachment; filename=" + fileName + ";");

That problem is due to the fact that the browser sets the name of the file equal to the request.
There are two solutions i can imagine :
- Place the file in a public place (Where you have your jsp and such) :
Cons : Anyone that knows the file is there may get it.
A big security error, specially if the file is confidencial.
Pros : The file name will be the correct one.
- Use an applet that connects to the servlet :
Cons : It may take too long to load
Many ppl don't like applets running on they're machine
pros : You may create you own progress bar, with percentage and everything;
You control the time it takes and the speed you wish it to use;
The best of all, You may copy the file into a temp dir and then transfer it to the dest dir with the name you wish or the user wishes.

Oracle 8i download question

This is sort of a dumb question but my ethernet card is broken so I'm trying to download the 8i zip file and it downloads maybe 2 megs of the approximatly 300 meg file and then says download successful??? Any ideas. I'm assuming I'm just getting cut off because of a bad phone line...I'm going to keep trying...

Get one download manager like Getright to resume broken doenloads and download the software in segments. Also I guess Ethernet Cards are no longer an expensive component as I am sure, downloading the full software is a time consuming task unless u have huge and Free bandwidth.

CC Download question...

I am new to CC, and have one question.
Do I have to download the applications on the PC where I will be installing them, or can I use another PC to log onto CC, somewhere else (with faster internet connection) instead and just tranfer install files to the proper PC?

ODM/BI Download Question

I am a professor at a University with an Oracle site license. I have found several references to Oracle Data Miner (the GUI as I understand it), a few to Oracle Data Mining (the underlying engine I presume), but none to a download for ODMining.
Is ODMining a part of BI? Would/could someone point me to the appropriate link for download or to an email or phone number to ask for an eval copy? Do I have to throw a patch on top of this?
I can't find a thread with this question, I apologize if I missed it.

Oracle Data Mining option to the RDBMS includes all of the packages within the database for the application of data mining. Data Miner, as you said, is a GUI that allows you to select and transform data and create/apply models of varying data mining algorithms. It can be downloaded from the OTN site here.

Quicktime 7 download question

o.k.... I purchased QT pro thinking I already had QT on my computer... I don't: so I figure'd 'no problem, I'll download QT7 and move on.....
the problem is that when I go to the QT7 download page and click on 'download Quicktime 7' it automatically re-routs you to download QT7 pro....
ALL I want to do is download the free quicktime 7 so I can unlock the key for QT pro, which I already own........
is anybody out there?

never mind: my problems wasn't in purchasing/installing PRO.... it was downloading quicktime 7.....

Ok, this laptop I am using now is breaking and I have a question.
If I wanted to download any videos I bought from iTunes, do I just click check for available downloads or do I need to buy them again? (Note I have 50+ Videos bought)

A Newbie HD Podcast Download Question ... Help Request

I have an 80GB video iPod. I've successfully subscribed to a number of video podcasts and can download/play them without difficulty. However, I'm interested in subscribing to an HD podcast (a London, England landscape podcast that is only published in HD format). For some reason, I keep receiving an error message that indicates that I can't play this on my iPod ... so it doesn't download. Am I doing something wrong or are these simply not compatible with my iPod? Thanks for any help you can offer up!

While I'm a stout supporter of DW, it's recordset functions are sorely lacking and you will do yourself a huge favor by learning how to write the query yourself. In this scenario you need to run a query with the WHERE statement of "WHERE {id user selects} = AlbumID". That result will return many results, I assume. The way the SQL query works is it returns the value into an array. The following is a tutorial going over the basics of a while loop with SQL queries:

Safari download question ...

this question coming from the perspective of someone more used to windows ... using safari on my mac, if someone sends me a pdf for example, is there a way to open it without downloading it. i can't find a way around it. on my pc i can specify a program to open a file and i can view it without storing it. on the mac my download folder gets filled with lots of that i need to see only once. thanks.

There is a plugin that can be used to view PDFs in Safari (or any other browser on the Mac, basically) instead of downloading them to your downloads folder and launching an external viewer like Preview or Adobe Reader:

However, that plugin has limited capabilities compared to the Adobe Reader or Preview, and I've noticed some quirks using it myself. The thing to note is that no matter how you view a PDF, it's being downloaded to somewhere on your system. When using a plugin, it's in your browser's cache. If you clean your cache regularly, this is not a big deal. With Safari's approach, it is a bit more explicit that you are downloading what is often a fairly large file.

CS5 Bridge Photo Downloader Question

Hello-
Whenever I download NEF files from my Nikon D300 I get two files per image eg. DSC1901.NEF and DSC1901.xmp
I don't understand the purpose of the .xmp file, I've never had this happen using the Nikon software.
If I trash the .xmp I see no change in any processing I do to the original file. This seems to be bothersome to me, can I stop CS5 Photo Downloader from importing the .xmp files? It's a huge amount of extra files to save when I don't access these .xmp's & cumbersome selecting through hundreds of newly downloaded files selecting the NEF's from the .xmp's. How do I stop these .xmp's from showing up in my downloaded NEF folders??? Thanks...

If I buy the Photoshop ELements 11 Download, meaning no hard copy is being sent to me in the mail, can I download it on my two computers? I own both a desktop and a laptop.

It doesnt matter if you have a hard copy or a downloaded copy.
As per the End User License Agreement (EULA), at any given instance you are eligible to install the software on 2 computers.

Dynamic stub downloading question.

It turned out that I've been killing time over and over again when setting up dynamic stubs downloading for RMI implementations.
Wouldn't be it simple if RMI isolates developer from all those steps by
a) creating stubs on the fly when the remote object gets bound and
b) upload them to the client as a part of Naming.lookup() call?
No need to rmic, http-/ftp-/file--server, additional security, etc. Can somebody explain me this or I am missing something here??

I just joined Creative Cloud. Tried to download inDesign to get started....but the download center only makes the trial version of inDesign available. Is this correct, or am I doing something wrong?

Please follow the below given steps to download Indesign and other CC Software.
1. Login on creative.adobe.com
2. Click on Download Center
3. Download Creative Cloud Desktop Application on your computer and install the same.
4. Launch Creative Cloud Desktop Application from your computer and login with your Adobe ID and password.
5. Download the software which you want to install.
After installing the software you can use it as a full version software.
