Download same software update for each user account? is this right?
i am sorry if this is the wrong place, i have looked all over these discussions for help and help is what i need. i downloaded the iphone 3.0 software update on one user account and installed it. then i logged into another user account on the same imac so i could apply that 3.0 update to another iphone and it made me re-download the entire update? is that normal for each individual user to have to download the exact same update separately? it seems like such a waste of time to download the same update two times.

Not sure o the iPhone SW, but much Software has an option to install for all Users or just one... if running from an Admin account.

ThanksManaged preferences are the best bet. You could use Profile Manager or use the mcx command from the command line. I'd strongly suggest browsing over this before delving into MCX though...

why is it when i download the software update for iphone an error pops out when downloading is finish and processing file is being done...i've already tried several time but still the same result.
Disasble the computer's security software during the download and update.

I was downloading the software update for ipod touch 2gen and after it was done downloading it showed that there was an error with my ipod and when i saw it was on the lockscreen loading. its been like this for 4 hours already
What did the error message say?
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Firefox has been unsuccessfully attempting to download a software update for a few days now... What’s the problem?
If you have problems with updating then easiest is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.<br />
You may need to remove the Firefox program folder to do a clean install of the new version.
Do a clean (re-)install:
* Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
* Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
* Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
* Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox. -

You will only find the Software Update option if you have got iOS 5 or newer, and you say you are using iOS 4, so first you need to use iTunes to update your iPad to the most recent version, which is iOS 7.1 > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4623 -
Is it possible to download only Software Updates for multiple Macs.
We currently have two 24inch iMacs, a 15 inch and a 17 inch MacBook Pro and a MacBook and only have limited download speeds in our regional area and only 1 Gb of data download allowance a month. Is there any way we can "download only" software updates on one computer and transfer the update to the other systems in Snow Leopard, like we did in Leopard. This does not appear to be possible in Snow Leopard. For us to upgrade all computers to 10.6.5, we would blow our data allowance for 2.5 months. And this does not take into account all the other updates that are available for installed Apple software. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

well, one way of doing that is to get the stand alone installer packages from [here|http://support.apple.com/downloads>, then either mount the .dmg's from the other Mac(s) or copy the .dmg's over the network.
i actually prefer this over software download - i usually install new software while booted into _*safe mode*_.

Allow application installations and updates for standard user account
Good Afternoon. Is there a way to configure/allow standard, non-admin user accounts to have access to only install applications or update applications? Is there a group those user accounts can be added to via dscl or some other method? Appreciate any help/input. Ideally I would like to grant users this access/option without giving them full administrative rights. Thank you.
When you're prompted for the administrator password, take note of the requested right in the dialog box, download TextWrangler from the developer's website(not the Mac App Store), and use it to edit the /private/etc/authorization file so that those accounts have that right.

I somehow lost the Apple Software Update program on my Windows 7 laptop. Is it needed? if so, where do I find it to download it?
It's possible to keep up to date by downloading installers for new versions of software from the Apple downloads site:

... if your ASU has just been uninstalled, an update using one of those installer bundles would most probably also reinstall ASU.
If your ASU is damaged in some way, however, that can lead to some troubles using the installers downloaded from the downloads site. For example, see the following user tip:
"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package ..." error messages when installing iTunes for Windows
... so it might be worth investigating a repair install of ASU (as per the instructions in that user tip), if you've got iTunes installed and want to keep that up to date. -
I download latest updates for itunes and my iphone, when it comes to installing, it successfully downloads, but then i get a message for iphone software error=1403 file corrupted, and for itunes it downloads, then when i try to install it a message says unable to install software, file maybe corrupted!!
The iTunes update must be downloaded and installed before you try and use it to update the iPhone OS
Download iTunes 10.2.2 from here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1103
When it completes it will auto mount the disc image and show you the package installer, don't try and do anything with the file until it gets to this stage.
Once that's installed reboot the Mac, run iTunes, connect your iPhone and let it sync, then hit the update button and let it complete that step by itself (which will require a restart of the iPhone) -
Mac extremely slow since recently downloading latest "numbers" software update. Also Mac when put to sleep, will now wake up by itself and go back to sleep etc, etc. Please Help!

OK, thanks. First, open Disk Utility and the Repair Disk Permissions on your internal HD. You can find DU in Applications - Utilitie. After doing so please restart in Safe Mode, this is easily done by holding down the Shift Key on your keyboard when you hear the start up tone, you will see a progress bar appear letting yuo know it's starting in Safe Mode. Then reset the SMC and PRAM, instructions can be found by clicking iMac SMC and PRAM reset. Then retest. -

MacBook Air 2012 and 2013 have different hardware, the update only applies to 2012. Nothing wrong with yours. If it says it's only for 2012 then it won't work on 2013.

after downloading mountain lion my other two users are unable to access i tunes /or apps store . There seems to be alot of "querky" thing that have become a problem useing since this download ,has anyone had similare problems?
Don't quote me on this, but I think that the rules may have changed for Mountain Lion and you may need either 2 matching pairs or at least matching modules installed in both bottom slots.

Hold down the power button until the screen goes black.
Wait about ten seconds then restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys.
From there you should be able to access the built in utilities to verify and repair the startup disk if necessary and reinstall OS X. (10.10.1) -
The problem is that im getting an error saying time out!!! and when i start downloading again it starts from zero!!
Their alternative option is for you to bring it into the store
You could google and look for some download helpers (presuming they still exist, haven't used them in years) but they're freeware or adware that caches your download to help you recover from timeouts.
the timeout is possibly caused by your ISP, if they regularly cycle routers or the such it 'burps' your connection causeing it to cut out.
You might try taking your laptop to your local library which may have wifi. Or, as the others have suggested, a friend's house with cable internet.
