Download Save or Open-Is it possible in Safari

Is it possible in Safari to launch an application when downloading something instead of saving it to the desktop. On windows computers you can choose to save a document or open it and launch the app from safari. Is this possible with Safari.
Thanks
-JW

I, for one, don't want my downloaded files to be opened by any app until I check them out.
Since all it takes is a double click on the download (after I've scanned the file) or a Control-click and choose my Open With app, I don't see this as any inconvenience.
You can set Safari to open "Safe" files after they download (I recommend not) in its preferences.
It would also only use the default Open With app (Finder Get Info settings for the file extension). Many times I choose to use other apps to open a download.

While downloading the file i didn't selected the save option instead i gave open with(winrar) option. I have some other rar files to combine with this file. So after the completion of this partial downloaded rar file is not saved in my system. How can i recover it.

    hi,
    Thanks for ur reply.
But i already searched the windows and looked for that file.. But its not anywhere to be found. See first while downloading i gave the open option instead of save. So after the completion of the download the file opened automatically in winRAR. I tried to extract that file then it gave me some error. After that i closed the winrar and searched for that file in windows with search option but its not seen anywhere.
    Thanks n regards,

  • How do I change my default save or open of downloads

At the moment my downloads just get opened as a read-only file, I want to have them saved and opened automatically, is that do-able?

Flies that you open with another application are saved as read-only for your protection. If you want to modify them then you need to use "Save as" in that application and save them under a different name. If you would save them under the same name then your edits can get lost if that temp file is removed after closing the editor.

does it shop up when you try the following?:
go to ''firefox > help > troubleshooting information'', click on ''profile folder/show folder'' and close all firefox windows afterwards. a windows explorer window should open up - in there rename/delete the file named '''mimetypes.rdf''' - it will be regenerated again the next time you launch the browser.

    (1) You access the WWW using an a browser. The default browser in Mac OS X is Safari; however, you can use any other compatible browser you choose (eg, Firefox, Chrome).
    (2) What a browser does with a document from the WWW depends on its settings and capabilities. If it has the capability to display it, it usually does so; if it can't display it, it usually saves it to disk, that is, to a folder (not a 'tab'), which you can access in Finder.
    (3) Mac browsers do not have the capability of displaying MS Word documents (you may be thinking of IE on Win, which can be configured to 'host' MS Office docs).
    (4) However, you may configure some browsers to download a Word doc and then automatically launch MS Word and open that document.  Mind you, I don't think it's a very wise or prudent thing to do. It is not possible in Safari, but it is perfectly possible in Firefox.
Go to a link to a .doc or .docx file and click on it. If it's the first time you do it, Firefox will ask you what to do with it in a dialogue like this one:
    <http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Managing%20file%20types#w_adding-download-ac tions>
If MS Word is installed on your machine, it will be already chosen as the application to open the file. Confirm it, and from now on, when using Firefox, after downloading, such files will automatically open in MS Word. If you want to change this behaviour, you go to Firefox > Preferences… > Applications, as described earlier in the same help file.

  • Can I save and open an attachemnt at the same time?

I want to be able to open an email with an attachement or attachments and click on the save button for the attachment(s), designate the location (folder) where they are to be saved - but also tell Mail to save the attachments then open them up on the desktop. Two operations in one. If you understand my request you understand what you have to do now - two separate steps. Save. Then find the saved files and open them.
    OR
Open the attachment from the email which then downloads the file to your designated "all-purpose" location (not the ultimate location you'd want to save it). Then once you've seen it, you do the save thing with the original mail attachment and then have to go back and delete the file from the designated all-purpose download location.
This latter problem of having to delete unedited downloads manually could be solved with an option in Mail preferences to automatically delete unedited downloads in the "all-purpose" location after that same attachment had been downloaded to another specific location on your hard drive. This option for deleting unedited downloads does not exist, however.
But even if this step-saver option existed in the preferences, you still would not be able to tell your Mac to save a particular Mail email attachment to a particular folder AND open that attachment at the same time in one command.
    That's what I want.
Maybe I want both. Save and open together plus the ability to automatically delete unedited attachment downloads in the "all-purpose" download file after the same attachment has been downloaded to another specific location on your hard drive.

with IOS 6 yes you will be able to do that

  • Error trapping for 'Save' dialog open?

I'm writing a program which will do an extensive amount of work in Photoshop, and I'm trying to make sure it's as idiot-proof as possible. Before starting the image editing code, I want to make sure the user hasn't left any dialogs open in Photoshop, so I can show them a warning and cancel the application. I have found that attempting to get any properties of the application (e.g. version, document count, build, etc.) will throw an error if the user has the 'Open' dialog showing, but if they have the 'Save' dialog open, there is no error. Is there any reliable way to determine if the user has left Photoshop in a state where it will cause problems executing code?
My script is currently written in Applescript, but will hopefully be someday rewritten in Javascript, so I'd be interested in any suggestions in either language with preference leaning towards Javascript.

Well, they just keep on amazing me. And it doesn't seem like they went to any great lengths to do so either.
During this 'exercise' I just kept thinking I'd eventually find something that would throw an error while the dialog was up...
"Well, I shouldn't be able to do _____."
"...well, I certainly won't be able to do _____..."
"...ok, there's absolutely no way I would be able to ____."
...I thought being able to alter the document was bad enough - but you can even CLOSE the document you are trying to save from an external script!! ...and you are guaranteed a crash when you click the 'save' button at that point.
The only thing I have come across so far which doesn't seem to work with the save as dialog open is opening another document. And even that doesn't throw an error - it just hangs the script (no change with 'try/on error...", no change with 'with timeout...")
...oh, well. It's almost 5:00 on a Friday. I think I'll just go home feeling defeated.

My Generated Spool request is PDF Spool. It contains Adobe Forms data. To Download Adobe form
Spool (PDF Spool) into PDF format,
    First,
    A)     Read PDF Spool data by using u2018FPCOMP_CREATE_PDF_FROM_SPOOLu2019 Function module.
    B)     Assign the Output Data to XSTRING format
    C)     Convert that XSTRING data to Binary Format using 'SCMS_XSTRING_TO_BINARY' Function module.
    D)     Save File on Application server using OPEN DATASET , TRANSFER , CLOSE DATASET.You can see your

  • How to view adobe flash? how to save pdf opened in safari?

I am new user on vista.
Safari is cool. got addicted but have toughtime getting used to it.
    1. Flash files won't run. Adobe do not have flash plugin for safari
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/8869854@N04/545930914/ for reference
    2. PDFs open in Safari with no option to save the downloaded files
I am sure mac pros would have found a way. Let me know
Dell Inspiron 6400   Windows Vista   Ultimate Edition

    1. Flash plugin can be downloaded from apple at <http://www.apple.com/safari/download/plugins.html>
    2. There's also a Acrobat Reader plugin at the page mentioned above. With this, a 'Save a copy' button is displayed in the acrobat toolbar. On osx with builtin pdfviewer, a right-click on the pdf will show a menu with the option to save it.
Don't forget to restart after installing the plugins

  • Launching Microsoft Access from Internet Explorer to view a downloaded MDB file opens the wrong file (not a problem if I use Firefox)

When clicking on a link (in Internet Explorer 9) to download an Access MDB file and then choosing to open the file directly in Microsoft Access (2007) instead of saving it, the file is copied to Temporary Internet Files but Microsoft Access tries to open
a different file and displays an (Unrecognized database format) error.
When I click on the option to open the file, the MDB file is copied to Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5 but instead of that file, Access tries to open a different (incorrect) file located in Temporary Internet Files\Content.MSO (e.g. in the above error
message, NativeView.do is an XML file containing an error message).
I don't see this problem with Word, Excel or PowerPoint files. When opening a Word file (without saving) the Word file is copied to Content.IE5 but an identical .tmp file is created in Content.MSO which when opened in Microsoft Word displayed the required file
correctly. The same happens for Excel files. PowerPoint appears to be handled a little differently (no .tmp file created in Content.MSO but the required file is still copied to Content.IE5) but the PPT file is still opened correctly in Microsoft PowerPoint.
I think the Content-Type "application/msaccess" is fine because Internet Explorer does launch Microsoft Access. It just tries to open the wrong file (or so I think). However, it looks like the file type is not being determined. Here is what I noticed
when trying to open different Microsoft Office files using Internet Explorer:
The last one is the MDB file. As you can see, only for this type of file, the "Type" (Microsoft Office Access 2007?) is not displayed in this Open/Save dialog box.
On Firefox, I don't see this problem. When I tried clicking on the link to the MDB file in Firefox, Microsoft Access was launched and the file was opened correctly. Is there something I can do so the MDB file is opened properly using IE? I can add/change headers
in the HTTP response that writes this file to the output stream (on disk) if that helps.
    Thanks for your time!

Sounds like a problem symptom to be discussed in either an IE forum or an Access forum, not here.  How did you come to post here?  ForumsRedesign.  That might be an on-topic issue for this forum.  <eg>
Can you find your way to either of those other forums easily from here?  Another on-topic question for here I think.   ; )

  • PDFs always download rather than open from a browser

Since upgrading to Leopard the behavior of opening PDF files has changed and I cannot figure out how to reverse it. Before, opening a PDF in Safari or Firefox would download the file then open it automatically. I can't remember, but it may have given me both a choice to download or to open. Now I just get a download option. So I save it somewhere, then have to open it. Can anyone help me with how I can get back to opening PDFs directly when they are attached in Safari or Firefox? My default for PDFs is already set to Preview.

I don't use Safari much. I'm using FireFox, now in version 3 Release Candidate 1. It's working perfectly for me.
I'm using a Add-On named *PDF Download*. It's available thru the FireFox extensions site or here: http://www.pdfdownload.org/
It's giving me full control of PDF viewing/downloading and lets me change my prefs from a new entry it creates in the Tools menu on FireFox.

  • Downloadable .tiff files open in quicktime, not as an image file: using mac

    I am using a Mac 10.6.3 and

downloadable .tiff files open in firefox quicktime, not as image files, nor do they let me choose how to download or where to save or as what type of file.

    Hello andrea,
You can tell Firefox to ask you where to store your download files by changing the Firefox "Preferences". You can get the instructions on how to do it in this article: [[Downloads window]].
I would advise you to download tiff files as tiff files only otherwise they may become unviewable.
Now, to open your tiff files as images, you can change the settings on your Mac computer as follows:
#Select the tiff image that you downloaded.
#Right click on it and select "Get info"
#A windows will pop up. In this window, select the "Open with" item. Under this item, select "Preview" or any other image viewer application that you want to use.
#Next, click on the "Change All.." button. Click "Continue" in the message that is shown.
That's all. Now, your tiff files will open as images in the application that you just selected
Hope this solves your problem !
