Download SD version of HD movie

Ever since ios 7.1 on my ipad (4th gen), I can no longer download SD versions of movies I've purchased in itunes.  Before ios 7.1, you could search for the movie you purchased, tap the SD button next to the HD button which would be highlighted by default, and then you would be presented with a DOWNLOAD button.  Now, I am presented with a WATCH button that takes me to my "Purchased" list of movies.  In there, there is no longer any option to select SD.  I can only download an HD version.  Does anyone know how to do this on an ipad since ios 7.1 has changed it?

I stand corrected.  I still have the probem.  After upgrading to 7.1.1 I randomly selected a movie to see if the feature was back and it was, for that specific movie.  If you acutally search out the movie in the iTunes store, rather than going to the "purchased" section, you will see (at least for me) the ability to download SD versions of some movies. I can't seem to find any pattern to what can or cannot be done. Is it movies purchased in iTunes, or Digital copies, or certian movie houses? I suspect it has somthing to do with the license, but cannot say for sure. :-(

  • Can't download SD version of HD movie

I bought The Avengers in HD.  I want to download it to my 3rd Gen iPod Touch (so I need the SD version).  I know I have done this in the past.  I am using iTunes 11 and when I go to download the movie on the iPod Touch, instead of the cloud icon I see "Dow" and it is greyed out.
I tried downloadin the SD version to my computer by changing the Video Quality to SD (right click) but then when I click the cloud download icon, it says I have already purchased the item and to invoke 'check for available downloads'.  I know I could download the HD version by setting the quality back but how do I get the SD version???

You know I am going to bump this.
Used to be you got with or without iTunes Extras and SD copy with the HD copy of you're preferece, 720 or 1080. Now If you wanted to in the last one you could actually pick your preferece say you had all the 1080 and then go back in and set the pref for 720 and get the copy at that level too for say older apple tvs that should have been 1080 all along . .
I just got 2 movies today and all I got was the 1080 HD copy. I need standard def for a few older devices, where on earth can I see my past purcahses in itunes 11 to get the SD copy I need.
Also where can we set this to do both again?

  • A few days ago my TV show and movie displays went whacky-the shows are no longer in alpha order, there are multiple listings of the same show, the pictures are random-including album covers.  I downloaded latest version.  Any ideas??

    ME TOO.
I think mine are all still in alphabetical order, but :
    * movies I deleted from my library and told "hide this purchase in the cloud" are showing up again. If I try to play them, I get the "cannot find the file in its proper location, would you like to locate it" error message.
    * for movies that have "iTunes Extras," the extras show up as a separate item, with another copy of the movie artwork. Most of these I believe I had DELETED the "iTunes Extras" anyway.
    * Items are showing up multiple times.
    * A few MUSIC ALBUMS are listed in my Movies section.
    * Some movies (I believe ones that I deleted off my HD but are still in the cloud) are showing random album covers instead of their proper artwork.
    * Just rented a movie, and it didn't show up anywhere in my library. It downloaded properly and completely, was in a suitably labeled folder in my iTunes/Media/Movies section, but didn't show up in any section of the library (or via a library search). Had to manually find it and tell it to open the file using iTunes.
Running the latest version, even checked for updates. No other changes made lately since the last round of apple software updates. This was wonky before the latest small update to iTunes - now it's even wonkier. And it is very, VERY effing annoying.

  • TS3354 I downloaded a HD and SD version of the movie and can't play it on my 1st generation Apple TV

I bought a HD version of a movie and it won't play on my 720 p TV or WIndows PC, then I went back and re-downloaded the SD version of the movie. Now the SD version will play on my Windows computer, but it still won't play on my 1st generation Apple TV.

AppleTV1 can sync with 1 iTunes library - the top one listed in Settings>Computers.
Other libraries are 'shared' or streaming only, and appear under the top entry.
You basically need to remove the current iTunes library from AppleTV - select it and remove it - then adfd it again as the to 'sync' compuetr entry.
NOTE - changing the sync liubrary wipes AppleTV of data though apparently it does not delete items not yet reverse synced to iTunes.  If it buggers up contact iTunes store support.

  • Downloading both the HD and SD versions of a movie

Usually when I purchase an HD movie, I get both an HD and an SD version.  That's good because a familiy member has an older ipod that only plays the SD versions.  However, for the Bee movie, when I made the purchase, I only got the HD version.  They seel and SD version in the movie store, so I know that both exist.  When I go to the "purchased" section of the iTunes store, it says that the Bee movie is Downloaded.
How do I download the SD version of the movie so that I have both?

You can redownload it anyway. If you are unable to, contact support:

  • TS4223 I accidentally bought the HD version of a movie for my daughter's iPod nano (it can't be watched on the Nano).  So I'm trying to figure out how to re-download the SD version.  do I have to pay for the lower version??

I accidentally bought the HD version of a movie for my daughter's nano. you can't watch HD on a nano.  So I'm trying to figure out how to re-download the SD version.  This help screen makes it seem like you can just correct the problem and just "download" the lower version.  But when I follow the steps, I basically get to where I'm just having to actually purchase the other version.  Do I have to pay to get the lower quality version after I've already paid for the HD version?

When you purchase an HD movie or show, in most cases the SD copy can be downloaded from your purchases area in iTunes. On the main iTunes Store page, go to Purchases under the Quick Links and then select Movies or TV shows as appropraite. Click the "Not On This Computer" button. Uncheck the "Download HD when available" box and you should then see the SD copies of the movies/shows and be able to download them.
Note that with digital copies from a Blu-Ray or DVD, if it comes with an HD copy, you normally cannot get the SD copy as well and have to purchase it separately if you want it.
    Regards.

  • I have downloaded the HD version of a movie from itunes, but when I sync it to my iPad 2 it will not play. It appears that it is on the iPad, but it will not play. Is this because it is HD, and if so is there a way to change it from being HD? Thanks

I'm having a similar problem ... just used my iPad 2 to purchase the Bourne trilogy and it downloaded fine but I did not try to play it right away.  Then I plugged the iPad into the computer and it downloaded the SD versions of the movie and I used iTunes to sync my movies.  Then I tried to play it and it said it could not open the movie.  I then did a full iPad restore and did a fresh sync and now I get the Cannot Opne pop up.  Did you ever find an answer to your question?

  • I accidentally rented the hd version of a movie on my iPhone 4, and it is too big. How do I cancel the download?

I rented the hd version of a movie on my 8gb iPhone 4, but I wanted the standard version. The hd version is way too big for my iPod, but I can't stop the download, it just says "download error, tap to retry". How do I cancel the hd download so I can rent the SD version? I don't mind losing a few bucks from the original download.

    You double posted.
Open the Video app on the phone, locate the movie, swipe from left to right, hit delete.

  • Is it possible to download both 720p and 1080p versions of a movie?

Is it possible to download both 720p and 1080p versions of a movie purchased from iTunes and keep them both in your iTunes library? I want to watch the 1080p version on my 3rd gen Apple TV and the 720p version on my 4th gen iPod Touch?
So far, I have downloaded 720p versions and the only way I can get 1080p is to delete the 720p version I have and then redownload the 1080p from the cloud.  I want to keep the 720p version and also have the 1080p version.

I ended up getting the proper response from iTunes Support. I forgot to share it with everyone else. Here is how you download both versions of the videos:
iTunes only lets you download one version of a video at a time. As a work around, I would like you to try the following:
    - Download the 1080p version of the video first
    - Then remove the 1080p version of the video from your iTunes library and save it somewhere else on your computer.
    - Now that you have removed the 1080p version go to the iTunes > Preferences > Store
    - Change the HD version "when downloading HD videos, prefer."  to  720p
    - Go to purchase page, the 720p version should download.

  • Can't download new HD movie (bought bundle) after downloading SD version previously

I previously bought Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon Blu-Ray, and download the SD version of the movie.  I just bought the new Transformers movie bundle (HD) hoping to download all of them in HD, but it won't allow me to download Transformers Dark Side in HD. Since I bought the HD bundle, doesn't that qualify me to download the HD version?

Newer H.264 encoded video requires more computer power (and a good video card).
Our G3 machines just can't keep up. Even most of Tiger's "eye candy" will not display on your G3.
Avoid QuickTime content that says "HD" in its name or uses H.264 video. Nothing is wrong with your older iMac. It's just under powered.

  • I hate iTunes.  It continues to download HD versions of movies when I tell it not to.  The movie I want is 4.4 gigs.  I have deleted all my apps and half my songs and still don't have enough space.  iTunes is near impossible to navigate.

I have downloaded Oblivion six times and it continues to bring the HD version.  I have unchecked the "Download HD when available" but I continue to get a file that is 4.4 gigs large.
    I hate iTunes.

You purchased the HD version, not the regular version.  It will continue to download the version you bought.  If you want the SD version you have to shell out for it.  Apple doesn't do returns.
Watch your movie.  You can always put other stuff back on later, especially music.

  • Purchased HD Movie, but only able to Download SD version

    Hi,
I have purchased the HD version of "The Town" how ever, Itunes will only download the SD version and does not allow me to download the HD version at all. If I go to the store and look under "Purchased" it is clearly labelled as HD, but when I click the download button the following message appears, and it starts to download the SD version automatically:
"You have already purchased this item."
"You have already purchased this item but it has not been downloaded. To download it, select Check for Available Downloads from the store menu "
I have checked the box "Download HD when available", still nothing.
Has experienced this issue ? untill now, downloading HD versions of movies has been no problem

I came up with a solution on my end, hopefully this will shed some light on the issue.
It seems that in order to activate iTunes in the cloud for your purchase all of the purchases need to be downloaded first.
In my case I had made the original purchase on my iPad but I did not finish downloading it on my iPad based on this, I could not download the purchase to iTunes on my MacBook Pro - Until the download on the iPad where I made the original purchase had been completed.
After finishing the download on my iPad I noticed that the HD version of the movie had now been activated in the cloud.
I feel that this is only the case if the original purchase is made on and iOS device the download must be completed before it is available for download on OSX or iTunes
    Hope this helps

  • Can't find SD version of HD movie purchase.

I've purchased the HD version of 'The grand budapest hotel' movie.
However I can't find a way to download the SD version which should come in addition for free. I've changed my preferences to SD, unchecked the 'download HD version when avaliable' and that changes the icon from HD to SD, however clicking the download button it still wants to download the HD version which is 4GB. The SD version is supposed to be 1.5GB.
Am i doing it wrong or could it be that this movie is one of those combined files which includes SD and HD? When i right click on the movie icon in library it asks me what video quality i want, SD, 720p or 1080p. Thanks for your help.

    Hi baobeiiiiii,
This article will help you download the SD version of your already purchased movie from iTunes -
iTunes: Purchasing and viewing HD videos
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3209
    Specifically -
When you purchase an HD video on a supported device or computer, only the HD video will be downloaded. To download the SD version, you need to download the video again from your Purchased page. Conversely, if you purchase an HD video on an unsupported device, the SD version will be downloaded. Then, you will need to download the HD version from your Purchased page. Learn more about downloading previous purchases.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • My itunes won't work after i downloaded Itunes version 7.6.1

When i downloaded itunes version 7.6.1 it asked me if i wanted it to restart my computer or restart it myself i said restart my self and after i restarted it i looked and the regular icon for itunes wasn't there. it was different and then i tried clicking on it to open it but when i do a box pops up and it says "this action is only valid for products that are currently installed" what does that mean? and how can i fix it so my itunes works?

This one is easy. The shortcut is for the old iTunes, that is why it won't work.
I assume you are using Windows.
If so, go to the bottom left of your screen and click the start button. Go up to programs and hold your cursor over it. A list of all your programs should pop up to the right. Move the curso over to iTunes. There should be an "about iTunes" and an iTunes logo there. Right click on the iTunes logo and click create shortcut (you can also just drag it out to your desktop). That will give you a desktop shortcut for your new version.
