Download size vs installed size strangeness

Targets (1): deluge-1.1.6-1
Total Download Size:    2.25 MB
Total Installed Size:   0.88 MB
1st time I've seen something like that...

That is very weird.  Based on my calculations it should say the installed size is 9.75MB and my calculations used the command that creates this number within makepkg!  So how this is wrong is beyond me...

  • Download size and install size of Build 9879

I am a little short on harddisk space. How much space is needed to download and update to build 9879?

RE : How much space is needed to download and update to build 9879?
The download size will be between around 2 or 3 GB depending upon the computer architecture (32-bit or 64-bit) and system language.
RE : I am a little short on harddisk space
Have you deleted the Windows.old ? You can save up a huge amount of disk space.
    What is windows.old ?
Windows.OLD folder is often created during an upgrade of Microsoft's operating system from one version to another. It contains files from your previous installation of Windows, which were either not required or can't be used with the new version.
You don't need to keep these unless something has gone wrong with the upgrade and you need to roll back to your previous version.
    How to delete Windows.old ?
Most people will tell you use the built-in Disk Cleanup application.
I find it a whole lot more easier and actually faster using Ccleaner. Ccleaner is a free program. It is widely used and recommended.
How to use Ccleaner to remove Windows.old ?
Open Ccleaner > left side, make sure you are at windows tab > scroll down to Advanced > check the box " Old Windows Installation" > right side, click Analyze > when done it will tell you how many GB of space will be removed which
means how many GB you will get back for use > click Run cleaner. That is you are done.
Screenshot shows what I had saved from previous OS installation.

  • [Solved]Update Download/Install Size

I just did a fresh install and did a pacman -Syu and the download size is 36mb, but the install size is 100mb. What is being compressed that much. This is from a 2008.3 RC3 core iso. Its updating things like kernel26 and mkinitcpio. Do those come really compressed, or do they create something larger when installed? I guess I never really paid attention to the install size...
    Thanks,
    Zack

Yeah, but that could cause the problem in the other direction, like there :
    http://www.archlinux.org/pipermail/pacm … 11093.html
There is also the fact that packages already downloaded dont appear in total download size. But if you are doing -Su, this does not apply.
There is also xdelta, but this is not used.
So basically, I  can't explain what you are seeing.

  • Videos are downloaded at small frame size

    Sir/Madam,
I downloaded some videos from youtube. I have "Download Helper" and "Best Video Downloader" add ons installed. Any video that i download is downloaded at very small frame size like a little box. I don't mean a specific video , the problem is with any video that i download. I tried both of them. I informed them about this but no response is given by them. Is this a browser issue? (This problem is occurring from 2 days.)

    Not a Firefox issue
    Open Windows Media Player
    * go to View Menu -> Video Size -> place Checkmarks on -> '''Fit Video to Player on Resize''' -> '''Fit Player to Video on Start'''
    * Restart Windows Media Player
Check and tell if its working.

I have exactly the same problem - Whenever I go to Print, the print widow appears, it thinks about it for a bit (rotating symbol) and then quits.

  • Firefox 19 install size significantly smaller?

    Targets (1): firefox-19.0-1
    Total Installed Size: 32.52 MiB
    Net Upgrade Size: -14.89 MiB
I was really surprised to see the install size change that much?  Has anyone heard what Firefox did to achieve this?  I would have thought the size would have increased with the addition of a native PDF reader.

Hmm... Puzzling. Looking at the git commits it was just a version bump, no changes in build process. Let's see if the package file is larger:
    sid ~ > du -h /var/cache/pacman/pkg/firefox-*
    16M /var/cache/pacman/pkg/firefox-16.0.1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    16M /var/cache/pacman/pkg/firefox-16.0.2-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    18M /var/cache/pacman/pkg/firefox-17.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    18M /var/cache/pacman/pkg/firefox-17.0.1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    19M /var/cache/pacman/pkg/firefox-18.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

    19M /var/cache/pacman/pkg/firefox-18.0.2-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    19M /var/cache/pacman/pkg/firefox-19.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
Nope. OK, but that's compressed, what's the installed size of those packages?
    sid ~ > pacman -Qi -p /var/cache/pacman/pkg/firefox-* | awk '/^Version/ {printf "%s - ", $3} /^Installed Size/ {print $4 $5} '
    16.0.1-1 - 41796.00KiB

    17.0.1-1 - 45152.00KiB

    18.0-2 - 48540.00KiB

    18.0.2-1 - 48540.00KiB
    19.0-1 - 33296.00KiB
OK. Something did change massively. Let's see which file changed sizes:
    (with 19 installed)
    ~ > pacman -Qlq firefox | grep -vE '/$' | sort | xargs du -h > /tmp/19
    (with 18.0.2 installed)
    ~ > pacman -Qlq firefox | grep -vE '/$' | sort | xargs du -h > /tmp/18
    sid tmp > diff 18 19
    3c3
    < 48K /usr/lib/firefox/blocklist.xml
    > 52K /usr/lib/firefox/blocklist.xml
    25,26c25,26
    < 108K /usr/lib/firefox/mozilla-xremote-client
    < 8.1M /usr/lib/firefox/omni.ja
    > 112K /usr/lib/firefox/mozilla-xremote-client
    > 8.3M /usr/lib/firefox/omni.ja
    Only about a 200k diff there. I can't see what's causing this.
    I'm still lost

  • Deploying JavaFX on Ubuntu (to a .deb package) -- Installed-Size error

I've already posted this to the NetBeans forums several times over the past 4-5 days, but no answers, so I thought I'd try here, since perhaps this is JavaFX related.
Essentially, I'm getting a "package is of bad quality" error (due to bad DEBIAN/control field "Installed-Size") when I attempt to install a .deb I've created with NetBeans when I install it on Ubuntu 12.04
Here are all the gory details:
    http://forums.netbeans.org/viewtopic.php?t=51447
-also, a link to SO as well-
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/12658336/netbeans-javafx-build-debian-installed-size
Has anyone here successfully deployed to Ubuntu (or Debian itself) and you are not getting this "package is of bad quality" warning when installing? Or know how to fix it?
(Please see my last post--at bottom--at the netbeans forum link above for all the places--multiple links in that post--that I've referenced in an attempt to figure this out!)
My app runs fine, I just click 'Ignore and install' button--but that's really dirty and certainly undeliverable to a client that way!
    Thanks
    ~ Brad

To avoid the warning you can do this:
    in file <name-of-project>/nbproject/configurations.xml
    Add a line between <packInfoList> and </packInfoList>
with the estimated installed size like :
    <packInfoListElem name="Installed-Size" value="528" mandatory="true"/>
    then rebuild your package.
    Documentation of "Installed-Size" is here:
    http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-controlfields.html#s-f-Installed-Size

  • Client Install Size

Is there a way to have OCI support for an application without installing 300+ MB for the client install? I am trying to distribute a program using the smallest install size possible, but it has to support OCI.
    Thanks

I also need a minimal install of an OCI client. Local service naming (tnsnames.ora) is all I need, no directory client, no SQLPlus, no frills. Does anyone know if Oracle provides anything like this?
Has anyone managed to do this ?
    I need it for 9iR1 or 9iR2.

  • Newbie Musing About Installed Size

I recently installed two distros on my PC. Arch Gimmick and Debian Etch. I installed both distros the same way. First I installed the "base" system. Then I installed the minimum amount of additional software required for my needs/wants: X window, KDE, Mozilla-Firefox, packages necessary to use my HP 3210 printer, Kaffeine and multimedia packages necessary to play .mpg and .wmv video files with sound, samba and packages necessary to browse shared folders on a WinXP PC on my local network.
The Arch base system was 575.0 MB while the Etch base system was 460.6 MB. The Arch total installed size is 1647 MB while the Etch installed size is 1200 MB. I am surprised that Arch is 247 MB larger than Etch.
Arch boots from the Grub menu to a full KDE desktop in 40 seconds while Etch takes 43 seconds.
Any comments from more experienced Arch users?
    Good luck, jimbo

I did a quick and dirty speed test between Arch and Etch. I measured load time for Firefox, emelfm, Kaffeine, Konsole and Konqueror.
                  Firefox        Emelfm      Kaffeine      Konsole      Konqueror
    Arch        <3              <1               <2               <1                  1
    Etch        <2               <1              <3                1                   1
Not really a very presise test, I just started each application several times while watching a clock. But I think it does represent the relative "feel" of the two distros.
Sorry for the poor column line up, I don't know how to make it any better.
    Good luck, jimbo

I have a power mac G5 with Mac OS X 10.5 installed. I am new to macs, but not to PC's in general.
My issue is this: I can download but not install/launch new applications. I've tried updating safari but the .pkg file won't open. I've tried a software update from the apple menu but it says there's a network error 1011 yet i'm online?! I tried a standalone download of a combo update but it stopped halfway through...I CANNOT DO ANYTHING!!!
The machine is working fine, no strange noises, I can work everything on the mac as it should (internet, itunes, calendar etc all fine).
Why can't I update my software and why can't I launch my new applications/programs that I've downloaded?
I downloaded a combo update to a usb from another machine and it started the install procedure but when it came to selecting the destination, my hard drive was not selectable and said 'You cannot install mac os x update combined to this volume. ERROR_INSTALL. Went to partition the hard drive as recommended, but I can't as it's the startup volume...HELP PLEASE!!

Hi Hannah, and a warm welcome to the forums & Macdom!
Is this the Combo you downloaded?

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • How to change the default window size display font size on Lync 2013 main window?

    Hi champs,
Just a simple non-technical question: How to change the default window size display font size on Lync 2013 main window on Windows 7 desktop?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Did you mean change the Lync: Change the Default Font and Color of Instant Messages just as Edwin said above?
If not, as I know, there is no natural way to change it.
If yes, on the latest version of Lync 2013 client, there is a new option “IM” on Lync client “Options” list. And you need to change the default Font and Color of IM in the interface of “IM”.

  • I have downloaded, extracted and installed Elements 12 but it will not open nor can I find the Adobe file in the file where I installed it to..  When I've tried to download and install again

I have downloaded, extracted and installed Elements 12 but it will not open nor can I find the Adobe file in the file where I installed it to..  When I've tried to download and install again it says that the "Object Already Exists."  It may exists, but it is not visible in the file or in my list of programs on the Startup Menu.

You should not have to uninstall Premiere Elements 12/12.1 in order to install and run Premiere Elements 13 on the same computer unless your computer is overloaded and the computer resources are compromised. Just use one program at a time.
Can you still use 12/12.1 on this same computer that will not let you use 13?
What specific Window operating system are you using?
Let us go through the usual drill...
    1. Does the problem exist with and without the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled?
    2. Are you using a pen and tablet device instead of a mouse?
    3. Did you install the program with antivirus and firewall(s) disabled?
    4. Disable the SLCache Folder found in Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit
    Local Disk C
    Program Files (x86)
    Common Files
    Adobe
and in the Adobe Folder should be the SL Cache Folder that you delete or disable by renaming the Folder
    from SLCache to SLCacheOLD.
    5. Are you running the program as Administrator and is the latest version of QuickTime installed on the same
    computer as Premiere Elements 13?
Let us start here and then decide what next.
    Thank you.

  • How to change font size, maximum column size in the result screen ?

    hi All
That's great when using SQL Dev.
But I also have a trouble that how to change font size, maximum column size in the result screen ?
My users think that font in result screen is shown very small, and whenever the data in each colum is long then it's not shown full data in column, they must double click for extend the size. Have the option to default the max size for showing full data in each column ? I try but still not to do that .
Appreciate for anyone to help us.
    Thanks all.

You can't change the font for the results screen yet, however you will be able to select an auto-fit option for selected columns, so if some columns have slitghtly wider text you'll be able to set the column widths to handle these wider columns.
Also, there s the option of switching the layout of a record in the grid.
