Download speed (broadband) reduced this week

I am 1mb broadband user. I have not had any problems downloading tunes or playing previews, until recently.
I am now finding that downloading is taking as long as dial-up. Also, when playing previews, it keeps getting interrupted, with the message 'Network stalled - rebuffering stream' and this happens about 4 times with the preview.
Could this be a firewall probelm, or any other tips on what settings I should be checking?

Seeing a similar thing here.  I used to get over 50Mbps download but now I'm getting 40 while being on Infinity 2:
1. Product name:
BT Home Hub
2. Serial number:
+06xxxx+NQ3335xxxx
3. Firmware version:
Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.173.1.6 (Type A) Last updated 29/04/14
4. Board version:
BT Hub 5A
5. VDSL uptime:
6 days, 13:22:51
6. Data rate:
7025 / 43430
7. Maximum data rate:
7183 / 54397
8. Noise margin:
6.1 / 5.8
9. Line attenuation:
0.0 / 18.0
10. Signal attenuation:
0.0 / 17.6
11. Data sent/received:
148.9 MB / 3.9 GB
12. Broadband username:
[email protected]
13. BT Wi-fi:
Yes
Having read other posts I'm guesiing it may be due to uptake of Infinity by other users sharing the same cabinet as me.  I keep holding out for things to get better but it may be time to flag it up as a problem

  • TS3274 My daughters ipad has stopped downloading new apps, we tried to download some new ones this week and they are just showing as "waiting", we deleted all her games to see if it was a memory issue but they are still showing as waiting.

We have tried to download some new free games for my daughter this week, there are three which are just showing as "waiting" and not downloading at all and its been almost a week.
I deleted all her previous games thinking it might somehow free them up but it has not helped.
please help i am getting nagged!

If there are multiple apps trying to download at once, only one can download at a time and the rest say "Waiting" until it is then their turn. Try this. Double tap the icon of the Waiting app, and it should resume the download.

Another thing to try - Turn the iPad Off & then back ON.
    If that doesn't work:
    •  Log out of your iTunes store account.  Go to Settings > Store > Sign Out Then press the Home button.
    • Then press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously and don't release them when it brings up the Turn Off screen; keep holding them until the Apple logo appears.
    • After restart, the Waiting should be gone.

  • Exceedingly slow download speeds on brand new mbp os lion

    Hi,
There seems to be a lot of posted issues with slow download speeds on the MBP.  I purchased mine 2 weeks ago (Oct 2011), a 13" core i7.  My download speeds are a tiny fraction of what I get with a 10 year old Dell.  Reading the posts on this issue, they all seem to be going in circles.  I am technically very savvy although new to apple.  I did at one point get an acceptable increase in download speeds after manually entering the gateway, subnet and DNS.  However two days later download speeds have reduced from 17.8 MB/s to 37kb/s.  The right now the Dell is screaming a 702MB download.  The MBP slug is telling me it will take 5 hours.
Has anyone ever resolved his issue?

So as mentioned above I tried connecting to the router using a wire instead of wireless..
many sites work fine....but some do not
    Example
    works fine
    Apple.com
    gmail.com
does not work fine...the page does not load up and gets stuck in the very beginning....
    www.CNN.com
    http://www.sportsauthority.com/home/index.jsp
sportauthority has flash embedded on that page....CNN, I do not know...
could it have anything to do with Flash ?

  • [SOLVED] Download speed is slow while playing certain Steam games

This is a weird one: When playing Steam games my download speed (everywhere) drops to a fraction of what it should be (roughly 1/10th). My upload speed is unaffected.
I don't know how long this has been the case but I think it's fairly recent since when playing games I often tab out and do stuff on the net. I would've noticed.
This doesn't happen with Portal 2, Civ V, Guacamelee or Xcom but does happen with Rochard, Steamworks Dig, Gateways (2d puzzle platformer) and Awesomenauts. I was looking for a pattern but I fail to see one.
To be clear about the problem: If I start one of those games and tab out my download speed is 1/10th what it should be. If I exit the game my download speed returns to normal instantly.
I've checked for obvious stuff like Steam downloading in the background (it's not and nor is anything else - no unusual network activity at all). I've checked for mere coincidence - signal dropping/interference and so on and that seems not to be it either. It's also far too consistent and, as I say, upload is unaffected for some reason.
I don't even know what info to give with this one or how to begin tracking it down so any advice will be received gratefully.
I'm running Arch 64bit, all up to date.
    05:03.0 Network controller: Ralink corp. RT2561/RT61 rev B 802.11g
Which I believe is using the rt61pci module.

Ok, well, I *think* I've sort of solved it:
I went through various wifi channels and found that the degree to which my download speed was reduced varied depending on the wifi channel I was on. So I left a game running and watched the download speed and the speed of my CPU and GPU as they clocked up/down and it seems that one of them is managing to interfere with the wifi signal. Or at least that's my best guess. High wifi channel numbers seem to be affected least (significantly so) so ... yeah.
I don't know if this makes sense technically (and no idea how I've never encountered it before) but... that's my guess.

  • Slooowww download speeds with new MacBook Air.

I recently replaced my old MacBook from 2007 with a new MacBook Air. Since I've gotten it I've had a series of frustruations. I hadn't even thought to check if it had an ethernet port or a cd drive. Because it has nither I've had to download versions of things I'd generally install via CD. My download speeds seem to be incredibly slow on this new MacBook Air, it took hours to download firefox. I feel like my older MacBook was much faster, I don't understand. I recently did a speed test (I have Comcast) for the MacBook Air and it came up with a 1mbps download speed. Is this an issue with the computer or with my modem (docis 3.0, cable) or router (standard belkin) or with Comcast? I'm pretty frustrutaed.
    Other questions:
I'd love to plug this directly into our cable modem, but I see that I need an adapter.
I'd also love to connect this to my iMac via thunderbolt cable and use use target disc mode to install some stuff.
I'd like to buy a plain thunderbolt cable to have for use with more modern computers, and adapters for use with this older/other stuff. Is there an adapter that lets me attach the thunderbolt cable to an ethernet wire so I can plug directly into the modem? Also, my imac has a firewire 800 port, not a thunderbolt port, so is there a thunderbolt to firewire 800 cable?
What would be the cheapest way of getting these cables and adapters, (links would be very appreciated!)?
    Thanks!

Yes. Take it back for a replacement. Take the computer with you so you can test the new one.

  • Download speed for iTunes only 26KB

Hi everbody, I try to download iTunes with 26KB download speed. Is this a temporarally issue? My cable has a bandwidth as of 50.000 Mbit/ download.
Thanks for quick help and answer.
    Heiko

Your download speeds are almost entirely dependent upon your ISP. As far as I am aware, Apple does not throttle your download speeds.

  • My internet download speeds very slow

Dear Sir or Madam:I changed my cable service plan on 3/6/2015. Internet download speeds should be 25Mbp/s.   Unfortunately, Comcast never support this kind of download speeds rate to my service requested rate. I checked the download speeds rate ever day, without 3/6/2015—3/9/2015, the download speeds rate reached 5Mbp/s, otherwise, until now, there are no any one day , the download speeds rate up to 2mbp/s,   sometime even download speeds is zero 0 bp/s ; most time download speeds only around 100Kbp/s. or under 100kbps.I bought new Gateway model Motorola SBG6580 that is working perfectly. I checked cable connection is good.I paid for 25mbps download speeds rate. Comcast given me only at 100kbps download speeds rate. This is too much overly fault service, I can’t accepted.I hope Comcast fix the problem immediately.  Thank you.

    I am getting 1.2MB currently.
    Sometimes I get lot more.
    I understand technically why you
    think Apple resolution would put
    more demands on bandwidth.
    1080P for my TV.
As I said this worked for other
    apple movie rentals in past.
I have been using same Dsl
    service for many years.
I know you are going to say that
    my bandwidth is too slow.
    Which Dsl customer gets 6MB?
How much do they pay each month
to get that kind of bandwidth.
I pay $80/mo and get 5 IPs which
    I need.

  • Infinity Download Speed 3.6 Mb/s after 4 weeks :-(

I 'upgraded' from BT standard broadband (4.9 Mb/s download) to BT Infinity 4 weeks ago. The peak speed I've had when first installed was 7 Mb down/ 1Mb up - I was quoted 19.4 Mb /2Mb. Engineer showed line synch speed of around 20 Mb, saying speed should increase during training period. Speed dropped to about 5 Mb after first day or so.
After various long calls to call centre and lots of **bleep** like 'you'll get very good 30/6 Mb speeds after the 10 period... Engineer is working on it ....yes this is a real speed estimate for your line'. That was when the phone line to the call centre actually worked and they could here me. After phoning cancellations and recording my complaints they booked an engineer for last Friday morning - all this took about 45 minutes on the phone. Engineer failed to call or turn up - I called them, they asked if I could remain at home for the afternoon - an engineer may call. I said I'd only wait if they actually sent an engineer. At 3.10pm the OpenReach control centre (Welsh accent) said an engineer would be with me in 30 minutes..... they never turned up.
I got more outright lies about the engineer visiting the exchange instead of me, had found a fault & had ordered a new switch. It was confirmed by engineer that finally turned up on Monday that what I was told was rubbish - no engineer had been to exchange and the fault had not yet been diagnosed.
Engineer on Monday tested line synch, gets 16 Mb but could not get better than 5 Mb download on his laptop nor my PC. He went to cabinet(about 3/4 mile away from property and 10 yards from exchange ) checked stuff there. He claims controller said my profile was set correctly (24/2) and wouldn't reset it. He came back here (to my surprise) and replaced all of DSL modem, cables, power supplies & Home Hub 3. I now get consistently 3.6 Mb/s download after 5 days with new kit (engineer claimed that replacing modem & hub would trigger a profile reset ??). The engineer did say he 'wasn't technical' when I asked why the ping was so slow (45 mS) ....
I'm checking on speedtest.net and others. BT Wholesale speedtest Beta gives 7/0.78 (ping 266 mS !!!) but I've also tried large file downloads (Microsoft) & get about 288 kB/s.
BT have phoned 3 evenings this week to ask how my speed is  but there's no improvement nor none in sight.
Should I just cancel my contract? Would cancellation charges be waived since they have failed to provide the service?
Do I need to get a moderator here to get a profile reset?
Would changing ISP probably resolve this issue?
    Thanks
    Jon.

    Hi,
I'm using a wired connection. I've turned off Av for this test.
The BT Speed Tester Lite Beta (your link) gives:
    Download Speed (Mbps): 6.82
    Upload Speed (Mbps): 0.62
    Ping Latency (mS): 43.13
    Diagnostics Test results:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 8 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 12 Mbps-20.09 Mbps .
     Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 20.09 Mbps
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 0.63Mbps
     Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 2 Mbps
    Hope this is useful.
    Jon.

  • Widely varying broadband download speeds, why?

For a little over one week now (and tested a various points during the day) my broadband download speeds were so slow it was not possible to get a reading using the BT tool (Broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk recorded download speeds of around 0.185 mb).  Checking with BT there was no reported fault.  Today is has restored to a perfectly acceptable 2.85 mb connection speed (2.55 mb download speed).  As far as I am aware nothing has changed.  Any suggestions why?  Thanks,  Nick

  • Suddenly reduced BB download speed - again!

Many months ago, I suffered a drastic reduction in BB speed.  Please can you help?  According to BT website, I should get BB download speed of 12.0 to 14.5 Mb/s but since September this has been around 9 Mb/s.  On 19 December 2012, the speed suddenly dropped to 6655/828 and here is my current data from the Hub 2.0:

As you can see, the noise ratio which is usually in the 14-15 dB area has jumped to over 20 dB!
Please don't tell me that this is due to the Hub being reset too often.  Only time I switched off the Hub was to move it to the BT box in the hallway.  It resets itself frequently enough with no help from me.  Today it has reset itself three times in 8 minutes during the past hour!!
I have moved my Hub from upstairs at the end of a 15-metre extension to the BT box in our hallway where it enters the house.  No improvement whatever.  I have an I-Plate fitted.
I connected my laptop to the Hub by ethernet and got the results:
Max possible speed 7.15Mb/s; actual speed 5.87 Mb/s download.  Sorry I can't show the image but the desktop I am using is connected by wireless and the BT Speedtester doesn't want me to connect wirelessly - why not?
Can someone please reset the noise margin to something like the 6.0 dB that is the BT standard as that will undoubtedly speed up my connection?  And should I just dump the Hub 2.0 and buy a router which delivers?  And when will this lonely bit of Birmingham be getting Infinity?  Every other exchange around me has Infinity buty good old Acocks Green still operates steam-powered Broadband!!
    Help, please!

  • "Unlimited" BT Broadband - Download speeds locked ...

Since February 16th something has been choking my broadband connection literally pretty much to death. 15kbps download speed doesn't constitute broadband. That is, nevertheless, pretty much all we've been getting.

Already had an engineer round, called for a reset - seemed to fix the problem for a few days - that held almost good for 8 whole days however, come peak - broad band would throttle down. Now its back to what it was, throttled to 15kbps. Doesn't mater what you try to download or where you download it from - p2p or http - makes no difference.
Current maximum just about makes 15kbps.
How do I get this fixed, please? Getting pretty **bleep** PO'd.

... I've been connected to the **bleep** test socket since February, John. The engineer even fitted us with a brand spanky new socket, just to eliminate any possibility of bad copper.
Now peak is over, indeed. Yes. Download speeds are higher. Currently notching up 167kbps! Three minutes ago I crossed the Heisenberg Threashold, ended up in 1947 and shot my own Grandfather....
Never time travel with a loaded gun, John. It's bound to end in shinanikins.
But. On a serious note. We're supposed to be getting between 1-2mbps on this thing, John. Now we're on unlimited. That's what we're supposed to be getting. Highest it has yet gone is 300kbps. That's the best it does.
We don't switch off the hub. I've had it running constantly. **bleep** thing keeps dropping its connection. Doesn't do it when speeds are up. buy when they're crawling - and by this I mean litterally struggling to make it up to 15kbps - the poor thing probably feels like its had it's throat cut.
PS: Thank you for the info. We use adsl filtered NTE5 faceplate. Enginner checked the line March 6th. Lines fine - he found the problem came down to the SNR being set to 15db Interleaved when (for our distance from the exhange box) really we should be set to 9 db Interleaved. Called for a remote reset - immediate pick up. This held fine for about 8 days but, as the days went by - speeds started dropping as peak kicked in - now we're in the possition we are.
The question is how do we get this fixed.
Pretty sure the problem is with the Automated Traffic Nazi at the exchange. When it throttles back the line - the Hub 3 drops the connection. When the Hub 3 drops the connection....

  • Once again reduced to 0.32mbps Download speed, 350...

After 19 days without resetting the router, the speed was suddenly reduced this morning to what it says in the thread title. Speedtester results and router stats below. I reset the router to test if that was the problem which is why it will say 0 days connection time.
Download speedachieved during the test was - 356 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 50-500 Kbps.

Am I supposed to contact BT to get the profile reset? Thanks for any help.

Download speedachieved during the test was - 64 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 50-250 Kbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :192 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 135 Kbps
No restarts or loss of connection.. profile even lower. Contacted BT and they apparently reset it and can take a couple of days but surely it should be getting slowly better.. not worse?

  • Broadband download speed has dropped from ~2.7Mbps...

    Hello,
For the last few weeks our broadband download speed has dropped from ~2.7Mbps (which we've been getting consistently for years) down to 0.7Mbs. It's now so low that our download speed is slower than our upload speed. I've take the following steps and nothing has worked:
Running the BT Broadband Speed Checker
Removing all equipment so its just the BT Home Hub connected through a BT Microfilter straight into the master socket
Replacing the modem cable and Microfilter
    Online line fault check
As I say, it only recently - over the last few weeks - that our speed has decreased so massively from what we've been getting for years and it is extremely frustratingly slow - I can get faster speeds via my mobile phone's 3G network.
Here's a screenshot of the ADSL line status from the BT Home Hub.

when you joined BT broadband you would have received an email address *****@btinternet.com or  ******@btopenworld.com   Bt would normally send the emails to that address

  • Suddenly reduced BB download speed

I rang 0800 111 4567 on Sunday night (19 Feb 2012) after losing broadband completely and was told the problem would be resolved within 24/48 hours.  Monday morning, I was connected at 08:11 and got 11984/828.  The Home Hub 2.0A then restarted a dozen times and I ended up at 09:07 with 12108/828.  I am supposed to be getting 17MB but.....
All seemed to be well until Tuesday morning when I started my PC and found the speeds were now 7127/790 and the download speed remains stubbornly at 7127 while the upload speed bounces around between 828 and 756.  Found out about the forum this afternoon!
My Home Hub has restarted four times in the last hour. Here are the latest stats at 16:01 22 Feb 2012:

I am less half a mile from the exchange and very disappointed with BB speed.
    What do I do now?

I do not know.  It reset yesterday at 16:37 (7127/708), 16:44 (7127/756), at 18:24 (7127/828) and this morning, soon after I started up my PC, it restarted again (7127/828).  This morning, it took three minutes to reset.  I suddenly noticed that only two lights were on - power light and wireless light were both blue.  I then sat and waited for at least two minutes before the Broadband light started to flash orange and eventually went blue and then the Phone light flashed half a dozen times and went blue.
Usually, when the Hub restarts, it takes under a minute.
