Download speeds displayed

With latest version 20, the new download manager, no longer displays download speeds per file. Anyway to return that function?
Thank you!

Hi djvtech, I read about a way to do that. When you hover your mouse over the download, the tooltip that displays shows the speed. Inserting that tooltip into the actual Download Panel is possible but it's somewhat complicated. See this thread: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/956728 Is there any way to make the new downloads panel show the current speed of a download?]

  • Possible to change default downloader speed displaying rate from KBps to Mbps?

    I'm pretty tired of doing the calculations from KBps to Mbps (speeds advertised for internet connections). No one deals in KB for most stuff downloaded on the net. More in the order of MB. However, it would be easier to see how well its performing in Mbps. That way i can see how close to maximum it's running for a connection (wireless 3G, ADSL / DSL etc)
    Is there somewhere in firefox i can change that output thats displayed in the download window from KBps to Mbps?
    help greatly appreciated.

    any ideas?

  • Display Resolution affects download speed

    Switched display to a Viewsonic VX2235wm with a resolution of 1680 x 1050, and noticed that my internet download speed went WAY down. Coincidence, or did I eat into my resources?
    Mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   1GB memory

    Hi,
    Even if your display high resolution uses more resources (sounds correct since the mini is using shared memory for its graphic card), there is IMHO absolutely no way it could affect internet download speed, which should only depend on :
    - your phone line quality ;
    - how many computers are using the connection (divided bandwith);
    - How you connect your mac to your modem (usb slower than ethernet);
    - problems encountered by your provider.
    Since it seems you had once a good connection and noticed only recently a difference, maybe the latter reason could be a good explanation...

  • Airport download speeds slow when extending display to LCD

    When I connect my Macbook using the mini display to DVI, DVI to HDMI adapter to my LCD TV, my download speeds pretty much fall off to nothing. When I disconnect the display adapter, the connection resumes. Any ideas?

    Bob -
    Was wondering if you can elaborate on your response and perhaps help me? I apologize if I have missed this topic covered elsewhere.
    I am using a N-capable Time Capsule and an older model G-speed airport express. My biggest issue is that my wireless speeds are 1.5 download and 1.9 upload when in fact my cable modem pumps out 15! In reading your posts I see that my network is likely dropped down to G due to my old express, and in fact my computer may be running of a spliced version of that if using WDS settings?
    I think i'll end up calling apple support at some point but was curious if you can go over the facts of using N and G together, and if i can have my macbook pro speak to my N network only and my iphone 3G speak to G airport express only?
    Last piece of info is I use the airport express for my music.... not sure if this means they must be WDS or not? I'm just looking to get my N devices as fast as possible while continuing to use my G express. If you tell me i need to upgrade to a N express I can live with it.... but if i can avoid the $100 and work with what i have...all the better!
    Thanks in advance,

  • Ipad mini with retina display has really slow and laggy streaming but very high download speed

    I just got my ipad mini with retina display yesterday. The regular internet works fine as far as I can tell. I tried streaming video from watch espn, netflix, and youtube, and all three apps were so slow I couldn't watch anything. I have a high download speed too, it is 15 Mbps. I tried turning off the QOS engine in my router, and my download speed was up to 30 Mbps, and I still had the same terrible streaming quality. I tried changing the DNS as well, and this did nothing. I tried doing all the restarting and other "quick fixes," and nothing seems to work. Can anybody help me?

    I requested your post be moved to the iPad forum. This is the Mac Mini desktop forum

  • Could airport issues have anything to do with download speed?

    I have been experiecing at best 161KB/s download speed, not quite sure where to look for the problem, any ideas?
    I have checked with two different sites that have speed tests, the results were not consistant.  End result of one was a 1.31MB/s potential.  I have been trying to download different movies, the download display estimates anywhere from 8-9.5 hours to download one movie. Help!

    To rule out (or in) that the AirPort maybe the culprit, temporarily connect your computer directly to your Internet modem. Do you see significant improvements in the speed tests that you have run previously? If so, we can troubleshoot the AirPort to see where the problem may be.

  • Horrifically slow ATV2 download speed

    I live in Phoenix with Cox Communications as my ISP. I just tried to rent Inception HD from Apple and it says it will be ready to view in 5 hours 47 minutes.... this is totally unacceptable! I can login to Netflix (I just tried and confirmed) with the highest quality video available and it buffers and starts in a matter of minutes. Is there something significantly different happening from Apple that would cause such a wait time? Thinking it might be my ISP, I disconnected everything, rebooted all the devices and see the same behavior. If I need wait 5 hours for each HD video, ATV is useless to me.
    Anyone else experiencing poor performance on ATV in the Phoenix area?

    The quality may not be as good but at least it's "On Demand" and not after a two hour+ wait time.
    Frankly, I thought the quality was substandard for the file I downloaded--i.e., a free iTunes "digital copy" of a Blu-ray disc released last Tuesday. I normally encode my own content, but as the DVD version of the movie was not locally available, I opted to try the download so as to compare my files with what I assumed to be "typical" iTunes SD encode quality. The file appeared to be an H.264 "context adaptive" encode using video settings that produced pre-iPhone 4 level bit rate output (i.e., video under 1 Mbps). Since I normally use a video data rate in the 2.0 to 3.0 Mbps for SD widescreen and 2.5 to 3.5 Mbps SD 4:3 content, I was shocked by these stats. (I.e., whoever encoded the file used a 640x362 encode matrix for an 853x362 anamorphic display where I would have used the DVD's 720x480 encode matrix for the 853x480 anamorphic output.) In any event, I was both surprised and disappointed with what I assumed was supposed to be a commercial quality. And, while the file was viewable, I had expected more and will be interested to see if my custom settings will reduce color banding. Unfortunately, my iTunes download experience is very limited so I do not know if this was typical. (I.e., my only other experience was in March of 2009 and that file used the same encoding settings but the graphic complexity of the source content pushed the output video bit rate more than 50% higher than this encode.)
    In any event, I doubt I will be purchase downloading much content until or unless download speeds are more consistent on a 24/7 basis and not subject to traffic congestion/bottlenecks. As to SD rental streaming, the 6.5 Mbps seems more than sufficient for SD rentals, but can anyone who has both rented and purchased the same HD movie provide any information as to the typical playback data rate of HD files. Would not want to close the door on the possibility of renting HD files but neither am I willing to waste money randomly testing a dozen of them myself if 6.5 Mbps is insufficient to view them in a timely streaming manner.

  • Slow Download Speeds in iTunes

    I have a 17" Intel Mac Core Duo, 512Mb RAM, on an Adelphia Cable connection using a Motorola SB5100E Surfboard modem.
    I`m noticing that even though the traffic widget is showing download speeds of 1.xx Gb and variable Kb`s rate, my downloads on iTunes are excruciatingly slow. It could be me but sometimes other downloads seem slow as well.
    What or where should I look for in order to speed things up?
    Should I add more RAM?
    Another thing I noticed lately, could be or not related, when I click the Mighty Mouse button in order to see the widgets, I have one of the widgets that initially display a message of "Internet Connection Required", but eventually it will start working. The other widgets also fail to work as well while this is happening. It seems to me RAM should be the answer to my problems, but back in february of this year when I bought the computer, none of this was happening. I haven`t added that many programs to the computer that could be taxing the system this much.

    What speed are you paying for from Adelphia?
    Have you tried other tools to measure DL speed like PC Pitstop? It is not Flash or Javascript based and gives an accurate measurement in my experience.
    It is possible that your ISP is having temporary troubles or that ITMS is just plain busy. Although it is probably unrelated, these support forums have been slow for me today.

  • Download speeds dead in Mavericks!

    I'm completely confused. I have a 12Mb internet connections that works great. I've upgraded my Mac Mini, MBP, and MB Air to Mavericks. Since then, my download speeds have gone from over 1MB/sec to about 50-60kb/sec. Doesn't matter if it's from the iTunes Store, a random website, or my web FTP servers.
    I can't figure out what in Mavericks could possibly have caused this. I went to speedtest.net to make sure it wasn't my connection, but I get the 12-15Mb speeds through that test. To be sure, I've rebooted my modem and gone through all those normal steps. It is definitely NOT my internet connection. It's something about the Mavericks install.
    Anyone else have this happen? Any thoughts as to what I can do to fix it?

    I have this problem too and only since upgrading to Mavericks.
    I'm downloading an Adobe program and it's averaging about 50-500 kbps.  For a while, it sat at 199 for the better part of an hour.  It occassionally goes up to 1.5 mbps...but only for a few moments before dropping to the 50-150 kbps range.
    I've checked speedtest.net and it shows my speed ranging between 5-10 mbps depending on the time of day.  The same results show on my iPhone using the OpenSignal app.
    I changed by wireless wire channel over to 1 from 11 and that improved a bit, but not much.
    I also pulled out my 4 year old Sony Viao and started downloading the same file.  It's processing speed and RAM is glacial compared to my new iMac (just bought it 4 weeks ago).  While Windows doesn't display the actual download speed that I can find, the progress showed it would beat my iMac.  (The iMac has been downloading for over an hour and only at about 60%....the Sony Viao was at about 20% in 5 minutes.)
    I'm with you Jeremy....is there a solution to this issue?

  • Varying download speeds

    when i download off of software update i get a really fast download speed, but when i download the doom 3 demo it is really slow (at the beggining it starts off at around 60KBps and drops really low, lower than 10KBps sometimes, and it wont go back up. and it tries to mount too early causing the mounting to fail. i do not know why it does it (10MB of 465MB it mounts unless i have a fast download speed) whats up with airport? i also have AirTrafficControll widget and i can connect to networks that way too. Also do i need airport 4.2 if i have airport Extreme?

    Thanks for the info.
    When you have a chance, you might want to recheck your settings for the Time Capsule base station and Express remotes, as it's easy to miss a step during configuration.
    AirPort Utility is used to configure all devices and you can click the Manual Setup button to save time and access the settings.
    For the Time Capsule, click the Wireless tab just below the row of icons at the top of the setup page. On the wireless settings page, the Wireless Mode would be "Create a wireless network" and there should be a check mark next to "Allow this network to be extended". That's it for the TC.
    For both of the Expresses, click the Wireless tab as above. On the wireless page, the Wireless Mode should be set to "Extend a wireless network". The network created by the TC should be displayed. Also make sure there is a check mark next to "Allow wireless clients". That's it for the Expresses.
    I believe that you could also configure the Express that you have set to "Join" to "extend" as well. This setting seemed to work for AirTunes when I tried it a few weeks ago. If that's the case, you will also have a 3rd Express "extending" the wireless network.
    As a frame of reference, I have 2 Express units that I normally use to extend and the speed remains constant within 5-10% in virtually all locations within the house and even out on the patio. Unless you do have some interference issues, (use iStumbler, www.istumbler.net to check), I think you should expect very good wireless performance.
    One note to point out if you are using 802.11n 5 GHz. The higher frequencies of this band are absorbed much more quickly than the 2.4 GHz band, so you will see a much steeper drop off in speed with distance and any minor obstructions on 5 GHz.

  • Client's download speed

    Hi, i have a 1TB Time capsule (not the newest model), and me and my father are connected to it.
    The problem is, when i start downloading something (we have a megaupload premium account),i get around 900kbps and when my father starts downloading too, he gets around 700kbps and i go down to 200kbps.
    I have a macbook white with os x 10.5.8, and he has a toshiba satellite with ubuntu 10.04
    Why does this happens, even when i started downloading first? what can i do to at least "balance" the download speed?
    Thanks in advance,

    Here's a more complete example inferred from the code snippet you provided.  Note the changes to your code in order to provide what appear to be the intended results (convert bytes to megabytes, calculate rate with seconds instead of milliseconds).
    The implementation of the "lastUpdate" variable demonstrates the suggestion from my previous post.
    Public Class Form1
    Private WithEvents client As New System.Net.WebClient
    Private sw As New Stopwatch
    Private lastUpdate As Date
    Private Async Sub Button1_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
    sw.Restart()
    Await client.DownloadFileTaskAsync("https://code.msdn.microsoft.com/Simple-Multi-User-TCPIP-1ff0da41/file/135320/5/Simple%20Multi-User%20TCPIP%20Client%20%26%20Server%20using%20TAP.zip", "d:\test\project.zip")
    sw.Stop()
    End Sub
    Private Sub client_DownloadProgressChanged(sender As Object, e As Net.DownloadProgressChangedEventArgs) Handles client.DownloadProgressChanged
    If Now.Subtract(lastUpdate).TotalMilliseconds >= 250 OrElse e.ProgressPercentage = 100 Then 'throttle to 4 updates per second
    txtDown.Text = "Downloading (" & e.ProgressPercentage.ToString & "%)... (" & (e.TotalBytesToReceive / 1000000).ToString("N2") & " MB) at " & (e.BytesReceived / sw.Elapsed.TotalSeconds).ToString("N2") + " bytes/sec"
    lastUpdate = Now
    End If
    End Sub
    End Class
    -EDITS-
    Sorry, first I miscalculated the download rate, then I cleaned up the progress percentage, and finally I added a check to make sure that the text still displays the final update even if the throttle time hasn't been hit yet.

    in Firefox can not see the Downloads window, in the jump in the boot to be seen - the download speed
    Downloaded much and now can not see how to fix it?

    I hate the new downloads-in-a-tab scheme. This was an unnecessary change in my book (if it aint broke, don't "fix it").
    So in order to get it back, I performed the about:config browser.download.useToolkitUI change, but now all I get is a blank download window that pops up every time I download something.
    Is there something else that I need to do? I've checked the change and it was saved, but it didn't resolve my issue as much as it just caused me a new issue.

  • WRT310N Playstation 3 Slow Download speed and general lag

    Hey guys, I just recently bought the WRT310N and got both of my computers working with it. One is wired directly into the router, while the other is running off wireless. My Playstation 3 is able to connect to the router but I am getting an extremely slow connection speed.
    Right now, both PC's get about 6.4-6.5 Mbps download speed while my Playstation is anywhere from 600 Kbs to 1.2 Mbps. I have plugged in my Playstation 3 directly into the modem and got a speed of 3.2 Mbps and was downloaded a demo very fast, but I do not recieve anywhere near those results when using it wireless.
    Any advice? I have tried opening the ports, but that only seemed to slow it down. A couple of days ago I opened the ports specific to the game NHL 10 and for two days I was getting such a good speed in the game that it felt like I was playing offline, which was great! Then this morning, it just seemed do a complete 180. Now when I play the game I get an extreme amount of lag, and my other games like CoD4 get random lag spikes. Like, I'll be running and I get a lag spike which seems to happen fairly consistently every minute or so.
    Any advice? Should I try opening the ports again or what?

    I think you need to adjust the wireless settings of your Router, The wireless settings on your Router must have been setup to its default that's the reason you are receiving low signal strength on your PS3.
     Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop).In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
    For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
    - Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
    - Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
    Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
    Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
    Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select TKIP...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone and remember the key.
    NOTE : Passphrase should be more that 8 characters...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
    Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
    Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...
