  • Satellite T130 - Can't start the Toshiba HDD recovery

Hi all, I have a problem with my Satellite T130. I have to start the Toshiba HDD Recovery but the computer tell me that there isn't a valid HDD recovery on the PC. Probably this is a my fahter's fault. There is another way to start the recovery?
    Thanks

    Hi iceknight,
Of course you can install Windows from a normal Microsoft Windows disk thats no problem. There are some guides you can find using Google to copy the Windows 7 disk content on an USB stick and then you can install Windows 7 from a USB stick.
But easiest way is you order a recovery disk from Toshiba directly. The recovery disk contains all necessary drivers and tools so the original out of box settings can be restored:

  • Satellite L650-12Q - Toshiba HDD Recovery not working

    Toshiba Satellite L650-12Q
    Windows 7 64bit
I am attempting to re-install Windows using the Toshiba HDD Recovery software on my hard disc in order to restore the computer to factory settings.
I followed the procedure to do this in System Recovery Options, but received the following message:
"The recovery of the operating system is impossible!
Could not find HDD Recovery folder on second drive of the first hard disk. There is no valid HDD Recovery environment on this computer."
    Further details:
Prior to doing the above, I backed up the system and files and folders using AOMEI Backupper. I then made the mistake of merging partitions C: D: and E:, E: contained the HDDR files.
After trying the above recovery and receiving the message above, I re-installed the system file I had backed up to an external hard disc, which resulted in a copy of C: drive and E: drive containing the HDDR files.
Unfortunately, when I tried to recover the OS, the same message appeared.
I then tried to use a System Restore disc I had created a few weeks ago, but found that for some reason that CD is blank.
The good news is that the computer still works - slowly - and the HDDR files appear to be still there but, for some reason, inaccessible.
What are my options? I want to go back to initial factory settings so that I can start afresh and re-install the programmes and files that I want. (I have backed up all my files and have installation discs for programmes.)
If the worst comes to the worst and I have to buy a Windows 7 disc (if that is still possible - I don't want Windows 8), would it be possible to install that on to this computer and would it give me a clean install without any of the rubbish that is presently cluttering up my computer?
Thank you for reading, and I should be grateful for any advice you can offer.

    Thanks for your help.
I have since found some recovery discs (3x DVD-R) that I created on 18 July 2010, when I first bought the laptop. For some reason, however, these do not work.
    I followed the published procedure:
    1. Load first recovery disc.
    2. Turn off computer's power.
    3. Whilst holding down F12, turn on computer.
    4. When "Toshiba leading innovations" appears, release F12.
    5. Use 'up' and 'down' cursor keys to select CD-ROM icon from menu.
    6. Follow menu.
After item 4, "Boot menu" appears, giving options HDD, eSATA, CD, etc. I selected "CD", but nothing further happens.
It looks to me like things are worse than I thought, but on the positive side the computer still works.
Is there anything more that I can do?

  • Toshiba HDD recovery not working

I want to do HDD recovery from Windows 10, I have put all my files on other partitions, I hoped to see & do "Recover without changing the hard drive partitions" but when I turned my PC on while holding 0, It didn't open any TOSHIBA hdd recovery software...This is how it looks and option  - system image recovery requests that I use windows installation DVD .... BTW I have recovery partition in this computer: I just got into Boot Menu while pressing F12 during start-up, clicked on HDD recovery, it asked YES/NO, I pressed Yes, but it just went to this screen again - http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/file/res...File_23358.jpg My PC is kind of ruined right now after restarting... my primary system boot partition is now as RAW file system, I don't know how this happened. But at least I still got my backup partition still on this HDD(I'm seeing this on advanced options>cmd>diskpart). Boot menu > HDD recovery just goes to that windows advanced Options page. If HDD recovery worked, everything would be ok, because it could recover only C partition. But now i can't even boot it into windows where i could make recovery dvd's, but I don't know if I could use them because toshiba recovery mode is not working.. Can anyone help? this is really important.

It didn't open any TOSHIBA hdd recovery software...
The Choose-an-option screen is the recovery environment for Windows 8/10. Get used to it.
I have put all my files on other partitions
Best to put them on external media, of course.
We can't go any further until you disclose which computer you have. There is a label on the bottom.
If the machine did not come with Windows 10 installed, we need to know much more about what sort of upgrade you did.

  • Satellite Pro L550-17U PSLW9E - Win 7 64bit HDD recovery question

    Hi,
Basically when I recieved the laptop it had the Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit installed.
I created the backup disks as requested but the first disk got scratched and gets stuck on the install, I can install the 32 bit version (the CD it came with) and I've tried to create a new recovery disk via the 32 bit system but this just creates a 32 bit recovery disk (which I already had the proper disk).
Just seeing if there is any way to restore the 64 bit system without having to buy a new version of windows?

Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (pre-installed, Toshiba-HDD recovery) and
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit (Toshiba-Recovery DVD)

    Hi buddy,
The recovery disk that was delivered with your notebook contains *only* Windows 7 32bit version. That means if you install this version, you are able to create 32bit recovery disk but not 64bit. Therefore you would need the 64bit recovery disk.
In my opinion you can do nothing without ordering a 64bit recovery disk. Such disks can be ordered here:

I hope I could help you a little bit. :)

  • HDD recovery failed, Qosimo wont boot with BOOTMGR is missing

    Hi all,
i recently used the Toshiba HDD recovery thing to restore my laptop to factory settings, while it was doing this it popped up saying it failed, I restarted and boots up to Toshiba logo then comes to a screen with just BOOTMGR is missing ctrl alt del to restart. Anyone know how I can solve this so it will work once more?
    Laptop is Toshiba Qosimo X500 - 149
    Thanks
    Harry

    Hello Harry
HDD recovery image is screwed up and you will not be able to start it anymore. Only way to install Toshiba recovery image is to use recovery DVD. Have you created one following Toshiba recovery reminder?
    Here is original reminder message:
    +Important INFORMATION+
+Your system is equipped with hard disk recovery system. If you need to repair your computer by restoring it to original factory state, you can do it directly from harddisk (press F8 when you boot your computer, choose "Repair your computer" and follow the menue instructions) or create a bootable Recovery Disc Medium for this purpose.+
+*Toshiba recommends you to create Recovery Disc Medium using the "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator" to ensure that you are able to restore your computer to the original factory installed state, even if your computer gets seriously damaged.*+

  • Satellite T135 How to enter Safe Mode and HDD Recovery if "F8" doesn't work

    Hello everybody
I have a Toshiba Satellite T135 Laptop and it has recently crashed. Since then, every time I switch it on, Startup Repair automatically gets enabled. But it fails repairing the error.
I tried to resolve the problem with System Restore, but that didn't work either. So I think I have to go through the HDD recovery procedure.
The problem is, that I have a lot of data on my laptop that I need to safe first. I wanted to do this via Safe Mode which I supposedly should be able to enter by pressing "F8" while initializing, when the Windows logo appears. But my laptop doesn't react when I press F8, but rather begins to make a alerting sound, if I press the button for a longer time.
Apart from how to enter safe mode when pressing F8 while initializing doesn't work, I do have a second question: Is Toshiba Recovery Wizard the equivalent for HDD Recovery Procedure? That's the only similar option I've been able to find...
Thank you very much for your advice.

    Hi buddy,
Yes, the Toshiba HDD recovery option will wipe the *first* partition of HDD. Thats the partition where Windows is installed so all files on this partition will be deleted to restore the original out of box settings. If you have stored the data on this partition they will be deleted but all data on second partition will not be deleted.
You can perform a backup if you buy an external HDD case as MisterX suggested. Put the notebook HDD into this case and connect it to another computer. Then you can back up all files that you need. :)

  • HDD Recovery instead of Recovery Wizard

    Dear All,
I like to re-install the operation system on my Satellite Pro T130 laptop without changing the partitions. This is possible with the Recovery Wizard by http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R02.htm
However, when I start my laptop with the Advanced Boot Menu (F8), I find only the HDD Recovery menu in the System Recovery Options, no Recovery Wizard.
I tried to start this wizard by starting the computer with the zero (0) key from the top but it did not work. I shut down the windows, pushed and held 0, turned on my laptop, when Toshiba logo appeared I sill held the zero key and instead of the Recovery Wizard, the Windows started.
I tried it at least 10 times and it is getting frustrating.
I bought this laptop in Hungary in 2010.
I just wondering that Toshiba offers both (HDD Recovery + Recovery Wizard) of the recovery options on their laptops or the older laptops came with only HDD Recovery?
If the starting process with the zero key is not working, what can I do?
In addition, my understanding about the difference between HDD Recovery and Recovery Wizard is the following: (please correct me if I am wrong)
HDD Recovery is re-setting the manufacturer state that means that it deletes every data from every partition. When you turn on the laptop first time, a wizard will come up so you can partition the hard drive. Like the out-of-box+customizing option in the Recovery Wizard.
Recovery Wizard has three options: out-of box (described previously), customizing partitions and recovery without changing the hard drive partitions. I like to use this last option so it will delete all of the data from the first partition (C drive) on the hard drive. Will not touch data on other partitions like D, E (etc.) drives.
    Am I right?
    Thanks your answers,
    Kind Regards,
    Kardos52

    Hello
According notebook specification this Satellite Pro was offered with preinstalled Win7 version and WXP recovery DVD. Preinstalled Win7 version includes preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator tool so notebook owner can create recovery media (bootable USB stick) that includes original recovery image for Win7. This bootable USB stick can be used for recovery image installation if there is some problem with HDD recovery installation.
As I can see you have some problem with HDD recovery installation so my question is: have you created such recovery media? Do you have it and can you use it for Win7 installation?
    > However, when I start my laptop with the Advanced Boot Menu (F8), I find only the HDD Recovery menu in the System Recovery Options, no Recovery Wizard.
Toshiba HDD Recovery option in System recovery options will be available if notebook has factory settings only.
    > I tried to start this wizard by starting the computer with the zero (0) key from the top but it did not work. I shut down the windows, pushed and held 0, turned on my laptop, when Toshiba logo appeared I sill held the zero key and instead of the Recovery Wizard, the Windows started.
Why do you use zero at start-up? Where have you found description that you should use zro to start HDD recovery installation? As I can see in posted Toshiba document you should use F8 only. When you use F8 and enter Advanced boot options is option Repair my computer available or not?
    > I just wondering that Toshiba offers both (HDD Recovery + Recovery Wizard) of the recovery options on their laptops or the older laptops came with only HDD Recovery?
All Toshiba notebooks offered with preinstalled Win7 have Toshiba HDD recovery option but only if they have factory settings. If notebook owner install own OS version such option will not be available anymore. In this case you can install original recovery image using created recovery media.
From my experience you should use out-of-box option only. Be careful with other options. Recover to a custom size partition can result with losing all data and recovery image too.
Most important thing is: do you have recovery media (USB or DVD) or not?

  • HDD Recovery - Satellite P300-1GQ

Is it possible to perform recovery of factory default software or recovery to out-of-box state for my laptop Satellite P300-1GQ?
Ive used Toshiba HDD Recovery Tool and it only formatted the C partition leaving the partition D unchanged. Vista is running smoothly, all data on D partition are available. I could just format the partition D but the catch is that the folder titled HDD recovery is stored on D partition. Back in 2009 when I purchased my laptop I created the HDD Recovery DVDs as instructed. I could use them and format the entire hard disk but the information I got from the support technician in my country told me that the new HDD recovery folder would not be created.
I just want to wipe the entire drive and perform fresh installation, having again HDD recovery folder on D partition of the disk, in short: as it is now. Is this possible or not?

To be honest, the difference between the recovery DVD and a recovery HDD tool was confusing. Vista ran for 2,5 years before I had to reinstall it. And that was the moment when the confusion started.
I thought recovery DVDs I made 2,5 years ago should be used if and when a recovery HDD tool fails. And I thought those two options were going to do the same thing: format the entire drive i.e. return the laptop to factory settings (Ive done this countless times with XP and I know the drill).
But I was really surprised when I saw recovery HDD tool formatting only partition C (where Vista is). I thought I made a mistake (didnt check a box or something) and ran the process again.
But no, this tool only formats C i.e. the partition where OS is.
I checked the manual and there was no reference about formatting only one partition but the entire drive itself. In fact the description for both options (recovery DVD and a recovery HDD tool) where the same.
I think they forgot to mention what happens if you have two or more partitions.
Then I called support for Toshiba (in my country) and they told me that if I use the recovery DVDs I will return the laptop to factory settings but without HDD recovery folder on D. And again I was more confused :)
So, that is the reason why I asked you the second question :)

  • HDD recovery from a partition on Portege M300

    Hello
I reinstalled my win xp from another xp cd on a portege notebook m300 and did not burn an hdd recovery of the with the windows that thoshiba provided the computer with, its commen today that you burn your own backup instead of they sending you an original win xp cd. I want a backup cd/recovery cd now and I see that they partioned(or what its called) a seperate 2,5GB hd with the name "HDDRECOVERY".
This resulted that my windows got installed on E: cause it was a 2,5GB partioned HDspace that windows called C: and I could only pick E: to install win xp to and I didnt want to erase the 2,5gb partioned space. I toughed that I somehow could access this 2,5gb HD file but it dosent show in "my conputer" only in the disk managment tools windows have. You cant do anything in this manegmant tool to get it to show in "my computer". I would like to access this space and burn this HDDRecoveryfile so I can get my propriate windows that followed when I bought the computer since the win xp serial that is supplied under this cumputer did not work with my new win xp cd.
ps. How do you install windows on C: if the windows install program thinks C: is the 2,5gb partioned file? I dont want to delete it.

    Hello Andre
The situation with Portege M300 is a little bit complicated but I will try to explain you. Portege M300 (I think just in Germany) is delivered without Recovery DVD and also without Tools & Utilities CD. Both of them can be created by user but only if unit is factory preinstalled. The factory preinstalled unit with factory image contains one tool called Recovery Disc Creator. Using this tool you can create both medias. Without this tool there is no way to make it.
Unfortunately this tool you can not find on Toshiba download page. Because of that you can keep this partition on the HDD but it has no sense at all. You have your own preinstalled OS without Recovery Disc Creator.
    There are two solutions:
    1. You can format whole HDD, create own partitions and install own OS using all stuff you can find on Toshiba download page.
    2. Contact please authorized service partner in your country. They can try to order original recovery DVD for you. If this recovery DVD is not available the service partner can make factory settings again but with costs.
Thats all I know about Portege M300 and preinstalled software. If you have more questions please write again.
    Good luck!

  • Satellite L670 - System HDD Recovery does not start

    Hello together,
I have a problem with my Laptop. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit the laptop came with Win7 Home Premium 32bit.
Now I want to restore the original Windows Home Premium. On the laptop is a second partition with a folder named "HDD-Recovery".
When i hold the "0" button on start nothing happens. The System Recovery doesnt start.
Can you help my fix the problem.
    Thanks and regards,
    Dinder

    Hello together,
please read until end before starting recovery! After searching all the web I found a method to reset a Toshiba satellite L500-1UR to factory settings. Before I want to describe the approach I will summerize my starting situation.
I got the laptop from my brother. The boot manager was changed while another Windows Version was installed. So the option Toshiba HDDRecovery in the options of "repair computer" or the option itself after pressing F8 at boot time wasn't available. Fortunately, he didn't delete the "HDDRecovery" folder on its DATA partition, so all factory images were available. To install I needed a method to apply an image installation. This is possible with the Windows 7 recovery CD you can download it for example [here|http://digiex.net/downloads/download-center-2-0/applications/2659-windows-7-32-bit-x86-recovery-disc.html] .
Boot this CD, start a command prompt. The way to do this is described [here|http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/668-system-recovery-options.html] .
At command prompt you change to the partition with the HDDRecovery folder. At my brothers laptop it was:
    D:\HDDRecovery
In a sub-folder you will find the command line tool "imagex". At my brothers laptop it was located in:
    D:\HDDRecovery\ODDFiles\Tools
On the other hand, you need the image files. These files were located in
    D:\HDDRecovery\SWImg\
and ended with .swm . swm-files are splited wim-files, the Microsoft format for image files. For your problem you must locate your "imagex" and your swm-files. On my brothers laptop there were 6 files
    10656XSP.swm
    10656XSP2.swm
    10656XSP3.swm
    10656XSP4.swm
    10656XSP5.swm
    10656XSP6.swm
Now, the recovery is very easy:
change to folder were imagex is located. Here
    D:
    cd D:\HDDRecovery\ODDFiles\Tools
    1. format the WINDOWS partition (mostly C:) on the command line with
    format /fs:ntfs /q /V:WINDOWS
    2. Apply recovery image to C: with the command, for my brothers laptop:
    imagex /ref D:\HDDRecovery\SWImg\10656XSP*.swm /apply D:\HDDRecovery\SWImg\10656XSP.swm 2 C:\
the option /ref says imagex the location of the splitted images, expressed with a wildcard
the option /apply says imagex the location of the first image
the number "2" represents the second image inside of the swm-files, here the image for the WINDOWS partition
C:\ says imagex on which partition it should apply the image.
Perhaps your SYSTEM partition has to be reset to, so you have to do the same steps for it. I did it without formating it by:
    imagex /ref D:\HDDRecovery\SWImg\10656XSP*.swm /apply D:\HDDRecovery\SWImg\10656XSP.swm 1 C:\
WARNING: I found out the image number by executing:
    imagex /ref D:\HDDRecovery\SWImg\10656XSP*.swm /apply D:\HDDRecovery\SWImg\10656XSP.swm * C:\
The use of the wildcard (*) led to an error, so the command throw an XML-File plot were I found the correct image number for the partitions.
Now you have write back the factory image to your partition(s). Perhaps it is necessary to reinstall the bootmanager. If you get the error:
    "NO BOOTMGR"
at startup, you have to use the recovery CD a second time. Now, you can choose the option
"Startup Repair" in the same menu where you found the option "Command Prompt".
It will find out that no bootmanager is installed and will repair it.
So, I hope I could help anyone.
Last but not least, this describtion comes without warranty. I am not responsible for any errors or faults or lost data of your HDD. Please backup your important data to e.g. an external storage.
