Download update to install later

When I check for updates to my computer (Lion 10.7.2) it says there is an update, do I want to download and install.
The first time I said yes I was at home, and for a 12 hour download, I left it running all night. At 7 am I had a message saying to try again.
So I tried from the office. It was only an 8 hour download, so I thought I could make it. Again, at the end of the day, closing things to go home I found a message that it could not install.
Is there no "resume" feature? Or a way to just download securely, then install? I don't know if it wants me to be sitting here at the moment it finishes or what it happens, but I can't update.

Manually download them from http://support.apple.com/downloads/.

  • HT201413 I get error 20 when I try to download updates to installed Apple software  I have two users on the IMac. I resolve the problem by clearing all cookies on both users Safari. Why do I need to do this? What is going on?

I get Error 20 when I try to download updates for installed Apple apps on my IMac.  I have two users on the IMac, and I resolve the problem by clearing all cookies on both users Safari, opening and closing the App Store for each user, shutting down and restarting the IMac for each user, until finally the download works. There must be an easier way.  I also have an Air, where I have no problems whatsoever. Both machines have Doorstop and MacKeeper with the same settings, so I have ruled those programs out as the cause. I believe iot is because I have two users - any ideas?

Please read this whole message and be sure you understand all of it before doing anything. Back up all data before making changes to your settings.
    Write down the server addresses.
Click Cancel to close the Advanced sheet. Unlock the preference pane, if necessary, by clicking the lock icon in the lower left corner and entering your password. Open the DNS tab again and change the server addresses to the following:
    8.8.8.8
    8.8.4.4
That's Google DNS. Click OK, then Apply.
    In Safari, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If you’re using another browser, empty the cache. Test. Any difference?
    Notes:
    1. If you lose Internet access after making the above change to your network settings, delete the Google servers in the Network preference pane, then select the TCP/IP tab and click Renew DHCP Lease. That should restore the original DNS settings; otherwise restore them yourself.
    2. I’m not advocating Google or anything else as a DNS provider; the server addresses are offerred merely for testing purposes. There may be privacy and technical issues involved in using that service, which you should investigate personally before you decide whether to keep the settings. Other public DNS services exist.

  • IOS Update - Download now and install later?

When I was offered the newest iOS 5.0.1 update, I was also offered to only download it and not (yet?) update my iPhone. After all, it takes a while during which I can't use the phone.
So I thought it would be a good idea to just do the download (75 minutes!) and update my iPhone later.
However, when I came back today, I was offered an iTunes update. Okay.
Later today I connected my iPhone to the computer and clicked "update", but the previously downloaded iOS update was gone. Download started again. What did I do wrong? Or - what is a download-only function good for, if I can't continue later?
    Cheers
    Hinrich

What are we talking about, an OS upgrade (like to Mavericks?)
Yes you can download and quite the installer.  It will be located in your application folder.

  • Hard Drive Issues?! Can't download updates or install new apps

I have a power mac G5 with Mac OS X 10.5 installed. I am new to macs, but not to PC's in general.
My issue is this: I can download but not install/launch new applications. I've tried updating safari but the .pkg file won't open. I've tried a software update from the apple menu but it says there's a network error 1011 yet i'm online?! I tried a standalone download of a combo update but it stopped halfway through...I CANNOT DO ANYTHING!!!
The machine is working fine, no strange noises, I can work everything on the mac as it should (internet, itunes, calendar etc all fine).
Why can't I update my software and why can't I launch my new applications/programs that I've downloaded?
I downloaded a combo update to a usb from another machine and it started the install procedure but when it came to selecting the destination, my hard drive was not selectable and said 'You cannot install mac os x update combined to this volume. ERROR_INSTALL. Went to partition the hard drive as recommended, but I can't as it's the startup volume...HELP PLEASE!!

Hi Hannah, and a warm welcome to the forums & Macdom!
Is this the Combo you downloaded?
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • I can't download, update or install anything from the MAS

I recently paid for Mountain Lion from the MAS, but I click download and nothing happens. I left it for five hours, and still the download hasn't even started, or attempted to start. No Error messages have come up. So, I tried downloading a small free app. Same thing, MAS just wont start the download. I can navigate through the store, click and read things no problem. I go to my purchases tab and click the install and download tabs, but nothing. The updates tab is doing the same thing. I just paid $25 for a product I seeminly don't have any access to.
Please help, I know this is a known problem. But I can't find any solutions myself.
    Thanks,

    Trent...
If you have anti virus software installed, try disabling that before downloading software.

  • Mac Os 9.1 update wont install

Well I got the update from here
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75288
and when I transfered the file to the desktop it tells me this
"The documentMacOS_9.1Update.smi.bin[] could not be opened, because the application program that created it could not be found." My iMac is a G3 CRT and its running 9.0.4

    Hi, Frank -
One of the differences between OS 9 download updates and installing off of a CD is that the download updates do not include any ability to install or update Language Kits.
There is a major change of Language Kit versions betwen OS 9.0.4 (and earlier) and OS 9.1 (and later) - the earlier version Language Kits are not usable in OS 9.1. When using an OS 9.1 Install CD, any installed kits can be updated; however, since the OS 9.1 download updater does not include that ability, they will refuse to run.
The primary solution is to use an OS 9.0.4 or earlier OS 9 Install CD to remove the Language Kits. Since you apparently do not have such a CD, you will need to use a different method.
    • Restart the machine, immediately press the Option and Spacebar keys, keep them held down until the desktop has fully loaded. This will prevent the OS from loading any installed Language Kits.
    • Locate and open the System file - it is loose in the System Folder; just double-click that file.
    • In that file will appear three types of files: keyboard layouts, represented by a document icon with a glyph of a keyboard added to it; sound files, represented by a document icon with the glyph of a speaker added to it; and Worldscript files, represented by a document icon with the glyph of a globe added to it.
    • Drag all of the Worldscript files (the ones with a globe on the icon) out of the System file. You could save them in an external folder; but, since they will not be re-usable in OS 9.1 or later, there's little point in doing that - throwing them away is okay.
    • Close the System file, then do a normal restart.
You should now be able to install the OS 9.1 update.
Note - if you do need to have certain Language Kits installed, you will need to acquire a retail OS 9.1 Install CD - there is no other source for them (they are not available as downloads).

  • Windows 7 not downloading updates

I have an issue in downloading windows 7 updates.I m running 64 bit window 7 home basic edition. It always downloaded updates and install them itself.but suddenly it stopped doing so. I tried to download and install manually but no gain.--WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I DOWNLOAD UPDATES?  my windows shows 31 updates(231 mb) are found  when I download updates it starts downloading but its status remains OKB downloaded ( 0% total downloaded )  and few minutes later it shows ERROR CODE: 80246008. So, i ran troubleshoot. Also, I tried Microsoft Fixit, still no gain..Moreover, few days back i installed ccleaner and with the help of ccleaner i wiped my computer's cdive, I don't know If that created the issue.Need help

Alot of things don't make sense... 1. you say you download to install yet in the same reply you talk about letting it install. So which one is it?2. ccleaner is not the problem here... Most likely during the install something went wrong and you will have to roll back the update and or do a factory REstore to fix the problem and try again to update. Also I downloaded the MS update myself to do a offline install and had no problems doing so on Windows 7x64 Ult Sp1 version.

  • When trying to update Adobe Application Manager for PS CS5 and Camera Raw 6.7, I get a window stating "unable to install download, please try again later". There isn't an msg error, I can't list my serial number for this product and Customer Service 'sugg

Can I still get updates if I have not bought into the Cloud?

I don't know why you are getting these errors.  Try downloading & installing the updates manually from http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates.html

I cant update my software. It downloads updates , then says, 'an error has occurred and updates have not been installed'. I am now behind 6 months on updates. Any idea how to fix this?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Select "/var/log/install.log" from the file list. Post the messages from the last installation attempt, starting from the time when you launched the Installer or Software Update. Post the log text, please, not a screenshot.
If there are runs of runs of repeated messages, please post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.

  • IPod touch 4 gives message "Cannot Download" "there is not enough available storage to download...You can manage your storage in settings." when trying to update or install one but not all apps. I have more storage than the app takes. Can u help?

iPod touch 4 gives message "Cannot Download" "there is not enough available storage to download...You can manage your storage in settings." when trying to update or install one of the apps, but not other apps.  I have more space available than needed for the app.  What do I need to do to fix this problem?  Do I need to completely reset this device as new and, if so, how should I do that?

You need to delete some item (apps, music, photos etc) from the iPod,.However, sometime files get corrupt. To determine that connect the iPod to your computer and click on the iPod under Devices in iTunes. How much storage is used by the "other" category. If over 1 1/2 GB that indicates corrupted files.
To get the "other" down to normal value you need to restore your iPod usually restoring from backup works but sometimes restoring to factory settings.new iPod is required./

On my old iTunes sofwear iTune store would not open. I uninstalled iTunes and downloaded the new updates and installed it. Now I get a message that said " The file iTunes Libary.itl" cannot be read becouse it was created by a newer version of iTunes.I did everything it said to do inarticle HT1923 Removing and reinstalling iTunes, Quick Time, and other sofware components for Windows Vista or Windows 7. Now what?

Unless you've recently attempted to downgrade iTunes this is probably a sign of a corrupt library file. See Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash.

  • I recently did a system update and installed Yosemite on my Mac. Now I am unable to open CS5 at all. The error message I get is this: "To open Adobe Photoshop CS5.1, you need to install legacy Java SE 6 runtime." I have tried downloading this and it still

I recently did a system update and installed Yosemite on my Mac. Now I am unable to open CS5 at all. The error message I get is this: "To open Adobe Photoshop CS5.1, you need to install legacy Java SE 6 runtime." I have tried downloading this and it still gives me the same mess

In the details it is mentioned that it is an outdated version of Java.
Is this a security risk that i need to live with to get CS5 to run with Yosemite?
Also i need to reject messages from Java in the future about updates, or not?
    thx for any input
