  • At the request of firefox, I am continully downloading updates to firefox but non are registering ?

I have started to use firefox as my browser after a lapse of several months. This version is now old it seems and i have been asked by Firefox to update it.However evrery time i try it fails to register or it fails to be accepted by my computer, and Firefox omce again demands i update...

You should be able to update using
    * Firefox Button -> Help -> About Firefox -> [Update ] <br/> that will currently update you to the latest supported version of firefox 3.6 the point release is 3.6.23, and will soon be 3.6.24
    * If you wish to update to the current release Firefox 7.0.1 (Soon to become Firefox 8) download the install file
    ** for example from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/products/download.html
    * see [[Installing Firefox on Windows]]
** see also [[updating firefox]] & [[software update failed]]
You may need to ensure that you are using an admin account or have UAC set correctly, and that any security software is not blocking downloads or changes to the system.

  • Downloaded update for Firefox and now I can't get rid of AOL.

Downloaded update for Firefox and now I can't get rid of AOL. I have tried to delete anything associated with AOL and when restart Firefox.....there's AOL again. I even reinstalled Firefox.......there it was again.

Where does AOL show up -- home page?
I think the first thing to check is whether you have any AOL-related add-ons. These might override your regular settings. You can review and disable ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
Note that in most cases, you need to use the Restart Firefox link to actually deactivate the extension you chose to disable.
Next, to fix your home page, try the steps in this article: [[How to set the home page]].
If there is a problem with your search providers being switched from Google to AOL, try this extension:

Trying to download updates to Firefox 6.0.1 and am receiving error messages.

Which error messages do you get?
If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 6.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Downloading updates using Satellite broadband

I have recently moved "out bush" and now have to use a Activ8 satellite connection. When downloading updates I get a message that the digital signal is incorrect and may have been tampered with or corrupted since being signed by Apple. Whenever I return to the city I have no problem downloading updates using cable broadband. The satellite company were unable to assist. It would be great if anyone can suggest what the issue may be and a solution.

Does the satellite broadband service provider have a support website with user discussions such as these? Fellow users are generally much more helpful than tech support! Also have you done an internet search as well?

  • I have downloaded updates for Firefox but my browser doesn't look like it should, no single menu button etc, how do I get it to look like your demo?

The last few times I have been prompted to update my firefox for desktop, my browser has not looked any different even though I get notification to say updates completed successfully. When I update firefox gives a demo of new features and how my browser should look, mine has not looked like the demo for the past few updates. It's annoying because I really like the look of having just one menu button. How can I change the look of my browser?

The Firefox button displays by default only in Windows Vista and Windows 7. You '''''can''''' have it display in Windows XP
    '''Menu Bar'''<br />
*right-click empty space at the end of the Tab Bar, click "Menu Bar" to place a checkmark
*Menu Bar checked = Menu Bar on; Firefox button off
*Menu Bar un-checked = Menu Bar off; Firefox button on
*Other methods of doing the same:
**click Firefox button > Options, click Menu Bar
**Quick toggle Menu Bar on/off: ALT+V+T+M
To have the Menu Bar '''''temporarily''''' display when the Firefox button is on, press the ALT key or the F10 key to make the Menu Bar appear and use your mouse to make selections from the temporarily displayed Menu Bar. Why would you want to do this? The selections available are different.

  • Unable to download itunes using firefox on windows 7

I'm using windows 7 and when I click the download link on http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ it brings up the prompt to save and I click save but there is no download performed - the file does not exist and is not listed in the "Downloads" drop down option.
Apple assumes it's downloaded http://www.apple.com/confirm/itunes/thankyou.html and states "Now that you’ve downloaded iTunes, you’re just a few steps away from starting a digital entertainment collection and enjoying it on your Mac, PC, iPad, iPhone, or iPod."
HELLO the download did not occur.
Most site will offer a link that states - if your download did not begin click here and have a means to start it again but not Apple they are sure it's done.
Any one out there know what's wrong with the download page or a way to get iTunes from another source on apple's site?
    -edit moments later
That "thankyou.html" page loading before the end of me clicking save and selecting where it's saving was causing the download to not initiate properly
I saved it as quickly as I could and surprisingly the download succeeded to begin.
Apple website developers should be notified of that error/behavior so it can be fixed - simply don't load the thankyou.html page until the install is completed maybe

See my response in the I am unable to download iTunes with Windows XP using firefox?  I am told it's a binary file and tells me to "save" it.  Once downloaded it does not open up.  Anyone have any ideas why? thread.

  • Can't download updates using software update or from apple's site

I just got my mac about a week ago. i am trying to download the updates using software update, but they only partially download. After awhile, I get an error message (-1001) that says to check the network connection and try again later. I have tried several times and I still get the same thing. Also, when i try to download the updates from Apple's site, they only partially download as well and then it says they "timed out". This is happening with all downloads i have attempted. The download speeds start out around 150 kb/s but then just start to drop and the download times out. I have to keep stopping and restarting the downloads to get them to finish which gets annoying when the file is large. Any suggestions???
    Thanks

I am connected to the internet via a wireless network set up in my home. There are two other PCs connected to the network, one a desktop and the other a laptop. Neither have had any problems using or connecting to the internet. I have a DSL connection. I have tried to directly connect with the router with an ethernet cable, but the same thing happens.

  • Unable to open any kind of file once I have downloaded it using Firefox 4

I have noticed that, since switching to Firefox 4, I am having trouble opening files (ANY kind of file) either straight from the link or after downloading and saving them to my hard drive while using firefox (for instance, Word, Powerpoint, or Adobe documents from my school's curriculum page) . I get an error message when I open them, with the intended application usually telling me that the "file cannot be opened." When I try to download the same files using Safari, they download and open just fine. What's really weird is that I don't have this problem all the time. Sometimes I will try to download a file and I will get an error message, and then 30 minutes later after making NO changes, it will download and open just fine. I have the problem more often then not, though. I have noticed this happen on several different wireless networks.
    Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

To get any plugins out of the troubleshooting equation, hold down the Shift key and start Photoshop. If Photoshop functions normally, you'll want to look at those.
There is the keyboard method of resetting Preferences and there is moving or deleting the actual preferences folder as described here:
FAQ: How do I reset my preferences?
For some that solves the problem where the keyboard reset did not.
In any case, being forum volunteers, we would not be able to access your computer the way Adobe Support can. We do well for many problems, and that saves time for a great many, but there are cases where the problem might some place unfamiliar to a lot of us.
If nothing can get done here, I hope Chat can do better.

  • Preventing a downloaded update for Firefox

    ''locking as a duplicate - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/886499''
Lets say, Firefox ignored your autoupdate settings, and wants to update anyway, like here:
Firefox 6 ignores prevent update settings | Firefox Support Forum | Firefox Help - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/886499
Now, I have not restarted yet, and I still have Firefox 6. If I restart, I'll have Firefox 7 WHICH I '''DO NOT''' WANT! The "Software Update" window still shows, and of course there is no cancel button there.
Is there a way (such as killing the Firefox process) that I can shut down Firefox, so that next time I start it, it will NOT update, but give me the old version?

  • I have been attempting to downloads updates to Firefox, and with every attempt the furthest I get is "connecting to update server". Cannot get past that to the actual download.

I get info from Firefox that updates are available, or I go their website to get the latest updates. When the process starts, I get to a screen that says that I am connecting to the server. Nothing ever gets beyond this screen.

    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update (Software Update not working properly)
Remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder.<br />
You may need to delete active-update.xml and updates.xml as well if present.
    Vista:
    C:\Users\&lt;user&gt;\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates
    (%LOCALAPPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox)
If you have problems with updating then easiest is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
You may need to remove the Firefox program folder to do a clean install of the new version.
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html

  • I can't download updates for Firefox (which is causing problems,) because Bitdefender 2011 says it's toolbar is incompatible or something. :( Any suggestions?

I'm having trouble with internet speed/crashing/"timing out"/etc., and keep getting reminders to update Firefox, but every time I try to update it, it goes through the motions, and then Bitdefender 2011 gives me a message saying that Firefox's toolbar is incompatible or something, and so it wasn't installed. :(
Is anyone else having this problem, and, if so, is there a way to update Firefox WITHOUT taking virus protection off of my computer, or having to change to Explorer or Safari?
My ISP told me that I should update my DSL box and router to THEIR newest version (at CenturyLink,) and use Explorer, and that would take care of the problem. :(
I'm not sure about the DSL box and Netgear WIFI's connection to Explorer vs. Firefox, but I have always heard that Explorer had a higher virus rate than Firefox or Safari, so...really don't WANT to switch if I can possibly FIX the constant problems. :(
ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated!
    Thank you!

  • Having trouble with downloading updates for Firefox 4

I am using Mac OS X latest version operating system. I have replaced my latest version of Safari with the latest version of Firefox. When I click on "Update Firefox", the status bar does not show the progress of the update. I let it run with no other programs running in the background. I then get an error message stating "There was a problem loading the update". I am unclear as to how I should proceed. Thank you for your time and I appreciate any assistance!

In Firefox 3.6.4 and later the default connection settings have been changed to "Use the system proxy settings".<br />
See "Firefox connection settings" in [[Server not found]]
You can find the connection settings in "Tools > Options > Advanced : Network : Connection"<br />
If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then select No Proxy
