Download vs. retail

I live overseas and just downloaded the trial version of Iworks 09. I have decided to buy it but have a question about whether to buy the retail or just pay for a serial number from the apple site. When I went to the buy site from the program it gave me the option of buying a serial number or a retail version. Under the retail version it said that it included manuals and sample projects. This makes me wonder if I just buy the serial number that I will miss out on content included in the retail version. Anyone have any experience or info. on this? I live in a location where apple is not very common so it would take me several weeks to buy a retail verse (actually would have to have someone mail it to me from USA)

There is no difference at all in the software.
The retail disk self registerers ie. you do not need a license number it's built in.
The Downloaded Trial needs the registration Numbers or buy the disk and drop it in the drive.
I purchased the registration numbers because my trial was going to run out before the disks were even in the Country

Download vs retail purchase

Hi all,
I was under the impression that if you bought Photoshop Elements, you received both the Windows AND the Mac versions. I looked at the retail media at Best Buy and saw it has both versions. I assumed that if I bought it through the Adobe Store, it would be the same. I bought PE through the Adobe Store, but only see the Windows version. This past weekend, I bought my first Macbook and want to install PE on it. How do I get the license key for the Mac version? I am no longer using my old Windows machine.

Does any one know what is the difference between the downloadable "Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0) Enterprise/Standard Edition for Microsoft Windows (32-bit)" application from the Oracle site against the one that is retailed?

If you download the product it comes with a document called license. Didn't you read that?
Oh I forgot, you are only paid to hit buttons.
If you download the product you can always get a license afterwards, by contacting your friendly salesrep at Oracle.
Oracle has all information on this available on their site. Oracle is not about rocket science, but about not being lazy.
Right now questions here are mostly asked by people, who like you, absolutely don't read anything, and ask one redundant question after another.
And yes, the difference is zero, nada, niente, nothing, niks, nichts, nullus.

Differences between Download vs Retail Box

I took the plunge and bought the download version yesterday. The Adobe Store says the CS4 Production Premium download was 19GB on the order page but after purchase, the size of the various files amounts to roughly 8GB. So my question is what does the retail box offer other than install discs and manuals that download doesnt? I know for CS3 we got a video workshop disc compromised of Lynda tutorials but Adobe has not provided an updated site with CS4 videos similar to what was offered in CS3.
Anyone have any idea?

No, not the same. The Workshop was an Adobe hosted video portal for the various tutorials for CS3 Products that shipped as a disc as well. It doesnt make any sense why the store says its a 19GB download and what is actually downloaded is only 8GB. There must be some missing content somewhere.

I have CS 5 and lost it due to a hard drive wipe...reinstall assitance?

I had to have my mac book pro's hard drive wiped and now I am reinstalling everything. I cannot get the CS5 to reinstall. I get the point where it asks for my serial numbers, I put them in and then I am told "your number is recognized" but it can't find the program, huh. I have put in adobe acrobat reader 9 without a hitch, but this second disc won't progress.
Please help! All the work for my studio is not accessible without getting the program back on my computer!

Hanyne in what way are you denied access? Are you downloading the retail installation files from Download CS5 products? If so then please make sure your browser is accepting cookies from Adobe.com.

GE70 and Windows 8.1 Update

Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone has managed to update their GE70 running a pre-installed Windows 8 64bit to the Windows 8.1 that Microsoft rolled out.
The update shows up in the Store but download doesn't seem to start.
I tried downloading the ISO using my product key but apparently I can't use it to download a retail version.
Any insight/advice would be much appreciated.

Sort of. I did not try the update on the pre-loaded Win8, in fact I formatted my GE70-20E within 5 minutes of opening the box and loaded a clean install of Windows 8 Professional.
I then installed 8.1 the day it came out without any trouble since.
I do know that if you'd loaded 8.1 preview you may have to start over, that is not a notebook or MSI thing though.

Windows 7 won't boot, during or after installation, only through the Windows DVD

I've been trying to install Windows 7 on a Macbook Pro 15'' (Mid 2010) through Boot Camp. The OS X version is Mountain Lion (the notebook was bought with Snow Leopard, and I got Lion and Mountain Lion through the Mac App Store). I don't have a physical Windows 7 DVD, but I have valid and genuine serials (seriously), so I downloaded a retail copy through this article (http://arstechnica.com/features/2012/06/blowing-away-bloatware-a-guide-to-reinst alling-windows-on-a-new-pc/), burned it with Disk Utility (in 2x - I've read reports of people complaining that maximum speex, 8x, could bring problems), and used Boot Camp Assistant to install. The Assistant downloaded the drivers and burned them to a DVD, and also began the Windows installing smoothly.
Here's the problem, though: when Windows does its first reboot throught the installation process, the Mac stops at a grey screen with a flashing question mark (as if indicating that it doesn't know how to boot). To fix that, I restart and hold the option key, and then select to boot FROM THE WINDOWS DVD - then the installation continues from where it left off. It then reboots once more, where I get stuck at the same point - flashing question mark. If I repeat the process one more time, it finishes the installation just fine. If I try to restart the machine, however, it doesn't boot to Windows - I get stuck at the same flashing question mark. To boot into Windows sucessfully, I've got to hold the option key, and select for it to boot from the Windows DVD - if I try to boot from the windows partition, the problem repeats itself.
Can anyone share some knowledge about this? I looked through the web like crazy, but amazingly, this does not seem to be a common problem people have when installing Windows on Macs.
Just as a heads up, I installed Boot Camp on Windows (the DVD created through the Boot Camp Assistant with the most recent files downloaded straight from Apple) to see if it would fix the problem, but it didn't. I also downloaded 5 different iso's for Windows 7, making sure they were untouched/MSDN/full retail versions and burned them through Disk Utility at 2x, and trying to install them reproduces the very same error I just described.

SP1 has been trouble for some Macs. Don't know so don't ask why. Pre-SP1 then worked fine.
Try Windows 8 Preview.
Some people use VirtualBox, install there, and use VB and windows native tools to burn the DVD.
Once you’ve downloaded the ISO for your Windows edition and bit-ness, you can either burn it to a DVD using Windows 7's built-in DVD burning tool or copy it to a USB drive using Microsoft’s Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool—our guide will help you through it step-by-step.
Because it sounds like even though you used 2x that it is not a good DVD. Or DVD media/brand. Or the Superdrive - which has to be internal on your model unless you're hacking the USB-DVD driver plist.
