Downloadable Widgets from Apple

Hi everyone. I'm about to get my MacBook Pro and I noticed that you can download widgets from Apple.com and I wanted to know if these are "guaranteed" by Apple or what the story is. Are they spyware/adware free? Has anyone ever seen spyware/adware come through them? Thanks.

PS: I know Macs are less susceptible to adware and spyware but I'm not sure if the widgets can carry them. I'm finally making the switch from PC and can't wait for the reduced spyware/adware issues!

Thank you so much for all of your help! I can't wait to enter the world of Macintosh and get this piece of crap Dell PC off my desk. Also, I don't know if anyone has heard, but the new Windows Vista, scheduled to be released in October, is going to include a feature called "Desktop Gadgets" and I'm slightly offended. How dare Windows steal this wonderful addition to MacOS and call it their own. I hope Apple sues them. Thanks again!

What happens when you try to install the widget? If you get a message that the app comes from an unidentified developer, Gatekeeper is preventing you to install the widget > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5290
To install the widget, there are two ways:
1. Right-click the installer and choose "Open".
2. Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General, and choose "Anywhere" under "Allow applications downloaded from"

go to system preferences - security and privacy - under allow applications downloaded from - click on anywhere.

That's a security measure to prevent others from buying Apps without actually knowing the password for your AppleID, for example, kids, "friends", etc.

+ restore DVD, or is that missing? The original disc set usually would include
the extra applications not found on a retail version OS X install DVD; and a
bonus is the original software kit included the version Apple Hardware Test
for your computer model. This also is not included in a retail OS X install DVD.
If you have your computer serial number and model information available,
and try calling Apple (main number, not local store) and ask to speak to an
Operating System Specialist, when you get someone matching that position
on the phone ask what they can do for you regarding a Replacement DVD
install disc for a system that can run in your computer.
If your computer shipped with a Tiger version, that would have been originally
on a grey-label DVD set include with the computer, with a part number on it.
A replacement may be harder to get, than say, a white label Replacement
DVD install disc for Leopard 10.5. There had been a white label non-retail
full install version of both Tiger and Leopard, available for a time from Apple
sales support main numbers (or applecare?) for a reasonable fee. Maybe still.
Perhaps if one kind of replacement system disc is not available, they may
have some other option at Apple. The main store number may not be the
correct place to ask, but they may be able to redirect you to an OS Specialist.
(in US 1-800-MY-APPLE is the main #. There is another number I don't recall.)

What MacBook Pro model do you have? Check the apple, left side of the menu bar, About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware and then the Model Identifier...has to be at least MacBook Pro3,1 to install Mavericks.

You're gonna have to figure out a way to call AppleCare...there is no AppleCare where you live...somewhere, & ask to talk to "Account Security". Here's a list of worldwide support numbers:

Error occuring when trying to download movie from apple tv

When ever I rent a movie from apple tv an error occurs when I go to downlaod it. The error just says that the movie cant download right now, try again later. Even after numerous attempts the movie still wont download. This had been happening for months and I've just been watching movies from netflix. I'm being charged for movies I can't even watch! How can I fix this problem?

iTunes HD content requires 6mbps (SD would be 3mbps)
Netflix uses variable bit-rate so it simply degrades on slower connections
iTunes content waits to play until enough has buffered for playback without interupption

Facing error updating iPhoto and downloading xCode from Apple store

hi there,
im trying to update my iPhoto, it was downloading perfectly well for more than an hour, then when i came back to check on its' progress it has stopped downloading and the message "An error has occured" was next to it, tried to update it several times but no use, any idea why it happened? and how can i solve it?
on the other hand i'm trying to download xCode application from Apple store, it has been more than couple of hours and it's still "Waiting..." to download, it keeps freezing on "waiting", this is my third time deleting it and redownloading it again. any solutions?

Have you tried quitting the App Store program and restarting it? Have you tried restarting your computer?

You probably already fixed the issue with a restore, but this issue seems to be resolved very simply (at least on the iPhone) by going to SETTINGS | GENERAL | RESET and choosing "Reset All Settings" (note that choosing to reset your "settings" does not erase any of your data, apps, etc).

Figured that since iPhones and iPads are pretty much the same, that this might just work for the iPads, as well.
