As to iWork:
Word Processing documents can be opened directly only in Pages.
Draw Documents can be opened directly only in EazyDraw (the more expensive version from their website, not the cheaper one from the Mac App Store).
Spreadsheets can be opened directly only in Numbers.
Presentations can be opened directly only in Keynote.
To use other programs, or open Painting or Database documents at all, you must export from AppleWorks first. Nothing will import AppleWorks databases: the only way to deal with them is to export them to ASCII text (of course you need AW running to be able to do this) and open them in a database program - the best choices are Bento for very simple databases or FileMaker Pro - please see these pages:

Correct. Applications designed to run on the old PPC Macs (which Apple stopped making in 2005) cannot run on Mountain Lion.

I am running Lion (OS X 10.7.4) and trying to reinstall iLife06, a .mpkg file, using Installer.app. I get a message "You can't open the application iLife06.mpkg because PowerPC apps are no longer supported." Is there a work around?? Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided.
The only workaround would be to purchase the current version of iLife apps from the App Store.
Lion doesn't support the old PowerPC architecture anymore, which is what iLife '06 was written for.
If the internal apps are universal, right-click on the mpkg and choose Show Contents. Then, dig through and run the specific installer package for each application. -
I spent ages digging out the disc as it was installed on my old iMac and it clearly states that it does not require a Power PC.
I also tried upgrading to imovie 11 but all my old movies won't import.
I've heard from others in these forums that iMovie 6 is the only way to resolve this and people have described how they are running it on Lion.

You must have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite and will not work in Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion.

I upgraded my computer to 10.8, and now PowerPC applications won't work. I have Quicken 2006, and I need a way to run it. Is there a software or anything that I can run it with? Or can I find the files on my computer somewhere and put them into a newer version of Quicken, such as 2013?
You can install Snow Leopard on an external disk, then boot to that to use your PowerPC apps.
Or, you can upgrade the Apps to versions that are Intel or Universal. Quicken 2007 was recently updated to a Universal version--it only took them about five years. -

System Automatically notified me of an update for Safari - told it to continue. After a few seconds, the system displayed about 12-14 error messages:

Perhaps you need to update from 10.7.1 to 10.7.5 if you can before trying to install the Safari update.
If you do update to 10.7.5, make sure you have good backups available. -
Shortly after upgrading to version 10.7, I installed an application that was not compatable with the LION operating system. The application was for an external Maxtor hard drive that appearantly was intened for an earlier Mac operating system.
Now I get the popup "You can't open the application NotificationExec because PowerPC applications are no longer supported" about every 10 seconds.
How to I get rid of this.
There is nothing to Force Quit. The process (if it is a process) does not show up in Activity Monitor. I have also tried to use the KILLALL command but no process is found by that name.Absolutely frustrated by the same problem, just lost 3 hours of my day trying to uninstall after getting the same error message. I upgraded to Lion a few weeks back and everything has been working fine. Today while on internet I keep getting a message you can't open the application ASExecute because PowerPC Applications are no longer supported. It seems to happen when I am on EMusic site downloading music. I can find no reference to ASExecute on Google or on my iMac. However the music is still downloading. Should I just ignore it? Any suggestions appreciated...

It ocurred for me when I was downloading emusic files through the "eMusic Download Manager" app. The files downloaded fine, but they never automatically imported to iTunes. So...I'm guessing "ASExecute" might be an app launched by eMusic manager when it finishes downloading?

The installer is for a PowerPC-based Mac, last produced in 2006.
Often, that software is just a "reader" that displays a menu of items to select from. The files themselves are in folders on the disk and you may be able to access them without using the installer. -

I have Lion OS X 10.7 on my MacBook Pro 15'' and I've tried to install an application for an external Maxtor hard drive.
But it seems to be compatable only with previous Operating Systems because now every 5 seconds I get the popup
"You can't open the application NotificationExec because PowerPC applications are no longer supported".
I have deleted all the applications of the external hard drive from the Applications folder, and from the trash as well.
But it doesn't help because the message is continuing to pop-up.
Please help me somehow.I had already formatted the external Maxtor external hard drive but it didn't help because the problem came when after formatting I tried to install an application (belonging to Maxtor) to the MacBook. The application was meant for an operating system previous to Lion.
The solution is to remove everything belonging to Maxtor from your Mac.
I deleted the Maxtor application from the Applications folder, but it wasn't enough. After struggling in google I found this solution and it worked!
HERE IS THE SOLUTION:
First remove all the Maxtor applications you've installed from the Applications folder (just trash them and empty the trash).
Then go to Finder and from Macintosh HD -> Library -> Driver Support -> DELETE THE MAXTOR APPSYOU FIND IN THIS FOLDER AND EMPTY THE TRASH !
But the Library folder is hidden, so if you don't know how to find it (I don't remember exactly because I did it at 1 am at night in the desperation after looking for the solutions in many forums for hours) you can go to Helpand write library, then from All Help -> what is the Library folder? and there it is explained!
Now you are free!!!
