Downloaded 2 songs from itunes, when ipod updated all my music disappeared!

OK I haven't downloaded v7 yet. However I have a problem. I downloaded a couple of tunes from iTunes in the same way I have done for a couple of years now. I plug in my ipod to update the library and get a message saying it can't find a whole bunch of songs. Songs I already have and have had on my pod for ages. So once it finished updating, I have the 3 songs I downloaded tonight on it and no more. In iTunes, all my songs are still there, they are still on my hard drive in the right place but they're no longer in my iPod or in my playlists!
How can I get them back onto my iPod? They were all there till tonight and I have no idea what I have done wrong if anything, as I just did the same as always when downloading from itunes. All the music is still in the usual folder (my documents/itunes/music or something like that) so how the **** do I get the music I HAVE PAID FOR back onto my ipod??? Thanks!

Is your iPod configured to sync these tracks? How do you have your iPod set up to sync music from your iTunes library?

It's not supposed to do that especially when you're only deleting one song. Has anyone had this happen? It wasn't music that I bought from the iTunes store it was off cds.

Create a iTune and App Store account without credit card
1. Go to App Store and select a free app
2. Tap INSTALL APP
3. Create New Apple ID
4. Confirm Your Country
5. Agree with Terms and Conditions
6. Fill in your Apple ID and Password (must be a valid email address)

Why is it that whenever I download a song from Itunes that a small grey round button appears next to the song (apparently this is the download progress button), but when I press on it to resume, the song disappears. This wasn't happening before.

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:

Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

thanks for the reply. guess i'll have to do that. apple, not really happy with what you've done with this latest update. have not been able to enjoy my music in my car since the update. most of us dont mind changes that progress timely, but this was much more than just a progression. this was a complete change. and not a good one, at all. thanks to the two people that replied. appreciate it.

I downloaded one song from itunes store yesterday. I accomplished it accidentally. Does anyone know how to easily download one song directly to ipod.

Thanks for your response. I downloaded a "free" tv show from itunes and it definitely does NOT work on my ipod. Tried it out on two different computers. Also tried another purchased tv show from itunes I had bought. Says it's wrong format. Just tried streamclip software and the m4v is not even a compatible file for the software. Help!
All video content purchased through the iTunes Store
is compatible with the iPod. I would suspect that
it is your video podcasts that are a problem. They
probably need to be converted to an iPod compatible
format before they can be transferred to the iPod.
I would try using software such as MPEG Streamclip to
convert your incompatible video files.

Try this and see if it helps. Refresh your iTunes account. Sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try to purchase again.

Plug the white USB cord into your iPod and the USB side into your computer. Your iPod should come up in iTunes. Then, select either playlists or songs (once you see the screen, you'll figure it out, I'm sure) and sync your iPod. If there is any other specific issue, please outline it for us. Transferring songs from ITunes to IPod Nano

I have IPod Nano 5th Generation, and the latest IMac operating system.
Had no problems until today, because yesterday I downloaded the brand new ITunes 11.0 (163). Trying to transfer songs from ITunes to my IPod Nano. Not sure if I should submit this question in the ITunes section or the IPod Nano section, so did both.
ITunes used to - until today - show my device (IPod Nano and its playlists) on the left side column of ITunes, above the ITunes playlists. So I could just click on a ITunes song on one of the ITunes playlists and drag that song into one of the IPod Nano playlists above it. Now with this new version of ITunes nothing shows up on the left side, so I have no way of dragging songs from ITunes to IPod Nano. An IPod Nano icon does appear on my desktop, but clicking on it or its contents does not show any IPod Nano playlists. I could click on the IPod Nano icon on my desktop and then click on "all files" on top. There is an area that shows all the IPod Nano songs (I think), but it does not show the IPod Nano playlists.
1) How do I get the IPod Nano playlists to show?
2) Please advise how to transfer songs from ITunes to IPod Nano playlists when using this new ITunes 11.0.
3) If this cannot be done, is there a way for me to go back and reinstall the previous version of ITunes?

I don't think the late/great Steve Jobs had this "new and improved" version of ITunes to be so darn frustrating. It used to be relatively simple to put songs into a playlist or to import purchased songs from ITunes into an Apple device such as the IPOD Nano. "Simple" used to be the selling point of Apple products. What happened? With this new version, I feel like I've got to contact Apple Support to do simple tasks. It seems like I'm not the only person having this problem.

Cant put songs from itunes to ipod, i have itunes on my computer at my house and i have i tunes on my computer at work.
It will only let me have songs either from my house or my work not both, if i try to drag the songs into the ipod symbol it wont let me put it in my ipod

If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer (As in your case where you have one at home and one you use at work) you can change the update preference to "manually manage songs and playlists. By doing this, you can listen to your iPod at work where you may have iTunes but no songs or a different set of songs on the computer.

No, but you should always have a backup just in case something goes wrong, whether or not you are updating anything.
