Downloaded 3.6version can,t open certain folders

after responding to a pop up,I downloaded to the (3.6?)and after doing so,I cannot open the individual folders in "my documents"to enter data

Can't open certain folders in Finder. Please help!

I recently upgraded from my old PowerBook G4 to a MacBook Pro, and certain folders that I transferred via flash drive from my old computer won't open. When I double click any of these folders, the Finder window immediately closes and then all the icons on my desktop disappear and reappear (after about half a second). This is really starting to get on my nerves! I know that the contents of these folders are intact, because I can see them in the "Open..." dialog in certain programs, but I can't view them in the Finder, so I can't move, copy, or do much else with them. Does anybody know what I can do about this? I would be eternally grateful for any help.

Incidentally, another thing I did was expand one of the offending folders in List view in my Documents folder, so I actually can't even open my Documents folder in Finder. In other words, say I had a folder in my Documents folder called "Pix". In the List view of the Documents folder, I clicked the arrow next to "Pix" and since that expanded "Pix," which I can't seem to open, it shut down the Finder window. So now whenever I try to open my Documents folder, it shuts down the window, since it's also trying to open the (expanded) "Pix" folder. A stopgap measure for un-expanding that folder would also be appreciated, if anybody has any smart ideas.

I have moved & renamed photos.
All else is pointless now. You need to either 1. Return things to the way they were or 2. Create a new library and start over.
iPhoto is a database and records the pics by their path. So if you change that, then iPhoto loses them. You do ALL your work in the iPhoto Window.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
Other options include:
1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

Segmentation Fault - Can't open any folders

I have a new MB Air (late 2010) running OSX 10.6.6. Everything has been great until yesterday.
As of yesterday I can not open any folders/Finder. I can run applications though. When I try to open folders on my desktop (Mac HD), Trash, Finder, etc. all I get is the screen flashes and then nothing happens.
I can't think of anything that I've downloaded/installed lately that would be an issue. Last thing I downloaded was Dropbox and Echofon Lite from Mac Store but I've used them both for the last 2 weeks and didn't have any problems.
I've investigated a little and found the following logs:

+I had to log in via "Root" user in order to find that file and trash it because I couldn't open Finder via those accounts.+
I missed that. You could have done it without logging in as root, but that's OK.

No way of knowing. Application preference files get corrupted sometimes, and then the application will crash or behave unexpectedly. That goes for any application, not just the Finder.

Odonnells52 you will still need to install Adobe Acrobat Professional prior to being able to make edits to PDF or utilize Acrobat. By default the installation files have been saved to your download folder.

You can also download the installation files directly from Download Acrobat products | Standard, Pro | XI, X if you are unable to locate the downloaded installation files.

Can't open certain images in iPhoto

Hello. Ever since I installed iLife'06, I can't open certain thumbnails in iPhoto. They are there, you can see them, but if you double click them to open them, you get the 'searching' ring forever. I made a duplicate of one of the thumbnails, and it opened fine after that. What's up?

You should update to 10.4.6. It completely fixed this problem for me.

Select that folder, choose Get Info from the File menu, and give yourself read access under Sharing & Permissions. This shouldn't be done on folders in system directories.

I just got an iMac and have began to use Safari. I really like it.. but oddly, I can't open certain pages that I can on other browsers. (tested this).

On the xbox log in, I get redirected to the link I provided which just shows a blank white screen with the Microsoft Inc. in green at the top of the URL bar. I get redirected after going to xbox.com -> sign in (at the top right). Cannot understand why.
For mlb.com, I only load the banner in 'gameday', opposed to the reviews, previews, box score, etc.
Makes no sense because on this same Mac, Chrome and Firefox can load these pages.

Actually, there seems to be a bit of a bug. Encountered this with a couple of files my wife made. The files were set to "open with" the new Keynote, but clicking the file brought up this error. Right-clicking and selecting "open with..." worked correctly. I can only assume the OS was attempting to open the file with Keynote '09 despite the file property setting.
Probably requires a Launch Services DB reset (although I haven't actually tried it on my wife's MBA yet...since she's still "working on stuff". So I can't confirm if it will solve the problem).

I can't open some folders anymore

Hi everyone
Since some couple of months, i can't open some folders on my macbook air and pro anymore. when I try to open some folders, than every icon disappears, and I am at the some place I was before. The folders exist, because when I try to open some files from the search bar, it works, but I can search the files into the folder!
Did anyone have a similar problem?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
          SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
          View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process (Finder). For example, if iTunes crashed, you would enter "iTunes" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

In the Console window, select
          DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

While in AKO, I can't open certain e-mails ERROR: blockedhttps?

While in my AKO e-mail, I can't open certain links because I get an error that says blockedhttps. This has been going on for at least a year.
Help. Very frustrating. I've asked other AKO user and they experience the same thing.

If you float your mouse over the link and glance down at the status bar, does it show the word blocked run in with the URL like blockedhttp:// or blockedhttps:// (followed by the destination)?
I'm guessing that there's a script that is supposed to "unblock" the URLs and the script doesn't work correctly on Firefox. That's just speculation because I don't have an account so I can't test.
As a possible workaround, right-click the link and choose Copy Link Location. Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab, then press Cltr+v to paste the link into the location bar where you can edit it before pressing Enter to load the link. That's a hassle, but I'm reluctant to suggest hacking the page... don't want to get anyone in trouble.

Is there any timeline soon that apple users will be able to open things that need adobe flash player? I can not even play any games on Facebook, I can't open certain files, pictures sent to me or things like forms I news to see when I am not home

I am so frustrated about Adobe Flash player. I can not play any Facebook games, open certain files and pictures and documents that I need to access because not only does this phone not do it but my old Palm Pre couldn't do it either. I have had so many times where I needed to access things either online or via email, or message that I can not even look at because of this. I have to wait until I for home or ask someone else to do it for me which is embarrassing. I rave about my iPhone 4S all the time because it is truly great except for this. When it use to happen with my Pal Pre I figures once I got my iPhone that it wouldn't happen anymore but I guess I was completely wrong. I have had this problem for years and always get a message saying that it's being worked on. Well a couple of years is a long time to work on it. I understand about contracts and stuff but why is it taking a company such as Apple to be able to get it for their products? I get a lot and always want to play the games on Facebook but I can't do it on most of them at least the ones I have tried. So I can not play against anyone at that time I have to wait until I get home or use someone else's computer or something. Please tell me that in the extremely near future that this will not be a problem anymore. PLEASE!! I am sure I am not the only one out there who is having issues and if you do get it available please let there be an upload/upgrade for current phones and not just for future versions of Apple phones. That just wouldnt be very fair to all of your loyal customers and tell everyone to get your products because they are great and end up leaving this little problem out until they by your phone. Especially if they just got the phone they have. You guys are awesome with technology I have faith that you can make this available to all Apple products old and new by uploads or upgrades. Thank you hopefully can give me some info about the status with this or if there wen is one. I would have thought that being a company such as you are that it would already be taking care of right from the beginning and not wait years to take care of somewhat that is very important ro have especially when there is so much our there using Adobe Flash now. I have my playlists in folders in itunes and suddenly I can't open the folders anymore?

I organise all my playlists into folders on itunes on my laptop (windows) and today I can't open or close any of the folders to acces the playlists!!!!! Can anyone help?

Since in iPhoto folders do not hold photos but hold other folders or albums there is a good chance of confusion here - are you speaking of albums or events?
In general you select photos by clicking on one and depressing the command key and clicking on additional photos -- or probably easier selecting oen photo and creating an album and then dragging additional photos to that album - once you have what you want to send collected open the album and select all and e-mail them
