Downloaded a book from iTunes. Now how do I read it?

What software is there to read eBooks on a mac? Kindle doesn't work nor does eReader pro.
Any suggestions?

If you purcahsed a book through the iTunes store, then that's an iBook that you view with the iBooks app on a iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch.

Try this:
Open your iBooks app on your iPad
Select the Store Button at the top
Select Purchased at the bottom
You will see your AppleID on the right at the bottom, then Redeem, then Support
Click on your Apple ID, and when the AppleID window comes up with the options, Sign Out
Then Sign In again and try redownloading your book

Every purchase page for an ebook has a section that says "Requirements". What does that say for your particular book? That should give you the answer to your question. Conversion is normally not possible.
But there are some exceptions. Please provide the Title of the book if you want further help.

See if you can get a refund. Other than that you would have to buy them back as audiobooks.

i tried to re download a purchased audio book after i contacted apple support team for iTunes they said it would be ready for re download or they said id have to re download it from iTunes store i cant remember, so i tried both couldn't re download it from purchased menu and the book id have to re download from iTunes store costs money as if i have never purchased what do i do? I don't have any warranty any more or money to purchase another warranty.

Thank you for your prompt reply. I have bought 1 MacbookPor 17, 1 Macbook air, 1 MacbookPro 15 , 2 ipads, 3 iphones, and this iMac27 and 2 of iMAC24 or 20 not sure   but I do not recall ever doing what you are telling me in your reply.   When you get a extended car warranty, you don't   sign up for it.. it is just there and is included in the sale.   You don't buy this warranty to use it.. You buy it, in case something happens.   Here a perfect iMAC with minimum 100 hour useage has a dead drive. That is not normal and I should not have to even be requesting anything since most MFG offer a 3-5 year warranty on their disc drives and I believe that is probably passed on to Apple regardless if an extended warranty is purchased or not.   Customer service dictates a more flexible approach to make sure the lifetime value of a customer is not lost due to some misunderstanding.
I was in the MacStore that I purchased the unit..and they found and pulled the invoice and confirmed
the purchase of it in front of me. I had paid with credit card and fortunately it was there in their system.   I do not also recall recieving any box or paper although most everything I ever get remains sealed.. I am not in the habit of opening anything since I have never encountered any serious issues before.
   I have used my Macbookpro warranty 1 time and that is all throughout the years I have been investing in Apple equipment.
I just recieved a letter from the store asking me to get the paper to them so they can register it... I don't recall getting any paper actually. But I do have several boxes sealed here.. On this iMAC27, it was a hurry up and get it done thing and I don't remember taking anything extra with it.   Regardless, my request does not seem unreasonable.

I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues with iBooks on your devices. If you continue to have issues opening the book in question on your iPad Air due to a format error, you may want to try deleting the copy on your iPad, then redownloading it directly to your iPad from the iBook Store. I've had similar issues. Turning off firewalls seems to help the download to complete properly. Otherwise, I'm not sure what the problem might be.

Hello Bobejoe,
You will want to change the file type to Audiobook for each audio book track in iTunes. To do this, locate the tracks you wish to change the *Media Type* for. Then right->click on each of those tracks and choose "Get Info" from the shortcut menu. From there, head over to the Options tab. There is a section labeled *Media Type* with a drop down box next to it. Go ahead and choose Audiobook, and then sync the updated changes to your iPod.
That should do the trick for you.

Books are allowed to be redownloaded. Try deleting the books in question and downloading them again.

You can't, iBooks from Apple can only be read in the iBooks app on an iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch - there isn't currently a Mac nor PC reader for them.
Neither Adobe Digital Editions nor any other app can be used to read paid-for books from the iBookstore with DRM, if you were thinking of an alternative.
