Downloaded apps stuck on "Waiting..." due to songs in iTunes?

I've been sifting through the support discussions on this topic for some time now.  I recently backed up and restored my phone to clear some of the "Other" storage, which was taking up more than 4GB of my tiny iPhone so I could update to iOS 7.1.  In so doing, I opened a can of worms.
A lot of my downloaded apps are stuck on "Waiting..." though I can still use them if I type their names into the App Store and open them that way.  That's inconvenient, and I'd rather not be stuck having to do that.
After reading through the discussions on this topic, I traced what I believe to be the problem to several waiting songs in the iTunes app.  These songs won't download because they are registered under other Apple IDs (old friends).  I have no interest in these old songs and would like them removed, but I can't tell my iPhone to not download them.  It just prompts me for an Apple ID password that isn't mine.
How do I convince the iTunes app to stop attempting to download these songs?  I tried swiping left or right to delete them, but that hasn't worked.  I seem incapable of interacting with them in any way that doesn't immediately prompt me for a password.
I've backed up, restored, and given my iPhone a few hard resets.  Nothing has worked.  I've also gone into settings and disabled that "Show All Music" thing, but I haven't backed it up and restored since then.
Any suggestions?  I'd really rather not have to set it up as a "new phone."

Going into Settings - General - Usage, deleting each "Waiting..." app individually, and then redownloading them through the App Store seems to have solved the problem.
I still have a queue of old music in iTunes that I'd rather not trifle with, but at least now I have easy access to my apps.

  • Downloaded apps stuck at "Waiting"

    Hi all,
This problem seems different from a couple others I've seen posted:
When I purchase an app, it begins it's download, but stays stuck in the "Waiting"mode. The App Store itself doesn't freeze (i.e. no spinning beach ball), but the apps never download. They just sit in the dock with a progress bard that never changes.
I've tried restarting, logging in and out and re-downloading the apps.
Has anyone else had this problem or found a solution to it?
    Thanks!
    - Casey

Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>Store>Sign in and then try to update again. Tap one waiting icon only if necessary to start the download stream.
You can also try deleting the waiting icons - tap and hold down on an icon until it wiggles - the tap the X on the icon to delete it. Then try to download again.
You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your app preferences and device settings again.

How do I get rid of an app stuck in waiting? I have signed in and out of ITunes store and booted my iPad. I synced my iAd with my computer. I can't use the app or delete it! Thanks!

If there are multiple apps trying to download at once, only one can download at a time and the rest say "Waiting" until it is then their turn. Try this. Double tap the icon of the Waiting app, and it should resume the download.

Another thing to try - Turn the iPad Off & then back ON.
    If that doesn't work:
    •  Log out of your iTunes store account.  Go to Settings > Store > Sign Out Then press the Home button.
    • Then press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously and don't release them when it brings up the Turn Off screen; keep holding them until the Apple logo appears.
    • After restart, the Waiting should be gone.

  • Apps stuck in waiting after updating on iOS 7.0.2

Since i updated my iPad 2 to iOS 7.0.2 i have this persistent problem, I tried everything to make it normal but it never happens.
After i update an App on my iPad throught the AppStore on the iPad this problem occurs.
    1. Eventhough the update is complete the app gets stuck in "waiting... " state
    2. However the App opens through the AppStore on the iPad
Above are few of the apps stuck in waiting and they have a Open button adjacent to them.
Notice that iBooks is on waiting... however i can open it through the app store.
    and use it normally.
Only solution which works as of now is to delete the apps from settings on the iPad and install them again from the Appstore, but then i'd loose all the data i previously have.
I have no Idea why this is happening. I cannot open the stuck apps directly by taping them i have to go through the AppStore. Please help.
PS: You cannot uninstall app by long tapping it because the X mark does not appear on the app.

    Try a reset ...
    Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings

How fast is your download speed? If it's less than 10Mbps, it's going to take hours.

  • Apps stuck in waiting on the iPhone 4S IOS 6.1.2

Im stuck on an aircraft carrier right now and all my apps that needed updating from before we went out to sea are stuck in "waiting..." because the wifi in the port I was at was very slow and they never downloaded.  I have already tried to reset all my settings and I do not want to delete these apps because they are the source of my sanity out to sea and I will be out to sea for a while.  What can i do to fix this? Please help!!

this is not phone or OS problem . its only your router DNS transfer function problem
I have resolved the problem by myself. I just figured out that the problem due to the DNS transfer function in my router. If I set the iPhone 4S to use the DNS server as 192.168.1.1 which is also the ip address of my router it will have the problem until I set the DNS to some common DNS service, such as 8.8.8.8 from Google. I think it is the problem of compatibiliy between the iOS and the router.
GOTO SETTINGS>>WI-FI>>click on informatio button(i) of your network>> change DNS to 8.8.8.8>> return
    all the best........

  • App stuck on "waiting"

I am running iOS 7 on an iPad 2. There was an update for the Remote app for the Apple TV. I tried running the update and the app is now greyed out and says, "waiting". However, if I go into the App Store and view my update history, the app shows as having updated and will launch if I click on the "open" button. It will not open if I click on the greyed out icon that still says, "waiting". Restarting by holding down the home button+power did not work. There is no "x" to remove it if I long tap until the icons shake. Any ideas?

    Possible solution
I was suffering through the samething for few days and got fed up looking at everyone's  suggestion to simply reboot and what not and finally started fiddling alright myself and seem to have fixed the problem.
I removed the the apps that we're stuck at waiting(I did this through connecting to my pc and unchecking them in the apps section on itunes through the iPad interface, but as long as you are completely backed up you could probably just delete it/them and add them back later). then after the all pending updates have been cleared, go into setting, app store, then press where it says you apple ID select sign out, and then sign back in. After doing this I was able to download apps and updates.
Hope this helps everyone that has been affected by this problem which seems to be going around.
If this helps please be kind enough to leave word that this is the solution across the board and not just an fluke.

  • Downloaded apps appear as waiting on home screen but I can open them from the App Store. How do I fix this?

I bought a replacement iPhone 4 online because my old one broke about two months before my contract expires. I took it to Sprint to activate it, they reset the entire phone, activated, etc. I restored my phone from an iCloud backup (which I'd made right before going to Sprint), and now about half my apps have downloaded normally, while the other half say "Waiting" and can't be deleted (no X button). The strange thing is that if I go into the App Store and look at my purchased apps, the apps that say waiting can be opened and used by pressing the "Open" button there, so I know the app is downloaded and installed but the icons on the home screen are still greyed out and unusable. I've tried to reset my phone, restart my phone, redo the sync, and download the apps from iTunes, but nothing works. Any suggestions?

Tried that as well. The problem isn't that the apps aren't downloading, it's that the app icon is stuck on Waiting. I can actually open and use the apps from the App Store, but not from the home screen.
I'm adding photos to try help explain, though I'm not they'll show up well on since I'm on mobile.
THats the the home screen with useless icons
BUt if I search the App Store for one (like Buzzfeed)
IT it shows it being installed, and I can even open the app an use it. I would try to reinstall but I cant remove the apps.

  • Apps stuck on waiting

Recently my iPhone (OS5) has encountered problems with installing apps. The first time it happened was last week, I attempted to install an app from the app store and it displayed the "waiting.." status and did not go away. I restarted but it was still there. I was able to press the X on the app to remove it, but the problem arised again when I downloaded the app from the app store. In fact, the same thing happened whichever app I attempted to download. Even when I tried to update current apps from the update tab on the apps store they turned to the "waiting.." status. I have connected via itunes on my computer, downloaded an app but it doesn't appear on my iphone. Could anyone help me out?
To be clear, I have read the existing related posts but please note that:
restarting my iphone does not solve the problem
connecting to itunes on my computer does not solve the problem
I am able to close the app with the X button but when i try again I have the same problem
I know many people will just post their problem without searching the forum first, just wanted to say I did some research prior to posting
    Dawn

    Hey Dawn
Had the same problem and found your post without any reply but you gave me an idea that worked for me.  but try at your own risk as I do not know what I am doing just that it worked.
Plug in your device to your computer .
In itunes under the device and apps are all your apps there? in the left column where they are listed.  If so this means that all of your apps are backed up in your computer.
First Sync your device, wait for it to complete. (as you mentioned this did not fix it)
Now, try this with one app that shows "waiting", maybe one you dont care too much about:  On your IOS device X it. (delete it) It will give you a warning that you will loose all data of that app. Say okay.
Now make sure that that app is selected on the left hand column on the itunes app page for the device.
Sync again (it should be quick as it should only update the apps)
Again for all the other apps this did not help, but for that one app that you try it should now show up on your IOS device correctly and run.
If you feel comfortable with my procedure now X (delete) all the other apps that show waiting and sync again.
Hope this works for you like it did for me.
The root cause of my problem (I believe) is that I bought a new iphone and at the store I restored using icloud. Once the phone was up and running I left the store which interrupted the restore of apps and music. Once I got to my home it was trying to do everything at the same time and it got stuck.  So I figured I would just sync and get rid of the problem, but you like you mentioned it did not help.  I mention this as it might be applicable to what happend to you.

  • Apps stuck in 'waiting' status

I've seen a few similar posts, but adding mine here.  iPad2 software version 5.1 - last two days, app downloads and updates stuck in 'waiting' status.  Tried signing out, powering off and back on, and then signing back in, but no luck.  Works fine when syncing through itunes on computer, but no luck with cloud downloads or over wi-fi from app store.  Also automatic cloud downloads aren't pushing to iPad.  Help us Apple!!!!

First, Apple isn't on these forums, so your'e just writing your fellow users here.  Second, Apple servers are overloaded with new users updating to their new devices, downloading new apps, etc.  Give it a few days to settle down, but you're just seeing the fact that there are more users than the servers can handle at one time.
