Downloaded Downlite to my MacBook Pro without knowing it was harmful. Please help?
Hey everyone,
This is my first post to the Apple Support Communitites. I have just downloaded the program "Downlite" to my MacBook Pro to download Rosetta Stone.
I know, I was not supposed to do this. I had heard of others doing this with ease and was stupid and tried. Now, a popup from www.myvdrive.com pops up every time I am on Safari. There are also bogus ads when I am searching anything on Google. I have since switched to Mozilla Firefox, but would like my Safari to operate normally.
Can anyone please help? I am awful with computers and have no idea what to do. Thank you so much in advance for any recommendations!

You may have installed the "DownLite" adware, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/Application Support/VSearch
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "VSearch" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/Jack.plist
/Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/Jack
/System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
After moving all the files, restart and empty the Trash.
This unwanted program is distributed on illegal websites that traffic in pirated movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect much worse to happen in the future.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

I'm confused. Are you saying that your mac came with an older version of OS X, but you want to be able to use OS X Lion, which you downloaded from the App store? If this is not the case, what do you mean by "I downloaded os x but my laptop started off with os x lion and i want os x lion back"? Specifically, what do you mean by "I downloaded OS X" if your mac came with Lion? -

My MacBook Pro is running very slowly! Please help!
Hi all, as of late last year my MacBook Pro started running very slowly. As I'm a novice when it comes to computers I thought I'd turn to the interweb for solutions. I've tried a couple of basic things but don't seem to be getting anywhere.I ran the EtreCheck program as it seemed to help others. Would love some help interpreting this...

Thanks in advance! MikePlease read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. It will be slow, but there should be no beachballing. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2. -
New Macbook Pro 10.8 WiFi Running Slow - PLEASE HELP!
Just bought my Macbook Pro in December. My brother and I are the only macbooks on the network, as soon as he gets on his macbook, my macbook automatically starts running slower. As soon as he stops, it starts working normal again. I have tried refreshing my IP address and same problem
I am running 10.8.3 and it says I am up to date. WiFi speed is not an issue, router is good (brand new) and have never had this problem before.
Is this a bug? Is there a way to fix this?
MikeJust do what I said and post it please. Continuously asking about it without knowing that info is pointless. If your systems are identical, then neither of you should be experiencing any issues. Think about it... if the systems are identical, why would your have an issue and his won't... under the same OS version and hardware. Makes no sense.
Also, even if your router is brand new, it may not have the most recent version of firmware on it. Check that. And even so, some chipsets on some WIFI routers from some manufacturers don't work well with Mac's due to the Broadcom chipsets it uses. It can happen, I've seen it with brand new Netgear products and new iMacs. Changing the network config on the router for wireless technologies to use may fix your issue, but if it's a dual band router, you need to post what I asked for because that will tell you what speed and radio channel/GHz you're actually using. Sometimes a ton of devices on the 2.4GHz can cause issues with others around, etc. -
I would love to post this question to the Nintendo Support forums, but I'm abroad right now and it seems I am denied from the forums if I try to log in.
My Nintendo 3DS's internet features all work perfectly fine except when it comes down to directly playing a match with other users. For example, Mario Kart 7 will download Spot pass data like normal every day, but everytime I tray to play a match online, the software gives me an error. Same thing when I try to connect with people on Animal Crossing: New Leaf. My previous linksys router back in the states worked fine. The security was WEP I remember. Now I've got myself an Airport express and neither it nor my Macbook Pro (when sharing is turned on) will permit me direct online access to other users like I stated above. I even disabled security and went with an open network for a few minutes and was faced with the same exact problem.
I know this is very specific and mainly involves a none apple product, but I'm just curious what is different about the Apple wireless networks I'm setting up that is preventing me from nothing but direct realtime interactions with other users.
Any advice or knowledge about Apple security or wireless networks would really help me out. There are only so many settings I can tweak in the Airport Express so I'm sure it can't be too difficult, but I don't even know where to start.I guess it's a problem with NAT (Network Address Translation). My ISP is Vectant Ltd. so maybe I should get a hold of them. If anyone has any work arounds that maybe they used with other game consoles (Xbox Live, PSN), I could really use the suggestion. I really like the Airport express and assumed it would be compatible, but I guess not.

MacBook Pro terribly slow unknown reason. Please help.
Even while not running any app at all, (and with 20%+ free disk-space, and nothing noticeable shown in Activiy Monitor). Disk utility neither finds anything, but the computer is taking about 5min to open a window, and if I open an App, my MacBook freezes for around 5 min, then the App runs extremely slow and eventually breaks. I have been suffering from this for a couple months but started much much lighter, and started getting worst over time, till this point in which opening a folder takes around 1min.
(I also have almost nothing on my desktop and only weather widgets; and only a default background image)
Mine is a MacBook Pro 15' (mid 2010) 2.53GHz Intel Core i5 with 4 GB 1067MHz DDR3 with NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 256MB. Running 10.7.2.
I have tried unplugging it and shutting it off for several minutes. I have run tests, which also run extremelly slow and freeze my computer completely.
I think it is important to notice that I only use my MacBook Pro for running Xcode, Safari, iTunes and some of the Adobe products. With some sporadic use of Skype and VLC. So the problem would most likely come from my own Xcode projects, but I can't really find where. I can't even run Xcode at a workable speed anymore.
I find many permission issues, but performing permission repair is not solving them for some reason.
What could it be the problem? What could I do to solve it?Download and run Smart Utility :http://www.volitans-software.com/smart_utility.php that will give you insight into the condition of your hard drive.
You've probably already reset the SMC and PRAM?
If you do a safe boot by holding the shift key down when rebooting, does the system behave the same? If not, look at your login items as well as those shown at the bottom of your system prefences panel. It's possible there's a software incompatibility that's hosing things up. -
My Macbook Pro has been slow lately. Please help

I'de really appreciate your advise.
Thanks! Thanks for the help Linc Davis. I followed your instructions and here I paste the results.

Sound in Macbook pro is not working correctly! PLEASE HELP!
A few days ago, the sound in the build in speakers in my macbook pro (Mac OS X 10.6.8) started not working correctly, i did not hit it or anything, just closed it down when i woke up the next day, the sound was not working correctly. i know it is hard to describe what's wrong in a written forum, but the best way to describe it is this: it sounds like when you have a set of headphones plugged in, but not wearing them. the sound is weak, with no bass. when i actualy do hear the sound when wearing headphones (in my ears) the sound is fine.
hope anyone can help.Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

I just got a new macbook pro, firefox is being very glitchy, please help?
I just got a new Macbook pro yesterday.
I took it home and downloaded the newest Firefox (my go-to browser for years), and I'm having some pretty substantial issues.
First, I tried streaming a movie on Netflix last night, and I'm getting a really obscure error message that provides me a list of steps. I follow the steps and nothing happens. I tried watching on Chrome and Safari and they both work.
Next, and this is the one that confuses me most, is when I pull up a video on youtube and take it to fullscreen, The bottom toolbar that gives pause and play options, shows how far along in the video you are, etc, is granulated and slightly obscured. Somehow abstracted, I guess, when it should obviously be crystal clear. I've literally never seen anything like this before, and once again, it's only happening on Firefox. I'm pretty frustrated at this point, can anyone help me?
Before you ask, I've run all my software updates and everything is completely good to go, so that's not the solution.
Thanks for reading, hopefully I can get some feedback soon.Is it a beep or a chime (or tone)?
When it's powered on, the Mac goes through a POST (Power On Self Test), in which it briefly tests crucial components. A (more or less) musical chime or tone indicates that the POST was successful. If POST fails, what you hear depends on the Mac and the error -- a beep, or several beeps, or even a chord. These articles will give you more info

The startup chime may be a problem if you start your MBP in an inconvenient location. You can mute it by holding down the mute key (F10) until the Apple logo appears. -
MacBook Pro vs. iPad air 2? please help!
My intentions are to browse the internet, (tumblr, youtube, etc.) but most important edit and product music videos and movies. I would also like to mention that i'm going to be storing many, many video clips and songs in order to produce these music videos and movies.
which would be best for me? A MacBook Pro or an iPad Air 2? What are some things that one can do but the other can't? pros and cons?If you're going to be editing music and/or videos, you will find this much easier to do on a MacBook Pro. You have more software options, the machine is more powerful, and it's just easier to move files around. The iPad's apps are all sandboxed, so a file in 1 app is essentially trapped in that app and can't be used by another without going through a lot of steps.

Macbook pro still freezing after insurance repair, please help me
Hi there I got water damage on my 2012 MacBook pro, and my insurance covered it, so I got the logic board, adapter and keyboard replaced. When it returned the computer kept freezing on start-up and I have to turn it off at the power button every time! Sometimes I can login and boot up
but it will randomly freeze at any point.
I sent it back to the insurance company who repaired it and they came back to me saying the technicians were unable to diagnose it
and that all the hardware had been checked and is running fine, so they told me to contact my supplier because its the software
that is at fault, however I didn't have these problems before I damaged my MacBook.
Could it be the software or the hardware, they are both sending me on a goose chase between them and I have a dissertation to do for September!
Please if anyone knows something that I can do to repair it, I have done disk utilities and that's coming up clean.
Thanks SlothThank you Csound1 for the reply, No I haven't I will try this later!
I asked because there are so many other people who ask questions for help on Apple discussions, and there is always lots
of helpful replies, and I only expected some advice on what I could do to resolve the issue if it is indeed a software problem, as there are lots of knowledgeable people on here, because the technicians at the repair company have no solution. -
Macbook Pro VERY SLOW since mavericks! Please Help!
My Macbook pro is a late 2012 model, 2.3GHz Intel Core i7 with 4GB ram
Ever since upgrading to mavericks, it has slowed down immensely! It was never this slow or buggy with Mountain lion
It takes a good 2 minutes to load mail, finder is very buggy - it will take a good minute to load a photo - which was not normal
I also run Adobe CC design software - and it is very very slow
Safari is extremely slow and buggy, and sometimes shows screens as below:
I was going to upgrade to 2x8GB ram which will be 16GB of ram - will this solve the problem?
Should i upgrade to yosemite? will these problems be fixed please?

Hi All.
I had the same problem with my MacBook Pro 13" 2.26. I bought my MBP on July of this year is the new model.
I was using the leopard and this problem happen all days at each 5 minutes, so I updated to SnowLeopard build 1.6.1, I think this problem would be fixed, but this is with same frequency, each 5 minutes it happen.
My cursor change to ˜rainbow circle" and my computer freeze, the memory is not full, cpu is about 2%, so the pc was "idle".
Do know if exist any solution to it?
Apple is replacing this machine?
This is a hardware or software fail?
This problem can be resolved by warranty?

Macbook Pro Mini Displayport to HDMI problem Please Help!
I just bought a new Macbook Pro Core i7 15" and have it connected to a Samsung P2370HD via a Kanex Mini Displayport to HDMI cable. I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and have the resolution @ 1080p via system preferences and the "underscan" feathered a bit... (which I do not understand why I have to do this since I'm outputting at 1080p and the monitor accepts full 1080p as well. Can someone explain this?) however, small text is grainy, some larger bold text has a white wash behind it. Most things seem to have a slight blur as if there is a screen zoom happening just slightly. As described in this similar post I found.
My old setup was a late 2007 Macbook Pro 15" 10.6.3 connected to the same monitor I have now via Dual-Link DVI and it was crystal clear... It's hard to believe that the issue lies with Samsung, I've tried the same setup on my Sony Bravia in the living room, being that it's a much larger tv...I can't notice the artifacts as much but they are still present. Something is off.
My only other option I feel is to try a Mini Displayport to Dual-Link DVI but I chose the HDMI route for it's standardization and when I go to meetings/projections it's convenient to have one cable. Yes, I've checked cables, restarted everything ect... Can anyone help me troubleshoot this?
Thanks in advance!Switched to a Mini Displayport to DVI cable and it works flawlessly. Still no idea, why the hdmi cable does not work properly.
