Downloaded exe file onto Dell PC ends up being corrupt

After several downloads we are giving up (well, almost). First, it takes a long time to download the file. Then, once downloaded it won't run because it gives us the "corrupt" message.

You really really do need to read the Windows 7 FAQ the Boot Camp 3.0 Installation and Setup guide for 10.6  and the Boot Camp 3.0 MacOS 10.6 FAQ  a couple of times to really get to know the whole picture.
"Boot Camp" is just a basic set of WINDOWS drivers to run Apple hardware. You install Window first, via BCAssistant to start it, then after it finish's the install and restarts into Windows then you insert the "whatever you made disk" with the Boot Camp drivers on it, it should then give you an installer window, just like on the Mac side, if you want to "Run" it or "Open as a file". (Run it)
The Apple Software Updater updates ALL the Apple files including BootCamp Assistant on the Mac, it updates the Boot Camp Assistant to look for the latest drivers to use when it gives you the option to download the files onto whatever you want to use to download onto.
BTAssistant to partition the drive, then it will boot off the Windows installer, there is no more Mac control, it's ALL Windows now, have Windows format it the way you want, then it will finish by restarting into Windows, then you install the drivers while booted in Windows.
You need a wired mouse AND keyboard just like the instructions said. If you have the earlier Magic Mouse then they suggest you plug it into the keyboard instead of the computer.
If you partitioned like the instructions said, via Boot Camp Assistant, you can install Windows anytime you want, it won't forget it's there. YOU just have to remember where it is.
If you do have problems with the partition then at the bottom of the instructions it tells you how to restore the partition back to normal then you can start over.

  • Unable to download exe files after unblocking, 404 error. handler mappings execute change prevent infopath, export to excel, and sharepoint designer from working.

I removed .exe from the block list, checked MIME types, all ok,
    I followed this solution: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepoint2010setup/thread/b380a13e-a15f-4e32-98cd-12747538ad20?prof=required
( go into IIS (I am assuming IIS 7.0) and select the particular web site and click
handler mappings and Edit feature permissions and
    uncheck the Execute box .)
It works, I can now open exe files. But it causes other major troubles so far:
    -Cannot Export Lists to Excel
-Cannot Publish and Save InfoPath forms
-Cannot edit subsites in SharePoint Designer.
Does anybody have another solution that won't disable other features? What is the best way to do it? I have SolidWorks Edrawings in .exe that needs to be accessible.
    Thank you.

    Hi Guillaume,
As you know, if we remove the Execute permission for handle mappings, we will be able to download .exe file from SharePoint server. But as you said, this will cause other issues.
The another solution to allow to download .exe file is remove the CGI-exe handle mapping from the handle mappings directly. You may need to restart Internet Information Server(IIS). After that, we will be able to download .exe file directly.
    Open the IIS manager
Select the site from the "Sites" tree
    Double-click "Handle Mappings"
Right-click "CGI-exe", and then click "Remove"

  • Safari not downloading exe files for vista

The only problem I have with Safari is that it won't save downloaded exe files. As the download finalizes, an error box pops up.
"Windows found that this file is potentially harmful.
To help protect your computer, Windows has blocked access to this file."
I went to the Windows Security control panel to see if I could turn it off. However, it only offers help for Internet Explorer. Any help is graciously appreciated.

The hatter is correct. Safari uses the Windows "attachment manager" interface to allow virus checkers and other security software to validate downloaded files.
More info on the attachment manager:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883260
It is likely that a virus checker (or related software like Windows Defender) is flagging the files as being infected or otherwise harmful. You might want to check the AVG and Windows Defender logs to see if they indicate any problems.
Another possibility would be that your system is configured through group policy or via the registry to flag these files as high-risk, which disallows them from being opened. Refer to the Microsoft KB article above for more information.

  • I cannot download exe files. I have no trouble downloading files with other extensions (ex: dta).

I have an HP Pavilion dm4-2070us computer running Windows 7.  I have the same problem with internet explorer and with Firefox.  The file seems to download but never finishes; it is not in my downloads folder.

Hello number1stat, try to temporarily disable your antivirus software and see if that helps, if it does not work then try the following.  This can occur if you have customized your Internet Options Security settings for the Internet zone, if the option, "Launching applications and unsafe files" is set to "Disable". Method 1: Reset your Security settings for the Internet zone to the default level. Go to "Control Panel -> Internet Options" (or use "Start -> Run -> inetcpl.cpl -> OK" to open "Internet Properties") then click the Security tab, select the Internet zone and click "Default level"  Method 2: Set a custom level for security in the Internet zone. Go to "Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Security (tab) -> Internet". If security is set to "High", or if you have customized the Internet zone settings, select "Custom level..." and change the single option, "Launching Applications and Unsafe Files" from 'Disable' to 'Prompt (recommended)'. If executable file downloads fail from certain sites but you are able to download exe files from other sites, check in "Internet Options -> Security - > Restricted sites -> Sites" to make sure that the problem site is not in the "Restricted sites" list, as the security level for that zone is High by default. Some Security software, including Spybot S&D, add known malware sites to that listing.

  • Cannot download .exe file in FF4

I've been trying to download a .exe file from this site: http://www.conceptispuzzles.com/index.aspx?uri=info/news/376
I've used FF3 to download previous games in this series without any problems, but after I installed FF4, I can't download the latest game, or any of the previous games (which had worked previously). The download works fine in Google Chrome, however.
Basically what happens is that when I click the link to "download the desktop application" on the page, it lets me 'save file'. But this file download lasts only about 2-3 seconds, and the file size is really small (not the 4.6MB that the .exe file is supposed to be). And when I try to run the downloaded file, I get an error saying that it is not a Win32 application).
I've tried all the various solutions that I could find in the FF help site, but nothing seems to work. e.g. I've cleared cache, changed some settings in about:config, disabled my download manager add-on, and a whole ton of other stuff... but nothing helped. And I do think it's a problem with FF, because the download worked perfectly in Google Chrome.
(edit: I just downloaded some .exe files from other sites, and they worked just fine. so I'm only having this problem on this particular site, using FF4).

    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
    1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software. Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak 2 or Vista. Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows. Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
    2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, or Vista Ultimate. Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    3. VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, or Vista Ultimate. VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows. The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
    5. VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris. It is not yet fully developed for the Mac - some features are not yet implemented - but it does work otherwise.
    6. Last is Q. Q is a freeware emulator that is compatible with Intel Macs. It is much slower than the virtualization software, Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc. There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization. The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system.
See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion.
Boot Camp is only available with Leopard. The Boot Camp Beta that was used with Tiger has expired and is no longer available for use. So contrary to the other poster's comment, Boot Camp isn't truly "free." You must purchase Leopard to get it.

  • Installing newly downloaded .exe file

my laptop is brand new - how come i cant get any .exe file to run and install? download went fine - when i clck run nothing happens - when itry to delete the .exe file it says it cant because installIQ is busy with it. even hours later on a 11 MB install.
i cant find InstallIQ anywhere on my computer and i dont see wher this install is happeneing.
    HEEEEELLLLLPPPP.

i cant find InstallIQ anywhere on my computer
InstallIQ is a an installer with spyware/adware features. You can read about it here.
       What Is Install IQ Updater?
I wouldn't install any application which uses that installer. It plants itself here.
       C:\Program Files\W3i\InstallIQUpdater\InstallIQUpdater.exe
You should be able to uninstall it from Control Panel's Programs and Features.
When you post here, always tell us which model Toshiba you have and which Windows.

  • Downloading .exe file stored in KM

    Hi,
I'm trying to download a .exe file stored in KM folder using KM APIs in Webdynpro. But while downloading am giving WDWebResourceType as UNKNOWN. So at runtime it is asking for save and cancel only. While saving it gets saved without extension,so user will not be able to run the exe without renaming the file. Is there any solution for this?
I even tried setting a new WDWebResourceType as follows
          WDWebResourceType type = new WDWebResourceType("exe","application/octet-stream",false)
    But yielded the same result.
    Thanks n Regards
    Renu.

    marco,
(i don't know the english naming, but I try to translate from my german browser version)
go to menu Extras / Settings...
On tab Content (the world bowl) is a section "File types", there you can edit the desired action for your file type. e.g. download ("save as") for pdf-files.

  • Adobe Dreamweaver cs3 download, exe file can not open

I downloaded Adobe Dreamweaver cs3 as a torrent and its a .exe file how could i make this work? Or could another option

The .EXE is a Windows version. Download the Mac version (the .DMG).

  • When I try to download EXE files from other software support sites Firefox cancels these requests.

When I try to download an EXE file from some software support or update sites (such as Norton) Firefox shows it being canceled in the download folder, or the folder shows a file name with zerokb instead of the file. Even if I opt to try to download the file to a folder other than the downloads file by changing the Firefox settings the same thing happens in the chosen folder.

There are more involved ways of solving this - involving turning down/off your Windows firewall settings, deactivating your virus scanner or changing the zone settings.
But the simplest way to solve this is to just fire up Chrome or a similar 'lite' browser and download the file you want through it.
Only do this if you absolutely trust the site you're dealing with and remember to scan the heck out of the .exe file once you get it.
If you still can't download it you must have really tight security settings and you'll just have to deal with adjusting those.

  • Providing downloadable .exe file for clients

Currently, we have an application that is hosted on a VM in azure, and we provide a download for an executable file that is signed by our code-signing certificate and then a link is provided to users.  The .exe file is in a Download folder found on
the Server within the File system where the web application is stored.
We need to move this application to a Web Role and would like to know how to provide the executable file to clients when we change our application to a web role.  I'm not sure which way is the best way to provide this.  Any help would be appreciated.

You could create an Azure storage account and container, then upload the your .exe file as a blob to the container. Your web application could then provide your users with a link to download the file like this:
    https://yourstorageaccount.blob.core.windows.net/yourcontainer/app12234.exe
