Downloaded files don't open automatically
why most of files, Word, Excel and many other don't open automatically on desktop after downloading them, is very irritating to go and search all the time
Thanks for help

You don't need to search for them. When you download a file, the Safari Downloads window opens automatically. After the file has finished downloading, double-click on its icon in the Downloads window to open it directly. Also note that you can go to its location by clicking on the magnifying-glass icon to the right. This will open a Finder window with the file selected – handy if you want to delete it or move it to another location.
As Mulder points out, some files (such as MS Office files) will never open automatically, because doing so could be unsafe for your computer. But files that are considered "safe" will open automatically if you have the right option selected in your preferences: Safari > Preferences > General, check the box next to "Open 'safe' files after downloading."

Why does the folder "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Elements" open automatically when I start my PC? How do I adjust settings to stop this from happening?
Hi,
This folder is probably treated as a program to run at startup.
So you will have to look at the places where such programs are referenced.
For instance, you may have a shortcut to that folder in your Start Menu > Startup.
Or it may be in the Registry.
Click on Start > Execute, the type msconfig and click OK.
This will show you in the Startup tab all the programs launched at startup.

I have a UCCX 8.0 (2) Installed.
Users here have limited access via proxy. Now everytime i try to run the CAD or CSD, i get the error:
"unable to download file" Could not open request.
It seems to want to install or check for an update.
The work around i have found is to go to the CAD directory and change the update.exe filename
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\CAD\bin\update.exe
i dont want to have to do this for every user as i possibly want the update.
Is there a way to allow or bypass proxy on CAD?
Regards
JI had this problem before - to resolve it I disabled the proxy in internet explorer settings.
You'll need to make sure the CAD version matches your UCCX server version. Otherwise you may run in to issues.

Then downloading file i cannot open the file
If "Open" and "Open Containing Folder" are grayed in the Download Manager then your anti-virus software may have removed the files.

My downloaded files don't appear in the download window. The download window is blank, yet the files download OK.
Thank you for your prompt help. When I finally got to my profile file, I couldn't find downloads.rdf to delete, but I did find the downloads.sqlite file. Have I misunderstood your help?

I cannot open downloaded files. The "Open" & "Open Containing Folder" options are grayed out. Cannot right-click on the files to open. File does not appear in the targeted folder. If "opened," the files provide an error message. Issue is primarily with MS Word.
If "Open" and "Open Containing Folder" in the right-click context menu in the Download Manager window are grayed then that means that the file is no longer in the original download location.<br />
It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox.<br />
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.<br />
See "Disable virus scanning in Firefox preferences - Windows"

Downloaded DMG files don't open.
I have had some trouble lately when downloading DMG files with Safari. In the URL bar I could see it was downloading and then downloaded however nothing happend. Changed to open with DiskUtility didn't do anything. Firewall had no influence. When downloaded with Firefox there was NO problem and everything went fine like it use to do with Safari. So I suspect it is a bug in Safari since this happens with all DMG files of late.
Yes I first looked in my 'Downloads' folder and none to be found. Other download files like mp3 and pdf's no problem, they open straight away and show a little download arrow icon top left in the browser. It's really just DMG files, very peculiar.

Mail attachments, downloaded files from safari or chrome, or directly from gmail account won't open. I thought I'd resolve the problem by upgrading to Yosemite, but it still persists. The message I get is "file name" is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the Trash." It's the same message Gatekeeper will give you if it's programmed to only use apps that have been downloaded from the Apple store, but in my case it's with any downloaded file and any format (pdf, word, ppt, bmp, jpeg, etc.). I've gone through troubleshooting with Apple Support team but they seem to be clueless, too. Meanwhile I am stuck, can't get any work done!!!
Do you have any third party security software installed? That will most definitely be the culprit.
Gate Keeper will warn you when opening anything acquired from the internet that wasn't through the Mac App Store or it's identified developers. You can change this to allow anything, but I would advise against it... because you need to know that you are opening a file that may be suspect.
System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General. Unlock and set it to Anywhere if you want to leave your system wide open. The second setting it the default setting (and best setting).
You should still be able to open a file without changing these settings by holding down the control key as you click on the file then select open. It will prompt you again to confirm that you want to open the file. From then on, that file will no longer be blocked.
Again, if you installed any third party software that is designed to perform a similar function, it will likely override anything OS X is doing. Which is why you don't want to use said software in the first place. -
Files don't open in their actual size
When I open files in Photoshop they don't open in their actual size. Guess it's connected to their large screensize. But before working with them I always zoom them to actual 100%. Is there any way getting around this? Force Photoshop open automaticly in 100%?
Try this script: http://www.ps-scripts.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=61
View actual pixels 100%.ZIP contains pdf instructions on how to install this script file.
The second script is modified to open the image at 100% in Full Screen mode.
Both should work from CS2 to CS6.

Files don't open or will only open 'Read Only'. Server reboot resolves issue for 1 day
Greetings!
We have a SharePoint 2010 Foundation server that I recently inherited. I'm a novice at SharePoint, but let me cut to the chase.
Users have recently (within the last week) started experiencing a problem where if they open a file, it will error either saying that the file cannot be opened, or it will only open in read only. This occurs with Excel, Word, Power Point docs. They CAN however,
open and edit these documents in the browser with web apps. After launching the full office application, if they click 'Edit Document', it will appear to switch to editable mode, but the title bar will still contain 'Read Only' and they can't save changes
directly back and are forced to do a 'Save As'. The only thing I have been able to do to remedy this is to quiesce the server and reboot it. After reboot, it will work until something magical happens overnight and it's broken again the next morning. I'm trying
to hunt down what this magical event is but could use some help.
Note that after I reboot the server, users can access and modify normally, no rebooting of workstations or closing of any applications (including the browser that's already on SharePoint) for it to start working, so I believe we can eliminate an endpoint
issue.
Server Specs:
VMWare VM version 9 (VMTools up-to-date)
16GB RAM
250GB HDD
2x vCPU
Windows 2008 R2 (latest updates installed)
SQL DB Hosted remote on a SQL 2008 R2 server running on Windows 2008 R2. The SQL database is set up in a mirror configuration.
I'm sure I missed a lot of pertinent information but want to get something out there. Thanks in advance. There are warnings that repeat every ~1hour and one critical that occurs daily. Under each error, I added notes of what I've done to remedy.

Details:
The SharePoint server was moved to a different location. (0x8004fd12)
I found in central management that the content database is pointing to an old SQL database but the failover server is set correctly. I assume that is what is generating this but I don't know how to fix it.

The SharePoint Health Analyzer detected a condition requiring your attention. Drives are at risk of running out of free space.
Available drive space is less than five times the value of physical memory. This is dangerous because it does not provide enough room for a full memory dump with continued operation. It also could cause problems with the Virtual Memory swap file:
(SERVERNAME- C:\).
Examine the failing servers and delete old logs or free space on the drives. For more information about this rule, see "http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=142688".
I Resolved this already an hour ago, extended the HDD from 100GB to 250 GB and made pagefile 2x the RAM (it was set to 8GB, RAM is 16GB)

Downloaded file won't open when password-secured
Since moving from Acrobat 8 to 9, my passworded pdf file will not open once it is downloaded from the server. My file was created as an .xls file in openoffice, then converted to pdf. Password security was then set in Acrobat 9 pro (mac). I works fine when not passworded. Is there something I can do to regain the security functionality? Note: the problem only occurs AFTER uploading to the server; it works as it should on my computer before that.
Thanks - I tried do that but I didn't see any appropriate forum - the choices were too specific. Any chance you could point me to the correct one to deal with this issue?

Word file does not open automatically on export
When I click on the Export to Word icon from the toolbar the file exports to C:\Program Files\SAP Business One\Worddocs\<company>\<bp ID>\<filename.doc> but it doesn not open automatically as it does in Excel.
I can open the file once exported but I have to go into that path to do so. Is there something I can do to have it open automatically? MS Word does not even come up when the file is exported. I'm using MS Office 2007 and SAP Business One 8.8 PL 13.Hi Alan.......
i guess what you need to do is Go to Administration> System Initialization> Print Preferences
Select the Document say Invoice on Per Tab and tick on Export to MS-Word.
Once you add the AR Invoice it will be exported to MS Word automatically.......
Hope this will solve your problem.....

I can't install software after downloads because a icon with the form of a white sheet of paper with the corner folded appears.
Here are examples of downloaded files that do not open:
Flip4Mac WMV.mpkg
DivX for Mac Installer.pkg
MacOSUpdCombo10.4.5PPC.pkg
Help!
iMac Duo Core Mac OS X (10.4.10)The installer app opens mpkg files. Right-click on one of the files and choose get info from the menu. Under the "open with:" section, be sure that installer is the application listed as the default application to open these files. I hope this helps!
