DOWNLOADED FILES for Oracle DB 10g Rel. 2 for HP-UX PA-RISC NOT VALID

I have repeatedly downloaded several files offered for download from:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/htdocs/10201hpsoft.html
These files include: the main Oracle Database 10g CD 10201_database_zip, the Oracle Database 10g Companion CD Release (10.2.1.0), 10201_companion.zip, and the Oracle Clusterware CD Release 2 (10.2.0.2.0) 10201_clusterware.zip.
The only one of these files that unzips successfully after downloading is the Clusterware cd zip. The Database and Companion zip files generate an error message "Cannot open file: it does not appear to be a valid archive."

That can't be a general problem, I downloaded the software and all zip-files are valid. Clusterware is the smallest part, maybe the other downloads are incomplete. The download page shows filesizes and checksums , compare these with your results.

Corrupt Data1.cab in Oracle Express 10g Universal for Windows

Hello Oracle Folks,
I downloaded several times Oracle Express 10g Universal for Windows (OracleXEUniv.exe) and tried to install it and I get every time the same error message: "Error 1335. The required file "Data1.cab" is corrupt and cannot be used ...". When I download the Western European Edition (OracleXE.exe) the installation works! I downloaded the file on different local disks to exclude the risk that my disk is damaged.
Can you please check if this download is sane!

The stupid installation program for your stupid database was supposed to check the version of the Operating System. Anyway how does the operating system version matter if a cab file is corrupted? which was incidently packed in that stupid download link which you have happily given to all customers all this time. I was hoping to find that since you guys are too lazy to make the installation file properly you might have atleast bothered to put up a download link for that stupid Data1.cab. But nooo... The 'stupid installation program' is indeed that - a stupid installation program. It does a certain amount of checking, but definitely not enough. In that I do agree with you. It was also released too early - basrely understands how to spell Vista.
Also, there is an assumption by Oracle that the person downloading reads the documentation, especially the installation guide, that is available at the same location as the download. It is amazing and extremely disappointing to note how many people will not even attempt to look at the link.
The real sad part for me is that I frequently download software (and did again in this case) to verify that the user has a legitimate complaint. The 'data1.cab' that I received was not corrupt. Therefore I conclude the original poster made some huge assumption that is likely invalid. Now, I did install into an XP machine, and that could make a difference.
As for the 'you guys' statement - perhaps you should take that up with Oracle or an Oracle employee. Directing at me is an unsubstantiated assumption on your part. <g>

Yup. You could easily go there. Shows yet another assumption. (In fact, my company is centered around Linux and Oracle. And I have made a conscious decision, based on 3 decades of experience, to toss MySQL and stick with Oracle. And now that Sun, which owns MySQL, seems to be on the auction block, the future of MySQL is definitely up in the air.)
However, given how many assumptions you make and how valid they are, you may find it easier to stick with MySQL. Oracle Express edition potentially could save huge buckets of time and effort in the long run, but it does require reading, research and other skills to get up to speed.
Now, as to your problem
1) This is not the forum to discuss issues with installation. (If the problem is traced to the download source, then this is the right spot.)
2) There is a dedicated forum for Oracle Database 10g Release 2 Express Edition (Oracle Database Express Edition (XE)
3) You are absolutely correct that the installer should be smart enough to check the OS. It does not.
4) Since it does not, and since there are differences, knowing which version AND edition of Windows (or which Linux distro and release) is critical to troubleshooting.

Download link for Oracle Database 10g Documentation seems to be broken.

I am trying to download the documentation for Oracle Database 10g but the zip archive seems to be corrupt. The md5 checksum for the file I have downloaded is:

I have twice tried to download the file but both times I get the same corrupt zip error. Can any one confirm the status of the file.

As we know, Apache supports basic Authentication, and Oracle Report 10g bases on Apache, that means Oracle Report 10g supports Basic Authentication too?

Archiving Standards for Oracle 9i/10g

Does any know know if there is any official archiving standards for Oracle 9i/10g?
If yes, would you give the hyperlinks to their documents. Thanks.

1) Archive logging and archiving old data records are two radically different concepts. Archive logging is something the database does in ARCHIVELOG mode where an archiver process copies the online redo logs to separate files (archive logs) that are used for backup and recovery purposes. Normally, archive logs are retained just long enough to be useful in recovering the last N backups that have been taken, where N depends on the organization, the criticality of the database, the backup strategy, etc.
2) For archiving old data records, the approach is going to be driven based on the organization's particular requirements and the type of data we're talking about. Among the options
- An ETL process that moves data from an OLTP system to a data warehouse of some description for historical reporting.
- Writing old records to flat files that can be compressed and stored on cheap media (i.e. DVDs) and writing loader applications that can restore the old data to the database.
- Using partitioning and ILM (Information Lifecycle Management) to do things like moving older partitions of a table to less and less expensive media over time, compressing older partitions, dropping the oldest partitions, etc.

But it is giving the same error.
I have tired rebouncing the server and also Purge cached, but no success.
Just to mention again, I have tried with all the last 3 postgres JDBC4 driver available on the site (u mentioned).
So, any other clue?

The Database, Management and Integration server and client are all included in the one 8i download. The installer gives you the choice of just installing the client tools.

Requirement specification for Oracle 9i & 10g database.

I had a query as to what are the software & hardware requirements for Oracle 9i & 10g. I know of 9i for Windows only at the moment, it requires around 10MB hard disk space & 256 RAM. So, similarly, i wanted to know for other platforms. I hope, my question is clear.
Please, help in solving the doubt.

i don't think that you should worry about minimum hardware specifications as now a days hardware is very cheap and also the minimum configuration new machines available in market are with p4, 256 mb ram, 80gb hdd, etc.
But still for knowledge minimum requirements information can be found in any oracle sw installation documentations.

Setup FORMS_PATH for Oracle Forms 10g in windows7

Please kindly advise the regedit path to set the FORMS_PATH variable at windows for Oracle Forms 10g?
Should it be HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > ORACLE?
If yes, is it the unique path? since I cannot create folder for 'ORACLE'.

If you installed the product following the instructions found in MOS Note 559067.1 the registry key will have already been created for you. It will be a sub to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Oracle\<???>
Find this in your system and look at the contents of each key below "Oracle". It should be obvious which one belongs to Forms as there will be numerous FORMS_xxxxx entries there.

In case you want to open a .cmdrw with its associated application you can use the following procedure:
webutil_host.NonBlocking( 'rundll32 url.dll,FileProtocolHandler ' || client_filename );This works for every file where a program has been associated to its file extension. (Adobe Reader for *.pdf, Microsoft Word for *.doc, Microsoft Excel for *.xls and so on)

The Tuxedo Mainframe Adapters are separably licensed products and not included in the Tuxedo kits. I'm not certain the mainframe adapters are yet available for 10gR3 (I'm checking on this), and for whatever reason the latest version I can find for download is the 9.1 version that can be downloaded from eDelivery.

Unzipping downloaded files from Oracle

Which program must be used to unzip the downloaded files from Oracle??
I've run the batch file which creates the zip files, but Winzip doesn't recognize them.

Just as a note, (I don't know if it will help you) After executing the batch file (especially for disks 1 & 2) it takes several minutes to complete the creation of the "single disk" zip file. And if you don't let it complete, winzip will not recognize it. The batch file will echo each steps completion, however the first echo takes a while to display, so it's easy to think that nothing is happening. I know I fell for it. So, try executing and then going for some coffee or something.
