Downloaded files? saved files?

on regular pc as well as my mac mini when i download or save files from the internet to my desktop it instantly appears after the download.
(Let say i right click a picture and select save to desktop it will be available for viewing at once when downloaded)
the problem on my macbook is it doesn't appear at once. It will appear should i open finder and click at desktop. Or if i make a log out and relog all the downloaded files appear..... anything wrong with my mac?

Usually a downloaded file location is controlled by your browser. You may want to check your browser settings to see where you are sending downloaded files. If you're using Safari, click Safari/Preferences and under the General Tab it says Save downloaded file to: and you should choose Desktop in the drop-down. A similar setup can be found in other browsers.
Could this be what you mean?

  • Download files not saved

    Download files not saved. Click on download and then click on "Save", next the download window opens, but it does not show the download file?
    I recently downloaded Nero 11 and then removed. I also deleted some software Babylon, Yonno (? some name) in control panel.
    Using ZoneAlarm 10.1.101 and Firefox 10.0.2 (removed and reinstalled).

    Hello Cor-el,
    I went to Tools>Options>Privacy and it is checked off as you indicated/noted...
    I will check out the URL downloads+windows later this week...
    ZoneAlarm will not work with the latest Firefox versions 14 (or earlier ones)... so reverted to an older version of Firefox and ZoneAlarm... and it works! Aside- it is ANNOYING to click on latest version upload for Firefox and then get a screen showing what software is not compatible with that version. So I needed to remove the latest Firefox version and ZoneAlarm.. and re-install both.
    No need to use Firefox 10.0.6 ESR because I am a small home user and not a big organization?
    Thanks for your help, I will have to make the time this coming week and look into this further.

  • I do not want to save every file I download. just want to open a file and move on. I do not see an option to just open or run the download without saving.

    Please give an option to just open and run a download without saving.
    I have a bunch of the things saved in the download folder that I have no clue what all of it is. Please I do not want to save everything I download, I would like to just open a file move on.
    Thank you.

    sorry but there is no option like this.
    but if you like you can delete them manually
    for these :
    1.open downloads from menu button on right or by simply pressing (Ctrl +J )
    2.Then select the downloaded file you want to delete by a single click on it.
    3. You will find a folder type icon on right side of that , in which you should click.
    4. Then it will open folder where the selected file saved.
    5. Then you can delete that file .
    OK done

  • How to download files or video from safari to be saved in an Apps?

    Hi, can I find out a way to download video opened in safari in iPad, but don't want to save it in iPad and use up the space. Is there any Apps that I can save those files downloaded? Thanks!

    You can't download files in Safari anyway, but even if you use another app to save the video, it will still take up space on your iPad.
    It's not possible to store something on your iPad without it taking up space.

  • Pacman files downloaded, and saved to. [Solved]

    I was wondering, I looked on Arch Wiki first, but didn't find what I needed, where does pacman download files that you later install, for example pacman -S kde  I know there must be a place where KDE files must be stored, unless pacman automatically cleans up unnecessary files after it installs the package, if not, where would I go to remove the left overs, now since KDE is installed, I feel I don't need the KDE installation files, since it's already installed.

    It won't destroy it.
    You may want to have a looks at some scripts that can help you with the cleaning https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=122656
    Heh, too late, just ran the pacman -Scc command, it cleared it, thanks for your help, .
    I would highly recommend NOT doing pacman -Scc. It wont hurt anything, but then it will remove ALL packages from /var/cache/pacman/pkg- if in the future you need to downgrade a package that introduces a bug, you will not be able to via pacman's cache. Now, there is the ARM and the Download script in the AUR that can assist you with downgrading, but these also rely on your network working and take time to grab each package.
    A better approach is to run pacman -Sc. This will clear all packages EXCEPT ones currently installed. So, if you use your system a while, seems to have no bugs, then you can run pacman -Sc to clear everything except the packages currently installed. Just a suggestion...

  • Download File from Directory

    Is there an easy way to have a stored procedure download a file from an oracle directory.
    I create a directory like so:
    create or replace directory MY_DIR as '/tmp'
    /I place a file in it: data.csv
    I have a button on a page with a link target of url and a url like: #OWNER#.download_csv('data.csv')
    I have tried to use the howto on uploading and downloading files as a guide. But I'm trying to avoid having to create a table to first upload my file into before downloading.
    Any ideas?

    Denes,
    Yes, I use java to scan the directories.
    Getting directory listings is pretty much the only thing I use java for.
    I modified a procedure I found on AskTom.
    1. I don't get the mime_type. Since it's for my own use, I assume that all the files I scan are 'audio/x-mp3'.
    But, having a table that maps file extensions to mime types wouldn't be hard to implement.
    Here's a list: http://www.w3schools.com/media/media_mimeref.asp
    2. I am only scanning local drives. (And I'm using 10.1.0.3)
    I imagine that some permissions would need to be set to access remote files.
    http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/java.102/b14187/chnine.htm#BABBIAGC
    Also, even if java can read the remote files, Oracle might not be able to read a BLOB from a remote file.
    Then you'd have to load your BLOB through java too.
    3. I am only saving the file name, but I do check the isDirectory attribute to recurse through sub folders.
    The java File object has access to all of the other file attributes too, like size and modification date, etc.
    Here is my java stored proc. It inserts the list of files it finds to a temp table.
    I have PL/SQL procedures that take the list of files and
    create Oracle directory objects and add entries to a table with a BFILE column.
    create or replace and compile java source named mp3list as
    import java.io.*;
    import java.sql.*;
        public class MP3List
        public static void clearList() throws SQLException
           #sql { DELETE FROM TEMP_LIST};
        public static void getTracks(String directory) throws SQLException
           File path = new File(directory);
           File[] FileList = path.listFiles();
           String TheFile;
           Timestamp ModiDate;
           for(int i = 0; i < FileList.length; i++)
               TheFile = FileList.getAbsolutePath();
    if (FileList[i].isFile() ) {
    #sql { INSERT INTO TEMP_LIST (FILENAME)
    VALUES (:TheFile ) };
    if (FileList[i].isDirectory() ) {
    getTracks(TheFile);
    public static void getAllTracks(String directory) throws SQLException
    clearList();
    getTracks(directory);
    This is the PL/SQL wrapper for it:
    procedure get_all_tracks( p_directory in varchar2 )
    as language java
    name 'MP3List.getAllTracks( java.lang.String )'; Doug

  • My C drive is 19.5 GB. xp sp3 took 5.05 GB.Firefox also installed here . There's no room for new downloaded files.So I changed the save to option in another drive. Still when downloading large files 'low disk space' message shown.

    suppose I want to download a 4 or 5 GB file,in C:/ there is usually 2 or 3 GB left.So I changed the directory of saved files to E:/.Still low space problem occurs and the newly downloaded file is not saved.A low disk space message is shown.Why is this showing?How to resolve this?

    in options under the "general" tab change the download folder,if that does not help change the option to "ask every time".I recommended to use DAP to download your files its great and accelerates your speed quite a lot.

  • Non US-ASCII characters in download file names

    I am trying to implement a simple file download in a JSP, and trying to get IE, Firefox and Opera to all display and handle non US-ASCII characters in the suggested download file name. Only concerned with Windows platform for now. Here's the code I am currently using:
    String agent = request.getHeader("USER-AGENT");
    if (null != agent && -1 != agent.indexOf("MSIE"))
    String codedfilename = URLEncoder.encode(cfrfilename, "UTF8");
    response.setContentType("application/x-download");
    response.setHeader("Content-Disposition","attachment;filename=" + codedfilename);
    else if (null != agent && -1 != agent.indexOf("Mozilla"))
    String codedfilename = MimeUtility.encodeText(cfrfilename, "UTF8", "B");
    response.setContentType("application/x-download");
    response.setHeader("Content-Disposition","attachment;filename=" + codedfilename);
    else
    response.setContentType("application/x-download");
    response.setHeader("Content-Disposition","attachment;filename=" + cfrfilename);
    }This URL encodes the file name if the browser is IE, MIME encodes it if the browser is Mozilla, and sends plain UTF-8 (the encoding of the JSP) for all other browsers. I get "cfrfilename" from translated properties files, and the string can contain characters from any character set - Chinese, Thai, Korean, etc.
    This code works correctly for IE - the file name is displayed correctly in the file Save as dialog, and it is saved correctly on disk, no matter which character set is used.
    For Firefox, the file name is displayed correctly in the file Save as dialog, but it is only saved correctly to disk if the file name is in a character set supported by the system locale. This seems to be a known Firefox bug (not fully using the Windows Unicode APIs), so nothing I can do about that.
    Nothing seems to work for Opera, however - I cannot get the file name to display correctly in the file Save as dialog, no matter which method I use (I have tried URL encoding and MIME encoding in addition to the plain UTF-8).
    Has anybody implemented something similar that works for at least these 3 browsers?

    I tested your code today,
                         dialog           save           open
    Firefox 1.5          OK                 OK               OK
    IE 6.0                OK                 OK                NGdailog: filename show in download popup dialog
    save: save to disk from dialog
    open: open directly from dailog

  • Downloading file from a database..

    Iam writing an application which downloads a file from the database.The file lists will be displayed for the user. When he clicks a particular file, he gets a window with open, save cancel options
    (i am using response.setHeader("Content-disposition","attachment; filename="+selectedfile);
         response.setContentType("application/octet-stream");)
    I am reading the file from the database and storing it in the client system and then reading it from the saved location to view the downloaded file. But when it is viewed, the file is being copied to the temporary internet files folder and from there it is shown. So the file is in the two locations at the client side...
    When user downloads it i am storing it in "c:/downloade/" directory and again reading from the c:/downloaded/" to display the file. But when I see the path of the file opened through its properties its showing the temporary internet file folder location..
    "C:\Documents and Settings\.....\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\2RED0V4P\v[1].jpg".
    Please tell me is my procedure is correct, can we view it without downloading it to the client system. I am giving the code in my program..

  • Can't download file to \\tsclient\D

    I use terminal service to browse using Firefox. When download files directly to \\tsclient\D, error "...could not be saved, because an unknown error occurred. - Try saving to a different location." WHY?

    Set up your email account in the mail app first. Then you will need an app that supports the "open in" command, and reads the file type that you want to open...

  • Downloaded files are not shown in the folder indicated in Options

    "Options" shows that downloaded files should be in a a particular folder. I go to that folder via Windows Explorer and they're not there...other files are, however. So -- how can I access the downloaded files via Windows Explorer if they're not being saved as indicated. Where else could Firefox be putting them? (for testing I checked the "downloads" window list on firefox and compare to the files in the same folder on Windows...two completely different lists).

    When you are in the Firefox Downloads window, right-click a file and select '''Open Containing Folder'''. That will open the folder that downloaded file was saved to.
