Downloaded font in Illustrator

Hello,
I recently got a new computer and transferred the programs and license to the new computer. I installed some new fonts from a free online source for personal use. Illustrator recognizes that they are installed when I search in the character box, but does not change to that font when selected. It also does not show up in the drop down font tab. Any ideas on how to fix this and get my downloaded fonts working again?

You have not provided any system info and otehr details, so we can't know. And chances are that one of your free fonts is simply busted and messes up the font system as a whole e.g. by using the same internal font name as another font or being designed poorly and not rendering correctly. Same old, same old, really...

  • Cannot find downloaded fonts in Illustrator 9

I purchased new fonts and downloaded them. I can see them in every application except Adobe Illustrator. I'm fairly new to Illustrator, so this could be something simple - but, not for me!  Any suggestions?

There are several font folders and the one you might try is ~/library/fonts
    As opposed to the  User/Username/Library/Fonts
but take my advice and get a font manager like Font Agent Pro.
You simply drag it into the UI activate the fonts and launch your application and you can manage your system fonts as well.
You can create sets of fonts for specific purposes and cients.

  • HI,  I downloaded and used illustrator last night, but today it crashes on opening? can any one help?

I downloaded and used illustrator last night, but today it crashes on opening? can any one help?
The only reason I download from Creative Cloudd is because my previous software copy is no longer supported,  feeling very frustrated!

    Tabitha,
Many still use unsupported ealier versions, and there is no real need to upgrade unless there is a real need.
Unless you have done something like installing new fonts or made other changes, it may be releavnt to look at the following list.
Or you can try this specialized forum (where you may be able find the answer from previous threads),
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/download_install_setup
or Customer Care (tick I Still Need Help and hope for an agent available for a chat),
    http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?product=illustrator&topic=downloading-installing-and-s etting-up
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Fonts and illustrator

I'm having a horrible time trying to get my fonts into illustrator, I downloaded about 200 fonts from the internet, and can't get them into illustator. I used to use and still do use corel 10. Needless to say the instant i put my disc of fonts in my harddrive they were automatically downloaded to corel 10, i didn't have to do anything, the same can't be said for illustrator.

Assuming you're on Windows, install the fonts with the Windows Fonts Control Panel. Then they will be available to all applications, including Illustrator.

  • How to Use a Downloaded Font

How do I use a downloaded font with Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2007?  The font is in a zip file.  What I found on Google gave directions for Windows XP and I was able to find the font dialog box through the control panel, but there was no drop down file option (where I was supposed to be able to simply add the font), which is what all the sources told me to look for in Windows XP ... which doesn't really help for Windows 7.  Please help!
Nothing I post is an official statment of Best Buy or Geek Squad, it is only a helpful opinion!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I can help you out with this! Windows 7 has made it easy for us to do this!
    1. Right click on Zipped file that you have.
    2. Click extract here.
    3. You should see another folder appear that is unzipped.
    4. Open that folder and find the font file. (There are a few different types)
    5. Right click the font file and choose the option "Install"
That should do it! ( You can also delete the 2 folders you are left with once it is installed)
    Hope this helps!

  • HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401a Laser Printer Not Saving Downloaded Fonts

    Hi,
we have recently purchased an HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401a Laser Printer which needs to be used with a system that downloads fonts for correct style printouts. The problem I am having is the fonts download initially which is great, but they are not saved by the printer after 1 printout so the user is having to download the fonts everytime she wants to print something.
All other printers in the office are HP2055 and work as expected saving the fonts after the initial download. I have asked the support team of the application to have a look at the situation and they say everything is setup correctly so it may be an issue with the printer. Printer is installed on a Windows XP SP3 PC.
    Firware version: 20121205 (15 Dec 2012)
    Driver Version: 61.140.04.14138 (1 Jan 2013)
Any help would be appeciated, thanks.
    Robert

If the downloaded soft fonts are definitely not being saved (despite the download presumably terminating with a 'make soft font permanent' escape sequence), then the problem must lie in the firmware - and the only resolution is if HP releases  a new version with a fix.
To be certain about which PCL5 fonts are resident in the printer, you have presumably printed off a  'PCL5 Typeface List' via the relevant front panel menu (assuming this printer has one).
Or you could send the following direct to the printer to invoke that report:
<Esc>%-12345X@PJL COMMENT Print PCL Font List
    @PJL DMINFO ASCIIHEX = "040004010105020402015E"
    <Esc>%-12345X
where <Esc> represents the non-graphic) Escape control-code character (the character with decimal code 27, or hexadecimal 1B), and each PJL statement is terminated with a LineFeed control-code (decimal 10, hexadecimal 0A).
Assuming that the printer is USB-connected, you could send the contents of the file (name, say, testfile.prn) holding the above to the printer using the copy command in a command-prompt session:
    copy /b testfile.prn \\computer-name\share-name
     where:
computer-name is the name of the host workstation
share-name is a share name of the installed Windows printer instance.
I don't have access to your model of printer, but I do use a LaserJet Pro 400 Colour MFP 475dn (MFP equivalent of M451 printer), and this does appear to retain downloaded 'permanent' soft fonts - but only until the device goes into 'sleep' mode!
So it is probably a common 'fault' (or 'design decision'?) across this family (LJ Pro 400) of printers.

  • Why do downloaded fonts not work in photoshop elements 10 but work fine in other applications?

Having trouble with downloaded fonts in adobe photoshop elements 10.  Can anyone suggest how to fix this problem?  The font does not show detail (all filled in black) in elements but is perfectly fine in other applications on my mac.

PSE simply uses the system fonts. Have you installed the font in the default location?
Are you using a small font size on a large resolution image?

  • Problem with embedding fonts in Illustrator CS5

I have just installed Illustrator CS5, and have tested creating a PDF document based on one of my existing files, as well as a new file.
When I open these PDF documents in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9, I am told that Acrobat cannot access one of the embedded fonts (Korinna BT).
I have had no issues with embedding this font in Illustrator CS4, and (strangely), when I open these files in other PDF viewers (Preview and PDFPenPro), they report no issues.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
I have removed and reinstalled the font in question, and tested/verified that the font is OK - but still not joy.
    Regards
    Jeremy

The error message I get is:
"Cannot extract the embedded font 'MVZTIW+KorinnaITCbyBT-Regular'. Some characters may not display or print correctly."
When I check the fonts in the PDF in "Document Properties" in Adobe Acrobat the following is shown:
    "KorinnaITCbyBT-Regular
         Type: TrueType
         Encoding: Ansi
         Actual Font: Adobe Serif MM
         Actual Font Type: Type 1"
It seems that Illustrator is adding some strange "code" ('MVZTIW') to the beginning of the font, which means the actual font can't be found and extracted.

  • How to monospace fonts in Illustrator?

I can't seem to find this feature - is it possible to do this in Illustrator?
    Thanks in advance!

Good responses here, but I just wanted to add in one other solution. This is painstaking but I'm having to do it for a project. I literally need a grid of text. I'd much rather just have a monospace font. Illustrator, if you're listening, a "Force Monospace" option would be excellent for UI designers, puzzle designers, and a lot of other people. People go to illustrator to do the odd jobs that other programs can't do. This feature would be at home here.
The basic idea is to use linked text boxes and flowing text. This will be much easier to do in InDesign, since that program was born to flow text. I find it hard to click the flow button in CS5 and you can't hold option to continue the linkage process like you can in InDesign.
Anyways, details on how to do this below. If you absolutely need a monospace layout of text glyphs, and don't have a monospace font to work with, and need to work in illustrator, this should work. I'm not saying that it will look good or be legible, and I guarantee you'll curse Illustrator because this would be very easy for them to add in as a feature.
    1) Click and drag out a rectangular text box. Don't just click and start typing, you need an actual type box.
    2) Enter your text and style your text how you want it.  Use the increased tracking method, posted above, if you want to see  roughly what it will look like.
    3) Decrease the tracking so it's 0 after you have everything styled.
    4) Add an uppercase M to the beginning of your text. That's typically (no pun intended) the widest character in most fonts.
    5) Resize the text box width so all you can see is that first M. You can make it a little wider just to be safe.
    6) Drag out a copy of that text box, and delete the text from the new one.
    7) Drag out copies of this empty text box. They should "flow" from left to right for English or other left-to-right languages. You should have as many boxes as you have letter in your final text.
    8) Link the text boxes: first click on your text box that has your placeholder text. You should see a red overflow [+] sign on the right side of the box. Click that.
    9) Click the edges of the next text box and you should see text flow from one box to the next.
    10) Rinse and repeat until all your boxes are filled. As you're doing this, you'll have multiple smaller letters filling up smaller boxes. There are two way to solve this:
11A) Hit enter after each character to force the text to the next text box. This is cumbersome.
11B) Increase tracking to a very high number or something that will prohibit two characters from occupying the same box. This is good if you are going to want to edit the type after the fact.
    12) Horizontally align your boxes, center your text, and you're done.

  • How can I use my fonts in Illustrator (CS4) without Suitcase?

How can I use my fonts in Illustrator (CS4) without Suitcase? InDesign has a fonts folder, but not Illustrator.

i found this info from this link: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3466307.  The user who asked this question stats this solution worked for them.
First in Language and text preferences in the system preferences select Hebrew as the input method.
The in Illustrator click the text tool in your document or drag to create a text frame.
While the cursor is active select a hebrew font
then go to the menu bar for the finder and where there is the American Flag pull it down and select hebrew
now go back to the document and start typing.
Remember if you do not have the ME version you have to have it flush right and type backwards.

Just double click the fonts in Finder and they will open in Font Book and be available on your Mac.
You may have to restart Pages. The other possibility is they are there but in a different order. Some fonts cluster down the list.

  • Firefox refuses to show downloaded font on initial page

The first of the following web sites is a hand written web site and the next is a WordPress blog:
    http://www.lovatasinhala.com
    http://www.ahangama.com
They both use a downloaded Open Type font. It is a Singhala smartfont. (The first and only smartfont for any written language).
Firefox 3.0 is the first browser that displayed the ligatures in the font according to Open Type. Since of late, when you use Firefox to go to these sites, the pages are shown in the default font (Arial). The author specified font is not shown even after the page is refreshed. However, if you click another menu (or a blog page), the font shows.
I tested these pages in Safari, Chrome/Chromium, Arora, Opera and IE. All of them display the font as soon as you call up the web site except, of course, IE that does not understand Open Type.
In 2006, there was a unfounded fear that rendering thousands of ligatures would grind the computer to a halt. It was due to a misunderstanding of how an Open Type font is processed. Later, the Bugzilla engineers of Mozilla tested this issue and found that the difference between rendering a non-ligatured font and my font is 2%, which I think is within the margin of error.
I think the old legend has entered the minds of the Mozilla engineers.
Please fix this problem as Firefox is by far the most popular browser in South Asia among users of Windows XP and Linux, and this solution for complex scripts is the only way Indic languages could be elevated to same level as European languages that use the Latin script.
    Thanks.

    cor-el,
Thank you for trying to help.
I do not understand what you expect me to see after doing Ctrl+Shift+K. What I get is a blank area and a prompt to type something just below it
I tested V9 in my Puppy Linux machine and it showed the page as expected using the smartfont. The problem is in Windows XP and 7. In both of those, the page is shown as Romanized Singhala. If you try to refresh the page, it does not switch to the font that is already downloaded in the background. Only way to trigger it to show the Singhala font is to click on another menu and come back.
Please see the two screenshots sent. They are of the identical page, but in two different fonts. One is in Romanized Singhala because it is displayed in the default Latin font. The other one is in the downloaded Singhala script.
All other browsers (not IE) wait for the font to finish downloading to display the page in that font. This is the behavior of V3.6. Now it shows the default font forgetting the downloaded font. This may be due to a misconception regarding display delay.
